Corona considers the two paths that stretch before Valais, as well as the counsel that both Zarnel and Bask have already offered. "New Friend...I think it depends on how long you think you can wait. Hunting down the other demon might be faster and maybe it'll feel more satisfying in the short term, but...I dunno. Getting the resources of Heaven itself to help sounds like a really big - and rare - deal. I think you should take advantage of it, if you think you can hold on as you are a little while longer."

"As far as the cleansing ritual goes, um, we should probably try and purify it before we take it anywhere - just in case," she adds.

Corona is trained in all four of those skills, though her Diplomacy is the best of the four. To save time, I'll just roll a check for each skill and our GM can adjudicate as necessary - add +1 for Guidance if the ritual allows for it.

Corona won't take an AoO either.

Alarmed, Corona hustles around Salim and reaches out to touch the grappled Valais on the shoulder.

"New Friend Valais, you have to fight it!"

Corona will cast Protection from Evil, Communal on Valais; she'll also target herself and Salim since he's in reach.

"Hey, whoa, stop!" Corona calls out as she's suddenly compelled to approach the room's center. You can tell by the look on her face that she's trying to fight whatever is controlling her, but it doesn't seem like it's working. "Whatever this is, it can't be good! New Friends, help!"

Spellcraft (DC 27): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Spellcraft (DC 20): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

"Hmm...lots of strange magical rocks in this place," Corona declares after studying the gem for a few moments. "But at least we found the other part of the key for that door!"

Noticing that it will take some mighty steady hands to actually remove the stone without breaking the thing that's attached to it, Corona backs up to give Merisiel plenty of room to work. She does give her a little encouraging pat on the shoulder, though.

With everyone else in the room, Corona is able to move up and step inside as well.

Will (DC 25): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

She blinks at seeing all the shadow-duplicates of her friends and as (presumably) one in her own likeness begins to peel from the wall. "How strange!"

She wastes no time in attempting to afflict Shadow-Zarnel with a bout of bad fortune.

Corona casts Ill Omen on Shadow-Zarnel.

Though Corona can't really get a good view into the room from her position in the hallway, she can still tell that something's happening - something that probably isn't good.

"Is it time to punch demons, New Friends?" she asks before uttering a small prayer to protect the group.

Casting Prayer~

"If you're sure..." Corona remarks, looking uneasy when Zarnel offers to be a guinea pig to see if the trap has reset itself. "But if it goes off again, let's see if New Friend Merisiel can disarm it, okay?"

"Sounds good to me, New Friend!"

"It's also good to not leave unexplored places at your back," Corona adds. "At least, that's what I've heard."

Spellcraft (DC 27): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Spellcraft (DC 20): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

"Hmm...I don't know what this gem is supposed to be, but someone did cast a Continual Flame on it at some point," Corona declares after studying the gem for a minute or two. "If it doesn't seem evil, maybe we should take it with us?"

"This doesn't look strange or suspicious at all, New Friends," Corona smiles as they peer into the room. "There's probably magic in here so I wanna see if I can figure out what kind before we go in and start touching things."

From her position just outside the door, Corona uses her power to scan what she can of the room for magical auras.

Casting Detect Magic.

"You're so good at that, New Friend Merisiel," Corona smiles as the elf gets to work on disarming yet another trap. "Did it take you a lot of time and practice?"

Not wanting to be left out of the action, Corona kicks a piece of the shattered statue and sends it skittering back down the hallway.

"Yeah! Take that!"

She's also surprised to see that the statue contained a hidden item - two, really, including the flail. "Enchanted, huh? Let me see..."

Spellcraft - Manacles (DC 16): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Spellcraft - Flail (DC 18): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

"Oh...those are Manacles of Cooperation, New & Old Friends. And the flail is a +1 Flail. Huh."

"Aw, thank you," Corona smiles at Zarnel. "I try my best!"

After the group has proceeded past the splattered pustules Corona listens to Valais' words with great interest. "I don't cower at anyone's feet," she chuckles, but for the first time since you've been traveling together, there's no humor in her eyes. "We'll have to go left at some point anyway so we may as well do it now, right New & Old Friends?"

"Like I said, I think we'd need an actual priest...or someone with a similar sort of goodly power. I know some healing magic and a few other tricks, but, um...I don't know if I'd call my powers 'good'. At least not all the time!"

Alas, Corona doesn't know any 3rd level spells that have the Good descriptor >.>

Kn. Planes (DC 20): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33

"Well, whatever the servants were meant to do, it probably wasn't anything good," Corona frowns. "That big purple spiked guy? That's a kalavakus demon - I've seen lots of pictures of them in books and things. From the look of the murals, he probably asked them for human sacrifices...ugh!"

She takes a look at the fleshy growth on the walls and carefully pokes at it with the end of her longspear. "I dunno...this might need an actual priest or someone to cleanse it off because I don't think water and elbow grease will cut it."

"I'm sorry."

Corona seems to realize that Valais doesn't want to pursue the topic further and so other than a few sincere words, she doesn't say anything more. Instead, she smiles at the enormous lion and obliges him with some head pats and ear scritches.

"That was good work with that trap, New Friend Merisiel! I guess the people that built this place didn't want strangers dropping by to say hello."

Noticing Zarnel's glance, Corona smiles and gives him a thumbs up. "I'm fine. I'm just glad you and New Friend Bask are okay! And that that door didn't...like...dissolve your weapons or anything. I've heard of some nasty things that can do that."

She moves up behind the rest of the group as Merisiel begins to canvass the real door and hallway beyond. "Good job, New Friend Salim! Good kitty! Um...New Friend Bask, is it okay if I pet him or does he not like that?"

I knew what that link was gonna be before I even clicked it. A classic! Also, don't forget about Corona's Misfortune effect I mentioned earlier since it just attacked Zarnel.

"Ughhh...okay fine, let's see if this works!"

Corona begins casting and suddenly three hooked chains erupt from the ground and strike at the wall!

Barbed Chain #1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage (S): 1d6 ⇒ 5

Barbed Chain #2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage (S): 1d6 ⇒ 1

Barbed Chain #3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage (S): 1d6 ⇒ 2

Corona casts Barbed Chains, which aren't subject to SR. If any of those is a hit (doubt it), the wall needs to make a DC 15 Will or be shaken for 1d4 rounds.

I think it was just Merisiel that needed to make a Will save, wasn't it?

"Eww Friends, I think this thing has been warped by all the bad Abyssal mojo that was in this area," Corona explains, making a face. "Hey, Mister Mimic! Look at the bright lights!"

Corona conjures a burst of bright radiance directly in the door's face...er, space.

Burst of Radiance (If Mimic Is Actually Evil): 5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 4, 2) = 14

Corona casts Burst of Radiance on the door. If it's evil, it takes the damage no matter what; DC 16 Reflex for the other effects.

"Augh! The door's alive!" Corona shrieks as the thing suddenly animates and stabs Bask. She tries to remember if she's heard anything about evil angry doors before...

...as she utters a simple prayer to the Man in the Moon to bolster herself and her friends.

Caster Check vs. SR (If Necessary): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Corona will cast Prayer; due to her primary curse she's staggered for this first round of combat.

"That makes sense," Corona replies cheerfully to Bask. "There aren't any magic auras on the door so you shouldn't have to worry about taking a nasty spell to the face."

She glances over her shoulder. "New Friends, I think the door is locked. Do you know anything about a password or something like Zarnel asked about? Or is it a mystery for aged sages?"

Should the pilgrims not prove helpful, she turns her attention back to the dials and tries to figure out if there's some sort of pattern to the dials.

Kn. Planes, Maybe?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

"Abyssal runes? Then I guess this might be some sort of lock or warding device, New and Old Friends!"

She begins scanning for magic auras on the door; if she's perturbed by the runes being Abyssal in nature, she doesn't show it.

"Um...New Friend Shyael seems really convinced that everyone and everything here is on the level, including us," Corona whispers. "But I still feel like there's something strange going on..."

Zarnel's got the best Diplomacy skill but Corona can easily Aid Another if needed.

Corona isn't sure what manner of magic was just invoked but as the conversation seems to be going well enough, she doesn't worry too much about it.

"Guardians..." Corona muses aloud and something from the briefing several days prior comes to mind. "Oh! Are your new friend god-callers, then? That's amazing!"

She looks around. "It's very nice of you to help them reclaim their home, but the crusaders and Jorsal were worried about you. Maybe send a pigeon or something next time, okay?"

Corona blinks, looks at Zarnel and then back at Merisiel and Bask before shrugging. "I guess Old Friend Zarnel knows what he's doing!" she whispers cheerfully. Though the previous 10-day trek hadn't been especially glamorous, the company Zarnel and the others (but especially and obviously Zarnel) had done a lot to brighten her mood and diminish the dark shadows under her eyes. So as the aasimar takes the lead, she's not inclined to question his methods.

"Hello New Friends!" Corona waves at the crowd. "What are you digging for? Do you need some help?"

I think you'd fill out the sheet with maybe Merisiel Pregen but use whatever character number you'd like the chronicle credit to go to.

Hey folks, I'm heading out of town to a convention today and won't be home until Monday afternoon at some point. I'll be taking my Chromebook with me as I expect I'll have some downtime between sessions to check in on the forums. All that said, please feel free to bot Corona if need be! She's got a chicken familiar (Stuffing) but she's a non-combat critter.

"I hope we can too!" Corona exclaims in reply to Zarnel, more loudly than she'd intended, and flushes slightly with embarrassment. "Um, sorry...it's just nice to see Old New Friends again."

Kn. History: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

"Uh, anyway...I remember reading a little about Sarkoris but I don't remember all of what I read," Corona murmurs, her expression suddenly vague and dreamy. "But the answers are right there, within reach..."

Her eyes grow clouded as she appears to enter some manner of trance...but then just as quickly her eyes return to normal and she snaps out of it.

Knowledge of the Ages (Reroll; History): 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 4 = 27

"Oh! That's right! Separate clans ruled the land formally known as Sarkoris. When the Worldwound opened in 4606 AR, the demons destroyed most of the clans - obviously - and the refugees scattered into Mendev, Numeria, Ustalav, and the Realm of the Mammoth Lords," she explains. "As for their gods, Sarkorians worshiped an ever-changing pantheon of gods. Among these were “true” gods, empyreal lords, and demon lords, as well as powerful outsiders. Others were fictitious beings or eidolons summoned by the revered people they referred to as god callers."

And after a slight pause, she adds, "Laktharis was the name of a brutal living god who ruled over the city of Dredarin, a small city in the hills north of Storasta. He demanded total devotion and obedience from his worshipers. So...there's that. Sounds like a great guy." Judging from her expression, that last statement is purely one of sarcasm.

"Valais...that name seems familiar for some reason," remarks a young woman with dirty-blonde hair and pale green eyes. While she has the beginnings of some obvious smile-lines on her face the shadows under her eyes hint at her having not rested well in some time. She's dressed in a shiny breastplate and carries a longspear that seems to be made of cold iron. A solitary chicken ambles near her feet, seemingly content to root out small bugs from the cracks in the floor.

"I feel like she ought to be an Old New Friend instead of just a New Friend...but that's probably just my imagination," Corona continues with a shrug. "Do you know if her plan will take us into the Worldwound? If it does, is there anything specific we should know about the demons in the area?"

As she speaks, she keeps glancing surreptitiously at Zarnel and fidgeting as though she's pleased to see him but too polite to make a scene...at least not yet.

Corona has played some of the Valais mini-arc out of order...and she's also adventured with Zarnel before :)

Burst of Radiance is such a great little spell~

"Oh no! Don't worry New New Friends, we won't leave you behind!" Corona calls out as she also begins casting Liberating Command to help those caught by the tentacles.

Tempting for Nina as well but I think her eidolon would probably have some objections! And both Fran and Nella would prefer to try and live to fight another day as would Corona, heh.

I'm going to assume/hope Garduk's roll was enough but if not, Corona will burn her ability as described above.

When the coffer is opened and the statue revealed, Corona's eyes spark with recognition...and puzzlement. "Oh! New Friends, this statue represents Chaldira Zuzaristan. She's a halfling god of battle, luck, and mischief. Pretty cool actually, for a god. But why would one of her statues be locked up down here?"

It's a fine question but one that it doesn't seem like they'll get an answer to anytime soon. As the earth rumbles and dust and rubble begin to fall...

Acrobatics (DC 23; Luck Bonus): 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 1 - 2 = 12

...Corona loses her footing and falls to the ground. Her eyes widen as she sees a huge chunk of the ceiling about to come down...

Reflex (DC 17; Luck Bonus): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12

...but she manages to roll out of the way just in the nick of time!

"Oh no! New Friends! New Friends, are you okay!?"

Corona shakes her head. "Nope! I've never been very good with little tools like lockpicks. But I might be able to corrode the lock open if Garduk really doesn't want to use his magic powers."

Corona flinches as Reesa shrieks with pain, looking around for the source of it.

"Oh! New Friend, what's wrong!? Is it ghosts???"

Alas, Corona can't make that Spellcraft even on a 20.

"Aw geeze, New Friend Hanlin..." Corona stammers, flushing a little bit. "That's nice of you to say, but, um..."

Her eyes take on a dreamy, faraway look. Well, more dreamy than usual, anyway.

"There's someone else that's been on my mind...he's probably here too, somewhere...I hope he's okay..."

"Well, at least it seems like we're making progress as a whole, New Friends," Corona remarks as she follows the others towards the northeastern ruins. "Even if we've not found anything around here. And I guess making sure the rear is secure is still pretty important!"

"Are we just wasting time, New Friends? There doesn't seem to be anything worth looking at around here," Corona remarks with a frown. "I mean, I guess there's still whatever's across the bridge there (the section in the southeast corner of the map) that we should look at..."

"Yes New Friends, it looks like we need to just start working our way around through the rest of the ruins," Corona agrees, gesturing towards the structures she can see across the bridge. "Let's go but keep our peepers peeled!"

She then moves to follow Magnus and the rest.

"Oh yes please, I'll take all the help I can get, New Friend," Corona smiles as Magnus begins passing out the 'celestial awesomeness'.

Aid: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

"Aw, thanks for worrying about me, New Friend Garduk," she adds. "I try my best to stay in one piece since being split into multiple pieces would be very inconvenient."

Once everyone is ready she follows after Bo to the north, looking around at the shelves with interest.

"This is strange, New Friends. Did this place used to be something else before the Whispering Tyrant got locked up?"

"Oh, sorry New Friend Garduk!"

Corona quickly looks around to make sure the coast is clear for a moment and then begins digging through her pack.

"Don't worry, I have a rope!" she calls back down, suddenly back to her oddly-cheery self.
