"A local goat's cheese," Edunel replies. "From a farmer we buy regularly from. It's good cheese, but inexpensive as well."

Edunel nods at Tippi's and Jacinth's words, and then speaks up herself. "The cost of divinations could skyrocket fairly quickly. Anything less than a scrying spell doesn't have the range and would require you to wander around the city anyway and pay your caster to repeatedly cast the spell at each new location. Even scrying can be resisted and that's a spell that will cost close to four hundred gold per casting. Plus, as Xanthippe says, we would probably have to go to Asmodeans to find someone capable of casting the spell."

"I must admit, I'm not familiar with Gybrael," Edunel says. "However, I was using second chance to mean being truly repentant, so I think we're basically saying the same thing."

"Clearly, you can only judge based on your own knowledge," Edunel, who has been completely silent until now, says. "If you don't know whether they've had a second chance, you must give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they haven't. If they have squandered previous chances, they will likely squander the latest one you give them, so you will know the truth soon enough."

"I have some wizardly skill," Edunel replies, "but not nearly enough to be an effective teacher in that regard. Lavinia's parents intended to send her to the academy in Egorian once she turned sixteen."

"The Vanderborens hired me to work with Lavinia when she was eight, a little over six years ago," Edunel replies. "They wanted her to have a strong education in sciences and the natural world. I have not worked with any other family members."

Edunel shakes her head. "I wish I could take credit for it. While a couple volumes were added at my suggestion, it was mostly the Vanderborens who put it together."

"Edunel, I presume?" Tippi greets the elf with a respectful bow of her head.

The elf nods her head in response. "I am Lavinia's private tutor," she says in a quiet voice.
