As the leader of Maelstrom, could you please move us from the Maelstrom heading into Golgotha? We have since formally joined up with them and integrated. Golgotha is now also formally a part of Pax, as well.

can explain a bit more as to why someone would choose a Rogue (outside RP'ing reasons).

Find / remove Traps

Pick locks

Sneak Attack increased melee damage vs. flanked targets

Sneak Attack increased ranged damage vs. sniper targets

Stealth for observation / recon

Mixture of lightweight armor and good melee damage

Use Magic Device

Isn't the game skill based with archetypes? Couldn't I just train pick locks, find/remove traps, and use magic device as a wizard or sorc? Then also take invisibility, for recon and other such things? All this said, given that Arcane Trickster is one of my fav classes to play as.

Maelstrom will help sponsor Green Hat Tuesdays from this point onward.

I can say for certain that the Xeilian Empire is not planning on being an evil leaning organization. As the Chaotic Neutral leader of Maelstrom, the empire is working in much the same way as our council did. We had a neutral, evil, and good councilor to balance the views and ideas that each of us brought to the table, and we were stronger for it. I would love to see a good organization join with us, for that much needed balance.

I would love to join for some tabletop fun, depending on what days/times you are planning on running it.

"I see that I still have a lot to learn about the lay of the land here, perhaps you can enlighten me sometime of how the River Kingdoms operate sir?" He said as he was soon interrupted by one of the women he had noticed earlier, he hadn't bothered listening in, and so he didn't catch her name. Though as she mentioned part of what he said to his dwarven companion, he didn't seem quite surprised, just his usual ho hum sort of self. "Is that right? Well, how can I turn down an offer of interest then? It would be impolite no?"

He stood up and brushed himself off, as he walked over to the crowded table, taking a seat as he looked at all the different people gathered. "So what's this about a discussion? I hadn't been eavesdropping on peoples conversations like others, so I am unaware of what it is that you are all talking about."

Goblin Squad Member

"Yes I imagine that's true, and I hope to do just that." He said as he eyed the box, leaving it unopened at least for the moment, prying eyes and all that. "Work was easy to come by in Galt, every day there was another battle to fight, and we were all too happy to fight it for them. What about you? Are you new to these parts as well?" He wondered if he could get more information, about who might be wanting to hire his crew.

He would then nod to the man, as his offer was declined. "Good day to you then sir, I appreciate the prompt delivery."

He looked to the dwarf's book with a hint of curiosity, wondering what secrets it might hold, but he didn't pry or press the dwarf. He wasn't sure just how much he should reveal just yet, of either his own understanding of the art, or other more pressing matters. "I have been around, I run a venture company of sorts, we are new to these parts, and have operated more in Galt in recent years. Though we figure it's about time to make a bigger name for ourselves in the River Kingdoms, easier work I suppose." He said all rather plainly as if it wasn't all that interesting of a story.

As he saw the new person walk towards him with a parcel under his arm, he nodded expectantly. "Yes, that's right. I hope it wasn't too hard to find me? The journey was quite long, and I was worried that I might miss you." He reached into his coin pouch to hand the man his fee. "Care for some food sir? It's the least I can offer for such prompt delivery." He said as he reached for the package.

As he resumed his eating, he would occasionally glance as he heard or saw new people with curiosity, wondering who they might be or if they posed a threat. When he was satisfied that he was safe in his seat, he would return to the food before him and the dwarf beside him as he listened to the man's question. "I do, and I always have. I take it you also practice then sir?"

He would eventually make quick work of his large meal, but instead of being tired or relaxed, he was instead energized and a bit more wired, as if all that was keeping him in a slump was not the long travel time, but just a simple lack of a nice hot meal. He pushed aside his plates to make room for his current mug of simple water, and for a nice place to rest against, as he began to watch the other patrons more carefully, always keeping his ears open as he tried to both watch and hold a conversation with the dwarf. He wanted to know more about a few certain patrons, but for now he was content to let his eyes dart between people every couple of moments, notably lingering the longest on the man making tea, with curious interest, that he didn't try to hide.

He had various plates of food and drink in front of him, mostly meats and bread in sizable quantity, along with a couple of tankards of water, finishing off one glass only to down the next. He looked up from his meal as the dwarf spoke, his blue eyes seemed to have a slight metallic sheen to them as he listened to him speak. "It seems fine to me." He said as he shook the man's hand firmly, but didn't smile or act anywhere near as jubilant, yet neither did he frown, or seem brooding. "I am Cyneric." He uttered plainly, and it took him a moment to think on how to answer the man's question. He thought for a moment, before seeming to remember how to properly answer such a thing. "I am fine, and yourself sir Caskenflagon?"

As he awaited a reply, he turned back to his food and continued eating.

He was a tall but slim man, easily towering over most others. Light leather armor covered most of his features, adorned with various symbols that must hold some sort of meaning to him. A small leather bound book which seems almost pristine in condition hung from his belt, along side two nicely crafted knives. However these were not his most striking features, whatever part of his body that wasn't covered by his armor, had blue tattoos that rang along his body and face, glowing and pulsing ever so slightly.

It had been a long hike to the nearest tavern, or any form of civilization for that matter, and though he wasn't tired, he found himself quite hungry, almost desperately so. It had been a long time since he had eaten, now that he thought about it. Though he was not averse to hunting for game, why waste the energy now that a tavern was in sight?

He opened the doors and took the closet seat to the bar, not seeming to notice others as he focused more on the staff. He ordered plenty, more then one man should eat, but he was ravenous, or perhaps there was more to it? His coin pouched jingled as he reached for it, opening it, and paying quickly as he awaited his food. All of his motions seemed calculated and with precision, no wasted movement, no wasted word, and now he began to turn to scan the room, catching short glimpses of the rest of the patrons that arrived at this quaint little establishment.

I know hobs, but you know what they say, my sexy constructness brings all the rpers to the yard. So it's only a matter of time now before this thread is flooded with coordinators.

I look forward to taking your green hat sir, and fulfilling my dream of opening a green hat supply store

Consider me interested in being the rp coordinator for Maelstrom Company.

I figure it's about time to post about how we are structured, and our views on certain hot topic matters.

We are an oligarchy ruled by a council of three, each council member is divided by alignment, and advocates for members that fall into said alignment.

Cyneric: Neutral alignment
Morbis: Evil
Huin: Good

In this way all members below council are fairly represented within the guild.

Our primary task is as a standing army, assassin's or caravan guards for hire, we are mercenaries and will be primarily focused on contract work. As such, banditry is a low priority for us, and not something that we will participate in regularly.

We are still taking contracts, however we have recently entered into an alliance with Golgotha, so any future contracts must not conflict with the terms of said alliance.

With that said, since everyone seems to be doing it all willy and or nilly, I figure I should join the party and talk at least about my views on griefing and what have you.

I view griefing as something that is repeated, so corpse camping and the like, as well as anything that is verbally abusive, or could be considered harassment.

I do not view RPK as griefing, though I would like to encourage people to make RPK at least fun or interesting for both parties rather then, I kill you and take your stuff. Perhaps throw in some RP, or make some sort of crazy demand for pants or green hats, something at least more memorable then just a gank.

If anyone has any questions feel free to comment in said thread, or send me a pm.

Maelstrom is still recruiting. While we may be a mostly military organization for hire and pvp focused, we have and accept members of all play styles.

We are also playing games like Darkfall, league of Legends and Final Fantasy 14 in the mean time, if any wish to join us.

Goblin Squad Member

Happy to be of service, I look forward to a mutually profitable venture, and to helping your Empire achieve it's goals.

Goblin Squad Member

Hey all, I'm Cyneric, leader of Maelstrom Company. I usually do more lurking then posting, but figured it's time to be more active in the community.

Goblin Squad Member

All of that seems exciting, thanks for the links. We're also playing Darkfall, but on the EU side.

Since I can't change the OP, I'll just post our updates here.

Government type: Oligarchy
Tax rate: TBD on game launch

Hey, I haven't visited this forum in a long time, what did I miss, since I have been gone? Maelstrom is still going strong, albeit it in other games while we wait.

Goblin Squad Member

I like the sound of that idea, and may be interested in such a notion. Maybe we can work something out to achieve such a noble goal?

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks for the kindly welcome, looking forward to potentially doing business with you.

We're not mentally insane, just occasionally reality impaired.

Name: Maelstrom Company
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Preferred Alignments: CN/TN/CE/CG
Role: Soldier's of fortune, with an interest in politics.

Story: Maelstrom company was founded as a band of brother's who witnessed tyranny from both those who had pledged themselves towards the light, and those who were more nefarious. They had no intention of letting either side rule, accepting contracts for lower costs in order to keep their reputation up, while achieving their own goals of dethroning those who they viewed as to eager, or not in their best interests. Maelstrom believes in maintaining the balance of power between good and evil, viewing both as undesirable if they have too much control at any one time.

Philosophy: While we do not mind bending or breaking certain laws, if it suits our purpose, we are still honorable in a sense. We have no intention on actively seeking out those weaker then us, and will very rarely accept contracts for such things. We will always ensure a contract is fulfilled to your specifications, and will not give up or go back on it once accepted,if you need something smuggled we're your guys. Maelstrom will happily accept contracts at lower cost, if we believe said target is a threat to an area's stability or if said settlement is making too many land grabs.

Our game focus: As a Mercenary group, we are primarily military based, but in order to fund the war machine, we need all types to contribute from crafters to explores, so that we have the materials to fight, and know what terrain suits our needs the best. We are accepting all roles, and play styles, and would prefer more roleplay oriented people, whether that is casual or hardcore, either are welcome to join with us.
We are mainly American based Timezones, but will accept any.

Rules:
1) Since we rarely pick on the weak, random player killing in our name is not tolerated, there must be a purpose behind your actions, whether that be highly valued goods, or subverting a settlement getting supplied. We will however not tolerate griefing for any reason.

2) Always honor your agreements and your debts. A man is only as good as his word.

3) Be respectful, contracts come from good reputation, trolling does not lend itself well to respect.

4) We use Vent, and it is required in order to communicate effectively, you do not need a mic, but you must be on it to at least listen.

Website is currently a work in progress, so if you are interested in joining with us, either respond to the thread or send me a PM.
