If Edgar's willing I'll hold off. If not I have a few ideas as I said on how to get new characters in.

Part of the issue is that you'll be well into level 2 by the time you leave the sewers.

If thats the case I think I will leave now then, as long as you have a way to get people in man.

Unfortunately I am going to have to drop too, but I can at least stick around till the party gets somewhere safe.

I have been convinced to run an AP (possibly 2) for some people here because their DM jumped ship, and originally they were gonna have me as a DM anyway. This is going to eat up my time, so I am going to have to bow out myself.

I am deeply sorry but I really can't stretch myself super thin either :(

It has nothing to do with the party either so don't feel that way. Like I said though I can at least stick with you all till you are out of the sewer as it were.

Edgar quickly tells everyone what the "hellknights" really were.

Know Local - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10, Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Dusting off his hammer, Edgar glowers. "Annoyances. Lets keep moving!" Edgar walks over to Jenavia, and keeps watch waiting for her to lead on.

As he raises his hammer yet again, Edgar mutters to himself. "Stupid undead getting in my way, stupid hellknights...grahhh" He brings his hammer down as hard as he can on the last skeleton.

Attack Roll vs Skellie (with Inspiring Command/Bless) - Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17, Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

The instant he has an opening Edgar will push up to the next skeleton and try to smash it as well. Once Rokan backs up

Attack Roll vs Skeleton (bless) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Damage Roll 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Edger glowers and tries again to take down the skeleton.

Attack Roll vs Skeleton (with bless and flank) - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20. Damage Roll 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

After dodging the blow of the skeleton, Edgar quickly swings his hammer in an angry arc directly at the one in front of him.

Attack with Warhammer - Attack Roll 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Edgar hefts his warhammer meaningfully. "Lets go deal with the undead for now. As much as I like the idea of them killing hellknights I dont like the idea of leaving them behind us."

Edgar stares at Rhys, his face dead serious. "We used to agree on alot, but that is neither here nor there. We need to get safe before we deal with our...issues."

"We need to get moving. If we go down and have to deal with the undead then fine. My hammer can take care of em." Edgar looks behind them, making sure that he hears nothing and sees nothing.

Tapping his foot impatiently, Edgar muttesr "Come on Rhys come on...your ass better get back here safe or I swear to the gods I will beat the stupid out of you." Edgar keeps watch as best he can, constantly scanning the area, warhammer and shield at the ready.

Perception Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Edgar waits calmy, keeping an eye and ear out for any sounds out of the ordinary. That is of course not ordinary for a rotting sewer. Perception Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13. When the box is finally dredged up, Edgar smiles. "Maybe the gods are smiling on us. We need to keep moving."

Edgar tries his best to keep track of all the twists and turns but eventually just gives up and keeps to the front of the group, shield and hammer at the ready.

Perception Check - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

When Edgar leaves the tunnel he quickly draws his shield and warhammer. "Come on folks, lets form up. Safety in numbers and all that nonsense. This is not going to be a cakewalk." He quickly stows the 3 potions into a belt pouch, and then draws his Everburning Torch and hands it to whomever looks like they could hold it. "Here, this torch is one of those magical ones. Someone want to hold it for us?"

He then quickly scans the area. Perception Check - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Know Local Check then for Tactics - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Edgar wastes no time and runs after Rhys and Janiven!

What kind of check would I need to make to remember/figure out the tactics the Hellknights are most likely to employ? Know Local?

"We need to move, NOW! There are 6 Hellknights minimum out there plus trainees! Whats the quickest way out?!"

Edgar rushes to the window to quickly determine how far away the group of Hellknights are.

Perception Check - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Edgar leans back slightly. "I am still not sure exactly what we are to do. 'Take back the Night' sounds fine and dandy but what would be our first goal? Establish a safe base of operations? Scout patrols? Rescue people?" Edgar pauses and looks at each person sternly.

"I personally think our best course of action would be two things. Secure a safe base where we can all stay, preferrably hidden from the hellknights and secondly secure some supplies for us. Once we have that we can proceed."

"The law is supposed to protect the people, but more often then not it currently allows for atrocities to be commited." Edgar looks meaningfully at Rhys before continuing. "I believe that the system can work, and has worked, but in its current form it cannot sustain itself. It needs to be changed, and unfortunately going through the system was not working. So, it seems to me that we need to take steps."

Edgar takes another sip of his water, and then sighs. "Looks like in order to fix the system I am gonna have to break it first." Edgar grins humorlessly, and pats his warhammer.

Edgar glances over at the rest of the group. "I know quite a few guards who are alot like me, only less likely to actually do what I have done. I can convince them to turn a blind eye to most activities we may be doing. Also, the commander of the guard herself, Durotas Saria Roccin, hates the hellknights with a passion but by the same token she is smart enough not to piss them off." Edgar sits back and sits a bit of water and waits to see if anyone has any comments.

Well then here we go: Know Local Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

"Good question, let me think for a second." Edgar thinks for a second, waiting to see if any names spring to mind.

What would I need to roll TarkXT to know if any of my fellow guards were sympathetic to the cause as it where?

Looking Rhys straight in the eye, Edgar frowns and then smirks himself. "Well I am not a 'puppet' anymore. So lets just eat and 'rekindle' our friendship shall we?" He starts to eat then, glancing around the table at everyone else and seeing if he can figure anything out about them.

Perception Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 to see if he can notice anything specific about his new...coworkers

Edgar barks a short laugh. "The only reason the emblem is still on my armor is I don't feel like buying a new set as this one is quite servicable. And yes Rhys, you went a little crazy, running off with rebels and doing who knows what." Edgar glares for a moment at Rhys before going back to his water.

"Ex guardsman. I got fired a few days ago, which is fine. I still think the system can work though...once a few issues have been dealt with." Edgar simply stares at the table, lost in thought.

Edgar stares down at Rhys. "We were friends, then you went all crazy on me. Regardless, I have been keeping your ass out of the fire for the last several months, might as well do it in person now." Edgar pulls up a chair, and orders a glass of water. He is dressed in an armored coat that has the symbol of the guard on it, and carries a large warhammer and shield. He also has a longbow, and a pack of arrows.

The door of the tavern slams open, and a gruff voice is heard muttering. The door is slammed shut almost as if in anger. A man, black hair cut short, is standing in the doorway with a scowl on his face He quickly looks around the bar until he sees Janiven. Walking over to the table he quickly notes the others sitting at it, and then his eyes settle on Rhys, and his expression goes from anger to confusion.

"Rhys?! What on earth are YOU doing here?!"

My stats are underspent? You sure?

You said 20 points right?

STR 12 2 points (this becomes 14 with the human bonus)
DEX 16 10 points
CON 12 2 points
INT 13 3 points
WIS 14 5 points
CHA 8 -2 points

20 points total

Unless I am missing something.

I was assuming:

14 5
14 5 +2 Racial Bonus.
12 2
13 3
14 5
8 -2

But then I always assume max efficiency. It's my inner optimizer at work. :P

Honestly when I was building him I totally forgot that I HAD the +2 bonus for being human. My brain was stuck in 3.5 dnd mode

So I kinda tacked on the +2 after the fact.

D'you mind if I work Calla up as a sorceress? Looking at the group, it seems like we could use some arcane ability, and we've got a ranger to be a front-line fighter.

Thanks for picking her.

It's an idea but it seems the ranger's going for a ranged focus with the inquisitor. 7 CON makes a good front line fighter not.

Pff I aint going ranged :P

And no, I built Edgar to be more of the front line / tracker sort of guy. Just wait till I take Favored Community Westcrown ;)

Not just any Ranger, but a sword and SHIELD ranger :D I can be sneaky if need be but hell, I will just beat people with a warhammer.

What, it works!

Quick Warning: My first post will be on the 15th. I am going to be out of town with minimal access to the net from the 13th to the 15th, back in town the evening of the 15th. Didn't think we would be starting so fast :)

But I WILL be posting on the 15th (Sunday) :)

Lets get to work baby!

Time to get my tracking shoes on...

YEAAAHHHHHH

Wow Tark, running 2 groups?

Ballsy man :) I like it.

*crosses fingers* Here is hoping I wake up to good news! If the choices are made between now and when I wake up that is :P

Curious as to whether or not the pair of Rhys and Edgar get in :)

I will be lurking though for sure :D

I have no idea what just happened... *eyes the hellknights*

This is a paired character that goes with Patchers character Rhys. We decided to make a duo of people who know each other for fun.

Background of Edgar:

Growing up in Westcrown, Edgar always understood the way of the world. Or at least, as a child, he thought he did. His parents ran a small but fairly well known theatre they called "The Golden Chalice", which Edgar thought was absolutely silly. He grew up treated well, his parents providing him a solid education in acting, but he was never one for the stage, always dour, always serious, and never comfertable around large groups of people.

In fact, his favorite activity was seeing how far he could get and how long he could avoid his parents. One day, when he disappeared from his bedroom and snuck out into the streets, the young human ran into a Half Orc, literally. He slammed right into him while running, and the two were knocked down. Edgar helped the other youth up, apologizing profusely and constantly glancing over his shoulder. He introduced himself, and offered to buy the half orc a pastry if he kept quiet about seeing him. The other youth agreed.

That was the beginning of the friendship between Edgar and Rhys.

The two young men were as thick as thieves for several years, sharing in all sorts of mayhem, as youths are likely to do. However, during Edgar's 16th year of life, things changed. His parents were killed by a local crime boss, who was angry that Edgars parents were not paying protection money. Almost at the same time, Rhys was dragged off by a press gang, and sold into slavery. The two seperated, and Edgar decided that he would have to hunt down those who took his family from him. From that day forward Edgar joined the guard, devouted himself to the skills needed to track those who would break the law.

Several years passed, and one day Edgar got wind that the man who had bought his friend had died. He quickly began the paperwork to get his friend freed, having worked in the system for the last several years, and moving up in rank to become a tracker in the guard. He was successful in freeing his friend, and was happy to be reunited.

However, Rhys seemed less then pleased by the outcome, and the two began to have a rivalry. Edgar could not understand why his friend was upset when the system had in fact worked, as he saw it. When Rhys disappeared yet again, Edgar was put on task to track him, to find him and bring him back in under suspicious of sedition and treason against the rulers.

Since then Edgar has done his best to hide any evidence of his friend, while at the same time trying to get in contact with him and help him understand that the system can in fact change from within, and that trying to start a revolution is the worst thing possible.

Unfortunatly for Edgar, the guard caught wind of him trying to hide evidence and has expelled him. Since that time, Edgar has continued to try to change things by following the law, but his power is now limited.

Answers to your Questions:

1. Why are you in Westcrown?
- Edgar is in Westcrown trying to improve things by fixing the system from within the system.

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?
- Create a new form of government that benefits all.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?
- Tracking, breaking and entering, and a variety of other skills suited to an urban enviroment. Also (hopefully) contacts from within the guard. Also decent combat skills

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?
- Mechanically he is going to be a defensive urban ranger, focusing on Sword and Shield style (its from the APG). RP Wise, he hopes to mend his friendship with Rhys, and to fix the system so that people can rely on a fair government again.

5. I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?
- I would explain that I am a former member of the guard, and that I am currently trying to track dangerous rebels and bring them to justice, and then I would offer my services for a fair price. Gotta pay the bills!
