Kassen Battle Maps

Apologies. Things happened. I haven't been on lately and I've misplaced my notes on the next bit. Long weekend, though, so the plan is to have a post up this upcoming monday.

Kassen Battle Maps

Woo! Thank you all for sticking around. :)

Kassen Battle Maps

I can I get a sound-off from everyone? I think I'm getting settled pretty well in my new job and that I can get this back up and running again. I've been mulling over what to do, and I think I have a fun dungeon planned. It'll be a bit before I am ready, so the plan is to get the ball rolling again on the 17th.

Thank you all for your patience. I know that this has not been the best run game, but I am grateful to all of you for sticking it out and putting up with my flakiness. It has been a joy and a pleasure to play with all of you, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out as we finish up this goblin war.

2 people marked this as a favorite.
Kassen Battle Maps

Hey all, I know this game has stalled, and that it's my fault. I think part of it was burnout due to stress (work-related and game-related), but a lot of it was wanting to not just keep doing the same thing over and over. I've been reading up a bit on dungeon design and I have some ideas, but I haven't been able to sit down and focus on them because I have been focusing on starting my new job this Thursday.

New tires, new suit, off-boarding, finding out I need like a dozen signatures before I can call it quits from the university that's technically my employer (long story) and trying to leave on good terms with my coworkers, even if I don't think they really ever saw me as part of the team and I am happy to be leaving this job.

Long story short, I've been busy, but I hope to come back to this game soon. Please forgive me for the unscheduled and longer than expected pause. I don't have a date, yet, but I will as soon as I get a feel for how this new job will go.

Kassen Battle Maps

Oof. That reminds me of the time I woke up and panicked because I thought I was late to my first class in college. Turns out, it wasn't until the next day.

Kassen Battle Maps

Good luck. Hope things go well.

Kassen Battle Maps

We will be moving on. I'm just not up to making that post tonight.

Kassen Battle Maps

Erigga harvests four wolf pelts worth 40 gold pieces in total.

"And our best fighter, it seems." Emerald looks around before motioning for Grobradon to lean close.

"It's always good to know one's mate can take care of themself," she whispers in his ear.

Kassen Battle Maps

"Do you think they came from a camp," Emerald asks. "They were following us it seems."

Kassen Battle Maps

Emerald looks around to make sure that no more enemies are coming their way, but it seems that, for the moment, the Heroes of Kassen are safe.

Moon:

You skin the winter wolf and now have a rare pelt worth at least 500GP, possibly more to the right buyer.

Kassen Battle Maps

I'm going to call it. The one conscious combatant has 9 HP left.

In a swift and brutal display of prowess, the Heroes of Kassen dispatch the party that was tailing them.

Loot will be posted tonight.

Kassen Battle Maps

No need to worry about that. The wolf only had 1 HP.

Betzolte finishes the wolf that Emerald had sorely wounded off.

Emerald begins to sing, bolstering the heroes' spirits, as most of the hunting pack goes down to Betzoltes's spell. Erigga kills the wolf facing her with one blow. Grobradon and Maidie land solid hits on the only goblin still on its feet, and Moon and Histya nearly fell the worg before it has time to react. Emerald steps out and sinks an arrow deep into the only wolf not affected by Betzolte's spell, nearly killing it when it snaps at the dwarven wizard. The other wolf attacking Erigga and the goblin attack Grobradon are equally ineffectual.

The worg, seeing how this fight is going, turns to flee, doing it's futile best to avoid the ranger's deadly blade and her companion's painfully bite.

Moon and Histya get an AOO on the worg.
No one takes any damage, besides the baddies.
Inspire courage is up!
Party is up!

Kassen Battle Maps

Betz? You there?

Kassen Battle Maps

Still Got Betzolte, Erigga, and Maidie to go.

Kassen Battle Maps

It's been a few hours since the last fight.

Kassen Battle Maps

Seeing Erigga and Betzolte out in the middle of the path, the worg howls.

"Kill them," it bellows as the wolves and goblins snarl and growl. They get up to the two shorter than average warriors when...

Alrighty! You may proceed to the ambush fun-times part of this combat. Everyone can act!

Kassen Battle Maps

The worg and a couple of the goblins that had escaped have been joined by a couple more goblins and a few wolves.

Map's been updated. Just to be clear, Erigga and Betz are standing in the middle of the road instead of taking up an ambush position, correct? last chance to make any changes. Y'all get the jump on them when the fighting starts. If y'all are planning on hiding, please mark where you want the pack to be when you bring down the hammer.

Kassen Battle Maps

Sorry, not post tonight. Got slammed at work. Hoping to have what I need done tomorrow and then I can post them.

And Betz, that was from Wednesday! :D

Kassen Battle Maps

Erigga and Maidie, did your posts get eaten? Any questions?

Kassen Battle Maps

Apologies. No post tonight. Brain is mush.

Kassen Battle Maps

Map's up. Link is in my header. Put yourselves where you'd like to be. Goblin token marks where the party trailing y'all will be coming from.

Kassen Battle Maps

Seems like y'all want to set up an ambush. I'll get a map set up this weekend.

Kassen Battle Maps

Despite their caution, Maidie finds those stalking the Heroes of Kassen easily enough. She recognizes the worg and the handful of survivors from the earlier fight. A few more goblins and wolves have joined them, but it appears they are not eager to tangle with the party again.

Kassen Battle Maps

As the sun peaks, clouds gather and deepen the gloom of the wintry wood. The heroes walk along the bank of a creek that is still flowing, though the channel is beginning to choke with ice. The feeling of something watching from the shadows grows as midday passes into afternoon. You are being followed, but from a distance.

Kassen Battle Maps

Thanks to Moon's keen senses and Grobradon's wisdom, the Heroes of Kassen avoid breaking through the ice and falling into the chilling water beneath. An hour passes before the path leads out of the gully and onto less treacherous ground.

More coming. Just don't have time to do a longer write up.

Kassen Battle Maps

Moon, Betz, do you want to roll?

Kassen Battle Maps

Welp. I guess y'all got the low rolls out of the way.

As the heroes continue towards the Bloodmoon camp, they follow a winding path into a gully. The bottom is covered in deep snow and rather flat. While the going is slow, the pace is better than trying to climb out of the gully and find a path that links up with the one your are following.

Survival or Knowledge(Geography) DC 20:

The bottom of the gully is filled with a frozen over stream

Perception DC 25:

You hear a muffled cracking sound as you walk along the bottom of the gully

Kassen Battle Maps

We are. I'm just being slow. Sorry about that.

Kassen Battle Maps

Erigga?

Kassen Battle Maps

In the interest of keeping things going, we'll just say that y'all were able to get back to full HP. Let's say the wand y'all got from Prince Kernan has 35 charges left on it after that.

Wounds mended and breath caught, the Heroes of Kassen resume their march on the Bloodmoon camp.

Could all of you roll me a d20, please.

Cragg-el and his brothers give chase, but after a little while, it becomes clear that they are far less successful than they had hoped. Before they return to the elemental plane of earth, Maidie can feel their frustration at having failed to hunt down more than one of the fleeing pack.

I forget, do y'all have a wand? Emerald can cast 2 CMW and 5 CLW.

Cragg-el and Maidie sorely wound the wicked winter wolf, causing it to howl in agony. The goblin to the south screams as its ribs are shattered and it crumples into the snow as rage, the will to fight, and consciousness leave it. Meanwhile, one of the transformed goblin werewolves yowls as the third elemental slams into it.

Meanwhile, Erigga, rips out the throat of one of the worgs.

Betztole's attack does little to affect the worg, other than fanning it with a warm breeze. Meaanwhile, Histya's best efforts fail to get through the wily winter wolf's hide, but Moon's blade drinks deeply of it's blood.

Sensing how dangerous the ranger and the druid, are, the winter wolf steps back and blasts both with it's wintry breath. It then howls, heralding the charge of the rest of the pack. Moon, Histya, and Grob take 17 cold damage, Reflex DC 17 for half

The elemental to the south clobbers one of the wolves as it leaps away to flank Erigga with the worg, Despite the mighty blow, the wolf still has some fight and nips at the halfling, failing to do more than act as an ineffectual distraction. The worg tries to avenge its hurts, but fails to do more than annoy the halfling.

The other wolf fails to do more than mar the leather of Betzolte's boots, but that only allows the enraged goblin a chance to land a solid blow.

Betzolte takes 9 points of slashing damage

The other wolves run in and attack Moon, Grob, and Emerald, most of their bites fail to find purchase, but one wolf does get a solid hold on Emerald's leg and pulls her to the ground.

Emerald takes 4 points of damage to put her at 11/28 HP. Emerald is now prone

The goblin werewolf to the north withdraws from melee with the elementals, wanting to get at prey with more flesh and blood.

Emerald stands, 5-foots back, and turns invisible.

To the west, one of the wolves breaks free and is able to catch up with its fellows as they get out of the area of Grob's spell. The elemental to the north misses as it tries to clobber the wolf that runs by it to join up with its leader. The southern elemental proves a better fighter as it shatters the ribcage of the wolf it had already clobbered when it tries to join the other two nipping rather ineffectually at Betzolte's legs.

Then the wolves get within reach of the western elemental. Two loud, pained yelps ring out as literal rock-hard fists slam into the pair that came into range on their way to join up on the far shore of the river.

Meanwhile, the goblins and worgs move in, the goblin to the south managing to get in close to Betzolte and swing its axe at her with both hands, though it fails to even bruise the dwarven wizard. Much more deadly and effective is the winter wolf's breath that washes over Moon, Emerald, and Histya after it pushes past Grob.

Emerald Reflex DC 17: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Woooo, talking about cutting it close!

Emerald's song falters as the frigid air tries to freeze her lungs, but she manages to avoid the worst of it, if only barely.

Emerald takes 13 points of damage to put her at 15/28 HP.

Deciding that the ice breathing wolf is the biggest threat, she moves to put some distance between herself and Moon to keep the wolf from having a bunched up target again. As she does so, she draws and takes aim.

Emerald Longbow vs. Winter Wolf: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Unfortunately, her arrow skates off the beast's fur and flies off into the forest.

Grob, you get an attack of opportunity. I've already rolled for the Elementals, Maidie. Sorry.

Round 1 (Continued)
The winter wolf howls, signaling its pack to attack, but Maidie's elemental allies are quicker off the mark. Two of them move to strike at a wolf each, but while they do hurt the wolves, they fail to put them down. The four goblins snarl and shout as their muscles thicken and a red, feral glow shines in their eyes, though the two to the north have their fires dimmed by Maidie's spell. The sickening crack of bone and snap of tendon joins the growing cacophony as fur grows on their bodies and their faces begin to lengthen. Two of the goblins turn into half-goblin half-wolf monsters while the other two scream in agony as their transformation fails.

The two goblins to the north try to shake the dust from their eyes, one managing to do so, while the other two goblins pull out strange javelins and hurl them at the elementals. The one aimed at the western elemental sails over its craggy head while the other, aimed at the southern elemental, bounces off with too little force to do anything.

Purple has shaken off the effects of the Glitterdust spell.
Purple and Green are now in hybrid form.

Blinded Duration: 5/5 Rounds left

Goblins and wolves howl in anger and fear as they are blinded by Maidie's spell. The winter wolf snarls and shakes it's head before fixing the tiny fairy wizard with a hateful glower.

Alrighty, only the big boy managed to make the save, everyone else is blinded for the next 5 rounds. Maidie, if you would be so kind as to have your elemental army wreck shop?

Round 1

The Heroes of Kassen are not kept waiting long after they have done what they can to prepare themselves. Over a dozen wolves, three of them looking particularly large and vicious, and four howling goblins come charging down the paths. As they spot you, the large wolf to the north howls and brings the pack to a halt.

"Khalakakan told me there would be good hunting and fine sport," the large, white wolf growls something akin to a chuckle from it's fang and ice lined maw. "I see that I shall not be disappointed, little heroes."

The two other large wolves and the goblins snicker and laugh.

"Oh look, they have a little pixie with them. I've been craving some fey blood, so I guess she'll do," the large wolf on the western trail cackles as it fixes Maidie with a predatory grin.

"Too little meat, brother mine," the third large wolf, the one approaching form the south, says. "Look at the male of the pack. He has some meat on him. A tough meal to be sure, but filling."

The goblins giggle as they ready their axes and wolves growl and snarl, hungry for the feast to come.

Kassen Battle Maps

Hola!

Wanted to give y'all a heads up that I'll be kicking the game and combat off tomorrow. Please make sure that you're where you want to be for round 1. Also, let me know if y'all have any questions about the map.

Kassen Battle Maps

Hey all.

First off, apologies for how slow things have gotten, and it's not going to get better. Between having the flu and recovering from that I wasn't able to post much last week, and I won't be able to post at all over the nest two weeks at least due to work and Christmas stuff.

Second, given that this is the case, I'm officially putting this game on hiatus until January 5th. That will hopefully give me some time to recharge so we can hit the ground running.

Again, apologies for the delay and the recent slowness.

Done! Shouldn't need to do that if you have an account.

Or it might be a whole week. Yeesh. I am sorry folks.
New map is up!

It soon becomes clear to Moon that they will need to find and prepare a battlefield soon. Howls can be heard in the distance as the would be hunters seek to make the Heroes of Kassen the hunted. As swiftly as the ranger is able, she finds what looks like a good enough spot, a place where two game trails merge by a frozen stream as it wends its way through a gully.

The howls are closer now, maybe a minute away at best.

Place yourselves where you want to be when the fighting starts. I'll let y'all have two rounds to cast spells.

"Prince Kernan didn't gift me one, no," Emerald says, she tries to put on a brave face, but it's clear that she's frightened by the potential dangers of this coming fight.

I'll try to have a map up tomorrow or Wednesday, but it might be this weekend before I manage it.

Why is the Valeros card different than the free download sheet? Which one do I use?
