I have to create a couple lvl8 characters for some friends and I for a game at PaizoCon. I need level appropriate weapons for two lvl8 druids (halfling and dwarf) including a scimitar, sling and warhammer. What would be some weapon builds for increasing att/dmg for that lvl? The dwarf is themed for cold spells and the halfling is themed for fire spells. Ideally the scimitar would have fire damage and the warhammer cold.
Thought I could trade these all up until the con while I coordinated with other friends. Looks like trading is closed. I have 2 tickets for this event which looks like a blast. I will post them to the board later tonight or you can private message me your email so I can get them to you tonight. I won't have both tickets until around 6pm Friday when my daughter checks in.
Hi, we are excited to come back this year for PaizoCon. This time I bring more friends. Questions: 1) When does the lottery start? Even a general time-frame. Will an email be sent to let me know what to get ready? 2) There will be four of us trying to get a couple tables together - is the buddy system going to be used this year? Meaning, well there me a way to link tickets for registration? Thanks!
I've got two tween girls who want to play Pathfinder with their grandparents during ThxG. I was going to use the Pathfinder stock characters and run the four of them through a short 60-90 minute encounter. The hook is that they are at grandma and grandpas turkey farm. They do a good business with the local townfolk, but make most of their money when the court holds a feast, and on Thanksgiving they sell 40+ turkeys to the court for the annual feast where the poor and disabled and other folks in need are invited in for the feast. But the party wakes up at grandmas to hear there frantic grandpa tell of the disappearance of all the turkeys. I thought they'd have to do some sleuthing to find the tracks back to a lair. Where they find a young dragon with 40 turkeys stuffed into a bag of holding - she's taking them out one by one and feeding them to herself like you'd imagine an ancient roman nobleman eat a grape. Maybe they fight or rob or bargain with the dragon to return the turkeys. Any ideas to give it more flavor? (no pun intended)
I'm running a party that is: Druid -5
They are too far along and cannot be changed. But, I'm having a harder and harder time not killing them because they are weak on healing. I've given them all the cure light wounds they can carry through various loot, but I need some other ways to buff them without totally breaking their classes. Any ideas? Note: there might be something obvious but I am newish to Pathfinder (I played DnD for most of 70/80s, and then got into the game again via Pathfinder). Thanks.
Context: I introduced my 12 yr old daughter and her 3 school friends to "DnD" by running a small dungeon crawl for them. To my delight, all four of them caught the bug and I ended up running them up to level 6 over the course of 8 sessions. I wrote my own adventure path, taking parts and pieces from old DnD 1.0 modules as well as Pathfinder modules, and weaving my own story for the group. It's been a lot of fun, but also challenging because this groups of kids will not stay on any rails - I have to build the sandbox and with several plot points and let them weave through them in the order and style they wish. In our last adventure I had to throw them a way out so they wouldn't all die, and off the top of my head I had a group of Driders come come out of a side passage and team up with them to take out a small horde of undead. The session concluded with them heading off with the Driders to meet the local lord. They are 1-2 sessions max away from completing the Adventure Path (the end goal of closing a portal door). At this point I want to give them a memorable event as they close out the adventure. And I think I might have accidentally created the basis for that when I added in the Driders without much thought. Obviously, the Driders invitation to meet the lord cannot be with good intent. The party is already a bit suspicious but it was the end of the session and they lazily agreed to be escorted. (I thought they would run/escape). So . . . looking for ideas here - even seeds. I would like to sow paranoia or give them a tough choice that will have hard consequences either way. Maybe play the Driders against the local Drow. Maybe they have to make a choice between two really great choices. What would a great escape look like? They have to exit the mountain in a manner that allows them to reach a hidden valley (where they have an encounter that concludes the Adventure Path).
Myself, my 11yr old daughter, and her 11yr old friend are attending. I'm the one with the credit card so I will buy 3 passes. But then how do I set things up so that we can all join the same events? Can I give them each a ticket to their Paizo account? Will there be a way to add other accounts when you register for events? Thanks.
Hi, I have the AP subscription, but after reading about the next AP (and that it has a sci-fi element) I don't want to receive that AP. But I am interested in moving to another subscription (like maybe maps). Since 6/6 of Mummy's Mask is in my sidecart and already pre-ordered, can I cancel my AP sub and add another sub? Or do I need to wait until those ship? Does my question make sense? I'm trying to time the change in subscription to not interrupt Mummy's Mask, but not get the next AP. Thanks!
So in the wake of PaizoCon my daughter and some of her friends which to keep playing PFS characters. Some questions. 1) The group is 4-5. Two of them have PFS IDs, the others don't. If everyone has a legal character, does everyone have to have a PFS ID? I ask because in some cases I will have to have the parent create and account for them (age range is 11-15). 2) I wanted to start them on Mummy's Mask. I assume I can play them through the whole AP, but do I only award them XP and loot for the PFS approved sections? In other words, I want to play them through the whole AP, can that work? 3) I'm still having trouble understanding how loot is dealt with after the session. Is there a good tutorial for this? 3.1) I think I understand it - all loot is available to all players via their chronicle sheet, and can be purchased if as per buying rules. But during PaizoCon, in our sessions we collected some basic loot that is not on the Chronicle, like a potion of cure light wounds. Does this mean it is NOT available after the session? Or was this just a clerical error? 3.2) Our DM mentioned something about selling back items. It was loud and I didn't catch his meaning. Can players sell the items on the Chronicle sheet? Again, before I start DMing PFS I really want to understand how loot is dealt with. Thanks!
I'm an original red box player who made it all the way to DnD 4e before switching to Pathfinder. I've been pretty happy since I switched and don't see any reason to move over to DnD 5e, but there is one thing I think Wizards nailed with 5e in terms of capturing the spirit of our favorite pencil and paper game. The character sheets. And coincidentally, as I induct my daughter and her friends into the world of fantasy RPGs via Pathfinder, they have consistently had trouble with the character sheets. Areas to improve (my opinion of course): 1 - Be consistent with which side holds the mod. It's seems random not just on the "advanced" character sheet, but also between the Beginner Box and advanced sheets. The mods should be prominent - larger and/or at the end of a stat block (left or right). 2 - Call out the abilities! 5e puts the mods in these large shield type boxes, with the base stat smaller. It looks cool, feels like a fantasy RPG and is easy to see stats across the table as well as find them quickly (remember, not everyone has placed this game for 20 years). 3 - UX/design! This is the thing that represents our characters in game and out of game. Have some fun with it - add design to represents different sections - stats, skills, saves, combat . . . 4 - Don't fork the beginner and advanced character sheets. Take some direction from the old school and 5e sheets to make the beginner sheet fun and streamlined, and have that sheet also serve as the "base" sheet for advanced play. Advanced play would introduce a second sheet that shows the advanced stat breakdown. It's a tough experience taking beginners from one format to another - but what you're really trying to accomplish is adding more to what they already have. I was considering designing sheets for my group but also wanted to give some feedback and perhaps see if someone has already created what I'm looking for. [Great job at PaizonCon - had a blast and looking forward to an extra day next year!]
I'm in need of an NPC that will be an agent of Queen Abrogail II, tasked with organizing and leading a small army of Kobolds in the Darkmoon Vale region. Some of the Kobolds will ride Slurks, and there will be a group of Werewolves under this NPCs control. Bonus if this NPC has ties to Fey, is female, and an ex-druid. I'm looking for a race or creature to start with as a base. All ideas welcome. Thanks!
I am converting an old campaign I wrote over to Pathfinder and need a location suitable for the following: + Frontier area with scattered villages
The main plot point is that <insert villian> is organizing bands of <insert monsters> to raid the frontier area in an attempt to <insert diabolical plan>. I would like this take place in an existing part of the Pathfinder world and a major plus would be a campaign setting book to help flush out the environment. Thanks!
Years ago I found an artist to make an illustration of several characters from a climactic moment in one of our games. I am trying to find an artist to do another illustration or painting depicting a moment from in game. Any advice on where to shop for fantasy artists? I used Elance the last time. Thanks.
Reading the PFS guide I am a bit confused on what magic items you can start with. Questions: 1) Assuming I have the gold, and fit the class requirements, I can buy scrolls and potions for 0-1 level spells. Correct? 2) Assuming I have the gold, can I buy say, 5 scrolls for a single lvl 1 spell? 3) Assuming yes to number 2 above, can I use those scrolls one after the other, each round? Thanks!
I've never had an issues with Druids of medium to small size riding animal companions (like wolves and big cats). For organized play, specifically PFS at PaizoCon, is there anything I should be aware of regarding riding of animal companions? We've been using the Animal Handler skill to improve riding ability for DC checks on riding animal companions in situations that would be extra-ordinary.
I am converting my families characters over to PFS rules and format. I've completed all the steps but two of us have animal companions and I'm not clear on how to write them up. For example, do I just use the character sheet and fill in the relevant stats? Are there any PFS rules for animal companions that divert from the core rulebook? Thanks!
I ended up getting placement into Black Fang for myself, but could not get my daughter in because kids can't buddy in the lottery. In the open events there are no beginner box games and I'd like to request adding 1 or 2. Seems like there is demand. If not, I'll be trading my Black Fang ticket later. If anyone has any ideas how a trade might help me let me know. Thanks.
OK so I could not use the lottery because my daughter has a kids ticket. So here I am ready to sign up for events, and just realized that buddies don't work for regular events. So now . . . how do I sign us both up? I already transferred the ticket to her and made her a buddy (for the lottery, which didn't work because she has a kid's ticket).
I bought tickets for myself and my daughter. We can't use the buddy system because she needed her own Paizo account. OK so I created an account for her (she's 11). Then I get the error message that she needs a ticket with her account . . . but I bought her ticket - because she's 11 ;) So while the instructions say the buddy feature makes it easy for families to use the lottery, it's not going to work for families who buy their tickets under one account (which I suspect is most). Any way we can still participate in the lottery? The lottery is important because looking at the events there are a limited number appropriate for my daughter. I bought us tickets for 3 days . . . should I be concerned that I won't get us into (age appropriate) events together? Thanks!
Backstory: I played D&D in the 70s and 80s, and am now 45 and getting back into D&D to play with my kids. Tried 4ed for the past couple years and while my daughter and her friends loved it, I had to basically ignore half of the 4ed content to create a game experience that was more role playing and less tabletop gaming. Then I recently found out about Pathfinder. I got the Beginner Box and within minutes the kids were able to make their own characters and were knee deep in that awesome world of imagination and creativity that I loved about D&D in the 70s/80s. I've created some adventures for them, but would love to save some time and find an Adventure Path or set of modules that would take us through a year or so (we play every other week). I bought the new Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path and it looks great, but before I start that I want some advice to make sure I've got the best for our group. Here's what we are looking for: + They prefer story arcs and memorable NPCs over hack and slash.
Thanks for any input! |
