Liberty's Edge

So what would the build out be in terms of feats, companion feats pursuing your advice on undersized mount?

Liberty's Edge

I picked the Heron because @ 7th level its Large and its STR is 23 which is strong enough to support an armored dwarf

Liberty's Edge

Yes it must be a dwarf - DM Mandate

The archetypes is great. You are giving up a key combat buff for a weaker one but you get a flying animal companion out of it.

Don't build a switch hitter. Build for range, mounted combat or melee and stick to it. You will be more effective. Keep a few of your spells for assisting people.

For a combat inquisitor = 17 or 18 in you main combat stat, 14 con, 14 wisdom. You can dump cha. For ranged don't dump your strength.

Feat point blank shot, precise shot, rapid shot, deadly aim, and manyshot are your path.

Thanks for the quick response .. any advice on domain?

Liberty's Edge

I am looking to attack and rain damage from above and swoop in to assist where necessary on the front lines and if possible provide ranged flank

If Sacred Huntsmaster is not a viable or sub-par option then other recommendations welcome.

Thanks

My BladeBound Magus acquired a Voonith ( Advanced ) companion during Book 4 of the Iron Gods Campiagn. The DM has said since this is an enlightened animal, if I take the Leadership Feat, I can have him add classes and be a cohort

I was looking a Bloodrager for him with the Blue Draconic Bloodline and then maybe Dragon Disciple later on due to his type and species ....

Does anyone have any suggestion to max out on his natural weapony and high Charisma and Strength and Dex?

Liberty's Edge

How and and where is that referenced? thanks

Liberty's Edge

My 10th Level Magus would like to put a continous Adjuring Step on his Swarmbane Clasp.

Per the RAW is the cost of that enchantment 20,000gp per the Chart 15-29 on page 550 in the PHB or is it 30,000 per the wording in the Adding New Abilities on page 553?

The followup question, is that consdiering the cost imposed by my caster level on a spell that does not change or get stronger the higher the caster is, wouldn't it just be better to hire a low lvel wizard ( Level 1-3 ) to cast Adjuring Step at a fraction of the cost?

Thanks all

Liberty's Edge

After doing some more research and weighing the options ... I have lected to choose these feats ongoing as they become availbe. Does anyone have any comments or crtiques on my choice?

Weapon Specialization
Penetrating Strike
Toughness
Iron Will
Extra Arcane Pool
Hammer the Gap

I meant use the Fighter's Variant Multiclassing, where you give up the feats you'd otherwise gain at levels 3, 7, 11, 15, 19 in order to gain a set list of abilities from another class, in this case, the Fighter. This gives you Bravery + 2 levels of Armor & Weapon Training, which stack with the Armor & Weapon Training the Myrmidarch already has access to.

Note that a Myrmidarch doesn't actually NEED to use the Fighter VMC in order to gain access to Advanced Weapon Training. They can select it naturally from level 12, when they get their second level of Weapon Training. But the higher bonus and further Advanced Training abilities are quite useful either way.

SO if I were to follow that path ... what feats would I get. As it stands I get 6 more feats till I hit 20th and I am at a loss at what to get

Greater Weapon Proficiency?
Greater Spell Penetration?

ANd if I choose FIghter, how good is the Free Hand Fighter Archetype since it fits with my Magu's combat style of SpellStrike and Spell Combat? And there is the dodge bomus to AC which would make me harder to hit

Liberty's Edge

Just curious?

Fighter VMC to get more Advanced Weapon Training and Advanced Armor Training. Apply Bravery to your Will saves and Weapon Training to your Reflex saves. Get Gloves of Dueling.

Taking 9 levels of fighter forthe advanced training would cut deeply into the progression of my Blackblade

Liberty's Edge

Thanks to all for the comments. I re-read Flamboyant Arcana and Dering-do and I am hard pressed to see any advantage taking this

As for the advice on gunslinger .. consdiering my new role is front line engaged in melee with the need to keep one hand free for spell combat, I cannot see how this will work for me.

Does anyone else have any feat suggesstions helping me dish more damage with my blade or to make me harder to hit?

Thanks again

Hey all,

My 7th Level magus is starting Book 3 of Iron Gods and am looking for some advice on feat choices going forth without to many spoliers. At the beginning of the adventure the party consisted of 2 Paladins ( 1 a Holy Gun Archetype ), 2 Bards, A Gunslinger, and myself a Tiefling ( has Spell Resistance and Elemental Resistance ) BLadebound/Myrmidarch Magus. The concept was to be DPS for the group and at higher levels cast spells with a gun as well as blade.

The party has changed drastically since then. We are now a Gunslinger/Rogue, Bard, Ranger, Oracle and a Part-time Paladin ( Holy Gun ) and myself. I have moved from being DPS to being DPS and Tank.

My Feats are Weapon Focus ( Rapier ), Weapon Finesse, Fencing Grace, Craft Wondrous Items, and Armor of the Pit. The last feat along with the "armor" found at the end of Book 2 puts me at an AC 23 ( AC 27 with Shield ). I have also crafted a Belt of Constitution +2 for more HP.

Given my new role as tank, what should I look at in terms of feast to balance being able to be hit while dishing out damage? And what magic Items beyond the obvious should I look at crafting?

Thanks.

Page 20 of the Technology Guide : Some GMs may wish to replace Weapon Proficiency ( Firearms ) with Weapon Proficiency ( Technology Firearms )

This means the default RAW is that the weapons listed in the book are classified as Firearms with a allowance for the GM to make a more restrictive change

WagnerSika wrote:
Can you take Weapon Focus(firearms)? Should it not be Weapon focus(laser pistol) or something similar?

The Technology Guide states that these type of weapons falls under Firearms

Liberty's Edge

The Arcane Pool changes in Eldritch Archer conflict with BladeBound

As for Spellstrike with laser guns , I look at the SpellSlinger Archetype for Wizards and kinda build it along that concept

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks , I will relook at the build based on your input. The reason for the dual weapons is because of the campaign. Since I am going with a DEXish build and the request of the DM to have characters embrace tech ... the ranged Spell strike seems a ready vehicle to do so

Also, I took improved critical because of the reduced Arcane Pool the Myrmidarch gets

Liberty's Edge

From the Dev - Correct; robots aren't objects and thus take full damage from energy attacks. Their hardness reduces damage done by 10 (or whatever), regardless of if it's energy damage or force damage or slashing/piercing/bludgeoning damage or whatever. That's why it's not DR (which doesn't touch energy damage) or energy resistance (which doesn't touch slashing/bludgeoning/piercing damage).

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2rez1?Robot-Hardness-Questions#7

Liberty's Edge

I will be using the new tech through the acquisition of the exotic weapons & firearms weapon feats and the 2 technology feats from the Technology Guide

Also the Myrmidarch's archetype will allow me to Spellstrike with said firearms

Liberty's Edge

I understand there is a disagreement on hardness. The question I have is my Blackblade with enchantments and my assorted feats able to fairly counter this?

Also besides hardness, if there anything else standing out on my build?

Liberty's Edge

What about my enchanted Blackblade (rapier) with Keen and assorted feats ... would that not be a high crit chance weapon?

Liberty's Edge

Since I am unfamiliar with the campaign, I was unaware of robots with hardness

Liberty's Edge

Our DM is going to run the Iron Gods campaign and I am looking to build a Magus that will embrace the new technology ( requested by DM ) that will be littered through the campaign. I have put together this build and without any spoilers, i would like to see if there any glaring structural holes in the build that would prevent me from utilizing the technology aspect of the game as well and not gimping myself in the process. Thanks
