The spell description for Analyze Dweomer says in the case of a magic item, you learn it's functions (including any curse effects), how to activate its functions (if appropriate), and how many charges are left (if it uses charges).

Would this spell inform the caster of the exact numerical bonuses a magic item has? For example, the enhancement bonus (+1, +2, etc) a weapon, shield or suit of armour possesses? Would one know a Belt of Giant Strength is +2, +4, or +6?

The spell description for Stone Shape says ‘fine detail’ is not possible. Is shaping a wall with arrow slits within the bounds of the spell?

Any opinions?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

The Travel Domain’s granted power Agile Feet states that when activated, for 1 round “you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it”.

Does this mean that if you were underwater you would not take any penalties and could move at your normal speed (as if under a Freedom of Movement effect)?

The description of Mind Blank says "The subject is protected from all devices and spells that gather information about the target through divination magic (such as detect evil, locate creature, scry, and see invisible)."

Therefore, if invisible and under the effect of Mind Blank, a See Invisible (divination) spell would not detect the subject. Would someone using a True Seeing (divination) spell be able to 'see' the invisible, Mind Blanked subject?

Opinions?

Hello, just a few questions regarding the Rod of Absorption. In the item description it states that the magic absorbed must be a single-target spell or a ray directed at either the character holding the rod or her gear.

Would a 'creature touched' spell, like vampiric touch, be considered a single-target spell or would spells more like charm person or finger of death apply where the description of the target states 'one creature'?

Would the rod be able to absorb, say, the death effect from being struck by the Wand of Orcus? Just fyi, we're at the bottom of Rappan Athuk facing the avatar or Orcus plus his undead hordes so i just had to ask.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a question regarding the Hand of Glory item which allows you to wear ONE additional magic ring which doesn’t count against the 2 ring limit.

On p.553 of the pathfinder book it explains that adding abilities to pre-existing items tends to cost 1.5x the value of the item being added. So, for example, having a ring of protection +2 with the added powers of a ring of invisibility, it would be the ring of invisibility cost x 1.5.

Now, regarding the Hand of Glory: can you add the powers of a Hand of Glory (at a cost of 1.5x) onto an already existing Hand of Glory, effectively allowing a character to wear TWO additional magic rings? Or is this a form of stacking and it would not work?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I was hoping someone could clear something up. On pg. 549 of the Pathfinder rpg book, there is a section on reducing the cost of magic items by placing restrictions upon them. These limits being such things as only certain classes, alignments, etc can use the item.

Now, this seems like a loophole that players can use to make/purchase items at MUCH lower rates by having the item function with, say, only chaotic good fighters (for a chaotic good fighter in the campaign). If this were the case, wouldn’t entire organisations (eg. church cults) make all their magic items and equipment function for followers of said deity (ie. alignment-specific)? Why waste resources if it’s cheaper to make/purchase magic items this way? Thus, the likelihood of finding a magic item that matches up to the PC is remote to say the least.

I’m not sure who it was (perhaps Monte Cook), but long ago a game designer suggested to eliminate this cost reduction because it’s really not a limitation as it works for the PC and others can’t use the item against you. I just want people’s opinions on how this particular section was MEANT to be used – as flavour (eg. holy avenger, dwarven thrower) or a loophole for PCs to purchase items with restrictions for everyone else but themselves thus reducing the price significantly but getting full use out of the item.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, first time post (short time lurker). My gaming group uses the spell point system in Unearthed Arcana. I plan on playing a Diviner Specialist. How would one convert the prohibited spells? In Pathfinder, it takes two slots to memorize one prohibited school spell. For the spell point system, would a prohibited school spell take up two slots but spell point cost stays the same? No change in slots (ie. stays at one) but double the spell point cost? Or both (two spell slots AND double the spell points)?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
