"Captain Vonda did say to visit medical bay first," Dosheen-45 reminds him. He turns his head slightly after looking into the skittermander's eyes for a few seconds. "Was it an implied order though? It wasn't a direct command...was it? There are nuances to language..." he pauses looking at the ship's map on the comm. "If we see the doctor first, you'd probably have more time to spend with your friend without any other tasks hanging over your head."
"You're the brains of this crew, Dosh. Got any recommendations on learning apps on the infosphere I can use for the trip out to the Vast?" "I will find a suitable learning app for you Captain," Dosheen-45 says. During the orientation, Dosheen-45 studies the map with the hand-drawn paths and where the miniature Galaxsea Hopper is placed. "Doctor Chesvyn wanted to see you before then. He’s in the medical bay. Bonotrope also has supplies ready for your trip, so you should swing by the galley before you pack up your gear". "Thank you Captain Vonda." The android walks with Makaleku down the corridor, but when Makaleku turns in a direction not leading to the doctor, Dosheen-45 stops and consults the ship's map on his comm. "Maka, I believe the doctor is this way," he points towards the medical bay.
"My name is Dosheen-45. Many call me Dosh as an abbreviation," the android says. "I am a decent pilot of starships. I also navigate the infosphere fairly well. I've been trained in security basics such as disabling locks and hacking, not for illegal purposes. I would attempt to infiltrate systems to determine where security flaws existed. This was years ago, when I helped build starships."
Dosheen-45 orders an electrolytic drink. "I too am interested in this potential profit," the android tells Tarika. "Do you have any specific items you enjoy baking?" he asks Makaleku.
If we're going to continue from here (with the previous events occurring), I'll just keep the same background.
"Breakfast," Dosheen-45 says. "I will see you there Tarika." He maps the route from the ship to the coffee shop "Drips and Droughts".
GM Supreme Being: If it helps reduce your preparation time, I'm all for switching to Tales from the Vast. Probably the major change Dosheen-45 needs is a different background. Something not tied to Fly Free or Die.
"Badass?" Dosheen-45 laughs. "No, I thought I would be more effective with a laser pistol. Your offer is very kind, but I will pass for now. I will wait for a weapon. I may find a new weapon on Apostae. They are manufactured there after all. Perhaps there is a broken one for a reduced price. I may be able to repair it." The android checks his comm. "I do like the idea of lunch. Is anyone else interested?"
"After searching the Absalom weapon vendors, it turns out I can't afford a new weapon. I'm actually rather impoverished," Dosheen-45 says with a resigned tone of voice. He pats the arc pistol in its holster. "I wanted another firearm the next time we encounter trouble. I will stay satisfied with this and my crossbolter."

I concur Captain, Dosheen-45 thinks in response to her telepathic message. "Captain, will we be stopping at Absalom Station for resupplying our food? If we have time, I'd like to get a new weapon." Dosheen-45 adds, "Along the way to Apostae, I'd like to do more maintenance on the ship after our encounter with the Drift leaches. Check systems and subsystems."
"We need a toolkit," Dosheen-45 says. He scans the surface of their vessel. "I can do an initial survey while you get the toolkit Maka. We can do external repairs. Nate can you run diagnostics with the computer? If you don't mind me making subcommands, Captain..." he glances at Vegoia.
"Does anyone know if these leaches lay eggs? We should use the computer to learn more about these creatures. I wonder if Absalom Station has quarantine procedures for ships infested with Drift leaches."
"Be careful Marcellus, hypothermia is dangerous," Dosheen-45 says while maneuvering across the hull for a more advantageous attack. He tracks the drift leach for two seconds then shoots his blaster.
Dosheen-45 hurries towards where Maka is, not wanting him to face two drift leaches by himself. Oh I forgot my baton in the rush to exit the airlock, he thinks, getting closer to the skittermander. Better stop here and shoot.
"Understood, Marcellus," Dosheen-45 says. The more immediate threat is this one next to me, he thinks. He steps away from the creature , aims, and shoots his blaster.
Thank you for clarifying your reasoning, Supreme Being. Marcellus I didn't know about Point Out. Also a PC with the blinded condition couldn't Point Out even if they had a different precise sense to compensate, right?
Dosheen-45 appreciates the magnetic ability of his boots to make walking across the hull so easy. The sensors in the boots adjust the magnetic force to mimic a natural walking stride. He raises his pistol and takes a moment to aim at the drift leach Makaleku and Vegoia are fighting. ◆ Stride
"They are in such a hurry," Dosheen-45 says while coming back from his locker with his weapon. He waits for the Starboard airlock to go through its cycle before he enters it to exit the ship.
While N'than was off-shift, Dosheen-45 decides to use his problem-solving skills at the Science officers' station.
"Not to alarm anyone, but there are about half a dozen small creatures attached to the hull. Does anyone recognize them?" He displays the images to the rest of the crew.
"I'll take your word on it Captain," Dosheen-45 says. "A very efficient route Maka," he adds while calculating probable delta-v requirements from their orbital exit angle.

"On the way to the ship, I can post on the local infosphere, about wanting to sell one crate," Dosheen-45 adds as an afterthought. "What do you think a reasonable price or trade would be? If only we knew of a species that liked spoiled yaro berries."
"I think we should depart Akiton as soon as possible," Dosheen-45. "This planet is even worse than the general consensus. That's my opinion at least. If you don't mind Maka, let me assist you in plotting a course away from here."
Dosheen-45 closes his mouth before he says something that will worsen the situation. He takes a breath and keeps his eyes on the enforcers.
Thank you N'than and Supreme Being! I'm back and should be posting with my normal frequency. My dad is stable for now. His health has degraded significantly in the past five months. In short, a urinary tract infection is surprisingly scary in elderly people, especially if dementia from Parkinson's disease has developed. Also, last month, the malignant neoplasm in his right lung x-ray was confirmed to be cancer. It's hard to understand how an non-smoker gets lung cancer. Can second-hand smoke from the 1950s really be the cause? Monday we have a meeting with the oncologist and should learn about treatment options (immunotherapy?) or the possibility that treatment isn't a good decision given his other health concerns.
"My opinion is that if we don't pay Runo Prat, we leave ourselves liable to a lawsuit on Castrovel; meaning lost time and opportunity during the trial which I think we have a high chance of losing, incurring even more penalties." The android raps a hand against the wall of the rig's cab. "The company will squeeze us like it does as we work off the debt to them. This whole situation makes me want to avoid Akiton, or at least the people who don't honor contracts. Does the Sczarni family rule part of Akiton?"
Please roleplay Dosheen-45 for the next few days. My dad's health took a sharp decline yesterday.
Supreme Being, thank you for telling us your growing frustrations. Open communication is important even in gaming activities. The play-by-post format is good for people with time constraints yet the loose nature of posting can easily lead to the story losing momentum. I want you and the group to know, I am enjoying this game and intend to play in it as long as I am able. I will also try to do better in reading the other posts and incorporating what other characters say and do in my posts.
"I don't think my joke about my checking the cannons when in fact we don't have a single cannon was successful," Dosheen-45 says to Cookie, his fellow android. "Where did you learn your socialization?" After some time of loading berries has passed Dosheen-45 says, "Once the Captain and N'than come back and help load the berries, this will go much faster."
"Does anyone have plans for spending the credits we don't have yet?" Dosheen-45 asks while he helps to unload the yaro buries from the ship onto the rig's trailer.
'Good fortune Captain," Dosheen-45 says. "I am going to stay here if you don't mind. The security of our ship is on my mind. I will check the targeting of the ship's cannons." Once he is alone, he monitors the sensors and video monitors for any beings approaching the ship.
"Captain, I am scanning the immediate vicinity for hazards and people. Also I will attempt to determine the last time Ka Imports' contact number was active."
Dosheen-45 will take the shift after Maka.
Dosheen-45 displays a live video of Ka, the Pillar of the Sky, on a corner of the main monitor. He highlights the location of the Hivemarket at its base with a little flag indicating Ka Imports and another flag indicating their landing site. "Captain, I am sending Siski's contact information to your comm"
Oh, that makes sense that piloting is not the only skill needed. Thank you Marcellus for making a schedule.
I like not knowing the secret rolls. Any secret check you want to roll for me, please do so. For manning the helm, who has Piloting? Dosheen-45 does. Maybe three people each doing an 8-hour shift? Though maybe two people doing 12-hour shifts is better.
Dosheen-45 is busy with a variety of projects. He searches the Infosphere on Yaro beries, spoilage of fruits in general; maybe using vacuum sealed containers for yaro berries; and even magic rituals to preserve food.
"It was in self-defense. I will scour the video feeds of the local cameras for evidence to exonerate you." Dosheen-45 says then climbs onto the rig.
Dosheen-45 is determined to prevent the theft of their cargo. He quickly moves along the side of the trailer.
Dosheen-45 sees their new captain hurry past, towards the back of the trailer. The android calls out, "I will check the other side!" He pockets his comm and removes his pistol from its holster. He heads for the the smallest obstacle between him and the other side of the vehicle. When he reaches the back of the rig, he steps over the hitch and stops next to the trailer's corner.
Dosheen-45 holsters his pistol and retrieves his comm. This is a good opportunity to exploit its technology. He hurries closer to their adversary. He types some commands and hopes he can cause it to glitch.
Dosheen looks up from his comm unit in surprise when he hears the captain say "That's a junkbot!" The rest of the crew is already reacting and he feels a surge of power equivalent to adrenaline. He shoves his comm back into his pocket while exiting the rig. Scanning the scene, he sees the junkbot slam N'than in the ribs. He draws his pistol and fires without hesitation.
@Supreme Being, oh thanks for the info. I saw the character sheet and thought I'd be able to interact with it. I'll make one. And I did make one, but couldn't see where to buy gear during character creation. @Marcellus I like the marching order you created. Well done! Really tactical. I would not have thought about it like that.

Dosheen-45 stops watching the old woman and accesses the infosphere to compare the hauling capabilities of various rigs.
@Marcelus, thank you for telling me about the background connection between Dosheen-45, Cookie, Maka, and Marcellus. I would not have known.
"I think our repair kit is in the hovercraft or cargo rig," Dosheen-45 says. He searches for a repair kit.
"Captain, we can request on demand labor from numerous companies and freelancers. Are we willing to spend some credits to leave sooner?"
"That is an excellent idea Marcelllus," Dosheen-45 says. "I suggest we pair according to our lifting abilities. A stronger back with a...less robust one."
Dosheen-45 peeks inside the office and thinks it might be too crowded if they all go inside. "I'll be right outside the office Captain Vegoia," the android says quietly. He stands next to the door. His eyes scan the ceiling above the aisles for obvious cameras and not-so-obvious ones. When a shopper passes him, he greets them with a slight bow of his head and "Good day."
