Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Thanks for running. I know I haven't been the best player in this game. For some reason I had a tough time connecting to my character, and often lost track of everything that was happening. I agree that I'm not sure this type of CoC game works for PbP. Maybe if you had several players all being extremely active it would work... but that's like catching lightning in a bottle. I think you did a fantastic job of organizing the information in the game, I just know I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of data.

Thanks again, and I'd definitely love to play with you again.

"Wait a minute". cough...cough...cough. "What kind of strange happenings do you mean"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt is still here, I'm just a little confused with all the loose ends and clues. I'll re-read the thread this weekend, and try to make some sense of everything.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt continues his new habit of continually biting his fingernails and nods in agreement.

"Seems like the logical next step".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt is thinking through all that he is learning, and wondering if his delicate psyche can handle more information, but his curiosity is somehow leading him to continue the journey.

1d100 ⇒ 89 Psychology

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt nods his head in agreement. "At least it's dry here. My cough is much better in this climate".

He then stands and walks about a bit.

"We should probably try to hire a guide to the desert. I know I've never ridden a camel".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Tis a tangled web. Perhaps we should look up an expert on Egyptian lore and history. Maybe someone at the Museum? I've always kind of wanted to see the museum hear anyway"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt has been even more silent and withdrawn since the voyage. The dark circles around his eyes have deepened, and he seems to be constantly lost in his own thoughts.

Still trying to find out what the spell Colt learned does. I can't find it anywhere.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

1d8 ⇒ 5 History

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Arabic

1d4 ⇒ 3 Sanity Loss

Well I was going to ask if the Arabic he'd learned helped him with the books written in Arabic... but never mind with that roll. BTW... where is that spell? I can't find it for some reason.

@Jake>> "Well hopefully your money will buy us some information. I can barely understand anything they're saying".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Sorry guys. Lifes been a bit crazy.

Colt would have gathered up the more interesting scrolls, and books from the secret lab, as well as the remainder of the powdered silver, and anything else that looked interesting before officials arrived and took it for evidence. He'll spend the journey mostly cooped up in his cabin reading and researching these things.

Yeah. I know I'm playing with fire.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt grabs up the powdered silver and charges into the room intent on casting it in an arc between Gavigan, and whatever he's summoning.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt begins to frantically search the jars and bins for something that might disrupt the horrible magic from Gavigan.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

What do you guys think about once again trying to recruit another player?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt's already tortured lungs almost fail him as the noxious smoke fills them. He steps back out of the chamber into the room and looks about for something to use to fight the abomination.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

1d100 ⇒ 64 Dodge

"Ah! What do we do! Bullets can't harm it".

And Colt's desperate cries are quickly swallowed up by the strange gas cloud.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Panic now setting at the horror of Gavigans power, Colt says a quick prayer aims and shoots again.

Don't have my books handy. Not sure if there is a bonus for aiming.

1d100 ⇒ 46 Pistol (20%)

1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Luck bullet

"Die! you unholy beast... Die"!

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

1d100 ⇒ 3 Dodge (50%)

Colt's eyes widen as a lightning bolt tears from the man in his direction, and finds his quick reflexes might pay off.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt's mouth drops open at the lack of his bullet doing anything, and fires again.

1d100 ⇒ 98 Pistol (20%)

1d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Bullet

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt shakily pulls his pistol, and tries to hold it steady enough for a shot. Well not much chance of me hitting anything, but worth a try.

1d100 ⇒ 30 Pistol (20%)

1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Bullet

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt steps to the door and listens to see if he can tell how close the chanting is.

1d100 ⇒ 68

"So now we decide. Do we attempt to take them on? Perhaps we can bar the door so they can't get out...but there may be another way around. Hard to say how many there are, and if we could take them on. Either way if we're not going to confront them we should take some of this stuff, and escape. We can then study it at our leisure... I'm a bit afraid of what they might be calling forth over there if we don't take them on now".

1d100 ⇒ 39 Cthulhu Mythos (02%)

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt steps forward, and begins to search for a secret entrance / exit from this room.

1d100 ⇒ 85 Spot Hidden (40%)

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"So do we see what the chanting all about and try to stop it, or just burn the place to the ground. We've made ourselves obvious, so if we go for the arson route we'll have to make ourselves scarce ASAP".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt follows Jake down the hallway, trying to catch his breath from the arduous climb. He waits in the hallway flashlight in hand, as Jake checks out each room, and keeps alert for any signs of detection.

1d100 ⇒ 23 Stealth (25%)... and for a change is actually quiet.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Let's go around the back of the house. Maybe they'll be a less conspicuous entrance". Colt begins to edge around the house counter-clockwise.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"I believe I might have some sleeping pills we can lace the steaks with. I am in favor of the overland approach. I'm not very strong, and couldn't help much rowing a boat... even if one is available".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"I would think we might be able to ask any neighbors, or perhaps if we find close by lodging we might get a feel for the activities in the manor. In any case any further investigation should probably wait for the cover of darkness... especially since they've been uncovered a bit. They'll probably be on high alert".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt views the objects with the others, and though bile rises in his throat at the 'Wrongness' of the objects, he is resolved, that if he can do anything to slow down or end this macabre scenario, he must do so.

"Yes. I agree Sylvia. At least that is a known target. Let us go there and see what the awaits us".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Well it's either off to Cairo, or off to Hong Kong. Any preferences"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt heaves as he tries to catch his breath. "I almost got caught on their ship. I was trying to listen, and the platform I was hiding on was picked up and lowered into the ship. Thankfully I was able to find a side door, and sneak my way off. Most of the crates had labels on them. Cairo Museum, Egypt, however you can see that this label covers another slightly older label which reads "Ho Fang Import/Export, Kaoyang Street, Shanghai, China

"This is big. Real big. I don't know where to turn next".

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Oh boy! I've stepped into it now. Colt begins to frantically search for another way out of the hold.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt finding his "Drunk Vagrant" act working so far, will try to find a place near the gangway of the ship, and pass out drunk, hoping to overhear any conversations, or notice any unique individuals.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Travelling the next three days, so might be a little inconsistent in posting. Feel free to bot as needed.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt quickly grabs a bottle off the top of the trash can, and pretends to drink it, stumbling around a bit, before finally collapsing with his back against the wall, and pretending that he finally succumbed to whatever he'd been drinking.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt tries to keep from coughing as they observe the warehouse.

1d100 ⇒ 98 Stealth (25% Skill)

And not only does he cough, he lapses into a coughing fit, and stumbles into a large trashcan.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"And this was also there". Colt exclaims putting the jar on the table. Not sure what it is, but maybe not having it will slow them down some"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Yeah let's get out of here".

He takes the jar of strange dust with him, trying to hide that fact from Sylvia. Not sure what skill that is, so I'll just roll and let you decide.

1d100 ⇒ 56 Random Conceal Object

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

1d100 ⇒ 68 Mythos (02%)

1d100 ⇒ 72 Sanity (Currently 30 out of 40 Max.)

Colt can't seem to take his eyes off the paintings. Does the artist look familiar? Are the paintings signed"

Finally he realizes that Sylvia had been talking to him... "What? Oh yeah I wouldn't want to be too obvious at this time... but this is disturbing on so many levels".

Colt takes out a notepad, and begins to sketch the contents of the room noting their location.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Look Sylvia. It looks like the eyes of this thing function as buttons of some sort".

do any of them look like they've been used lately?

"Do you think I should try to press one and see what happens"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Sure thing".

1d100 ⇒ 73 Spot Hidden: 40

I almost only play Gumshoe (Trail of Cthulhu) on my investigative games now. I hate going the right place for a clue, doing the right things, and then the dice tell you you're an idiot. :-) Gumshoe if you have the skill you find the clue, and go the right place you find the clue...period. You can spend points to find out more, but knowing what to do with the clues once you find them becomes the focus.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Hmmm. This is interesting".

1d100 ⇒ 89 Spot Hidden (40% chance)

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

"Oh dear. I was so looking forward to seeing you in action... Still I suppose the footage will suffice. Where would you like us to wait"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt checks himself out of the hospital, a little worse for the wear, but as healthy as he normally is.

"That's not a bad idea. Seems that that there were some weird sacrifices and crap going on in Nairobi with a group called 'The Bloody Tongue'. They had some spell or something to call forth a being called 'Nyalathotep' to the best of my understanding. Rumor is there was also a division of this cult right here in bloody England... so that might be a lead of sorts... though I wouldn't know where to begin looking for rumors of this cult".

Colt sighs, and throws his book sack on his lumpy mattress. "Perhaps some research"?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

While Colt recuperates he'll take the time to study about the book.

"Let's meet up somewhere in a couple of days and see what we've found out. Those paintings... those horrid paintings. What happened with them"?

I'm a bit overwealmed right now and confused about what we're supposed to do next.

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt is both relieved and apprehensive when Sylvia shows up. After all he ran and deserted those depending upon him. When he sees how relieved she seems to be he croaks out a few words.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to desert you guys. I don't know what came over me... it was... I don't know... just too much. But I feel better now".

He rises to his feet.

"Guess I'll need to find my suitcase and change clothes. They gave me some they had here in lost-and-found, but they are a bit baggy, and short".

1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Sanity regained

And colt remains a bit shaky... jumping at every loud noise and quick movement.

I swear I've never had this many terrible rolls for characters in a PbP :-)

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Colt looks at Jake, his breathing intensifies, and be begins to fidget.

"Sorry".

He tears up the steps from the cellar, his big hat falling off as he runs, but he doesn't even slow down as he heads out the front door, not even bothering to close it. He runs up the street away from the house not stopping till he is way out of site of that cursed place.

Where am I?

Male Human (Irishman) HP 9/9: SAN 37/30 Missionary - Spiritualist

Ah. Thanks. Reading that part of the rules made my head hurt. You’re explanation was more concise. Unfortunately that is 13 of Colts original 40... so... ouch.

Sorry disregard, the sanity checks are a bit back to front- Colt you manage to suppress the image and it does not significantly affect you.

Not sure what you mean by that?

Colt begins to murmur something unintelligible over and under other his breath, and sway back and forth.
