I didn't think something could make me long for the boring backstory days.

True, true, the generic, "my family all died so i got a class level." is boring but it is twenty times better than the new, "since this happened in my life i should get a bonus to this."

I hate players that give the DM a hard time…mostly because I’m usually the DM. Especially that Clavos kid, always asking for “maps” and “backstories” and “character descriptions”. Seriously, who does those these days? It’s almost like they expect me to actually do some work or something. Kids these days.

I recall reading about prestige class that had a mock ‘funeral’ as a pre requisite to join, because after that you were effectively dead to your loved ones. One of the abilities granted was a save bonus vs fear (since you were inured to it by having ‘died’). I’ve combed my books and electronic files but can’t locate the class, its beginning to fester on me. Based on the admittedly skimpy info can anyone provide the class? Of course this could all be a false memory and I'll wake up in a shower...

If you have not looked in "The Book of Vile Darkness" or "Libris Mortis", you might want to...I dont know for sure.

you could always just pull a DM intervention on yourself, and just give the lantern three levels to get to "Full" lantern; with an extra HD.(so 2 HD in all, at theoretical level 3)

I find that the best solution for a waskully wab-kobold is to shoot it then break its neck for good measure.

This is what you do, take the War domain (Geting proficiency and focus with a weapon) and the Fate Domain (Geting uncany dodge) then just go fighter. this build geves more feats in the end plus a slightly increased will save... at the expence of attack bonus.

I would allow the idea.

The thing is if they kept doing it over and over they would soon encounter a BBEG with a reverse arrows spell (or whatever its called) on him/her so all those attacks would be automatically redirected back at the caster. It has limitations and if the player insists on using that strategy to beat all the bad guys then the bad guys must get tougher and smarter (at least on occasion) to provide a challenge.

I would also think that their to hit calculations need to be reviewed and that the DM needs to make them aware that they can use the combo but to abuse it means that the bad guys will use it and counter it. You don't want an arms race you want fun and cooperation.

You're definitely right that the web spell has no further effect on creatures that leave the area (once they've struggled out with Strength or Escape Artist checks). Creatures entering the web after it's been cast is an unusual situation, but I think your inclination is correct - they are entangled and must make Strength or Escape Artist checks to move, just as if they'd been caught in it and made their Reflex save.

Oh sure you can, you just need the 5 different splatbooks that you can combine prestige classes and feats and alternate class features from to make it possible.

no. a player can only do as much extra damage as they sacrifice from their base attack bonus up to their max. Essentially just swinging wildly.

is the bard rubbish

Yes...yes it is. It trys to do too many things at once and fails horribly at doing so.

Does the sorcerer work

As well as the the wizard works.

Is the fighter class unbalanced

Yes... unbalanced in the direction of sucking. At higher levels the figther can barely keep up with the cleric, druid, wizard, and basically any other class with spells.

Do buff spells work better now or in the past.

Buff spells are always usefull...especially if casted by a cleric.

Is it not possible, at least, that the other players may need to simply cowboy up and play better characters? I find it very silly to suggest that a player should do anything other than make the best possible character they can. I think we can all agree on the following:

1) Adventurers are regularly faced with life-threatening situations.

2) Adventurers don't want to die.

It seems to me that if you accept those two premises as true, then from a realism standpoint your character should either always try to maximize his contribution to the party, or should have plans for early retirement.

As it turns ot some players like to play interesting characters over power hungry, "I've got to control every thing cause I think I am better than everyone else." players. Like I have a player who plays a shadow caster, not really the best class to do anything that is really all that usefull in most situations, but it definatly is interesting to see how he plays the character.

just make the feat a metamagic feat for all classes and no prerequisites
that increases the spell level by 1.

Which is why i have swithed from random rolling to point buy for stats.

The real problem i have is that when there is one character doing all the fighting it takes away some of the fun from the other players. Like dealing out alot of damage at a low level and killing the would be boss in a single round alone.

I like to DM a fairly “free roam” game. Meaning, I have no problem in letting people use any D&D books they have as long as I have at least heard of them. But I always have this one player that even if I put restrictions on always seems to have a horribly broken character, whether it be a +20 on a skill check at level 4 some how, or doing obscenely large amounts of damage at low level, and also builds obviously horribly broken builds, like anything with the Goliath. This is really more of a rant but does anyone else have this problem?
