My favorite? Multi. Why be just one when you can be a little of two? Or three....
Although if I had to pick, Scout. Skill monkey that can hold his own so long as he keeps from being pinned down. And from 1-5th, you don't need to worry about getting a full attack anyway.

My vote seems to go in the Other category, no matter what I choose.
My all-time favorite is the swashbuckler (or as in 2nd Ed., a really tricked out fighter). My favorite right now is a dragon shaman, though. Auras, spider climb, breath weapon, AND a decent 2nd string fighter...skills? Who needs skills when you can use a breath weapon?
As for core classes, though, I have played rogues most often. Rangers are a lot of fun too, especially if you focus entirely on their bow prowess...and aim for the Order of the Bow Initiate prestige class.

Thief!! I mean, Rogue! Always been my favorite class, even back in 1st edition days.
Cleric and Paladin tie for next favorite. I used to hate Clerics, then, like Heathy, got stuck playing them )'cause no one else wanted to). Eventually, I learned to really enjoy that class.
Never liked Magic Users/Wizards. Appreciate them when played by others, but never been a big fan.

hehe you mean like compost? hehe who lets you play a shambling mound?

Cleric, or maybe Psion. I love spellcasting, but I dislike some of the clunky restrictions like spellbooks, codes of conduct, arcane spell failure, etc.
Cleric has it all:
- Want to play a fighter? Cleric of the god of war.
- Want to play a thief? Cleric of the god of thieves.
- Want to play a magic-user? Cleric of the god of magic.
Etc., etc.

I have to go with Rogue. All the way back to Red Box D&D I had a fondness for the sneaky lil' scamps, and I feel like 3.x was very good to them (me gusta Sneak Attack muy mucho mas que Backstabbing).
However, I have just come off of a multi-year long campaign where I was the resident skill monkey and sneak thief, so I'm thinking that I'll be passing on that character type for awhile.

I just don't think I can pick a real favorite...there's been so many great PCs, NPCs, and villains down through my years of every class, and there's great flavor and power potential for basically all of them. I guess if you held a gun to my head and said vote, I'd pick cleric -- the first character that I played in my original group. But that's more of a sentimental than a 3.5/d20/OGL answer.

In D&D BECMI/RulesCyclopedia, my favourite character ever was a cynic thief 'Punisher-style' specialized in killings (he used almost exclusively Move Silently/Hide in Shadows/Hear Noises, and dual-wielded two Longswords at Grand Mastery level), so I would say:
Rogue.
(better yet, a multiclass Rogue/Fighter)
But I have a personal love for Sorcerers (KABOOM!!!), Monks (Hadouken! what, they still don't have it? meh...), and Paladins (it's so HARD to roleplay them in a meaningful way that when you succeed is satisfying to the utmost).

Cleric. I mean, I have all the power in the party. Someone mentioned it earlier, but really, do you want the cleric mad at you?
I mean, sure, he could heal you while you were conscious...but you made him made at dinner last night so he's gonna whack this kobold and THEN stabilize you.
If you're lucky he'll heal you awake again...
(And if you are using the Book of Experimental Might healing rules...you don't even have to heal them, they just touch you and its all good! It leads to even more jokes then the standard "I want the cleric to touch me" does.... )

It does like 3D6 damage with a ranged touch attack.
I know, but sadly it's not Monk-exclusive... any character can use it, draining 2 Stunning Fist attempts.
Plus, 3d6 as a 'move action to charge, standard action to fire' is... lame (IMHO), although it's a force effect.
