Thanks for your interest. I hope you like it!

Sounds a lot like The Belgariad by David Eddings.

The Will & The Way.
Love it.

Waskally is a genius player AND a prolific poster btw.

I will try to find a link for the download later tonight :)

Pretty sure we won't see Opi again ... pretty sure this will thrive with or without Ceneth too :)

Was pretty psyched when we started though.

ah ... got it ... fair enough

Did I miss a post? Where did the "opinions" thing come from?

Ceneth outlined a few possible next steps, as he sees them, and wanted buy-in from the group. Where did talking about their lives come from? He wasn't trying to draw people out ... he was trying to get "yeah, that sounds great, let's do that"

Once the wording is finalized, Spectre folds the note and puts it in a blank envelope. They doff the bizarre contraption from their head and twist the various protrusions until it becomes little more than a lump of metal bearing a precisely engraved image of a tribex. With Zoa's help, they drip wax from a candle to seal the envelope and press down with their tool to mark the seal. Turning their traveler's any-tool into a masterwork tool for Linguistics checks to create forgeries.

Linguistics: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 2 = 31 Zoa Linguistics Aid Another: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
It was enough to make a few forgeries of Mr. Big's symbol. Almost perfectly, but good enough to find his shop in Sharn.

So then after everyone is settled, Ceneth can take the message to the shop, and return the next day at noon as Properity indicated in the note ... and in the meantime, hire them a chef because he is still hungry.

Skyfall looks around for a cocktail shaker ...

"Probably just the right person to ask: Spectre, what's your poison? Go sweet or go home? There's an apple liquor from Darguun ... Apple Martini's are all the rage in Sharn AND it's a fad that's even making it's way to Stormreach! Crazy, I know. Goldeneye ... you don't even have to drink it, but can I make you one? Just to hold and look handsome with?"

EltonJ wrote:
Okay, so we've stalled in RP. Anyone want to try to get RP going again?

Yes -- we have 2 requests to attach the coach to the Lightning Rail; Ceneth's & Prosperity's. Let's do it. Let's get to Sharn.

If Cari doesn't drink on the job ... well ... so be it.
It's a long damn way to Sharn.

Opi poured herself a glass of whiskey and knocked it back in distinctly unchildlike manner, creating something of a weird visual.

Is there vodka over there? Something sweet?

I coud use a martini ...

Ceneth takes a look at his companions ... and also takes a deep breath

"I think it might be my turn for an introduction, possibly even more so if the conversation turns to Sharn. I know I said my name earlier, I am sure I said d'Thuranni with that. But when I said "Assassin of Skyway" that was literal. There simply aren't that many practiced fliers in our line of work, and in Sharn, there is no getting around it.

Many believe that are 'safe' the higher they go, and in principle, that can be true. So I trained around that. It isn't simply that I have flying magic ... I fuse with the Spirit Avariel. I can always fly. There are times, before they died, targets thought they could dispel my flight; they can't. Once I found we could jump across long distances, I made sure I practiced enough to cast the same spell magically. So like our telescope on a smaller scale, I do not even have to get all that close to my target before teleporting to them.

My spells focus mainly on keeping my eidolon healthy. We are incredibly strong, incredibly fast, and on top of that I frequently use Alter Self to seem different, or more pleasing, to disguise myself.

and yes, I have worked for many many years as a coutesan in Stormreach. Both the serve myself AND to serve my House. I love my work."

Happy & Safe New Year to each of you!

Team Breland,

In spite of what a trying year it has been, I wanted to wish all of you happy & safe holidays. Love whoever you can while you can, it's a great thing.

Best,
CENNETH

Just to level set, we don't actually have dossiers on each other, not would GQ have shared our more interesting secrets, correct?

Like, only he would know Cari is a changeling.
Only he would know that Ceneth is a "Paid Companion"
That stuff ...

Just wanted to make sure I had that right.

Opi wrote:

Yeah. Opi's fairly good at making stuff explode. And, amusingly, no one is likely to realize it was her when someone is suddenly engulfed in murder fire. Since the mage will be crying and wailing in the corner you'll have to make a really good Sense Motive to suspect her of the constant detonations.

But yeah, she got 'Null' because she doesn't really have much of a personality of her own anymore.

I'm sure GQ loves her anyway ... Ceneth does and he doesn't even know her yet (mostly because she wanted to go have dinner)

Lambda-42 wrote:

This is an actual thing I was taught in the Army, btw. Never thought I'd use it anywhere else, lol.

(it's discussed in f. under this link.

Science is real!

;)

But again, I would hardly have suggested setting a fire without an accelerant (and I know they teach THAT in the army too)
PLUS
Even though she didn't pick the code name I would have picked for her
(the Psychic Orc Evoker ... yeah, I would have picked Thunderball)
But Opi can lay down fire magic like no one's business.
So this group starting a fire should NEVER be a problem.

"In that case dear Prosperity, since OUR numbers would be the same, I will use the number assigned to me by GQ, which I will also not repeat."

Prosperity Jann wrote:

Got it! Of course no worries if real life things are getting in the way of posting, but when you get the chance let me know if I detect any auras from GQ.

Spectre relaxes slightly as their teammates show no signs of being disguised or polymorphed. Before leaving they add, "I might ask any of you for a confirmation number at some point in the future to verify your identity. Let's say... nineteen plus the number of letters in your code name. And yes, Null counts as four, don't try to get clever. Please figure out your number now and remember it, because if you can't provide it when asked I will assume you've been impersonated or possessed. I hope you'll do the same for me."

"Loving the numbers ... maybe pronouns would work for you? Does anyone else besides the team know that Zoa identifies as 'she' because, with love, most of us couldn't tell by looking. Test #1 could be calling her 'him'. Similarly, Test #2, if any of us were to address you using a gender-based pronoun, and you didn't correct us, I would be willing to grab you, fly you up 100 feet, and drop you on your head."

Prosperity Jann wrote:

Awesome, thanks! Spectre accepts the vial of blood from GQ with an appreciative nod.

As they reach the door though they pause, frowning. "Oh my. Civilian life has left me quite sloppy indeed." They produce a series of hissing sounds that seem directed toward Zoa, who is once more visible only as a head protruding from the bag at their side.
** spoiler omitted **
Then Spectre chants an incantation, pressing a thumb and forefinger briefly to their eyes. Casting detect magic. They turn slowly in place, carefully scanning the entire group, including GQ. They'll take 10 on all the Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft checks, since we're not in combat and there's no point trying to sort through dozens of rolls. Hmm... auras present of course... over twenty, some strong... and... Goldeneye's clear... Skyfall's clear... illusion magic from Null's clothing, but what about... Opi, is your hat of disguise currently active? And Cari or GM, either of you know whether Cari's Minor Shape Change (Su) would have a transmutation aura constantly when she's in a form that's not her natural one, or only when she's actively switching between forms? Finally, GM, what auras does Spectre detect from GQ or his gear? Or anything else in the room, for that matter. They get the school of each aura, and the properties of any item below CL 14.

So wait, can Zoa take a scent also, like a police dog sorta? If you let them sniff the blood, would that give them a bonus to perception? Just kinda wondered, I know they aren't a dog, but still.

EltonJ wrote:
"No, you won't," says GQ. "No engine or operator."

"But a secure car added to the line, brilliant, thanks chief; and we appreciate the invite, but Moonraker isn't wrong either, there will be food on the train as well. Let's get to it. We need to speak to the Quartermaster, correct?

"Thank you sir. I know they feed you well here, let's all go to the commissary, maybe have that chat Agent Null suggested."

"Sir: it's our own coach ... that will be mounted into normally routed Orien Lightning Rail routes? We don't get out own engine & operator do we?"

"GQ! When did the King order you to grow a sense of humour? Wow ..."That said, Ceneth smiles and nods his head rather deferentially

" 'Skyfall' ... I would say that 'you just can't make this stuff up' yet, someone did." GQ raises an eyebrow and gives just a touch of side-eye to the elf

"Well it's a new group, I wasn't sure they could handle Skyfall-69 ... or that much wit from the boss."

Ceneth is clearly impressed AND amused

He was observing a phenomenon that other vintners throughout California have been witnessing repeatedly over the past few years: Grapevines are natural fire breaks. And though they are not capable of stopping a fire like Kincade in its tracks, they may be saving structures and even lives.

Yeah ... I'm from CA, I totally get how fires work.

Was this a linguistics issue? Semantics?
I said torch, a few hundred square feet.
Torch, the verb, not the noun.
I thought GM was pretty clear about the whole, theme and coolness thing.
Of course they would use an accelerant.
Of course it would be big and loud and flashy.

I feel like I missed a memo or watched the wrong movies.
I'm pretty familiar with how Bond works ...

Not sure what this was about.

Cari Delmire wrote:
"Or more likely, he'll run away while we waste time with petty arson. Lighting things on fire is not the solution to all our problems. She sighs. "Also, not that it matters, but grape vines are natural fire stops. They burn very slowly, if at all."She turns back to GQ. "I, at least, assume I was brought in to handle this with stealth."

"Hadn't planned for it to be petty, or natural for that matter. Vines are NATURAL fire stops, for sure. I wasn't proposing a natural fire at all."

"The point is to get the attention of our quarry, which we can do any way the team wants to really. But the principle of threatening something someone values to get their attention and to motivate them stands. If there is a better suggestion, I would probably listen to it. As yet, there isn't. The vineyard remains our best & most logical lead."

"and I never said we couldn't do recon, and I never said we couldn't 'sneak' and I never said we couldn't avail ourselves of other information prior to 'sending a message' either. I'm not sure where that assumption came from. LOL haven't done a lot of hunting? Running away is precisely what we want. We want him to feel unsafe, we want him to make bad decisions ... because right now, he's had 7 days to fortify himself, and yet we're still here discussing that you thought I wanted to throw torches in a field and wait for the wind to blow."

"GQ brought ALL OF US here for our talents ... stealth was probably ONE of those. Is it okay with you that GQ makes a few decisions? The King seems to think so."

"To be perfectly honest, I am focused on 2 things right now: my drink and my codename. After those are sorted, and Team PZ finishes their divinations, I think we head out to the vineyard."

"Wine sounds really good right now actually ..."

"The reality is this: either Monsieur Grande expects everything to go to hell, OR, he thinks there are things that won't. We can make sure he knows it all will. The odds are, he thinks there are boundaries. So If we show up and torch a few hundred square feet of pinot, just as an introduction, it's pretty likely someone will say something. THEN we can actually introduce ourselves!"

Lambda-42 wrote:
Lambda-42 glances between the organics as they bandy questions. The conversation bores it a bit. What was there to discuss? What reasons for motivation were necessary? The King called, and those loyal to him should answer. Of course, organics must have food, clothes, and a place to sleep, all of which must be bought. I suppose they must be given coin as compensation for their time, even when serving the king. I am pleased not to have such limiting needs. And better things to spend my coins on. "Perhaps refreshments for those who need them, while we wait?" the warforged says, finally.

"Cool name AND you're a visionary! Can't beat that; I've wanted a drink since I walked in here. Will you join us L42? I know you don't need to ..."

"and should we ask whose poor judgement it was to let this person so close to anything having to do with the King? This wasn't just 'any' stone in the network ... shouldn't House Sivis have provided their best & brightest? I'm more than a little surprised."

"Here's a little secret I can share with you, as a flier: 'UP' is almost never considered when security is put in place. It's almost always the best escape route."

"Anyone like Pinot Noir ... ?"

Ceneth takes off the glasses he has been wearing; the glowing runes in the irises of his eyes were as beautiful as they were unnerving

"We could certainly make him do the work for us."
Cen smiles: and the smile is a little unnerving too

"Then let's get it done ... I personally would also like to find the thief and eliminate them too."

[b]"Whoever knows the code of this stone can communicate to it, and depending on the protocols in place, an extraordinary amount of information could pour thru ... GQ, tell us where to start? Who had access to take this stone, we should 'speak' with them. Immediately."

"Due respect sir ... how is that possible?"
Ceneth looks more than a little bemused
"A speaking stone was stolen from the Citadel?"

Ceneth's smile is warm as he looks at the small dragon
"It's a pleasure to meet you Prosperity, and you Lady Zoa."
He turns to GQ and nods
"Good day to you GQ, glad to see you."

"Wow - so you already have a cool name, that's fantastic. I'm Ceneth ... Ceneth Tialaen d'Thuranni. My names are pretty basic, sadly. Pleased to meet you L42!"

"Only 3 of us 'did' names actually ... you are welcome to be "Warfarged" & "Dragonfriend" if you like. I had kind of been thinking maybe we'll get really cool code names, like Cipher-9 or Zed-double7: hope springs eternal, right?"

Where is LotR streaming anyway?
Does anyone know?

Okay! Watched MI-1 last night, time to make coffee and watch MI-2!

Ceneth sets his frame, and his eyes begin to glow as he summons Avariel into him

In 3 rounds he will be fused

Cari is disguised as her normal human face, what she thinks of as herself. She hopes she won't have to reveal her changeling identity to whoever these people are. I need to get back to Ardev. There are people there who need my help. Let's just get this over with."

"Hi, my name is Ceneth ... Ceneth d'Thuranni. Pleasure to meet you miss. I look forward to working with you."

Who's a guy gotta sleep with ...
... to get a drink around here?"

Cen probably didn't need a drink, he probably didn't need several. He might not need a barfight, might not need to hospitalize anyone either. But there were nights that felt like all of those could be a REALLY good idea.

It was one of those nights.
"Just one drink ..." isn't that what the humans always seem to say?

Crunch updated!

and Ceneth held back a ton of cash so that he can act like a bichota in case we need that (or case we need to blow off steam at the beginning)

and yes, let's just go there
it's pronounced KEHN-ihth when you are with Valenar elves
it's pronounced SIN-ehth when you are with Aerenal elves

and whether you call him Ken or call him Sin, both are pretty appropriate

Thank you!

Ceneth Tialaen d'Thuranni - Assassin of Skyway, Courtesan of Shadow

Ceneth is a Synthesist, who made a name for himself once he transfigured his fused eidolon to allow him to fly. Based in Sharn for years, he was focused like many on flight magic, but found a radically different path to the sky when he called on the primal power of elven flight, Avariel, and found that the magic joined to him. The relative safety provided by the floating island of Skyway was shattered, and the rogue house Thuranni gained a foothold it needed during the Last War.

Flying faster and faster as he refined Avariel’s evolutions, he offered additional "services" to his house. There were no other flying courtesans; there were no others who could come & go as discreetly as Ceneth anywhere. There wasn't any other member of the House who could simply fly to Stormreach on a moment's notice without an airship ... and there wasn't anyone whose magic made them as "strong & agile" as Ceneth either. Alter Self allowed for quite a palette of “service alternatives” too.

Ceneth dreams of greater and greater service to his Family: he wonders if he can push himself to manifest a Dragonmark one day.

Suitor: “What would you say is your language of love?”
Ceneth: “Venmo”

Crunh will be built out into profile ASAP.

I read about them on Archives of Nethys. I believe they were introduced in Ultimate Wilderness. They’re humanoid plant creatures made by Druidic ritual to serve as protectors of plants and as companions.
