There are alot of fiddly bits here... like starship combat, bunch of numbers rolled early that affect things later in the same round... She half-heartedly thanks the group for their assistance, but is clearly disappointed. It goes on to state that in the aftermath of the Scoured Stars incident, the Society needs skilled agents more than ever, and that it sees potential in the members of your group as they start their new careers as Starfinder field agents. Round 2 Laboni is in last place as the race continues... Zvei again targets Ratrod... he scores a direct hit. Once again, the energy from the shot seems to crackle and spread over the ship... Shamshir watches intently at the interaction with Ratrods ship, he sees it has some device that takes the energy from the blast and reroutes it to his controls... the kinetic weapon, and oddly the other laser blast fired earlier, did not have the same effect. Shamshir experimentally fires with his energy weapon at Ratrod... another hit! The energy seems to try to spread over the ship, but then blows off some ship. The race uses a modified version of the vehicle chase rules, beginning on page 282
The game rounds go as follows - Phase One: All racers may fire their
Phase Two: Once all the weapons have been fired and the relevant Piloting penalties have been applied to each driver, each racer must attempt a DC 16 Piloting check, modified by the
The Track: The racing circuit is 3,000 feet long, and whoever crosses the finish line first is the winner. If multiple vehicles cross the finish line on the same round, whoever is farther across is the winner; if multiple vehicles tie for this distance, the race is a tie Your Junk Racer - Final Bonuses
BASIC JUNKRACER - Above bonuses already applied

The Race Begins!
Determine who is manning each gun, choose a target, and fire!
Blake learns that, Nyzin is a reasonable pilot (+4) and her junker is known for bursts of speed (+20ft)... at the cost of becoming much easier to hit due to losing maneuverability (lasts for one round when activated.) Blake finds and installs some stabilizers and a rad thruster taken off an old police chaser. (piloting, and speed)... Phantom finds some targeting servos and upgrades both weapons. Total Upgrades so far. Install a basic Kinetic Weapon, Upgraded for additional -2 piloting to opponent
Give me four twitch roles....
Blake didn't find anything useful, but was able to get some info on one of the racers... on Lemgem, Nyizin, Orsis, Ratrod, and Velocity... pick who you want to know about... you can spend your entire action to learn about all of them at once. Blake has three more rounds... Shamshir spends all his time working on the racer... he's able to Install a basic Kinetic Weapon
Zvei was unable to sneak in, "HEY, what are you doing down here! Get out!", seeing them bolster the gate bouncers a little, Zvei thinks the next try may be more difficult. Zvei then works on the ship and improves Shamshir's weapons providing a +1 to hit. Someone want to give four rounds of rolls for Twitch? Phantom also tries to sneak in and is unsuccessful. The group feels as if getting caught again would be frowned upon! [ooc]Phantom has three more rounds of actions. Phantom-6 - 3 more actions
"Oh... no, no, no... you don't need to fly... I will, But some assistance in prepping would be wonderful... " Here's the deal... Each PC can take four actions before the race, which they may use to improve Laboni’s vehicle or engage with the other racers (detailed below). Improve Laboni’s Junkracer: PCs can spend an action to attempt a Computers, Engineering, Perception, or Physical Science check to find parts in the scrapyard and install them in Laboni’s racer. The GM should remind players struggling with the checks that PCs can use the aid another action to assist each other’s rolls. Weapons installed on the vehicle do not cause damage, but instead impose penalties to the target’s Piloting rolls for 1 round on a successful hit. Every successful check allows the PCs to pick one improvement from the list below to apply to the vehicle’s statistics; these bonuses are cumulative. The vehicle’s base speed increases by 5 feet.
Investigating the Enemy: PCs can scout out their opponents with a Sense Motive check, or examine their opponents’ vehicles with an Engineering check. A PC can do this as part of making a prerace improvement skill check—the PC can take breaks during the improvement attempt and casually investigate one of the other racers. Otherwise, it costs a PC one of his prerace actions to converse with or examine all members of the competition. This check does not grant exact knowledge of an opponent’s statistics, but the GM can provide the PCs an idea of a driver’s skill or the associated vehicle’s strengths and weaknesses. On a successful check, the PC can ask one pertinent question about the pilot’s skill or about the vehicle the pilot is driving (or receives similar relevant information, if a player is unsure what he or she should be asking about). Sabotage: PCs can attempt to sabotage the other vehicles, but they must dodge the eyes of everyone in the ramshackle stadium by spending a prerace action and attempting at a Stealth check. Failing this check raises the DC of future Stealth checks to sabotage vehicles. A PC who succeeds at this check can then attempt an Engineering check on one of the opposing vehicles to either reduce the vehicle’s speed by 10 feet or to impose a –4 penalty on one of the vehicle’s modifiers. If the PC is caught cheating in this manner, the offending PC is tossed out of the engine pit (no more turns). If the PCs are caught cheating again, it is grounds for the immediate disqualification of the entire team. Socializing: PCs may also take this time to speak to the other pilots. During their prerace actions, they can forgo making an Engineering or Sense Motive check to examine and socialize with their opponents. The junkers are busy with their own preparations and do not have much time to talk. The GM should try to limit conversation to keep the game moving at a reasonable pace. Below is a listing of all the racers and their statistics, descriptions, and pertinent information for PCs attempting social skill checks with this action type. ------ Laboni, to her credit, is a skilled mechanic and has worked hard to pull together a decent racer from the piles of junk in Botscrap. Unfortunately, despite her heroic efforts, Laboni’s machine is not a match for vehicles that have been tested and improved over the course of multiple junkraces. She is not a pilot and has no experience with weaponry. If Laboni is going to have a chance, the PCs must help improve her vehicle. The other racers... There are five other pilots in the competition: Lemgem, Nyizin, Orsis, Ratrod, and Velocity. Each of you get four actions, since success or failure at upgrading the racer may dictate whether you want to focus more on that or other strategies, we'll do one round at a time.... You may all take one action Phantom-6
Ratrod’s racing circuit is a hollowed-out section of a mountain of spare parts in Botscrap, the track specifically sanctioned by the ysoki-dominated Salvage Union that controls most of the yards. When the you arrive at the competitors’ entrance, a small robot informs you of the basic rules of the race: racers and their pit crews are to build and improve their vehicles from the available scrap around the racetrack. Vehicles built at previous junkraces can return. Racers can fire upon other competitors during the race, but firing into the audience is grounds for immediate disqualification; racer weapons must be nonlethal and may affect only opponents’ vehicles. Laboni, the female human mechanic, is easy to find in the crowd due to her paisley clothes and bright white lab coat. She is in her late teens and sheepish about the whole debacle—in truth, she was merely aping the opinions of her seniors in the field and got carried away. Laboni is incredibly grateful to the you for showing up to support her, as she knows she cannot win the race on her own. She does not want to apologize to Ratrod until she has won and saved face. You can act/ask questions etc to any part above
When the groups gives the album to Historia-7, she gives them all a long, unreadable stare before calmly stating she will enter it into the archives. Zigvigix congratulates the group on the successful extermination the "Feather Stalker." Zigvigix is satisfied... but when they hear of your success giving the music album to Historia-7, the shirren praises the group and commends them for their strong team spirit. Zigvigix presents the you with a set of basic iridishell armor, a pair of incendiary grenades I, and 400 credits. They apologize for the lack of credits they can offer but excitedly warn the group, “Have fun with the grenades, but don’t blow yourselves up—I like you!” ______________ The Acquisitives’ leader, Radaszam “The Dealmaker”, manages the deployment of the Acquisitives and his personal mercenary outfit, the Obsidian Spiders. He keeps a public-facing office for this purpose in the Nyori Palisades, a luxurious neighborhood located in Absalom Station’s transparent central dome. The group heads to the offices. The plain white doors of the office slide open to reveal a stark, dimly lit room. The chamber is bleak and expressionless in its emptiness—no vanities line its smooth black walls, and no signs of use mar its smooth black furniture. The only occupants of the suite are a bug-eyed tadpole wriggling in a glowing blue aquarium and a reptilian vesk seated behind an onyx desk. The vesk gestures to a number of chairs in front of him, his features sharply illuminated by the light of his desk’s green holoscreen. “The new graduates,” he greets, in a low and pleasant voice. “Good day. I am Radaszam, though since you are here, I should hope you already knew." “I trust you are aware of our Society’s traditions, so I will cut to the point. I have a minor situation that needs resolution. One of our members, a human named Laboni, had a rather public altercation with a junk scavenger from the Spike. You might be more familiar with the scavenger than I, actually; he is a ysoki who fancifully calls himself Ratrod. I am told he runs a popular racing competition that has, hmm, several hundreds of thousands of viewers on the station’s infosphere. For some reason, Laboni felt the need to tell him that any ‘real’ mechanic could easily beat the garbage that Ratrod and his associates slap together. Now that Ratrod has issued an infosphere-wide demand that she race him and prove it, Laboni doubts she can back that claim up." “Embarrassing, isn’t it? Not really the sort of troublemaker that suits our Society. Perhaps she would be better suited to the bottom of a trash compactor... Well, we cannot afford to throw her out, not after so many Starfinders were lost in the Scoured Stars. Besides, we can’t let people think we are so weak that we can’t control our own members, or that we cannot stand up to a scrapyard junker. No, I would like you to assist Laboni in winning this race. Show our detractors that even the least of our Society is not someone to be trifled with.” Radaszam gives the group directions to the race’s location in Botscrap and hands them badges marking the them as Laboni’s official pit crew. He suggests the they do not delay, as they need as much time as they can to help with the race.
The line was very long... but no-one is fatigued (DC 12)... Shamshir picks up the album intended as a gift for Historia-7. And then picks up a second album. Blake, a Zvei also snag a copy of "Star Sugar Heart love!!!" (50 Credits for each purchase after Historia-7's which Zigvigix covered.) The crowd is very exuberant and eager to see the album in your hands, slapping high fives and low-whatevers... Everyone sneaks through safely, but Phantom who is jostled around, falls, and takes bludgeoning damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 from getting stepped on and banged around in the mayhem.
It looks as if the line is well monitored, if not by staff, by those that have been waiting in line already... some apparently camping out, some is Strawberry Machine Cake garb... ... the party stands in line... they're in pretty good spirits, quietly discussing their exciting recent adventures and success, but after the first hour of slow moving, spirts dwindle. And it goes down hill from there... SIX full hours later the group makes it to the check out line, an abundance of albums still available for purchase at 50 credits each.. Everyone...
With the pounding lyrics of Strawberry Machine Cake assaulting the group they approach the check out counter. Lyrics:

"Hey there fellow Cake Head! What will you have?!", And the clerk gestures to the new Strawberry Machine Cake album...
The party makes their way to Audio Blaster Emporium, and are dismayed to see a raucous line extending out of the store and around the block! It appears to be moving slowly. There is a large holographic sign proclaiming, "GET THE NEW STRAWBERRY MACHINE CAKE ALBUM HERE... GET YOUR EXCLUSIVE ALBUM NOW! NOT AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD!." Someone walking out of the store says... "HAIRY BALLS YES! This is worth the six hour wait!!!"
Blake, still stealthy, but this time also hitting the beast! It staggers, but remains up! Phantom's round takes the creature down. It slumps to the floor in a feathery pile. Station security must have been watching as shortly after the Feather Stalker (as you later learn it's called) security moves into the warehouse to start removing cargo and freeing up space for the Exo-Guardians.
Zvie's laser leaves a nice little burn mark... and the sherikens are doing a number on the beast as another lodges in it's vitals. Blake is well concealed, but misses again! Phantom blows open another crate... some medical supplies fall out the damaged crate. There's no info about twitch in his profile really and the drone is melees, so I'll keep him out of combat.
The beast rushes Shamshir and takes a feathery swing!
The feathery appendage brushes his face... making him want to sneeze... scrunching his nose he gets over it. Bold is up!

Round 3
The warehouse erupts into commotion as everyone moves in to attack Shamshir moves forward and with blinding motion whirls a throwing star at the beast, it lodges deep into its main meaty-part, the torso holding the quivering feathers. Zvei's shot seems true, but then it’s clear that the round passed right through the feathery appendages without causing any damage. Blake's laser blast puts a hole in a nearby crate. Phanton’s shot is high as well. Can someone give me an action for Twitch Round 1
Round2
The party can hear the creature scuttling about, then those with line-of-site see a large creature climb over the edge of the pit... going for phantom. When Phantom is not immediately evident, it turns, seeing Twitch... and releases another feather projectile. attack KAC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Sorry, phantom, I see now you didn't say you hopped on the box, but pretty much the same thing... I'll let you hop off without a roll if you wish
The holo recordings show a large black-and-white creature, a crinoid, made up of long feathery appendages and little else. Shamshir remembers that Feather Stalkers, large aberrations, have melee and ranged attacks, A feather stalker can release a piercing feather at a single foe as a ranged attack targeting. Different feather stalkers have some different special attacks, and while different for each feather stalker, he knows they have energy resistance. "Careful, these creatures see in the dark..." Going to the warehouse first. On the way, there are shops, restaurants and the like available should you need to purchase anything. Once you are ready, station security allows you through the force barrier set up around the perimeter of the warehouse. The doors to the warehouse were forced open and no longer lock. The warehouse ceiling is 30 feet high, and a catwalk runs 15 feet above the floor. The crates and vehicle are approximately 5 feet tall, while the cylindrical containers and the crate-filled scaffolding are 10 feet tall. Climbing the crates and scaffolding requires a successful will require an Athletics check. A pit in the warehouse floor is 10 feet deep. The scattered junk on the floor creates an area of difficult terrain. The lights on the catwalk are not bright enough to illuminate the area, leaving the warehouse in dim light. The creature is nowhere to be seen. DM Stuff: 1d4 + 1d4 + 1d4 ⇒ (1) + (1) + (4) = 6
Looking at Shamshir, Zigvigix says, "Saddly I do believe that it will need to be killed. We believe the creature is a feather stalker, a predator far more unpleasant than its name implies. As far as the Stewards have been able to piece together, a two-bit crime lord illegally imported the creature, and the beast promptly ate him." Zigvigix pulls out a tablet, and shows some holo recordings of the incident taken off the station’s security cameras Life Science on the creature As for the album, "Romance... no, no... Historia-7 has seemed down after losing her mentor in the Scoured Stars. We hope the sugar-pop music can cheer up the android" Zigvigix adds that the band’s music always makes them feel better. They go on to gush about favorite songs, expressing regret they cannot hear the newest releases, as the shirren finds it incredibly difficult to stand in the long lines.
Blake is correct, and you make your way back to Absalom station. The Exo-Guardians do not currently have a headquarters on Absalom Station, but their leader, Zigvigix resides in the poor but trendy neighborhood of Downlow. You know that Zigvigix is a long-standing member of the Exo-Guardians, Zigvigix suffered severe injuries prior to the Society’s expedition to the Scoured Stars, which prevented them from taking part. Garbage litters the ground around the district’s largest art park—a cement lot filled with undulating metal sculptures and covered in graffiti of grotesquely adorable creatures. The sounds of music and chatter drift over from the nearby clubs, chronically interrupted by the roar of the local gangsters’ engines. A heavily augmented host shirren is sitting on one of the park benches, eating a simple meal of cold grub-noodles and rice candy. Their antennae perk up at the tremor of approaching footsteps. “Welcome, new Starfinders! And congratulations!” the shirren’s voice telepathically projects. “My speech-name is Zigvigix, but feel free to call me Ziggy, if that would be easier for you. Have some rice candy to celebrate your graduation! Today is your big day! “When you are ready, I have two assignments I could use assistance with. The first is to help me secure a new headquarters on Absalom Station. I’ve been in talks with our station’s protectors, the Stewards, and they were kind enough to give us ownership of a warehouse here in Downlow for that purpose! The current owners no longer want it because a vicious alien took it over and kills anyone who goes inside. Once the alien is gone and the warehouse cargo has been returned to its owners, we can start installing desks and computers, so please go in and incinerate the creature!" “My second assignment...” Zigvigix twitches their tooth barbs for a moment and then holds out a credstick. “Please buy the brand-new Strawberry Machine Cake album, Star Sugar Heartlove!!!, which is out today, and give it to Historia-7 when you see her. She is the head of the Dataphiles, so you should meet her today! I wish to do it myself, but I... I have trouble standing for long periods of time. Thank you very much!”
Contacting Fitch, he's startled to hear about the creature, and dismayed by all the damage. He tells you to get back up to him on the bridge of the Master of Stars right away, and to bring the alien. --- "With that alien gone, my engineers can move back into E-Deck and fix the damage done... amazing how much trouble the little guy caused. I'll turn the alien over to a team of experts in hopes of learning more of the alien’s language and culture... interesting indeed!" The children are safe, and their father, Kieu Kein is very grateful, he rewards the group with a mk 1 ring of resistance. Fitch gives the the party a credstick with 400 credits on it. The Wayfinders’ leader thanks the group for their diligence, but is quick to get back to work on repairing the ship.
Phantom starts flipping dials and changing settings, but the task just seems too big... The creature looks expectantly at Blake... Culture, Life Science, or Mysticism check checks to communicate with it... does not say the same person can't go again... you need multiple success. Give me a description and a roll of one of those things. Give me multiple rolls if you wish.
As the party try to communicate with the creature, Phantom notices that, where the creature last was, on the monitor, that dials and and switches are all out of wack, like something was messing with them. Glancing around the room, anywhere there's something that could be messed with, IS messed with. He surmises that the creature has curiously been futzing with everything it could get its little claws on. It likely IS the cause of the problems on this floor. It tilts its head, gazing at Blake, clearly curious as to what he has to say... Culture, Life Science, or Mysticism check checks to communicate with it...

Background:
Born in Flint, Meera was the daughter of Cassir and Miranda Cheswik, he as professor of Logica Arcanum , her a professor of Planar Topology at the University of Flint. A brilliant pair, they expected nothing less that so for thier only daughter. Constant instruction , debate and questions were Meera's environment from the moment she could talk. Her intelligence was obvious , and her parents saw a great future for her in academia. However, both parents were lost during a experiment at the University. Meera went to live with her Uncle, Bernard, a gunsmith of quiet renown. Thoughts of academia soon disappeared once Meera was exposed to Bernard's craft and his clientel, soldiers and law enforcement. During numerous conersations with these individuals, especially the lawmen, Meera slowly came to the conclusion that such a career was for her. Seeing that she'd excel at whatever she chose to do, Bernard encouraged her to follow her dreams. Appearance:
Meera is tall and spare, but fit. She usually dresses to impress; polished boots, buckles, freshly pressed shirts etc. She has a penetrating gaze, disconcertingly so for some. Personality:
Meera is a seeker of truth. An early life exposed to constant debate and questioning, has led her to always look to the truth of things, often to her own detriment. |
