Oh, come on, Mr. Theeldritchmrshiny, you're not going to stand for that, are you?

I don't find the people in the pics as pathetic as the person behind the camera. If you've gotta go to Walmart to feel superior, you're looking too hard.

You mean to say that you feel superior a lot, Tarren? Figures.

My aliases are very, very busy. I wonder what they get up to when I'm not around.

Wow, you and Patrick.
My concern is that I don't know any of these avatars. I hope they behave themselves.

Quiet down, Tarren, we're trying to talk in here.

I've come to associate that one with an egomaniacal hypnotist.

It's perfect!

Dayenn?

What's with all the hate? Why can't we all just be as warm hearted and loving as me?!

"And with that, the subject turned to math, the flame war narrowly averted. Remember folks, when you are faced with a crowd of raging nerds, consider bringing up 3D mapping techniques or some other sciencey subject. That's all for now. This has been your host, Dayenn Naight. See you again next week on When Nerds Attack"

And where is Dayenn Naight?

I believe he is still standing in the hallway of an asylum ... Ahem.

As you journey through the city, you notice that several large pillars of smoke mar the skyline casting an otherwise bright day into darkness. Gendarmes can be seen patrolling everywhere.

"Good evening, director. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to visit your institution. Another time, I would like to learn more about the advance you have made in treatment."

Vivienne Marais wrote:
"Well, in this case, my dear professor, might it be a thoughtful suggestion, that you accompany us to the morgue, and we follow you afterwards to the asylum? I'd like to lean on your expertise, while examing the dead twin."

Flattered but not persuaded, Dayenn answers "There really is much for me to do at the asylum. Let us go our separate ways for now and compare notes this evening."

Dayenn follows the gendarme.

The Witchbrand wrote:

"Of course they've read your works. That's why they're in the asylum."

Dayenn does not perceive the insult but responds, quite pleased, "I was thinking of the caretakers but ... well, I guess it is possible some of the inmates have read my work as well."

"Very well then, Marshall," says Dayenn feeling quite proud of himself, "Is there anything more you would like to tell us before we depart?"

Male Human Beguiler 1

"The asylum. This is going to be a treat for all of us," says Dayenn, genuinely enthusiastic. "I would be interested in seeing any advances made in the care and understanding of mental illnesses. I wonder if anyone there has read my proposal on restorative bathing."

Male Human Beguiler 1

'Why does the human male tend to fantasize about twins,' wonders Dayenn 'Must be something about the idea of two females, entirely interchangeable, no individual significance to either of them, debasing themselves ... OH!'

Dayenn drifts off into his own little fantasy about twins.

Radavel wrote:

"... However, the mental fortitude that you have displayed makes me think ..."

"Yes, 'mental fortitude'," Dayenn says raising an eyebrow at Grim and Nathan and yawning significantly.

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Should we make arrangements through you to visit the asylum? We should get started before memory does its dirty business and soils our only lead," says Dayenn thinking he's both witty and poetic.

Male Human Beguiler 1

"The place to start will certainly be a hypnotic inquiry," Dayenn says, his ego swelling beyond tolerability.

"Debby? No, I believe his name is Tarren or Darren or something silly like that. Not important. He makes good scones; that's what matters."

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Perhaps sir, you could begin by telling us all that you know about the matter." Dayenn suggests.

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Well, there is your answer sir! We are 'in'. ... Now, if only Darren would get here with those refreshments."

Radavel wrote:

He regards Dayenn, "Professor, I know you. Or should I say I know of you and your work at the university. Perhaps, you and your companions would like to do a little consultancy work for the gendarmes. I admit that our office is not trained and equipped to deal with what is happening. I cannot reveal more unless I have your word of honor that you will take the commission and keep everything that you discover confidential."

"I'd also want similar assurances from your assistants. I'm sorry but the situation is getting out of hand and I cannot afford it getting out that we are not in control. There would be panic in the streets to say the least."

"I'm not hesitant to take this assignment but I cannot speak for my assist ... for my colleagues. As for myself, this has presented a mystery of sorts ... the kind that stimulates an academic mind... What could possess a man in the way that we say tonight?" Dayenn says addressing the adventurers and gendarmes like they were students "What forces ... and I do not mean here supernatural forces ... could give a man such strength and willpower. The answer to that question will be most edifying."

"Oh, I'm certainly 'in'. How about the rest of you?"

Glad you finally checked out the discussion thread.

"Yeah, so? I was checking out her binaries then, okay?"

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Excuse me! I was checking out Vivienne. What were you looking at? Witchbrand?"

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Sir. You have ordered us to restrain the snake and we will comply. If you wish to detain us any longer sir, we will comply. If you would prefer to question us out of the prying eyes of the public, we can use our residence across the street so that you can do your business more discretely."

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn is sure he is missing something.

"Dear Marshall, witnesses will tell you, that the this weird looking comrade at the table was cleaved down by the mad cook. Only after we had revived him from his near fatal wounds, he called upon the snake to attack the cook, as the ravening madman was still advancing on his victim. He only did that out of fear for his life and the life of the intended victim of the cook. No other guests were harmed by the snake, and you can see clearly, that it follows his orders."

Diplomacy Check (1d20 7=19)

Dayenn checks out Vivienne's diplomacy skills with great appreciation.

"The lady has summarized the events quite nicely. If you would like to further investigate, sir, we could go inside. I'm sure that something refreshing could be brought from the kitchen while we explained what happened and where."

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn re-enters the cafe and suggests a quick orderly exit.

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Some people just don't know how to say 'thanks'," mumbles Dayenn as he exits the building with his hands visible.

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Sorry about the 'sleep'. I thought this was a set up and that 'Witch' and 'Grim' were its targets. Now, I think we all were. Ensuring there was no combat seemed the best way out of here but ...," Dayenn begins.

"I suggest we comply," says Dayenn. "So-called 'normal' looking people first."

If there are no objections ...

Dayenn opens the door slowly and exits holding in one hand a pinch of wool hidden between his thumb and foreginger (spell components for 'Daze').

"I would like to speak to whoever is in charge here."

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn scans the restaurant for anyone who looks suspicious -- present company excluded, of course.

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn looks at 'Witch' and the others and the man stumbling forward and realizes he may have screwed up "The mind is a mysterious thing!" he says while drawing a dagger and rushing into the fray.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

Yes, plural. c o m b a t a n t s. ;-)

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn steps quietly forward while preparing to use his 'amazing control over the human mind' to cause the combatants to sleep.

He's casting sleep on the combatants.

Male Human Beguiler 1

The self-proclaimed 'professor' eats mostly sweet things and avoids anything that might fill his stomach and make him feel sleepy.

With some amusement, he watches the party watching the room.

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn thanks the gendarme and returns to the table with the invitation tucked inside his jacket.

He is quite effusive in his greeting. "Monsieur Fouchard! You have found me. I cannot hide!! I jest. Please, sit! Join us for breakfast. We have been having the most interesting adventures travelling through dangerous woods at night. You've met my travelling companions and ... unless I miss my guess, by the look on your face you know Vivienne? Please, sit. We will order more food and until they bring it you can share ours which should be here soon. After breakfast we are going to return to the house and ... and ... and ... I have no idea but we will find something to do. Anything!"

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn tries to finnagle an invitation for the dangerous looking crew.

Diplomacy check 1d20+6=9 ... guess this guard is immune to my charisma.

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn continues to press the Gendarme on whether or not his friends can attend the event.

"Yes, I would be delighted to attend but I have ... guests staying with me at this time. I don't suppose the invitation could be extended to include them as well? If not, no matter. I'm sure they will find much to keep themselves occupied."

Male Human Beguiler 1

Dayenn slips away from the table and stumbles his way to the gendarme.

If I recognize him: "Yes? You wanted to see me?"

If I do not recognize him: "Yes? I am Dayenn Naight?"
