The wizard nods and casts the silence spell. The catfolk and Gorthug wait on the floating disk as Tina hovers it into position.

Perception: 1d20 + 18 - 10 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 18 - 10 + 5 = 23

Through all of this, Cinder sleeps fitfully, twitching once, but not waking. Then a slashing noise, a bang of an explosion, and Tina's stab all happen at once.

Fort against Gorthug: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

The deep slash in his neck, combined with the other injuries, is too much for the dragon to withstand and his lifeblood spills out on the floor of Lucian's old study. For the moment, none of the adventurers are brave enough to come in to check what happened. Gathered into a small pile Cinder slept on are the remaining valuables of Lucian's study.

914 xp.

What about Ripper? Stealth team or no?

Tina, I suppose that is partially true, maybe?

Cinder eyes Tina narrowly. "Well get those goblins in line. Tell them that if they have any doubts, they can come complain to me directly. Or I'll come deal with them. Now get out of here!" Cinder growls and yawns slightly.

Who else wants to be on stealth team?

Cinder would have to roll negatives on a d20 to believe that bluff...

Cinder squints his eyes at Tina and growls deeply. "What are you playing at? Why have you tried to lie to me!?" Black smoke begins curling up from his flared nostrils. He turns to the goblin. "Slave! Tell me what is going on here!" The goblin yelps in surprise and darts back around the corner, running as fast as she can. Cinder roars and walks right up to Tina's face. "Why are you lying and why are my goblins disobeying!?"

Lying to him will not be easy so you might need to be very creative...

GM screen:

Stealth: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
Asleep on a 71+: 1d100 ⇒ 43
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31

Tina and the goblin head off to visit Cinder. They very quietly poke their head around the corner into his lair. Cinder is awake and bellows "Have you come to pay homage to me, my goblin servant!?" The goblin looks to Tina for ideas.

Cinder eyes Snowball carefully. "Your tougher than you look but it seems you have learned a lesson and fate decrees you live another day. Take the doll and get out of my sight!"

GM screen:

Sense motive: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (11) + 18 = 29
Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Cinder sees Cindy and sniffs her, making her feel the heat from his nostrils. Then he shrugs "Got broken in the fight. Maybe she'll leave later..." He turns his back toward the tunnel and begins scraping metal coins into a pile in the corner.

GM screen:

Sense motive: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36

Cinder doesn't buy Piedmontina's lie for one minute. "No!" he barks sharply. "Leave her there!"

Snowball, let's assume it's three rounds later and you are awake at 4 hp right now.

Cinder ignores the white dragon until she blasts him with icy breath. Then he turns in a rage and unleashes his own breath on her!

Cinder reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
So Cinder takes 2*1.5=3 damage.

Dam: 8d10 ⇒ (9, 4, 3, 4, 1, 6, 2, 2) = 31
Snowball reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

A cloud of fire knocks the white dragon out of the air and she falls lifeless to the ground.

So Snowball takes 31*1.5=46 damage, putting her at -11 but not dead yet.

Cinder turns to the rest of you. "You have chosen much better than this one. Leave me for now."

If anyone noticeably moves to help Snowball:

Cinder growls "Leave that one to her own devices... She chose poorly..."

You could try to do something sneakily, fight Cinder, leave Snowball, etc. What do you do?

Cinder growls again and smoke pours out of his nostrils. "Right now, my orders are that all of the valuables be piled here. In my room." He gestures toward the middle of Lucian's study. "Including that magic cloak."

How do you guys respond?

The limit is that it has to be one of the listed lesser minor wondrous items, which I think cap out at 3800 K gp.

Xeria's argument was very good so I'll let her aid count double.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 2 + 2 = 23
Diplomacry: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 16

Piedmontina and Xeria make good arguments but are unlucky to be dealing with a particularly stubborn, egotistical dragon. Cinder chuckles and shakes his massive head. "No no no... I'll run this place and change it how I want. You will all work for me or get roasted. And you'll help fill in the little tunnels and widen others. And you..." he jerks his head at Tina "can take care of the zombies."

Cinder shakes his large, scaled head on his lithe neck and you hear a deep rumbling from his chest. "You're terribly mistaken, little thing" he growls. "I'm in charge here now, and you will all do whatever I say. Everything here belongs to me." He indicates the room and you individually with his snout.

You hear a clomping coming from down the hall. The red dragon, Cinder, comes squeezing around a corner and eyes the lot of you. His eyes narrow. "Where's Lucian?"

GM screen:

Fire!: 6d10 ⇒ (6, 8, 3, 5, 4, 7) = 33
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 6 = 20

As Goldslip approaches the heated chamber, a massive burst of flame erupts toward her but she is almost entirely covered and dodges the worst of it. She is still quite seared (16 fire damage before resistance) but she heals very rapidly. "Leave me alone..." the red dragon grumbles fiercely.

He might need some convincing as he's in a horrible mood...
