Chill of the Grave: I'm also not terribly excited about giving away Deathbound spells like this.

Ice Dagger: Hrm. Compared to Magic Missile, you get twice the progression rate of your damage and splash damage but lose the auto-hit and +1 damage per die that Magic Missile has. Of course, the splash damage is practically worthless. I guess I'd allow it but I don't really see a point for it when you can just Magic Missile something.

Baleful Transposition: OK, but I'd consider changing the range to close to prevent some of the things that made me hate Baleful Transposition back in the day.

Belker Claws: The wording for this is odd. Do you get an additional 2d12 damage per 3 caster levels, do you just get an additional round to make another touch attack, or does the spell do damage over time without needing another touch? As long as you do not add more damage and still have to make touch attacks which I think is the case, this is a fine spell and nice for Spellstrike.

Bonefiddle: I cannot see any reason to use this spell but you're welcome to.

Dance of Ruin: I guess... Since it doesn't scale damage and can hurt your allies I suppose I can't complain.

Rainbow Beam: At first glance, a little on the strong side. I'd need convincing.

Whirling Blade: Unless the touch spell you Spellstrike is allowed more than one target (like Chill Touch) you'll only get the spell damage once. Still, it's a neat spell.

Blacklight: Erm...I don't think so. One level higher than Darkness but has the no Darkvision allowed ability of Deeper Darkness expect you can just see in it? Nope.

Hailstones: OK

Ice Lance: Little strong.

Rainbow Blast: OK, I guess.

Rust Ray: OK.

Thanks for the feedback YuenglingDragon, I wanted to see a few different spells before the Ultimate Magic comes around. Will scour the APG and Core again, maybe post in a different area of the boards for fixing some of the unbalanced 3.5 spells for use. For the Belker Claws, I would say that you would need to do the touch attacks (part of the reason I picked it) and for Whirling Blade, even if it was only one target for the Spellstrike the additional attacks at my highest BAB is sweet (especially with Arcane Pool abilities) since I can buff my to hit.

I want to bring some spells from 3.5 over to Pathfinder for a lower level Magus (he is level 6 now and I am hoping to cover wicked and appropriate spells up to 6th level. I have a list of some from the Spell Compendium and of course cannot wait for Ultimate Magic. Also with the Magus is he able to make custom spells the same as other classes?

Any advice appreciated

Here we go:

1st level spells
Chill of the Grave
Ice Dagger

2nd level spells
Baleful Transposition (one of my fav's)
Belker Claws
Bonefiddle
Dance of Ruin
Rainbow Beam
Whirling Blade (great for those spell strikes)

3rd level spells
Black Light
Hailstones
Icelance
Rainbow Blast
Rust Ray

After blitzing through the items, I can see why they made the top 32, impressive stuff, good luck in future rounds I will be watching with anticipation.

And who says there can't be an arc from the person attacked and the wielder? This is magic we are talking about. It's like if you ever played Oblivion that has a power that drains your opponent. A current of power flows from the player to the target while the spell is in effect, even if they are apart from each other.

I don't think you understand how magic works XP

(jk)

Sure I do. You have 5 sources of mana with which to tap to gather for casting of monsters, spells or artifacts. I prefer a Red/Black deck myself. But, have had fun with Blue/White weenie decks.

Wait, what?

I myself have been playing Magic for years but that is another story for another time lol. The best bet it seems for me so far is to go with the needing to hold the weapon for it to have effect, my thinking being that if they wanted an arc they would of allowed ranged items (despite the range difference) to have the ability with a certain range to be effective.

The question: One of my players asked if they would take damage if they tossed the melee weapon with Vicious? I stated that yes its a melee weapon but as soon as its thrown it becomes a ranged attack and if you cannot take the disruptive damage the other half cannot function. Any ideas or evidence for against?

Then I guess its appropriate for all those who entered who dont make the top 32 to embrace the supposed salute the ancient gladiators said to the emperor before entering the colloseum: "Those who are about to die salute you!"

Wait... the penalty for not making the top 32 is DEATH? Dude, Paizo got major harsh this year. Guess you really were the softest judge.

Lucky for me I stocked up on 1000gp worth of special oil for my parties Druid to use reincarnate.

I work nights, its going to be a crazy day. I have my weekly gaming and watching my little guy. All while watching each grain of sand slip down the hourglass.

Good luck to everyone who entered, this is bigger then Christmas!

Played with several groups over the years, along with many different rpg games. I have a group I play with once a week, its a large group of 8-9 people depending on who shows up. I would DM for a large portion of the time (we would switch every few months if someone had a good idea or arc they wanted) but the communication was horrible.

I work nights and I have a family, so my downtime is precious, I came to a session all ready to play with no one there, everyone had cancelled and no one bothered to tell me, when I asked they stated they thought someone else would tell me. Moved on from that and it started disintegrating slowly, people were not interested in playing their characters or would be fiddling on their laptops, showing up late for sessions or trying to kill off their characters to play new ones. Tried to hold things together but to no avail.

I finally had enough and played with another group this one was one of my classmates while I was at University. The group consisted of my classmate, his brother (the DM), two more friends and myself. The whole idea of the campaign was great and it seemed to go good times ahead until the houserules started pouring in. We were playing 3.5 and I was excited, until I found out that spellcasters take a -2 level adjustment "because they are broken" and a host of other rules that were garbage, as well as I was not allowed to DM despite my many years of doing so.

We decided on playing characters from the Savage Species books and the party consisted of A Rhakhasa, Mummy, Succubus and myself a Githzerai (I had wanted to be a Vampire since they were along the same starting CR but wasnt allowed) but I played him as a Ninja and was satified. The parties stats soon skyrocketed into the high 20-30's with my own staying at fairly normal range. Then I noticed that the DM was favoring his brother immensely (as in he should of died about 3 times) and was getting sweet treasure. We could not come to a decent balance point even when one of the other players and myself spoke to the DM.

I left that group and returned to my previous one that I play Pathfinder with now. We played a few other systems to get over their fatigue of 3.5 (I do not seem to have that problem as I can play any system any amount of time and be fine) we gather once a week at a decent rate and the gaming is slowly getting better, its hard with a big group to keep under control and give everyone their time to shine but I have a few advocates among the group so that when it starts to slip again we will pounce on it the first opportunity. For any of those that got to the end of this post congrats, you have passed the first of the 12 labors set before you.

As others have stated good luck to all, its going to be an awesome ride.

Lots of varied responses, thanks for all the input. My character and his history was to help the DM with a hook for my group. Things have changed around and I am still looking at different races to play for a campaign of my own (we take turns every few months to help prevent DM fatigue) I think a party of monsters would be a interesting switch. When and if we do I think I will look into Thomas LeBlancs option and break them down. Shar Tahl I read your James Jacobs link and found it helpful, thanks.

Lord of Admonition page 406 of the Core Book states about monsters to be used as pc's and later states that some are not really made to be played with a group of normals (which I can agree too) but they do list the level difference for the other party members being a level higher (aka level adjustment so to speak) for balance. I understand they are powerful and can lead to broken builds but I am a power gamer and could do that with whatever build of regular races and classes I want anyway. I have been playing RPG's (paper and dice) for about 16 years, a little change here and there is welcome to keep things interesting.

Finally Greg, it was going to lead to the Underdark (I have read about 30 some odd books relating to it, plus plenty of rpg books and such) part of the difference about the change in plans is that I argued that our party would be killed in a very brutal fashion (we are only 5th, almost 6th) and would not be prepared for the Predator around every corner and under every stone that is the Underdark. I stated it should be something that a higher level party should attempt so hence the change.

Our group is new to Pathfinder,I myself am new to the boards, this contest is amazing. I have dabbled in making items in 3.5 but nothing so concise and guided. The help has been enormous with the previous posts and the auto-reject advice. Surely not saying anything everyone else has said but I felt it needed to be said again. Its going to be a long 18 days of waiting : )

Thanks for the responses, both options seem balanced and viable, Shar Tahl, your answer reminds me of the 3.5's Savage Species (which I have used before in previous campaigns) and works. Thomas LeBlanc you're solution is based off of the templates in the back of the beastiary for building monster races I believe. I will talk to my Dm and see which option he will prefer. On a final note I was doing a bit more research for comparison and the Drow Noble seems to have quite a few stat boosts, at will magical abilities and powerful spell resistance. To quote the Beastiary "Drow nobles are defined by their class levels—they do not possess racial Hit Dice. A drow noble's challenge rating is equal to her class level. Drow nobles possess all of the racial traits listed above for drow character. Just wondering where the balance between the two comes in?

Hello everyone, I wanted to see about using a Dark Stalker as a PC, I only want his spell like abilities and the poison use. I have looked at the humanoid table for constructing creatures and I understand it, but its the adding of the spell like abilities that is getting me. I am posting mostly for the reason that an Aasimar or Tiefling for example have no "level adjustment" but have several low level resistances and a once per day spell like ability. The Dark Stalker's at will abilities are good so I can understand a higher adjustment, anyone have any advice?

The Totem seems pretty awesome, the transformations are badass and handy. For Domains, check out the Advanced Players Guide (pg 87) for Subdomains and see if you have any that might fit (its not Core but at least its still Pathfinder) I would suggest Caves as one of them and Night for starters.
For feats its a tough call, Aspect of the Beast from the APG is a cool feat (but has no real prereq's) but I think the Spider Step feat from APG is the one, get it without needing the prereq's and the speed should be as a 6th level monk (30ft).

Once again nice work, glad to have it in my game!
