Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to drop out of this. Sorry, guys, but I can't really commit right now because of the move and some other things

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Oh my...so much stuff has happened while I was away. Sorry, I just moved so I was without internet for a while. I'm all caught up now, though! I just can't quite decide where I want Chance to go. How're the parties currently split up?

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Chance, who had been scribbling in one of his journals, finishes and holds it up for everyone to see. On the page, a very rough sketch of the decapus.

"It looked sort of like this," he said as Welkin cowered by his side, still frightened by the encounter.

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Seeing that his friend had saved Welkin, Chance began to retreat as well. He follows alongside Dieredon, casting light on the whistle he had retrieved.

"Thanks, Dieredon. I owe you one."

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

This is how I imagined Dieredon looked in that post

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 = 23: Chance Will save vs fear
1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 9: Welkin Will save vs fear

Welkin's tail falls between his legs as he whimpers, cowering at the sight of the colossal creature. "Welkin! Get out of there now!" Chance shouts, fumbling around for his whistle.

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Deftly dodging the attacks from the monsters, and with the ones he doesn't dodge bouncing off of his magically enhanced fur, Welkin keeps cooperating with Dieredon to flank the goblins. Unfortunately, the creatures are too quick for him, and his bites meet only air.

1d20 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 13: Welkin to-hit

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Crap, I can't believe I forgot that. Sorry ><;;

But about the spears...

Throwing a light or one-handed weapon, for example a shortspear or a dagger, is a standard action. However, throwing a two-handed weapon, for example a normal spear or a net, is a full-round action. Although it's physically thrown with one hand, the amount of effort it takes to do the throwing is going to be greater than that of throwing a shortspear or a dagger.

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Oh, and bout the action it takes to throw a spear, it depends. Are you using a spear or a shortspear? Shortspear is standard action, spear is full-round action. Hope this clears any confusion up

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Poseus, you can't take a 5-foot step in a round that you move :>

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Chance waves at the ones coming to the rescue. "Poseus! We're being attacked by some sort of dog-octopus-like creatures," he replies, turning back to the battle. He moves up a bit more to make it easier for everyone to hear him, scanning the battlefield. "Try not to get surrounded, and try to pick them off one by one as quickly as possible!" He waves his hand around and mumbles something, pointing his finger at Welkin. He whispers something then finishes the spell.

Welkin barks at the creature, circling around it slightly to position himself on the opposite side of it from Dieredon, then lunges in to snap at it. If the attack meets, Welkin will try to pull at the creature to drag it toward the ground.

Chance moves a bit closer to the fight, then casts Message to give Welkin the command to flank.

Welkin takes a 5-foot step to circle around the creature, making a bite attack. If the attack succeeds, he will make a Trip combat maneuver

Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

I would also like to point out that once you have a +1 BAB, you can draw a weapon (and thus, I think it would be fitting to rule that easily-accessible wands and scrolls) as a part of a move action. You can also ready a shield as part of a move action as well like this.

Oh, and did Cara cast Entangle in an area where Welkin and Chance would need to make reflex saves?

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Ouch...dem rolls.

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

As the group arrives on land, Chance places a hand on Welkin's head and mutters a few arcane words. There is a small magical sound as the invisible armor coats Welkin's fur. "Alright, boy, I'm depending on you to guard us," he says as pets Welkin once more and then stands up. Welkin walks over to Dieredon and stares at the dark water, on guard just as Chance told him to. Chance picks up a few pebbles and stuffs them into a fold of his clothing, beginning to cast light on each of them. "I'm not that great at fighting, but I'll try to make this fight as easy for you guys as I can."

Welkin is going to provide support to Dieredon.

Welkin combat info:
AC 18; HP: 11
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 plus trip
Trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Chance casted Mage Armor on Welkin, using up a level 1 slot. He has 3 left for today.
He will also start casting the cantrip Light on the stones and begin tossing them around the perimiter to lift the shroud of darkness around them.

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

"Woah, calm down, boy," Chance says, petting Welkin. It's just a drawing." Chance looks up at the drawing with a worried expression. It definitely isn't a drawing of anything he'd ever seen before. When Dieredon moves to Roan, and Chance gets Welkin calmed down, they move to follow.

1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 5 = 20 - Handle Animal

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Chance and Welkin follow behind Dieredon, trying to be as silent as possible. Chance keeps an eye out for anything behind them, since his concentration isn't very much needed up front. Welkin sticks close to Dieredon after Chance motions him forward, sticking close to the ground. He sniffs of the air, trying to make heads or tails of this new smell.

1d20 ⇒ 14 - Chance perception
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 - Chance stealth
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 - Welkin stealth

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

"Good timing, too. We just got the sheep across the bridge." Chance whistles for Welkin, and the wolf runs up to him. He flashes Elizabeth a smile of reassurance before taking on a more serious expression. "I don't know how much help I'll be, but I will give it my best."

"We're ready when you are. Lead the way."

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

I'd also like to point out that there is absolutely no difference between the words "fey" and "fay". "Fey" is just a variant spelling of "fay" and does not hold a different meaning. Same goes for "fae".
(Of course, the above does not hold ground if this is a purely in-universe thing. I'm referring to the words in OUR world.)

I also didn't realize you asked about where the Huldra would be. I assume she'd be a solitary creature. Most likely had a run-in with a traveler, which is when Chance was conceived.

If we ever run into her, it would be neat if she recognizes Chance and refers to him by his Sylvan name. If you wish to expand on her backstory, that's fine. I think it'd be cool if her backstory tied in with the old happenings of Woodbridge, and having Chance discover that would be fun to roleplay (and if you decide to keep it secret from us, it'd be fun for me to find out as well :3)

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Huldra

I'm pretty much recovered now, and it looks like something exciting is about to happen as well. I'll jump in once Cara comes to fetch me...if Cara comes to fetch me :P

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Well there are apparently Huldra in this world, and Chance could count as a Fey PC? :P

Not really, but he has fey blood. That's gotta count for something, right?

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

"Right." Chance nods at Dieredon and pets Welkin on the head before walking toward the two girls.

"Good evening, my two beautiful friends," Chance greets them with a friendly smile and a wave as Welkin sniffs of the ground near Dieredon. Despite his warmth of greeting, he wasn't particularly trying to hide his worry over the pool of blood. As he meets up with them, he allows his expression to fall into a more serious one. "Did you two happen to see anything unusual over here? There seems to have been an incident."

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

I'm sick currently, so that's why I haven't posted. You guys can go on without me and we'll just assume that Chance just kinda fades into the background until I get better. Sorry! ><

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

"It's fine, it's fine. It just gives me more of an excuse to come back tomorrow," Chance says in response to Dieredon's apology.

"Yes, I guess you could call me a scholar. I pursue the knowledge of nature." Chance replies, finishing up his cleaning. He puts his journal and ink back into his bag, making sure everything is secure. "No, no, not at all. This magic just comes naturally to me."

1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

"Yeah, I'll be in town tonight." Welkin's ears perk up just as Poseus glances around, and Chance pets him. "Now that you mention it, I think I did."

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

"WAGH!" As an arrow flies past Chance and sinks itself into the turkey, Chance jumps and turns to try to find the source. He scrambles out of the bush, pointing his quill at the area that the arrow came from, as if he were going to be able to defend himself with it. Seeing the elf, Chance's tense shoulders relax and he lets out a sigh.

"Dieredon, it's just you," he says, lowering the quill. He looks over at the turkey with a frown. "I was sketching that...agh! Perfect. I got ink on my cloak."

He moved back into the bush, picking up the overturned vial of ink, letting out a sigh of relief when he sees that he still has a bit left in it. He puts the stopper on it and begins cleaning up the spill using a bit of his magic.

Growl...
Welkin begins to growl as they leave the bush, and Chance notices that he is looking at Poseus.

"Welkin hush, he's hunting, not attacking." Chance pets the wolf's head as he goes back to cleaning his cloak with his magic. "I see you've brought a new friend, Dieredon," Chance began as he finished cleaning his cloak. He looks up at Poseus and gives a charming smile. "Chance Oakley, at your service!"

Male Human Feyblood (Sylvan) Sorcerer 1

Chance's eyes glint curiously as he jots down notes in one of his journals, carefully studying the behavior of the turkey in front of him. He had found a perfect spot to hide: just inside a small patch of bushes that have a makeshift window. It is just big enough to fit both himself and Welkin in it comfortably, and it still keeps them hidden from all sides. while the small "window" itself allows Chance to watch the turkey without having to move branches out of the way every time he wanted to look at it. Welkin is fast asleep, curled up beside Chance.

Oh! I misunderstood you, I didn't realize you were answering my question haha

I meant teaching him new tricks from the Handle Animal list. (Heel, Down, Stay, Fetch, etc) Since he's an animal companion, he gets bonus tricks that don't count toward the maximum of six that he can learn, which I've added in to his section on my character sheet already (only one so far), but I don't know how you want me to handle the other six.

Understood! I'll try to work myself in somewhere!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, but...

Being "connected to domestic animals" does not necessarily mean you're an animal lover. Here, let me go fetch my friend who raises animals for a living and he'll write you a 5-page paper on how much he despises pigs. :P

Besides, I feel that he'd be more interested in wild animals since they're not what he normally sees, and therefore study-worthy. Also, you can't forget to note that his bloodline says that his ties to nature have more to do with creatures. I tried to work as much of his character sheet into the backstory as possible, which is why I chose a Huldra over something like a Nymph.

Perhaps I should have used a different term. Instead of animal-lover, it could be nature enthusiast, with a focus on animals?

Well, I've updated him to be more of an animal-loving nature-focused scholar character, so feel free to check out the profile for all the changes I've done. Let me know if there's anything else I need to change.

Also, how would I go about teaching Welkin more tricks?
