When my chaotic neutral witch got improved familiar he smacked his ermine on a rock and shared it with his new sprite familiar for dinner.

Now that he is visiting the abyss I've been thinking about upgrading to something more interesting, but I'm not sure how the group (especially the paladin) would react to a quasit.

But only if something bad happens to Dingle.

If my witch melds with his familiar (through the spell, if that is relevant), can he still use his hexes?

Text from spell:
While possessing your familiar, you can communicate with it telepathically. You keep your Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, level, class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, alignment, and mental abilities. The familiar’s body retains its own Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, hit points, natural abilities, and automatic abilities.

Thanks!

Well, ok. That is how my DM is interpreting the rules also.

I guess this is really an NPC item meant to torment players with a recurring villain.

Or for me to torment the party Paladin.

The description for hexing doll includes the following:

"...Alternatively, if the doll is stuffed with the hair of a creature, any witch holding the doll increases the DC of her hexes by +2 when using the hexes against that creature..."

So, if my witch character were to cut some hair off the party's human paladin, Jim, and stuff it in a hexing doll who could it affect?

Obviously Jim, but it could affect all humans?

And if my witch were to purchase a hexing doll (my DM hasn't said I can't) then how would it work?

Thanks.

Thanks Ghettowedge, but I mapped that out and Sturbridge seems a little far to drive. Especially mid-week.

Don, I got your reply to my e-mail and I may check out the Pathfinder Society meetings up in Nashua since that seems to be the closest thing to where I'm currently living.

I'm a recent transplant from the west coast (Seattle), and I need to find a gaming group! I'm hoping to find a casual weekly game where the emphasis is on character development and in general just enjoying the game and the company around the table.

I've been gaming for about 30 years (yeah, I'm old) with most my experience in D&D until my last group decided to switch to Pathfinder.

If anybody has an game table with an open chair please let me know.

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks for the feedback. I'll talk to the DM and we'll probably agree to not do that again.

As it stands, the group is fairly new to PF and this DM is new to that role in general. The small party we have was in danger of being wiped out by one ghoul as a result of some bad dice rolls so I'm sure that played into his ruling.

Unfortunately, the ghoul escaped and when I stop raging I'll be tired and paralyzed along with at least one other character. Guess we'll deal with that next week.

Last night, my barbarian failed his fort save vs a ghoul and was paralyzed. The next round, I asked the GM if I could rage to free myself. The +2 bonus to the fort save from the additional constitution was enough to make my original save good so he let me do that.

Just thought I'd see what the community opinion was on this.

Thanks everyone.

If this is the returning dagger from RotRL, my advice is to sell it. 4k gps for equipment is much better than a 1d2 - 4, that requires a nat 20 to hit anything with.

Yep, that is where it's from.

So, as-is my knife (actually it might be a dagger, but whatever) throwing monkey would be pretty ineffective.

Now, if I had taken the beast-bond archetype it looks like I could give him feats to make him proficient; but I'm not sure if that would be worth it. I'd also need to check with my DM to see if he'd allow me to modify my character at this point.

Guess I'd also like to see what an "Entropic Monkey" from the improved familiar list might do for me.

I'm sure that none of these ideas would make for a really powerful character, but that's ok. I'm looking for something to have fun with.

During our game last night our group acquired a tiny magical knife that automatically returns. Not much use to any players (all human-sized), but it would be fun to let my monkey familiar get busy with it.

So, can a normal monkey familiar use a throwing knife? Or would I need to take some feats to make that possible?

Thanks,
Cule
