I'm kind of new to writing fanfic so I'm looking for some reviews of my stuff. I've decided to write some fanfic detailing the new adventures of the Enterprise crew after the events of the latest movie. Enjoy if you're interested and reviews are very welcome. Only two chapters so far. But more are coming!
The Starfleet d20 ranking system. Okay. Here's what I came up with for player ranks. Each Starfleet character in a d20 Star Trek game has a rank score. The score can be improved in two ways: For every rank the character has in the Profession skill, the character has 1 point of rank. Selecting the Promotion feat (see below) improves the character's rank by 6 points. Rank Score and Corresponding Starfleet Rank 0 Midshipman or Noncommissioned Officer
New Feat Promotion [General]
Ever since the release of the 2009 Star Trek movie, I've been thinking of running a Star Trek RPG. Unfortuneately, none of the "official" star trek rules systems seems as easy or as adaptable as the d20 system. With that in mind, I've been thinking of ways of adapting the d20 Future rules to capture the feel and options of the Star Trek Universe. Here's what I came up with so far for a game set in the 23rd century... Technological Options: Base Progress Level of 8 Phasers: Miniaturized (Small Size) Disintegrator (3d8 dmg) with a Stun Module (Fort DC 15) Phaser Rifle: Disintegrator (3d8 dmg) with a Stun Module (Fort DC 18) Transporter: Transport Disk Tricorders: Multiple Use Item (Mechanicomp Sensor and Electricomp Sensor) Medical Tricorder: Medicomp Sensor Starships: As a general rule of thumb, Starfleet ships are equipped with phasers (Maser cannons) and photon torpedoes (Starload missiles). Alien starships may be equipped with more esoteric weapons as the campaign dictates. Most ships in D20 Future can be converted for use in a Star Trek campaign. For example, the USS ENTERPRISE is a standard Cruiser with Maser Cannons, Starload Missiles, a Tractor Beam, and a Particle Field to represent shields. Player and Character Options: Starfleet Character Starting Occupations: Command Officers: White Collar
In addition, the Astronaut Trainee profession is suitable for pretty much any Starfleet career except command officers. Obviously as characters advance in level and rank, they may take any position in Starfleet the DM assigns. These rules are for 1st level characters. That's all have so far. I'm working on rules for character races and and a system to represent rank.

Ah. Just found out their names. So for hottest new Iconic we have Feiya, the Chaotic Good Desna-worshipping witch. The runner up is Imrijka, the NG half-orc Inquisitor of Pharasma.
The votes are in. Over the past week, the votes for hottest Iconics have been collected in this thread. The results are here! Our categories were: Hottest male Iconic: Valeros, the hunky human fighter. With Sajan the Monk our runner up. Hottest female Iconic: Surprisingly enough, Amiri was voted the hottest of the female Iconics, with Seoni the sorcere coming in second. Most talented Iconic: Our voters chose Lem the Bard the most talented Iconic character, with Merisiel the runner up. Most likely to be eaten by a monster: Lem will have trouble accepting his award for most talented Iconic, as he is also the winner of the Most likely to be eaten by a monster award. Regards to the tentacles dragging him away. Lem is joined in the Aboleth's stomach by Valeros, the runner up for most likely monster fodder. Finally, of the new Iconics introduced in the Paizo blog, the Human Witch was voted the hottest. The runner up was the Inquisitor. Yay for half-orc love!

SWEET
So we've begun the campaign. It's a spectacularly beautiful book. The adventures are amazing, the setting is superbly detailed, the plot is wonderful, and the players are having a blast. The only problem I might foresee is they may be gaining XP too fast. They are in Jzadirune right now, and XP is pouring in left and right. They ran into trouble with the mimic, but I had Fario and Fellian come to their rescue. Now the half-elves are traveling with them and they're evening out the XP awards. Because there are only 3 characters, they get bigger shares of XP when they defeat tough monsters. Is this making them too powerful? Or should I allow this and let them be a little "ahead of the curve" for those tough monster fights when only 3 PCs is a hindrance?

Certainly not the equal of Seoni or the Witch in certain departments, but I don't think the plate mail makes her gender neutral or anything.
Don't forget the nature of the person selling the wand. If it's a disreputable fellow he might have a strict "No Identify" rule in his shop. To "discourage thieves casing the joint". He might have sell wands with less than full charges at full price, marketing them as brand new. Or a magic shop could have a "bargain bin" of sorts, where every wand is half price and has a random number of charges. 2d20 sounds good. You might get 2 charges or 40 for your gold.
Who's hooking up with whom among the Iconics? Who should be? Which ones wouldn't be caught dead next to certain fellow adventurers? In the vein of my other Iconic thread, share your opinions and favorite Iconic ships. I personally think that in the middle of some harrowing adventure, Kyra and Valeros are going to quit playing games and admit how they feel.

If you read The Crypt of the Everflame Playtest you'll see Amiri isn't a slouch in the mental department, especially with the way Lisa portrays her.

I think I remember James saying that full color pictures and their bios will be released soon to build up hype for the APG.

Kyra I would put second though. It's a difficult choice for me because there are aspects that I like in all of them. I personally like the look in Merisiel's eyes. There's something otherworldly there. And while I generally don't like tattoos, it works for Seoni. And agreed. Kyra has a kind of mysterious quality I can't put my finger on. And while I get people attracted to Amiri's "tough girl" mystique, it's not my cup of tea. The voters don't lie though. She's in first place so far. We'll see how it turns out.
Vote for the hottest Iconic! Let's see who's the most popular of our dear Paizo characters. The candidates are... The lovely ladies: Amiri
But don't forget the hunky fellows: Lem
Our categories for voting are: Most attractive male
Special Category:
Human Cavalier
Let's have a week of voting and find out. Let the voting begin! One vote per poster for each category. Contest is subject to local Magnimarian laws. No charm person spells. Iconics using bodily harm to encourage voting one way or the other will be disqualified (I'm looking at you and your daggers Merisiel)

Yeah. Reading the responses here I'm thinking I'll include "guest star" npcs from time to time in particularly vicious parts of the AP. This'll ease up on some of the strain and give the PCs more of a connection to Cauldron if they get to know and rely on certain npcs.
Having the PCs be locals is certainly a route I'm thinking of. I have one player interested in being a traveler looking to set down roots (missionary of pelor) but that might work just as well if the character is actively trying to become part of the city. I was going to set the preview adventure outside of the city. But now that you suggest it, Gimenez, saving an inn or other beloved local business or helping out family is a great idea and a great way for the PCs to meet if they create characters with no ties to each other. Thanks everyone! I'm biting my nails till the book arrives. 12 days seems so long!
Hey all, I just ordered the Shackled City AP book and expect to be running the campaign withing two or three weeks with the 3.5 rules. As of right now, I have three players. One is considering a human fighter and one is thinking about an elven rogue. The third is undecided, but wavering between human paladin, human cleric, and dwarf ranger. All three are open to new character concepts to make the party balanced. What are your thoughts? Can the party make it with only three players? Should I run an opening adventure to give them a little extra xp? Will the absence of either a divine or arcane spellcaster mean disaster? Thanks. This AP looks great.
