I think in that case we should probably just close the books on this one. I am really sorry, again, but I believe it is in everyone's best interest that I step down. I want to thank you all for staying when you did and for as long as you did and for making this a memorable story with great characters. I was looking forward to seeing Lucius' opinions come to the fore with Saoirse and Nebbin and I was hoping to have a neat little subplot with Thom's backstory and the half-succubus lady. And turook was going to be given a Faustian deal for power that would have come to the fore by the final battle. Thank you again and keep in touch, and feel free to hit me up for anything...I will respond as soon as I can.

In the interest of keeping everyone abreast of the situation... I approached Nebbin and just now Lucius to ask if either of them would take over the DM duties from me. I'm just unable to reliably be here with the baby, the new job, and my writing gigs. I really didn't want to do this, but I feel as though I am treating you all unfairly by making you suffer through the drudging pace. You've all made wonderful characters and have been far more wonderful as players than I deserve and I feel that any DM would be lucky to have you as players. I don't want to see this game fall apart because of me. Nebbin is already a little overextended with other games and real life to take over. I'll wait for Lucius but there is a new baby in real life there as well. If anyone else would like to toss their hat in, or would know anyone else that would, let me know and I'll try to make this as painless as possible. I'm so very sorry that I've failed you all like this but I hope that you can continue on with the story.

In the interest of keeping everyone in the loop... I approached Arc about taking over DM duties from me. I'm just not able to make this happen like you all deserve with your wonderful characters and it isn't fair to you all to have to drudge along like I've made you. Arc wasn't completely comfortable taking the reins at this time and is a little too busy as well to allow committing to it. So, would anyone want to take over or know someone that would? I really, really didn't want it to come to this but I just can't reliably be here with the baby, the new job, and the writing gigs I have.

Saoirse's words, and the blinding light from Radiance, cause the tieflings to cower. One by one, slowly at first, they drop their weapons until they all are unarmed. One steps forward and grunts in the common language "We were forced...by the sorcerer you killed." On the sorcerer's body you find: potion of cure moderate wounds, wand of dimension door (9 charges), amulet of natural armor +1, cloak of resistance +2, 125 gp

You are correct Arc, but the encounter itself is still only hard as opposed to deadly. I can think of a few tactics that will force the flying guy to be vulnerable to attacks... Paritosh mows down yet another ghoul. The second ghoul swipes at him. Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Its teeth and left hand miss, but the foul right hand connects with Partiosh's skin. Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 DC 13 Fort save or suffer paralysis for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds. The two ghouls near Bastion charge and swipe at him. Charging Claw Ghoul 1: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15
Both surrounding him, his armor proves too much for their claws. Will Save Nulkineth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Nulkineth hovers where he is, still pawing at his eyes. Everyone up again.

Yeah, you'd notice the tiefling (who has some wicked looking horns and hellish looking skin) who was not affected by the glitterdust. I looked back at my posts and realize I did NOT make that apparent so my apologies. I'll give ya'll a free round as recompense. Saoirse raises Radiance in a cruelly holy light, and brings it down swiftly on the tiefling at the edge of the chasm. Thom also brings his spear to bear on the same. The tiefling's smile fades instantly to a rictus of horror as Nebbin's hammer comes crashing down to finish him. I really, seriously, keep forgetting how much damage you all can do!! The rest of the tieflings stare slackjawed...

Nebbin's hammer fells the tiefling before it can even react to his presence. It should be able to take you 2 up at once, leaving Lucius and Turook. So 6 rounds total to get the 4 of you up. The tieflings at the lip of the canyon mill about and start to organize. Lucius flings another of his spells at them... Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 And they immediately begin to howl and paw at the infernal glittering dust surrounding them. ??? Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 A voice calls down, in Abyssal.
"Practitioner of the dark magics. They will not avail you here. I am master of the infernal forces. Give up now." The voice intones in a grating voice and a ball of fire lops down on top of where Lucius is standing. DC 17 Reflex save. Damage: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 4, 4, 5, 5, 3) = 32
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Sorry gang, lost track of days (for real). Paritosh and Bastion both strike down a foul ghoul. Two others lurch towards him while the rest position themselves. Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Nulkineth roars again and flies further up into the air.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Yes, you don't have to worry about being shot while climbing. No crossbows in the group and the way the cliff is laid out you'd have total concealment. Thom, yeah that would work. The cliff is about 40 feet. So 1 round to summon. How long does your summon last with the mythic point (does that affect it even?) Nebbin, with your ring and strength you don't even need the rope, but yes its knotted. Tiefling Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 The fireball splats into the archers on the cliffside causing havoc and killing a large chunk of the evil beings. 2 round reprieve from arrows while they recover from the fireball.

Thanks folks. It is seriously depressing when unemployed...first time since I was 13. If it weren't for the baby I'd probably have stayed in bed all day.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Arrows begin to rain down... Arrows x6 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Heh, didn't even need protection from evil [ooc]The ropes are still in place on the one side, and the tieflings wouldn't be able to get at you with bows straight down the cliff. You'd have cover. But, they now know you're there... rounds till ?: 1d4 ⇒ 3
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
So Arc brought up some good points, and after a little discussion I'm going with his thoughts. Nulkineth is only 30 ft in the air using a full-round action to fly up while blinded. If that changes anyone's action let me know and I'll accommodate. Will Save #2 vs. Glitterdust: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Ok, no longer blinded. Nulkineth ponders for a brief moment then points to some mossy green outgrowth on the ground. Suddenly, all sounds stop, an implosion of quietness permeates the air. Reflex to avoid Cassandra's spell: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 2 = 4 and blinded again! Group Beta PC's then the ghouls.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Got the job!! Hooray employed again! Nebbin's mighty hammer crashes down, the wild-eyed auroch pulling mightily, and the chain snaps in two. The beast continues its path down the dried riverbed, vocalizing its freedom. Lucius' magic succeeds as well, as the sound of bending and breaking metal accompanies the severing of the chains on his auroch and it taking off down the riverbed in the opposite direction. A shout from above brings the faces of 20 tieflings. A call in Abyssal orders the bringing of bows and arrows to the edge of the cliff wall. You've got another round of time to do what you want, then they start shooting.

Got the job! Hooray for employment! Group Alpha - Arc, Nulkineth
Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Nulkineth roars as the sparkling motes attack his sight. He spreads his bat-like wings and rockets upwards 60 feet, while spewing forth something in a profane sounding language.
"Ghouls! Defend me while I regain my sight!"
Suddenly, several feral shrieks come from all around the doorways in the courtyard. Group Beta - Cassandra, Paritosh, Bastion, Ghouls (6)
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
There don't appear to be any tieflings down in the gorge at the moment. The knotted ropes will definitely work. As you get close to the beasts, their pupils dilate and they snort in fear. They start to pull away from you until the chains are taut...

Travelling for an interview, please everyone roll init. Arc, you know that this creature is half demonic, a half-nabasu to be specific. You also know this particular one is dedicated to some demonic deity... Nulkineth Init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

The group climbs down the tower and is greeted by a handful of paladins when they reach the bottom. "We received your message about the towers. We sent five to each, a siege engineer and four soldiers to protect them should anything attempt to wrest control back." The small band of paladins head up the stairs. As you reach your army near the bridge, the scouts report that the bridge is guarded by feral-looking beasts chained to the bridge’s weakened supports and several tieflings on the watchtowers above, and furthermore that each support has been significantly weakened by structural damage. It might take a minute or two, but the beasts chained to the pillars could be driven to tear the bridge down. Aron nods and looks back at the tied Nurah, "That one has told me as much, and this report confirms it. She seems to be making strides to repent for her sins...she's also told me that these creatures, aurochs, and the tiefling army across the bridge should be led by a tiefling spellcaster of some strength named Barrid Isen. I leave it to you if we trust her word on that." So, the riverbed requires a DC 15 climb check to go up or down the embankments. Not a problem for ya'll...but the army will have a severe time trying to do that.

As Bastion opens the door, you are greeted with the sight of the gargoyle that fled and this creature... It looks up at you, eyes full of hatred, and says in the common tongue "You must be what this weak statue told me of. Surrender or become one of my ghouls." Finishing that sentence...he reaches out and grabs the gargoyle by the throat, flexes, and crushes the neck.

Sure I'll go the bridge, but quick question, do you want to try to send a message or something to Aron or one of the other NPCs to get army folk to man those towers? Or are you going to leave them empty until you get back to the army?

Nebbin and Saoirse manage to stun the gargoyle, and Lucius' magic sends it plummeting down to the ground 60 feet below, where it lands with a sickening thud. From the other watchtower you hear a cry and the shape of another gargoyle flies inwards towards Drezen.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Bastion leads the group forward as quietly as possible, he suddenly stops the group as he approaches a door in a surprisingly intact wall. Hazarding a guess, it looks like it could lead to a courtyard of some sort. He motions that he senses evil inside the doorway.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Yep, sorry Turook, this is a special ability of this particular mythic gargoyle. Only 1x per day and it seems rather frivolous to have used it on that paltry blow...but it needed SOMETHING to damage you all finally! The arrow from Turook sinks in to a child gargoyle, but does little real damage. Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Lucius' fireball bathes them in flames, but their flight path and stony skin protect them from the worst of it. The mother gargoyle looks around for a moment as Nebbin's wicked hammer fails to connect, and it starts to fly up... Anyone in melee range can AoO. I'm assuming Nebbin and Saoirse.
WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals
Yeah, I meant a literal shot...as in ranged :) Assuming noone does/can take a shot. The sounds of sudden battle die away and an eerie stillness surrounds the ruined temple yet again. A few minutes later, a sense of evil begins to oppress the senses... [ooc]Detects as very evil all around.[/ooc[

Paritosh, you can surge as often as you like, it's an immediate action. You can only surge up to your number of times per day though. You can all take a shot at it.

Nebbin's awesome power once again proves to be stronger than its target. The gargoyle that viciously attacked Saoirse plummets to the ground below, breaking apart on contact. The red-eyed mother gargoyle screams again and dives towards Nebbin, stony claws leading... Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Her left claw glowing angrily with a power not dissimilar to your own. The children gargoyles flee further from the carnage towards Drezen. 60 feet out now. Everyone may go.

Between Lucius's fireball, Nebbin's magnificent hammer, and Saoirse's dire wratch, the mother gargoyle is stunned momentarily. The children shriek. The poppa gargoyle swoops in on Saoirse, seemingly incensed by the light of Radiance, and attacks her. Claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Saoirse, you're AC is currently 26 right? Yeah group beta and then group alpha after Thom and Turook!

Saoirse's attack proves effective as she leaves behind a gash in the stony hide of the red-eyed mother gargoyle. The smaller gargoyles mill around for a moment when an angry cry from the father has them take flight...in towards Drezen. 30 ft. up and 30 ft. towards the citadel. The father gargoyle reaches the apex of the tower you are on, finally bringing himself level with you. Lucius, would you want to try to drop the kids with that or aim for the adults? You could probably catch the momma and the kids, or the momma and the poppa.

Poor Thom... Lucius' fireball drops in and detonates with a sudden intake and exhalation of hot air. Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Half
Three screeches, stony in sound, permeate the air. Two of the cries sound...younger. Three gargoyles, two of which look smaller than the third, rise up out of the illusory tower top.
