Spoiler:
The sphere has hardness 30 and 180 hit points so it's unscathed. As Holg's powerful blows bounce off the sphere leaving no mark at all and everyone is yelling in their life-and-death battle voices, Coen looks on helplessly. "I just figured out how to use it recently, so if you would stop trying to poke a hole in it I would appreciate it." Coen takes a quick look around the area and continues. "It will only last a few minutes, so take your time and get ready or plan an ambush. I can dispel it early if needed but it takes less energy for me to let it fade naturally." Coen will cast dispel magic on the sphere if he is asked, if not the spell fades in 8 minutes minus a round or so.

Pass on the Ioun Stone, Coen is doing fine for gear as Sorcerer is very low on gear needs with a dedicated party around it. That's ignoring the fact that he loaded up on gear that he made himself on the last break. Eventually Coen will figure out that it's a +2 con stone and make a suggestion that one of the people who is commonly injured would make best use of it. The DC on identifying those stones is just super high.

Coen inspects the Ioun stone with Detect Magic but shrugs after studying it for a short while. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 "I cannot tell what it does but it is an ioun stone of some make. The real question is where did that giant get a mithril hammer that small... it might be that they killed some dwarves or found it somewhere nearby." He also eyes the burned tree, wondering about the cause.

Coen grimaces as the machine avoids most of the energy in his spell, he then sends another lightning bolt in pursuit. Lightning Bolt DC:19 for half, failure = dazzled: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 2, 3, 3, 1, 3) = 25

Coen politely applauds the test of strength, then returns to people watching and nursing his drink. His clothes slowly change to more closely match those of the locals as time goes on. In response to the planning for the trip to Charwood to search for Xoud he perks up. "What do we know of the Charwood? Any dangers common to the area that we should prepare for like poisons or monsters that turn people to stone? It will be our last chance to buy anything special before we leave, I'd hate to run into another situation where a scroll or potion would save a life and not have any handy.

Pass on both the scatterlight suit and the wand. Wand is more worthwhile as cash and the scatterlight suit has an arcane failure chance for +1 AC and a variable against lasers. Neither is worth it for Voen.

Coen slumps into his chair at the bar, and magically removes the dirt from his clothes before ordering whatever works from the barkeep. He keeps his eye on the action but otherwise seems to just be tired.

RE arcane knowledge:
Regarding the planar binding, thanks for the clarification. I thought it would take that much but when people suggested that a dispel magic would do it so I second guessed myself. Coen decides for honesty after assessing the situation. "We will need to either fulfill the needs of the contract binding the spirit here or purchase a scroll to dismiss it to its' home plane."

I almost wrote something about being out of spells, but I forgot that we rested. Coen steps slightly forward at the howling threat. " Stop your threats. I will make the attempt." Coen casts detect magic to attempt to discern the power and type of binding on the entity. Knowledge: Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 While doing this he also attempts to read what he can regarding the threats given by the voice. He is worried that he is in a situation where the threats are hollow and the binding is the only thing keeping the entity from killing everyone. Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Coen looks at Holg and slowly shakes his head. He leans in closely and explains in a whisper. "It's not impossible, but I've never learned to do it. We would at the very least need some scrolls to break the enchantment and then enabling the travel back is an entirely different thing that is beyond my experience."

Coen smiles as Holg pats him on the shoulder and then surreptitiously looks at the non-insane members of the group in a way that implies that he is not at all confident about sending a bound elemental back to its' home plane. Then he turns his head back towards the voice and Holg and smiles in a manner that seems to suggest that, yes indeed, he is one of the most powerful Numerian sorcerers and sending a bound elemental home would be a task worthy of his talents.

It's hurricane season again here in FL, so if things get spotty it's because Russel and I have no power and/or are fighting gators in the street. Just FYI, we're expecting some wind by Monday.

After the fight, Coen is tired after the remainder of the electrical charge dissipates into the metal in the room. "In mind to keep you all up to date, that marks the last of my highest level magics. I have enough to continue on, but my spells will have less impact."

After Viv fires her blast into the machine. Coen steps into the open space behind the door and evokes a torrent of electricity through the middle of the room along the same trajectory. Lightning Bolt DC 19: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 6, 1, 6, 2) = 28

Coen scratches the back of his head and laughs in embarrassment as Holg taps his chest and compliments him so loudly. " Haha sorry about the lack of notice, but we didn't have a chance to use that spell before. I hope to do it as rarely as possible, but it helps in these narrow hallways we're always crawling through."

Coen begins casting a spell. When he finishes a bolt of lightning shoots forth from the aura around Holg and courses through the remaining oozes before grounding into the nearby pipes. Lightning Bolt DC: 19 Ref for half: 7d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 6, 6, 1, 2) = 27

I cast a spell on Holg that he can choose to resist if he wants because it's written assuming a hostile target. If he doesn't, then it takes effect and he's basically lit up as per faerie fire, but that's mostly a side effect until I do something else. We never discussed the spell and Coen hasn't used it before, hence the lack of specifics. If you're not talking about what I did this round, we were still talking about how it's impossible to cast Blink on anyone other than yourself. Hence not casting it on anyone else ever.

Seeing the crowded situation at the front, Coen pulls out a small mirror and begins an arcane chant while making hand gestures over the object. "Holg, this might seem weird for a bit." DC 18 Will save Holg, unless you choose to forgo the save. Assuming you pass on the save/fail it the following happens. Holg is slowly enveloped by a dim radiance as he feels that he has become the pathway for a foreign energy.

Poking at the skulls and accumulated dross Coen frowns as he mutters to himself. "Whenever I feel guilty about killing someone, it always puts me back at ease when I see that they collect and polish skulls."

Coen's response is incredulous, he cannot reconcile the idea that this place entombed in stone could be a vehicle. Your ship?! This is a ruin underneath the ground near a village and the source of monsters that have killed people, I find your fake righteousness hard to believe as you shoot at us." As he talks he quietly makes his way toward the corner closest to the line of fire. There he chants a shorts spell before reaching out a hand to touch Kaska and somehow pushes her into the etherial plane, causing her to dip in and out of reality like a piece of wood on the surface of a lake. (Blink for 6 rounds, 50% chance attacks miss Kaska, 20% chance her attacks miss, 50% chance she can walk through any 5ft of solid material, etc...)

Having just seen everyone recover from one pitched battle in a tight space only to immediately walk into another one in an even tighter one Coen is a bit vexed. "Oh come on!" He immediately conjures forth a storm of gold dust to blind the attacking androids. Glitterdust on the lowest three, Save vs Will DC: 18

"I can honestly do this all day, so I shouldn't be the limiter. If we run out of healing and someone gets killed, my spells won't matter from that point. You and Holg would know best for when we should stop for the day and re-seal the hole."
Male Human Starsoul Sorcerer 7 38/38 HP | AC 16 T 12 FF 14 | Fort +6 Ref +6 Will +8 | Initiative +1 | Perception +0
Coen takes the time to calm down after the fight ends and listens to the other's thoughts on the androids here. " Who knows? But even if they were designed for something I'd say it had a lot to do with the place. After all, being locked alone in the dark with clouds of disintegrating dust isn't the best place to grow up. " "We should be more careful going forward. I'm sorry about this mess. I should have caught this ambush before it happened, would have if I was doing this right."

Coen follows up with conjuring a storm of gold dust in an attempt to blind as many as he can. (Glitterdust in a 10 foot burst centered such that it gets the 3 on the right but not holg.)

Shocked into action by the sudden attack, Coen steps back and with the lever of his magic twists space around the android in the middle of the formation, severing action from result and sending the android's next attacks into a chaotic direction. (Twisted Space DC: 18 will save negates, targeting the one adjacent to both Holg, Kaska, and all the other androids. If it fails all attacks this round hit a random target it threatens instead of it's intended target.)

Nice! I lean that way too. Coen's bloodline is slowly making him inhuman much in the way of a Dragon or Demon bloodline, just in his case it's preparing him to live in an airless void filled with solar radiation. I made similar assumptions about his resistance to heat and cold and the low light vision he got at 5th.

I still haven't finished Wasteland 2. I am so behind on my game backlog. "It's interesting. This wizard may already have the things the Technic League wanted from this site. For now we should see what we can do about eliminating the dangers of this place so that we can see what remains." In response to Viv, Coen adds. "It's that way for most ruins in my experience. You're learning the story of those long dead through what is left behind. Hopefully they're all at peace this time."

Brainiac, quick question. Under my sorcerer bloodline it indicates that at 9th level I no longer need to breathe as if under the effects of a necklace of adaptation, but the necklace of adaptation indicates that I am constantly surrounded by a layer of fresh air. Mechanically they're the same, but I'm interested in whether or not Coen just stops breathing at 9th or if he has a magical cushion of fresh air. Both are cool, they just affect all sorts of non mechanical roleplay, so I was wanting your opinion.

Coen has been largely quiet during the stay in town. He stays up late looking at the stars and watching the villagers while the others drink, both wary of the possibility of there being more agents or locals who might attack the group. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- In response to Fireday's tactical analysis he chimes in. "There shouldn't be any worries about my spells affecting them, we just need to watch the environment as lightning can be difficult to control in tight spaces. My primary worry is if any wounds that they cause can be treated normally, I'd hate to find out what happens if people breathe them in and they start destroying them from the inside."

When I start to feel that way about a character I tend to make some choices about who they are that changes the way they interact with the world. Maybe they fa;; inlove or learn to hate, the important thing is that it's something that motivates them. It doesn't have to be something entirely new, it could be a small thing about them that you decide to make a focus, just so long as it's interesting to you. I know Fireday has seemed to be the most altruistic and brave of the group so far. It's part of why Coen worries about him, reminds him of his brother in the Worldwound. (A good example there. Did I come in knowing that Coen's brother had joined the crusades? Nope. I had decided that the family was involved with the entire moving of Crusaders and goods along the Sellen River, but that was just color until I saw how you were playing Fireday and I reassessed to get more involved with what you were doing. Normally I might do this before the game as part of an involved character generation process but with the online format I think you need to be flexible.) The short point on this is: I know how that is, it happens to me too. Good sign that you need to make some choices to change how the character interacts with the world/develops going forward.
