Whether we split the 2760gp five ways or six, I'm in.

I'm still a bit sad I didn't have the onyx to reanimate a frigging Remorhaz. Once-in-a-character's-lifetime chance missed...!

Dark Archive

"Negative Energy PUNCH!"

(I delay after Takkit, and target whoever is still left, if anyone.)

melee touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
negative energy damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Dark Archive

(@GM: No problem, looks good now!)

Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Dolores concentrates as she starts to cast a spell near two beastmen.

cast defensively: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18

She holds her arm out and, with negative energy flowing on it, punches a Taer.

Inflict Light Wounds: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
negative energy damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

As expected, she punches like a girl. (I'll hold the charge.)

Dark Archive

(@GM: In this post I rolled healing for myself after the Taer spears. In this post I asked whether that retroactive healing was in effect in the chase scene. Now I've surely had plenty of opportunities to heal, so could you update my hp please? And I would like to add that we all took 13 damage from the Taer spears while you have listed Dolores as having taken only 12.)

Dolores stays close to Zeno and Reavis, and prepares to control any approaching beastmen. "Should someone call the fire patrol?"

(Ready action to cast command "fall" on the first enemy to move to range (40 feet). Will DC 17.)

Dark Archive

Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

"Huh, you're right, I can kinda see the smoke. That can't be a good sign, can it? Our contact is in there. Let's hurry. Giddie woop!"

Dark Archive

(Hmm, which of our sleds contains the bones? If it's Sarephta's, yikes! But if they're on my sled, we are looking good.)

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Dolores continues to be ready to spook any musher who'd get on her range. "Hey, what happened to Zeno and Sarephta's sled?"

Dark Archive

GM Tyranius wrote:
@Dolores. You all took damage from the Taers spears as you were running to the sleds.

(Ah, okay, though I think that was 13 damage which probably confused me. Is it all right if my retroactive heals (as in my post above) are in effect now?)

(Posting my action in advance: Dolores readies an action to cast cause fear DC 18 when a musher becomes within 40 feet of her.)
Handle Animal to keep moving: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Dark Archive

(Where did I take 12 damage? If that's not a mistake and I simply missed it, I'll heal up and renew my false life.)
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
false life: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Dark Archive

"Hurrah! Good work everyone! Normally we could have a moment of silence for Tomas, but it's not really silent here so there's no point."

Dolores eyes the dead remorhaz. "Now, I wonder if a skeleton centipede monster would silence the crowd. I'll just- OH NO!" she yells in frustration, "I don't have enough onyx for this thing! Reanimating this thing would be child's play for me, but without the onyx there's nothing I can do. That's it, I'm organizing a fundraising campaign in Absalom: Necromancers Are People Too! I know a musician and two comedians who could attract a crowd. Oh, and that dirge bard with the dancing skeletons show-"

She goes on for a while.

(I think we should get the bones quickly before the Taer gather the courage to assault us.)

Dark Archive

Right now Dolores owns a whopping total of 17 gp and 9 sp. If we can chip some money from the scenario rewards then sure, I'll be part of splitting the bill. Got to keep the hunky melee beefs alive so I can play my fragile caster damsel!

Day Job: Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Dark Archive

(Sorry guys I'm out of spells, so to speak. The thing is immune to cause fear by virtue of having more than 5 HD, and to command because I doubt it understands any of my languages. I could use one last bestow curse but that'd need a MELEE touch attack. No thanks.)

"You guys need to kill that thing faster," Dolores mutters as she reassesses her situation and magical powers. She comes up with an idea.

"I'll summon us some help! Summon: celestial dire wolf!" She waves her hands over-dramatically, and casts a spell.

(Casting minor image to create a "celestial dire wolf" in front of the Remorhaz, between it and Takkit. Give it a good, convincing bark and/or howl! Will DC 18 to disbelief when interacted with.)

Bluff: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

Dark Archive

(Aw yeah, perfect execution, I say OOC.)

"All right, perfectly executed!" Dolores yells in glee as her curse cripples the magical beast. "But I'm not finished yet...!"

"Curse! FAIL! All your attempts are futile."

(Another reach bestow curse, this one is my last because lesser reach metamagic rod can only do it 3/day. Will DC 20 or take -4 penalty on attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks.)

Ranged touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Dark Archive

(I, uh, guess I won't be healing Tomas any longer.)

Dolores takes Tomas's gory and fiery demise with strangely little emotion. "Oh my god! It killed Tomas." she shouts deadpan.

Again she waves her rod, this time attacking the remorhaz. "Curse! STOP! You will never move freely again."

(Casting reach bestow curse. Will DC 20 or be unable to act 50% of rounds. Provided this hits, of course...)

Ranged touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 (-4 if it's in melee at that time)

(By the way, can one creature suffer multiple curses through bestow curse?)

Dark Archive

Dolores backs away and then waves her magic rod around while casting a spell. A ray of healing flies at Tomas.

(Move, then cast reach cure serious wounds, using the metamagic rod.)

Healing: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2, 8) + 6 = 17

Dark Archive

(@Tomas: I'll let you decide my action if that's all right. I can either cure serious wounds you for 3d8+6 hp, or cast bestow curse on the Remorhaz, giving you a 50% chance (not including the chance that I miss the ranged touch attack...) of not being swallowed whole.)

Dark Archive

(It seems like we have no choice but to continue digging if we want these bones out. And we do. Just don't let the remorhaz near me, please!)

Dolores keeps the rod is hand, preparing for the worst. "I wonder if my landlord back in Absalom would let keep a skeleton remorhaz as a pet..."

Dark Archive

(I decided not to reanimate the Taer. For now.)

"Is that pick supposed to shake the ground that much? Either you are a terrific excavator, or there's something else coming."

Dark Archive

Dolores casts command (Will DC 17) on the nearest (green) beast.

"FALL!"

Dark Archive

Dolores moves to stand next to Zeno and takes out a magic rod (lesser reach metamagic rod).

"Nice job taking the fog away!" she says with a giggle.

(GM, do I need the material components in hand to use animate dead, or is it enough that they are in my backpack? Usually I do reanimation out-of-combat, but I may get the opportunity to use it in this fight.)

GM Tyranius wrote:
Dolores- (-8)

(I had 8 temporary hit points left from false life before the avalanche, then took the 15 damage, and healed the remaining 7 hp. I'm at full. Speaking of which...)

Dolores takes a moment to recast false life. 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

"We are close..."

(If we need a marching formation, I suggest:)
Sarephta, Tomas
Takkit, Reavis
Zeno, Dolores

Dark Archive

Dolores spends some uses of her wand on herself.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 (Well what do you know, one use was enough.)

"So did anyone else see those monkeys uphill? Do you think they were those beast men?"

Dark Archive

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
(Well, that can't be a good sign!)

"-and then I said, 'well let's ask him!', and the guy was all like, 'WHAT?!'. I interrogated the corpse, and it turned out that the guy really had killed him! Silly cultist! You know what they say, dead men tell-"

Dolores's newest anecdote is cut short as a mass of snow sweeps over them.

"Pft! I got snow in my mouth! ...Oh my god, Tomas and Takkit were buried! We need to get them out of there, or they'll get snow on their mouths as well!"

Str: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Str: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Str: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Str: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Str: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19 (Aw yis)

Dark Archive

The spirits leave the silent corpse, and return to haunt Dolores before turning invisible. Dolores seems unfazed. "Rest in peace, and all that."

"Wily corpses sometimes tell me half-truths. It could be that he was talking about the entire Consortium or something. You know, 'my team'. Guess they can interpret the question however they want. Makes phrasing very difficult, doesn't it? Anyway, let's not worry about it too much. Onward!"

Dark Archive

"I guess he was killed by those beast men, so that's not really interesting, is it," says Dolores in response to Zeno. "Oh yeah! You're right, Reavis, he probably had some partners here! Where else would his stuff have gone? I'll ask him about that!"

With that, the restless spirits that haunt Dolores become more clearly visible. Skeletal apparitions leave Dolores, and enter the corpse of the Aspis man.

Dolores's voice echoes through the spirits, sounding as though an otherwordly choir was quietly singing alongside her words.

"Good evening! I was wondering if you could tell me, what were you ordered to do here? How many others belong to your team?"

(If his alignment was not True Neutral, he gets a Will DC 19 to resist, although with a -2 penalty.)

Dark Archive

"-and halfway through killing me, the ghoul finally fails to resist my command over undead. I mean I was still paralyzed by its allies, but it all turned out well!" Dolores's stops her blabbing to notice that the two other sleds fell. "Oh my god! We need to go help them."

---

Dolores hunches over the dead Aspis agent. "What should we ask him?"

"Oh, right," she says after seeing the confused looks on the others' faces, "you guys don't know. I can talk with dead things. And they talk back! I'm serious! Now, we only get to ask three questions, so any good ideas?"

Voice of the Grave:
Voice of the Grave (Su): You can speak with dead, as per the spell, for a number of rounds per day equal to your oracle level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. At 5th level, and every five levels thereafter, the dead creature takes a cumulative –2 penalty on its Will save to resist this effect.

"Oh, but he's an Aspis agent. He'll probably tell me to go suck something or stick something somewhere. I'll ask just two questions."

Dark Archive

(Oh no, I lost half my false life temporary health.)

"Sorry! How're you doing back there?"

"Slow incline it is! Giddy yep! Or whatever they say when they want to make them go faster. Or is that just for horses? Animals are all so alike. Like badgers and bears. This one time we were in-"

...Somehow, her story manages to derail to undead again.

Dark Archive

Sled 1: Takkit + Tomas; Handle Animal +2
Sled 2: Sarephta + Zeno; Handle Animal +1
Sled 3: Dolores + Reavis; Handle Animal +6
Is this all right? (Reavis got the best seat, this is why you gotta act fast!)

Dolores mounts one of the sleds. "I must warn you, I dislike animals. They seem like me though, at least when I don't smell like the recently deceased! There was this one time with a pack of wolves- no wait, those were zombie wolves. Good times, Pathfinding is so much fun! Anyway, they fell in love with me at first sight-"

...Her story goes on for a while.

Dark Archive

O_o That's a lot of text...

...I took the liberty of checking which of us have the highest Handle Animal skills. Turns out no one has put ranks in it (not that surprising, really), so the three mushers should be the ones with highest Charisma modifiers, right? That means me, Takkit, and Sarephta.

Then again we should also consider that DC 18 Strength check when attacking, which is very difficult for Dolores (10% success rate), and almost as difficult for Takkit (15% success rate). Sarephta has it much easier (35% success rate). That said, the other half of the party has negative Charisma modifiers, and it seems Handle Animal is going to be more important than Strength. Go figure...

I nominate Takkit, Sarephta, and Dolores as the three mushers.

Dolores examines the scrolls with interest, and hands Rysam a palmful of gold. "All I can afford at the moment is one scroll. Sorry!" She leans to Reavis and mutters, "Spent my last month's check on nothing but onyx. It's an expensive hobby!"
(Purchasing a scroll of charm animal. 20 gold for a 1st-level scroll, CL 5th is a budget price.)

"If anyone else wants to expend some gold but can't use these scrolls, I can use them for you. I'm no druid, but I think I can activate them with ease: you wouldn't believe how many scrolls you come across on Dark Archives inventory days!" (UMD +16 gets you far in life.)

Dark Archive

Dolores purchases a cold-weather outfit before departing.
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

During their trip to the Fog Peaks, Dolores entertains the group by telling 'funny' anecdotes about her travels and encounters with undead creatures, most of which end in her trying to 'befriend' said undead monstrosity while other Pathfinders are desperately fighting it.

On reaching the destination, Dolores takes a moment to cast false life. 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

"Hi! So you're the person who knows where the bones are! Splendid! Thank you!"

Dark Archive

Behind those two comes a pale woman in light grey robes. Aside from a few splatters of blood, her outfit is pristine clean. Her expression is bright, and her constant smile never seems to fade. An emblem of a fly is painted on her buckler. (Knowledge (religion) DC 10 is enough to tell that she worships Urgathoa, the goddess of disease, gluttony, and undeath.)

"I came here running!" she says gleefully, with a slight Ustalavic accent. "Did you hear what that gnome said? Bones of a sage! Oh yes, I like the sound of this mission already!"

"My name is Dolores. Matters of life, death, and undeath are my specialty and greatest interest. A pleasure meeting you." She goes to stand near the window. When she does so, the curtains begin to flow abruptly, as if shaken by a chaotic breeze.
