I have decided to close this game. I don't think I will be able to from early stumbles. I will leave this open for a day before marking as inactive, if anyone would like to voice comments or criticism I am available for PM as well.

I really do apologize though I hope those of you who have never played Deathwatch enjoyed the small experience you did have. If I decide to make a second attempt in the future I will contact you all first.

I think things are going fine. Of course if you want to end it I can't stop you, but from my point of view things seem fine.

Dapphon will flip his fire selector to kraken rounds, take a half action to aim, and fire a round at whoever looks like the squad leader.

base BS 55, short range +10, half action aim +10, accurate for +10, red dot sight +10 for a total of 95.1d100 left leg hit, no degrees of success, astartes targeter gives -10 to dodge against my shooting.

I forgot my damage bonuses from tactical marine ability in solo mode, mighty shot and master crafted. So it is actually 22 damage pen 8.

Dapphon with drop pods landing throughout the city will you change your course at all?

Unless directed otherwise he will try to avoid drop sites.

Once we meet the dreadnought, Dapphon will lead the group towards the deathguard force he made contact with.

Dapphon will lead the team away from the slaughter and back to the dreadnought.

Dapphon thinks that fighting here is a bad idea but he will not abandon his brothers if here is where we make our stand. Still I think the disagreement within the group is very fitting of this stage of isstvan III.

I'm going to level with you Dapphon: there are easily 500 officers that could have survived the initial bombardment among the Death Guard alone. As much as I'd like to give you the information you want, I don't the will to name that many people let alone keep track of them.

In combat, shoot an enemy with his stalker boltgun using whatever ammo is most appropriate for the target.

Out of combat he will agree with Brother Toc.

Where are you navigating to Dapphon?

In his continued attempts to raise some order out of the voxs chaotic command and general channels Dapphon learns that several officers of his own legion and other legions have survived with some still under fire from some force.

towards the biggest grouping of officers from his legion. presumably they have a decent sized force that the party can link up with.

Dapphon will attempt to navigate.

Dapphon will take point sticking to places where his camocloak will do the most good.

"To any surviving death guard units, this is recon sgt Dapphon. I have met with a few survivors and we are attempting to reunite with any other survivors."

I think so, the effects are vastly different than orbital bombardment or nuclear bombs.

Dapphon hands the magnoculars over.

"Five marines and a dreadnought make little difference regardless of the reasons that force descends, we need to link up with other survivors and come up with a better plan than charge towards the fight."

Do we want to approach that LZ? For all we know they are firing on marines. Can any of you get through to an officer on the ground?

Toc "I believe it is the standard World Eater formation known as attack with everything immediately, they are not know for their brilliant planning."

Sgt Dapphon leads the group off towards whatever looks like the most intact structure within sight, using his monoculars. Once he has a bearing he uses standard astartes hand signals to indicate that they should move out.

Tyranius"Brother Dreadnought, you have a more powerful communications array than any of the rest of us, can you pick up any orbital signals?"

"Brother dreadnought who do you stand with when sides become unclear, to whom is your ultimate loyalty?"

"I serve the Emperor as always. There are only ever 2 sides to a fight, the Emperor's and the enemy. Tell me brother, have you ever fought on the same field as him? You don't even have to see him to feel the presence with you and you know in every fibre of your being that you will see victory that day.

So we determine who still fights for the Emperor and kill anyone else. Does that make the situation clear brother?"

"The life eater virus can only be deployed by the order of the Emperor or his sons, perhaps only the Emperor and the warmaster. To release such an agent on a world with friendly troops is unthinkable. Even our Primarch has never deployed it under such circumstances. All coms are messed up right now, nothing orbital is getting in or out.

And if you are thinking maybe this was a terrible accident, stop. One life eater virus canister would not do this, a planned bombardment was needed. War has been declared this day, the sides are unclear at this point."

"Indeed but trust is not to be taken lightly at this point brother Toc. Brother fights brother and fathers fight sons. I am in the ruins about 250 meters ahead of you. What do you know of this legionaire from the III?"

"they made that crusty old man an officer? Check your breastplate marine, you won't hear the shot before it is fired, and that dot is where it will hit. The answer to my next question is very important, which of the merican hives was your captain from?"

Brother Toc should be able to see a red dot on his breastplate from the sgt's targeting array.

whatever answer you give to the question will be right, even if the answer is a different location than the merican hives of terra.

time to try a looping message I believe.

The next message Sgt Dapphon sends out is looped to transmit every 30 seconds for the next couple of minutes. It takes listening a couple times to get the full message.

"This is recon Sgt Dapphon of the 2nd dusk raider company, my co-ordinates are 11D AE 0117 6732."

Sgt Dapphon will position himself in cover about 100 meters from the co-ordinates and wait.

until we find out otherwise I made up a random number using NATO standard co-ordinates.

"Thi...This is reco...geant Dapphon of the 2nd....sk raider...any. Your Sig... is weak and... icult to unders... transmit, your.... on a looping.... cast. Serg... phon, out."

Dapphon has the theoretical skill to be the leader, command being a trained skill and good fellowship. But he tends to work better in solo mode and fighting at long range, well outside of the range for squad more with close combat guys.

Bother Toc then, he is also a Tactical marine.

Dapphon rocks solo mode, so he is not a good choice.

Dapphon exits the bunker he took shelter in, and begins checking his gear to ensure it is still functional.

I vote for the dreadnought.

It is true Dapphon can't deal with everything. But that is why there is team that specializes in dealing with different things.

In solo mode with a half action to aim, Dapphon has a 95% chance of hitting the target as long as he can see it. He ignores all penalties due to long or extreme range. With stalker rounds the enemy won't even hear the bolter round.

Dapphon will make sure that heavy weapons guys are among his first targets to help keep the big killy machine that is a dreadnought, big and killy.

I too suspect the half-elf knows more than he has said. And his handling of this incident seems far too incompetent for someone who runs a castle.

Something like that I think Dapphon is the only finished character though.

Nothing wrong with killing things up close, Dapphon just prefers it when others do the up close killing while he shoots things.

Probably a straight upgrade, I looked online but my search-fu failed me. :(

straight upgrade as far as I am aware.

I couldn't figure out what buying better quality (exceptional/master) weapons actually does for you.

Can anyone explain it or point me in the right direction?

pg 147 for weapons and pg 165 for armour. Took me a while to find it as well.
