Cole Pegason's tale is a sad one, as many of those whose lives have been touched by Gaedren Lamm. He was born into a poor family as the youngest of 5 children. When he was young Cole's father contracted a sickness, which he couldn't beat and died when Cole was only 4 years old. His mother couldn't bear the loss and turned to drugs as her answer. The family burned through their meager savings within a year. Cole's mother was desperate for her "cure" by this point and traded her youngest son to Gaedren for a fix. Cole spent the next 8 excruciating years in this villain's care. During his time there Cole tried to help the other "Little Lamms" as much as he could and he became fairly good at mending their damaged bodies. During one of his pickpocket attempts, which he was never any good at; Cole grabbed a pouch from a priest of Iomedae. In this pouch was not the money that he was looking for, but rather a wooden symbol of this goddess. Something felt right about holding this symbol in his hands, the elegant longsword with a circular sunburst behind the sword's hilt. Cole was drawn to attended the Pantheon of the Many and saw the man he stole from speaking to a crowd. Cole was caught up in the man's speech and for a moment the priest looked him in the eyes and a profound sense of peace fell upon Cole. He ran away because he was afraid of what he felt and when he got back to Gaedren, the man saw the holy symbol and asked Cole what he'd manage to steal.
When Cole could only shrug and say that he had gone to the church Gaedren flew into a rage and beat Cole to within an inch of his life. Cole fell back into that sense of calm that he felt before and once Gaedren was done, Cole managed to escape. He ran back to the church and found the priest from before. Crying and bleeding, Cole held out the broken holy symbol to the priest and begged to be allowed to stay. The old priest agreed and also began to train Cole in the way of Iomedae. He was trained in the scholarly and the martial ways of his newfound goddess. Cole was trained in armoursmithing in order to help outfit the clerics & paladins of the faith. His scalemail that he wears was created by his own hands.
