"Friend Dalviss, is there anything that we should know before we leave?"
"The Nesher Brothers were in town when the supposed meteorite fell and crashed. They said they were going in search of the crash site. They were out in the hills for a few days, I believe. Some folk said they saw them return to their mines. But no one in town has seen the brothers since. The two men have disappeared."
Dalviss rubbed at his beard.
"The mines are located about 13 miles southwest of Dustpawn. The mine opening is at the base of the hill -- widened and braced with timbers. Above the entrance there is a painted sign announcing 'Nesher Mines'. You may want to take your horses and the mule. Have you enough ropes and lanterns?"
Dalviss drew a pouch from inside his long coat. He carefully took out the required coinage and handed each of you 25 gold pieces.
"Go see Jodysa at the General Store before you leave. Use the coin I gave you ... for any extra items you may need for your investigation of the mines."
Okay, so the 25gp each is a gift from Lefty and I (and Dalviss!) for all the good work you have done so far and for breaking 1000 postings in this game. Thank you from us. Keep up the good work!
We can bypass the rp with the gnome proprietoress of the General Store. Just let Lefty and I know what you will purchase with your coin over on the discussion thread. You can pool your funds for a more expensive purchase, if you'd like. Thanks.
"...The moment Coat and the new guy return, let's head to the mines."
Dalviss' scratched at his white beard, his pale-blue eyes roaming the occupants around the table.
"Misters Antairis and Rallos have gone to Sahriah Fastleaf's house. I can give you directions to her place, if you'd like to go there. Just let me know..."
Aside to Dalviss, "Do not forget breakfast for the guest that arrived yesterday. I imagine she is quite famished."
Giving a perceptible nod, Dalviss stood up slowly, favouring his old wounded leg, and moved to the counter and had a quiet word to Nalan who a moment later disappeared back into the kitchen.
Returning to the table to finish breaking his own fast, Dalviss smiled at Ayreth before softly replying, "It is done, Mistress Ayreth. Thank you for the reminder. I had meant to undertake it earlier, but was sidetracked by this new fellow." He gently patted her hand with his older, lined one.
Dalviss' crinkled blue eyes were looking red and tired. Seeing you enter the hall, he lifted his hand (the one free of the coffee mug) and waved you over the table.
"Good morning, all! I hope you slept well last night. I can't say my sleep was all that restful. Still, not to worry ... Come, join us. I have someone I'd like to introduce to the party."
Dalviss' smiled -- it was friendly enough but the old adventurer seemed to have the jitters and would occasionally give a wild jolt but would settle down just as readily.
As he sat, Dalviss' peered around the hall and lowered his voice accordingly,
"Another has come in answer to my summons and happily your group grows by one. Let me introduce you to Linndell Rallos. He has much to catch up on even though you have only been in town a day longer than he. Yet, I'm certain you will welcome him and make your own introductions."
Dalviss, cradling the mug in his hand, lifted it and took another sip of his hot, black coffee. "Breakfast won't be long."
Cue music: Enter the new player. PCs feel free to interact.
"They walked into the Mineshaft with some bags between them. I noticed no horses stabled, so I supposed they came in on foot."
Dalviss' crinkled blue eyes peered at the adventurer before him.
"I have not followed them after dark. They leave the inn on foot and from here I have no idea where they travel to. Perhaps to the mines, perhaps elsewhere. I have not kept track of their movements for I had no reason to be suspicious of paying patrons. I run a business, and I was more concerned about what fell from the sky and my missing cook than four quiet strangers."
When questioning turned to the four prospectors, Dalviss chuckled, "Son, the prospectors said they were Druma and appeared human - men like you and me. I can't tell you anymore than that. They kept to themselves -- didn't bother me nor Nalan."
When the adventurer began asking about the stableboy, Dalviss' looked toward the bar and the sullen Nalan cleaning the bartop.
"Tommi? He's Nalan's kid and I've never questioned the boy's or the father's honesty. Nalan runs the stables, Tommi helps out."
