First of all I am going to start with any faction missions that may be assigned. Grand Lodge:
Two days ago, before making ready to meet the Venture Captain in the Grand Lodge for a briefing, a note came to your residence in Absalom. It carried the seal of the Grand Lodge, and carried an air of importance about it from the styling of the letters and the haste of the messenger.
Greetings fellow Pathfinder, as you are well aware, recent events on the Isle of Yune has called the attention of the Society. We have always seen you as a trustworthy and loyal pathfinder and as such it is time for you to get rewarded with a task befitting your due. We are interested in certain knowledge that we believe is beneath the Isle. The knowledge is not powerfully important by itself but could help with dealings closer to home. With watchful eyes in Absalom we deem it unwise to speak of the task further in this letter. We can however direct you to the Master of the Town of Luthgrad, who we have long been in contact with as his son was a previous member of the Society. He should be able to fill you in further upon the knowledge we are searching for. (This is delivered to Askar and Einor) Scarzni:
On your way here you were stopped by a small runt of a messenger buy, showing the obvious signs of living on the street for a living. He slips you a small note as he passes by you, obviously trying to hide it from the sight of those nearby.
Fellow Scarzni, I am glad you have managed to get an invitation to that god forsaken island. Although it produces nothing but a nasty supply of fish the island of Yune has been a pain in our side for years. With close proximity to our trade lines, and an independent Merchant group in control of the island, boats from Yune manage to navigate past our trading ports and dodged any dealing we could have had with them. The Merchant group in control, known as the Wooden Council, must be made to see our side of the matter. Grastun Oviring, one of the Wooden Council Members in Luthgrad has been convinced to our side of the matter, however the other 3 merchants still require some persuading to be done. Meet with Grastun, and find a way to extend our trading rights. Now, this is not all that needs to be done. While the bumbling Grand Lodge goes in searching for ancient artifacts I need you to give me a branch of both the Stone and Singing tree, I will submit more letters upon this in the future. Guaril Karela (This is delivered to Tommar and Oberst) Andoran: Just a few days after being assigned to travel to Yune, a message will arrive at your residence.
Hail Compatriot, as you are aware, it is a week or so until your ship travels to Yune. Adoran agents have never taken any interest in the island but as you are there we can put you to good use. I was contacted about a month ago by the Head Priestess of Erastil, at Olnslav. While usually not interested in individual temples problems, she assured me that it was of the utmost importance. It appears as though, she believes that something darker than what the Thane believes is threatening Olnslav. I agreed to help her on the condition that good word was put in with the faith of Erastil, something our people could always use. Of course, what you achieve on the island is entirely up to you, I will try to keep in contact. Major Maldris (This is delivered to Tazennin)
The Isle of Yune Character Creation:
- 20 point buy - 2 traits, but they cannot be from the same trait list - All Core Pathfinder Races, for the most part I would prefer to not have any non core, but if your character requires that race or it would be very role-playable, then exceptions will be made - As for book use, I will run anything from Core, Advanced Players, and any non-Eastern information from Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat - Looking for 4-6 PC’s I will request that any players post at least once a day. If not, then no action will be done or I will try to take action for you, in the case of combat that most often means a basic attack. If you are unable to post for 3 consecutive days then I will try to find a replacement for you. Of course, if you give notice, that rule will be ignored.
About Myself:
For almost as long as I can remember I have loved role-playing games, and have been Game Mastering for about 10 years now. I have played everything most systems from Gygax’s playtests to Pathfinder and each rendition reminds me how much I love the hobby. I have ran play by post campaigns before, but never on this site. I would enjoy the chance to DM for the community here. As for personal style, I have always loved the old school dungeon crawls, but never at the sake of the Role Playing itself. Idea behind the Game:
One of the reasons I have loved roleplaying is the freedom of exploring a world without following a linear story such as a book. Now, I have nothing against books or linear stories, however one of my greatest joys has been first understanding the problems, and then going after the one that your group of friends thinks it would be the most fun to go after. Of course in person if your party suddenly decides to drop the planned plot the DM is left to see how good their impromptu stories can be. I feel as though a pbp version of an open world would go even better than in person, as the problem of not having time to plan is solved by allowing me to spend an hour on each post even if they do go out of my plans. In order to test the completely open world idea, I wanted to try it out on a smaller scale. As such, I plan to put the party on a small island, with a few small cities on it. This would limit the open world exploration a small amount, turning it instead to open island exploration. I believe the test would be a good one though. The island would be big enough to have multiple problems, but yet small enough for the party to feel as though given enough time it could try to solve a lot of it. Now, I am also a fan of each character feeling they have an independant goal. The mix of party and personal goals, in my opinion, always made the game more interesting and exciting. As such I am going to try to introduce the faction missions, as in the Pathfinder Society (and at that point might as well bring along the whole Society backstory), so that each player can have an individual mission in an open island. The idea of using the Society backstory would solve the problems of how the group met and would at least give the party a starting direction for the world.
