Well, the listing for the event that I'm going to says "Faction: Osirian." I thought that was a feature of the scenario, but maybe not. Maybe it's just an Osirian-centered plot or something.

Say a PFS scenario is written for a specific faction. Can I play a character from a different faction in that module? What restraints are there on doing this?

I believe that I could just change my 1st level character's faction, and then change it back before levelling to 2nd level, all without cost. But I'd rather not do that if possible.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably stay away from playing pregens, then. My concern is less how effective they are (a lot of that depends on play style), and more how to make them feel less... like something I don't want to play. Like, I might want to play a human ranger or a dwarven fighter, instead of the reverse. Or I might want to play a wizard, but not necessarily one who throws a cane at people.

I'm going to go to some all day event over the weekend. Since I've played exactly one PFS game, I have one character who is at 1st level. However, I might want to play at a table running a higher-level module. (I've played a lot of D&D before, including a bit of 3.5.) What are my options for PFS-sanctioned play?

I only have the core rulebook and the PFS guide for organized play, so here's what I think I've figured out: Since all PFS characters start at 1st level, I would have to play a pregen. First question: is there any exception to/way around this?

So I managed to find the official iconic pregens. Second question: what, if anything, can I do to modify one before playing? Can I change the name? Change some feats? Trade off some equipment? Re-engineer the attributes?

I apologize if this has been covered in the past.

As to politics in gaming, I've always noticed a lot of conservatives/republicans in the hobby. Which isn't necessarily weird, just not what I would have expected had I never started gaming.

I remember being called a socialist and what not in a group once when we realized we had way different outlooks on the world.

Interestingly, Gary Gygax was a big outspoken conservative. I never would have thought that, but I looked it up one day. Also, despite his (thankfully) stubborn insistence that bare-chested goddesses and references to devils and demons remain in the game during an era a lot of family and religious advocates were slandering the game as satanic, Gygax seemed to be a pretty openly religious guy. I've seen a reference to two to God and his faith.

I'm voting for Obama, btw.

...I thought we all had to vote for Mugabe?

From what I understand about loopy RPG theory, I think it might be a little off-base to try to play D&D and be anything but "gamist." Of course, I haven't looked at 4e at all. Maybe folk musician/pacifist is a class now....

Swipes aside, I didn't know anyone talked about this stuff. Oh well.
