I can't bloody sleep. I'll doze off for 30 minutes then be awake 45. It's going to make a hell of day later. It's 5:30 AM where I am, and the temps today are supposed to be in the upper 90s. The air conditioner in my vehicle is out and I have a lot of driving to do later. I'm going to be in such a good mood (smell that? That's sarcasm).

They say regular exercise helps with your ability to fall asleep at night.

So maybe you need to go for a Run DMC.

Even though that statement is true, it was brought up 100% entirely for the purpose of delivering that pun.

As a lover of puns, I applaud you for that one. Sadly, due to my weight and bad leg, I haven't been able to run in 2 decades. So it's walk or limp DMC for me.

Walk DMC, the Run DMC slow jazz cover band.

Ooh a place for a quick vent that my local group probably won't see? Good, maybe I won't burst this weekend lol

Not a fan of my current 5e DM. It's his first time doing it, been playing for several years (just a little longer than me), so I try not to fault him too much for mistakes. Unfortunately he seems afraid to kill characters, and he lets his OOC thoughts affect the game in a way they shouldn't.

Not that anyone wants to die, but what fun is it without at least the risk? As an example, he noticed a while back that his lightning bolt could only kill me, due to making my save, if he rolled 1s on every die. Guess what happened? He miraculously roll a total of 8... on 8d6. Then in another session, upon hitting hard enough to take me down, a player said "Oh shoot, how close are you?" I told him I was down from it, and the GM says he wouldn't have attacked me if I knew that. I'm the big goliath bard in the center of everything destroying everything in my path, and he tries to convince me that everyone would have turned their attention to less threatening members of the group over killing the barely standing behemoth...

Then there's the outside thoughts. He bought printed maps on large sheets so we wouldn't have to draw them anymore. Realized after buying them that they had 10ft squares and that had a major effect on sizing as he decided to just use them as 5ft, because damnit he spent money on them and that wasn't going to waste no matter the side effects. Of course, my bard was built around AoE, which now meant wrecking my party every turn. He let me change my archetype to a single target focus, which was the least of my concern since my spells were useless. Then he let me change a small number of spells to hit the level of slightly playable. After that though, he wouldn't let me change the feat that I took, bypassing ability increases and better feats just to get single target spells for my AoE build.

So, what is my character now? I'm not really sure. It's a goliath bard that I'm pretty sure just pokes things with a rapier and not much else and kinda tanks without having tank abilites. It's Frankenstein's monster and I don't really enjoy playing him anymore. We've been on hiatus for a group member's kids visiting, and this Saturday is the first time since I started tabletop gaming that I'd rather just stick to games than starting back up on D&D or Pathfinder.

Nope. Permanancy, banhammered WAY too exploitable.

What's exploitable about permanency on an Enlarged Half Orc Barbarian?

And this is why I avoid certain alignments with my characters. If I have to listen to someone laughing every six seconds between encounter, my fighter is likely turning around and starting some PvP

Prestige Points aren't worth any specific value. There are very specific things you can spend your points on, you don't just buy whatever with them.

See page 26 of the PFS guide for a table of what you can do with your prestige points regardless of your faction. The Field Guide has certain items you can buy based on your faction.

Liberty's Edge

Ah OK, gotcha. In that case, I agree it's a "just because", especially when it's free.

I took it for the same reason I won't watch HSN. "Do I really need that? No, it's pointless, no reason to take it... but I can have it, so what the hell."

EDIT:One of these posts I'm going to remember to select to post as my character instead of my main avatar, instead of having to edit it 5 minutes later when I remember it.

Dorothy, I'd love to say there was some special loophole I found, but I actually just started spouting information without mentioning a pretty important piece of info -- I also took my 12 Dex / 14 Wis and reversed them so my Dex mod is one higher.

Derek, I wouldn't call +1 to attack "just because"

Don't worry, 30gp is peanuts, but 31 is chocolate and 29 is pure happiness. Just don't ever handle precisely 30gp (29 and 10sp is fine) and you'll be safe.

Derek, Darkwood bows count as masterwork, so it's more than just the weight (which, yes, is a part I basically ignored and couldn't care less about).

Tony, I'll definitely have to look into that. Once I get 1000gp buy a darkwood +6 Comp bow, and keep it drenched in the blood of my fallen enemies.

Liberty's Edge

Just grabbed a +3 STR Darkwood bow. +4 ATK / 1d8 + 3 damage is way better than the +2 ATK / 1d8 damage Light Crossbow I had before...

I'd rather have the x3 Crit too, instead of 19-20/x2

Liberty's Edge

Aww you got my hopes up, I'm in Core and "adaptive" is not. That's a great property too that I'd love to have. I'm already a +4 Strength, and quite frankly would just save the gold to buy a +4 if not for the fact that I want to still be proficient when fatigued after my rage.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm, I didn't think about the prestige, for darkwood that's definitely great. Composite Longbow with +1 ATK / +3 DMG for 2 prestige points... yea no question :)

Liberty's Edge

Awesome, thanks a lot you guys. I figured it was like that, but I wanted to make sure before I start my next session and get told I wasn't allowed to have bought it.

Liberty's Edge

So, I just finished my first session of Pathfinder Society (played Core), and I had a blast! I'm looking at potential purchases, and like the Composite Longbow. However, I'm a little confused. I see the following quote in the Guide to PFS

can nonmagical aspects of equipment be upgraded (such
as the strength rating on a composite bow).

Obviously I can't upgrade a composite longbow I own. Is buying a composite longbow with increased strength rating considered an upgrade? Or is it only upgrading if I already own the longbow? Can I buy a brand new composite longbow with, say, a +2 STR rating for 300gp?

I looked around the forums for this and couldn't find anything.
