"Taking advantage of the children?" Chiba's ultimate loyalty was to the leaders of the Society themselves, but today those leaders had sent the ninja to the Silver Crusade, and the Silver Crusade had sent them to assess Auntie Baltwin. Thus, while it was due to a combination of moral factors and loyalty rather than simply the former, Chiba shared Pooka's great concern over whether or not the children were being used as slaves. "We cannot allow an operation like that to continue. Though hopefully, through a combination of our diplomatic and stealth abilities, we will be able to assess her character without much trouble."

Once Chiba actually met the woman, however, only two words ran through his mind.

Oh dear.

He gratefully accepted the potion, smiled and nodded when appropriate, and was generally as polite as someone could be without rolling a Diplomacy check for it, but that didn't stop him from feeling slightly awkward at having such an old lady... Well, he felt awkward. I'll leave it at that.

"You are far too kind, Ms. Baltwin. I can feel the fever leaving me already, and my wounds are well-treated. The children under your case must be exceptionally lucky to have you." Whether or not that was true still remained to be seen, but given that the woman had healed his wounds and cured his disease instantly, the ninja felt flattery was appropriate. Though hopefully it wouldn't reinforce her affections!

I'm really sorry it took me so long to post, and a semi-short one at that. I've been extremely busy lately, but I'll definitely stick to at least one post per day. Have to keep things moving!

The ninja smiled at Pooka's response, appreciating his recognization that hard work was important where martial skill was concerned. "Then perhaps you are more of a ninja than you know. Martial skill through discipline and training - the key to success in many parts of Tain Xia. I do admire the bond you've formed with Luna. While I can throw a shruiken with a moderate degree of skill, I likely couldn't train a hound as you have. Not if my life depended on it."

Chiba allows the rest of the party to do the talking. Diplomacy wasn't his strongsuit, and Pooka and Valya seemed to be doing a great job. After they were done collecting information, he let them know what he thought of Auntie Baltwin.

"A noisy orphanage supplying liquor. Does that sound right to everyone?" It sounded strange to Chiba, but he'd never run an orphanage before. "Though it is good she is healing the children, and perhaps finding them work. I hope she is not using them as unpaid labor for her own gain."

Once he noticed the women questioning the eccentric salesman, Chiba scowled and quietly let the party know. "We are still being followed. The same two women and one man. They just questioned the man we finished speaking with ourselves."

Chiba, along with Pooka, would remain alert as they traveled to the orphanage.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

"I studied at a dojo in Tian Xia." the ninja said, "It is difficult to speak its name in this tongue, but I believe it translates loosely to 'Winds of Desolation.' In a way I was a nintern from birth - though that was not the term they used - and would still be now had I not desired freedom from their questionable ethics. It is why I fled Tian and became a Pathfinder. They would not dare target an organization so powerful as the Pathfinder Society."

While the ninja wasn't exactly sure what the gnome had saying, the smile he gave Twitnit as he accepted the gift made it clear he understood the gesture. "Thank you, Twitnit." Chiba said, obviously appreciating the gift despite how serious his demeanor usually was, "This will help keep my mind off the pain." The human took a bite... It was good! Quite good, in fact. For a few moments, the pain in his leg didn't bother him quite as much.

"Thank you, Ollystra. I am glad my injury can serve a greater purpose." If Auntie Baltwin proved to be a good caretaker, she would have no trouble aiding a man with a disease as relatively simple as filth fever. If she did not, Ollystra herself would have no trouble curing him. "Mild discomfort is a small price to pay for a method of immediately discerning Auntie Baltwin's kindness. Especially considering we're delivering her medical supplies." If she didn't know how to use them, or otherwise was stingy in giving them out for their proper purposes, they would know right away by how she reacted to Chiba.

Chiba will also take 20 on perception as he walks.

Chiba also noticed the women keeping an eye on their group, having decided to keep an eye out as they walked to their next destination after what he'd spotted earlier. It seemed Pooka had noticed them as well!

"I believe they were, Pooka. I wonder why they've followed us for such a distance." Where they waiting to set up an ambush, the ninja wondered? They seemed far too nice for that, and one certainly wouldn't have waved to the Halfling if that was their goal! Perhaps it would remain a mystery.

"I am glad to meet you, Ollystra. I too am honored to serve such a necessary and righteous cause." He then let the woman answer Pooka's question, as knowing the rumors they were to investigate would make their mission a great deal easier. Once he had the change to speak again, he inquired as to how he might find a cure for his infected bite wound. "M'lday, before we embark upon this mission, there is something I must ask of you. While in service to the Society, I'm afraid we ran afoul of a trio of Dire Rats. I was injured quite badly by their bites, and believe one of them may have become infected. Would you mind if I sought healing within the cathedral before we set out to the orphanage?"

Chiba sips the juice and munches the cookies quietly, grateful at the pleasant reception they'd received but unable to fully enjoy it due to his injuries. At least they'd all been paid well for nearly being chewed to death! And Twitnit seemed to be having a fantastic time.

"Thank you, Mr. Karela. You are too kind."

Glancing down at his wounds, the ninja grimaced. Those vermin had really done a number on his legs. "You are right, Pooka. My bite wounds are clear severe. I should seek medical attention immediately. That it coincides with our next destination is simply good luck." Even in the face of probable illness, Chiba maintained his to-the-point manner of speaking. Apparently a ninja never stops being a ninja, even he's injured!

"Would any object to my taking taking the bottle of acid? I believe I might be able to utilize it in combat."

After overcoming his surprise as a trio of gigantic, diseased rats burst forth from the planks below his feet, Chiba turned his attention to dispatching the vermin endangering their mission. He readied his Wakizashi for a strike, having already been bitten and chewed upon by the vile rodents. He did not become a Pathfinder to die in a rotting warehouse!

Attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

After the rats are handily defeated, the ninja assists the rest of the party in moving the crate to a more secure location. "Should we open the crate here?" Chiba asks, "I personally am eager to complete this task before any other complications appear."

Perhaps the warehouse would indeed be a better place for me to assist." Chiba replied, "I will return to the warehouse and tie off the rope. Valya or Hans can move the crane. Their strength likely dwarfs my own."

Once the ninja was back on the dock, he would quickly reenter the warehouse and grab the crane's hook. He would then wait for Pooka to get the boat back in position, and (walking at about half the speed he normally would to avoid disrupting any of the planks) he would carefully move toward the object of their mission and attach the rope to the crate.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

I think I may not need to roll Acrobatics since Chiba moved at half speed while on the planks, but at least I rolled well in case I'm wrong!

"I would not mind at all, in fact." Should the crate fail, the boat would be in place to catch the crate. If the crane carried it to safety, they would have gained valuable knowledge in rowboat piloting. It was a plan without any downsides. Chiba liked those plans.

The ninja would follow Pooka out of the warehouse, aid him in untying the boat, and otherwise assist him in enacting their plan.

Let me know if Chiba should roll any Aid Another checks to help Pooka

With the building clear of hostile elements and well-lit thanks to the Gnomish Sorcerer, Chiba set his eyes on the object of their first task. Simply walking up to the crate and attempting to take it would likely destroy the contents within.

"The boat outside?" The ninja considered that for a moment. "An excellent suggestion. The slightest touch would send our objective plummeting into the water. If a boat is resting underneath it, that could play to our advantage." The ninja wasn't proficient in the art of sailing, but he was certainly skilled at catching falling objects. He would still be able to help if something went awry.

I think the fast pacing (and how this PbP is being run in general) is great as well, and I would love to get a character to third level!

"It would seem you are." It was difficult to tell due to the way his outfit obscured his face, but it sounded like Chiba was smiling. "Very good find, Tiefling." The door was opened quietly, and the ninja prepared himself to move inside.

"I'll scout ahead. I recommend we employ the darkness to our advantage."

Stealthily entering...: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Perhaps the man could have been stealthier as he entered the warehouse, looking around for any smugglers or items of interest, but at least he didn't trip and fall flat on his face.

I'll do the same as Pooka, if entering the building doesn't begin an encounter. Chiba's perception is 25 when taking 20.

Perception to notice a way inside: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Chiba also spent a few moments scanning the docks for discreet entrances, also examining the door and windows for any clear way inside. Unfortunately, his search came up short. He didn't notice any way the group could stealthily enter the building. Some ninja he was!

"I would be inclined to agree, Pooka. I haven't discovered any means of entry myself, meaning that person likely isn't me. Unless that boat could be utilized somehow."

If a means of entry is found, Chiba will roll a stealth check before entering to do so as quietly as possible. He'll also roll an Aid Another check to help if anyone comes up with an idea on how to get inside involving a check.

Chiba remains mostly silent as the group approaches their first destination. But a good ninja is always aware of his surroundings...

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

...and he was no exception. After the women slipped back into the crowd, but before they reached the shop, Chiba shared what he'd noticed with his fellow Pathfinders. There is a chance we are being followed. Two women, neither of them possessing obvious ill-intent, had their eyes on us for a moment before disappearing into the crowd. They did not look armed or dangerous, but we should remain on our guard.

The man inside the shop did nothing to improve Chiba's current feeling that something strange was going on. Pathfinders were known to loot artifact from abandoned strongholds, and the ninja's loyalty to the Grand Lodge meant he took the Venture-Captain's orders to help this man as seriously as possible, but they were explorers and treasure hunters first and foremost. Not thieves.

Sense Motive to learn whether stealing the parcel would really be helping the Society: Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Unfortunately, his intuition was silent on whether this man could be trusted. Instead of making any predictions himself, he nodded subtly at Pooka in support of his plan.

The second of the Pathfinders to arrive would be the ninja, a tall, agile looking man wearing a shozoko weighted down with equipment. Small pouches filled with shuriken, a flash powder charge, bladed weapons... For a warrior of the shadow, he wasn't exactly inconspicuous! Only the man's face had been left visible by his outfit, and even that was partly obscured. His excitement at their mission was clearly visible, however.

"Pleased to meet you all." The man said to the group, bowing politely. "I am Chiba. I can already tell we're going to make a good team."

With his introduction complete, the ninja turned his attention to the map of Absalom they'd been given by the Venture-Captain. The Halfling had already formulated a plan, another sign their group would be a formidable one. "An efficient strategy, Pooka. Chiba commented, smiling, "Starting at the docks and working through tasks as we go would save a lot of time. You have my vote."

I feel pretty much the same way! Mostly clear on the rules as far as characters go, but still not 100% sure how the credit and chronicle sheets are done.

I can't wait to run the module either! I'm also new to PFS, but the idea is extremely cool and I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. :)

I'd be game for Veteran's Vault! I've read the PFS rules, and I'm absolutely capable of posting once per day (or more often, if needed).
