About Challenger_M&M
Background
Corporal Harry Higgins was a British infantryman involved in the retaking of the Falkland Islands from the Argentines. During the battle to retake Stanley, Harry was hit in the neck by an Argentine round and he was paralyzed from the neck down. He was taken back to England and resided in a military hospital where his needs were tended to.
Given his condition, Harry lapsed into serious fits of depression. His condition was inoperable, and left him incapable of doing anything. For a fit 23 year old who had loved soldiering this was hell.
At this time, Porton Down was beginning implementation on a super soldier project. They needed a test subject, but owing to the risks inherent in the project they needed something both extremely loyal to the UK, and desperate. Harry fit the bill.
He was transported to the lab and underwent an extensive series of surgeries and cybernetic implants. Subdermal armor, micro musculature boosting machines, an artificial neural net, and improved vision systems were all implanted.
The process was very arduous and unpleasant. It took months on the operating table, and months more in rehab to learn to use his new body. However the experiment was every bit as successful as they hoped. His new skin was almost as resistant as the Chobhams armor on the new Challenger tanks. His strength was enhanced to an incredible degree. The UK now had the super soldier it needed to keep up in the shadow cold war of super agents.
Dubbed 'Challenger' after the latest tank model, Corporal Higgens was sent on many covert missions for the UK government, which will some day come to light when the Official Secrets Act finally allows it, but for now, he is completely lacking in fame.
With the emergence of a new Golden Heroes team, the UK government decided they needed a liaison in the organization, and they made it a requirement for the team to operate above board in the UK, they would have to take their man.
Thus Challenger stepped into the light as a superhero.
Appearance
Challenger is not really used to this whole superhero business, having been employed as a covert operative ever since being endowed with his powers. Hence he lacks the flashy spandex costume. He generally dresses in sturdy workman's clothes and looks like a very stocky, but pretty average joe with brown hair and a neatly trimmed beard.
Owing to comic book mechanics, while his clothes often do not fare well in combat, strategically placed sections always remain so as not to violate the comic code.
