The city of Aian, a place of great promise and of great fragility, lies at the southern border of the lands known as The Steadfast, a region loosely allied under nine flags. The Nine Rival Kings have a wary peace; they are held together by a deep fear of the unknown and by imposing geographical boundaries. The Nine are comfortable enemies. Historically balanced in power & position, they keep one another busy by fighting petty & timeless squabbles. It is from in and around these lands that you all emerge, each dislodged from the comforts of home by forces that at once unite us and leave us alien. Forces that enable us to tell our stories, and that urge us to weave the tapestry of our life from the fibers we can seize from the chaos around us.

You all enter Aian from different roads. But forces in the city conspire to drive you together. Large machinations are at work, seeking to disrupt the balance of power that has long kept the lands of the Nine distinct. The rulers are not content with the petty squabbles of their fathers, each is grasping for power and resources to upset the status-quo. Resist or submit, change is coming to The Steadfast, will you sit passively on the sidelines of history, or will you rise up to claim your place?

Greetings Travellers,

The Play-by-Post (PbP) format is relatively new to me, but it seems like a natural fit for the type of campaign I like to run. I am running a table-top game of Numenera, and have gotten so hooked that I am now seeking to begin a separate narrative campaign with a few of you internet denizens. The campaign that I am running is based on the content from the Numenera Rulebook and the Ninth World Guidebook mostly, although the story will be one of our mutual construction.

I envision the campaign beginning with some training wheels, as I learn the PbP format and we all become more familiar with the Numenera system. But, I feel confident that before long we will be flowing free and clear, trodding paths through the newly-virgin soil of the Ninth World.

I am modelling my PbP format from Fabain Benavente, and as such these next two paragraphs are taken directly from his recruitment page.

The pace will be about a minimum of four to five turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like defense actions, initiatives, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to post at least once EVERY day (more is better) so if you can't meet that schedule, please do not bother applying to the game. Numenera really lends itself well for good, descriptive, storytelling so that’s what I am going for.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, d) portrait or picture, and e) crunch. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. I don’t think there will be much competition for character spots given the rules, world, and my particular style of PBP. However, I want well developed PCs with regards to appearance, background (we’ll work on PC connections once players are selected), and personality. Crunch should be drawn only from official Numenera products (I don’t have The Strange or the Cypher System books). I will roll for your cyphers, oddities, etc. You may use the character here to format your fluff (not yet developed in sample) and crunch.

I would love to begin the game by May 16th, 2016, applications will be accepted until we have a full party of 3-5.

Please reach out with questions and suggestions, I look forward to leading a few of you through our collective imagination in The Ninth World Turns!
