I'm definitely interested in a Forgotten Realms game. Here is my submission. Castien is a bladebound, spell dancer magus. The current confirmed roster seems to leave an opening for a frontliner type and the only arcane is a slower advancement, so another arcane type could only help. You should easily discover four traits and some motivation in the included background.

I see you've been pressing the cleric role very hard, but it looks like you confirmed one for the party. If you still want one more, I have an idea for an Halruaan wizard/cleric of Azuth going into Mystic Theurge (yes, that poor mangy dog of a prestige class) that I would be happy to work up.

Castien is responding to the only spoken words uttered since entering. Every other party member has chimed in and spoken as though we are attacking, including you.

"Let's kill them and be done with it."

Castien memorizes frigid touch, scorching ray, magic missile and unerring weapon

Castien takes a few seconds to cast a simple spell upon himself.

Cast jump

"I am good to go now."

Castien snorts at Auron's description of the enemy caster. "A gnome? Makes sense. Those evil little creatures are usually found hanging from the ass end of some kind of fiend."

At Auron's suggestion of memorizing a teleportation spell, Castien replies, "I have no more of those for the day. I can only memorize some of the least powerful spells in my book. We will just need to win the day, as usual."

As Auron takes the time to restore Kobal, Castien takes out three pearls. Concentrating on each in turn, he recovers three of his spent spells for the day.

Retrieving vampiric touch, scorching ray and magic missile

"If we have the time, I could memorize a couple of spells that may be useful in future encounters today."

Castien begins his spell dance, moving preternaturally fast he leaps into the air chanting an incantation as his off hand moves in an intricate maneuver before thrusting his rapier deep into the wounded Ceustodaemon.

Choosing +2 atk, AC and Reflex for Blessing of Fervor. Spending an arcane point for spell dance, +40' movement, +8 AC vs. AoO, +16 Acrobatics. Spellstrike casting vampiric touch; +3 Acrobatics. Lunge. Acrobatics check should be automatic as it is DC 20 and I am +28

Spellstrike vampiric touch rapier attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 6d6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (2, 6, 4, 3, 4, 2) = 33
Confirm Critical: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25 Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 6d6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (5, 5, 6, 3, 4, 3) = 38

If the crit confirmed, 71 damage to injured ceustodaemon and 47 temp hp to Castien. If not, 33 damage and 21 temp hp

Auron and castien see how the ettings are going to block the pass, but before they can act something appear just in from of them. (Only Auron have see invisibility right?) Auron can see taht a Ceusto and a leuko appear in front of them, Castien sense that there is something in front of him but he can not see it until a leukodaemon open his mouth and send a cloud of flies, the same attack you saw the last time (28 dmg, REF DC 21 for half), and you are sickened. The cloud lingers, Everything in The area of the effect (the cone in the map) have cover, and you feel that staying in the cloud is not safe.. (by the way the ceusto is the one closer to castien and the leuko is the one in the back)

Several things. One, Castien takes no damage as he is not in square G9, but is in square M9 (30' due east) as denoted in my last post above. Two, Auron was unable to take Castien with him for the same reason. Three, Auron cannot teleport into the square three squares away from the ettin as that is the square Castien is already occupying (unless he goes after Castien). Four, just for clarification, these two daemons teleported and then made another standard action?

From square M9; taking advantage of the +2 Atk, AC and Reflex saves, using Lunge, Spell Combat, Spellstrike, swift action haste(Yay! I can use haste now and I don't have to have it prepared as it is part of being a spell dancer)

Castien, muttering an incantation and gesticulating with his free hand, takes a step towards the ettin then lunges forward, striking with his ebon bladed rapier. As he does three lines of fire issue forth through the blade, burning the undead ettin.

+2 Atk for Blessing of Fervor, +1 more for Haste

Rapier+Scorching Ray Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33 Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 4d6 ⇒ (5) + 9 + (6, 5, 4, 6) = 35
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25 Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 4d6 ⇒ (4) + 9 + (2, 4, 4, 1) = 24
Secondary Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Hasted Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30 Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Castien, upon seeing the ceustodaemon, looses several bolts of pure force to the evil outsider before moving closer to the fray.

Magic Missile: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 4, 1) + 5 = 18

Movement: G9:M9

Still unable to view photobucket at work, so you all got to wait for me to get home and sleep, but you stay classy, Ryn.

Tsk tsk tsk, when even the Human has better vision than you have, you need to rethink your life. =p

Yes, but now my vision is twice as good as yours. =D

Well, I don't have darkvision, so I would have to create some light. I have dancing lights and would probably just cast that and send the lights ahead.

Castien raises his hand to forestall further recriminations, "Gentlemen, please let us deal with the present threat of the cuestodaemon. We can always resume the anguished looks and innuendo later." Turning to the young man he asks, "How far to the southeast, young man?"

"Alas, I have but the one teleport prepared for today. If we can wait for a few minutes, I can prepare a couple of my spells anew."

Assuming everyone can wait (and they aren't teleporting without me, so they probably can), I spend 15 minutes preparing forceful strike and then another 15 minutes preparing force hook charge.

Castien enters the room at the tail end of the conversation. "Ah, you are returned. How went the interrogation?" Seeing the state of the man and his friend, he frowns. "It seems to have gone poorly."

At the mention of searching Tandall's house, Castien remarks, "We did that and found nothing. We could research it in the hopes of finding some overlooked piece of information. Of course, we could also go back to the inn and find out what became of the entire town after we left a horde of demons for them to fight off."

I don't think Helm will welcome us for our brand of interregation. Perhaps a house of Hoar?

Apologies as I did miss the touch attack portion of the description for Force Hook Charge

Touch attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (10) + 22 = 32

Reminder that Castien's damage was lethal

1st REF DC 21: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 24 damage and sickened unless it was killed by Kobal's attack after all
2nd REF DC 21: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27 12 damage, not sickened
3rd REF DC 17: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28 7 damage
4th REF DC 18: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 7 damage
1st WILL DC 15: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 not slowed

Castien rushes to his wife's side as they appear in the strange new city. He quicly grabs her up and carries her with his friends into the temple. As Auron is calling for help, the magus begins to explain, "You were attacked by an evil man and his daemonic allies. He confessed to being the man who killed your father. Auron was able to keep you from death, but you are still gravely injured. We will see you healed and I will ensure your safety."

Sorry for the delay. I am doing almost the exact same thing except it will be through a different force spell.

As the translocation spell terminates in the inn, Castien becomes very still. He doesn't seem to be aware of the banter between his friends and their newest enemy. As though a lever had been pulled, he regains his senses and launches into the air and over the railing onto the second floor. His muttered words drowned out by the triumphant fanfare booming from the black blade in his hand, the rapier skewering the human standing over Danissa.

Blessing of Fervor: +2 Atk, Dodge AC and Reflex saves
Spell Combat Force Hook Charge (target distance less than 60 ft.)
Charging Spellstrike Forceful Strike melee attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 39
Confirm critical hit: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 41
Critical Damage: 2d6 + 22 + 26 + 20d4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 22 + 26 + (2, 3, 3, 1, 4, 4, 3, 4, 1, 3, 1, 3, 1, 2, 4, 2, 4, 3, 2, 3) = 111
Bull Rush: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
May not have made the bull rush, but I think the damage makes up for it.

EDIT: To be specific, as I am charging, I would be in front of "AC" and to the right of "U":

[Cs][SX][Kb]
[AC][Dn][Au]

EDIT: redacted

Does Castien know where his wife is now?

At the mental intrusion, Castien draws his blade looking about for any likely source.

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

Castien is being facetious. Auron is a cleric of Oghma.

"Forgive my being rude, but shouldn't we be consulting a cleric of Oghma, god of knowledge, for information on "verses"?"

The elf, standing silently to this point, interjects, "I believe that Sun is correct. First, find out the location of these verses. Then we can formulate our next question. As you do, I will wrack my memory for any mention of these verses or "the Creation"."

Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (18) + 22 = 40

"I concur. Let's rest for the night and begin tomorrow with some divinations. Hopefully, they will provide us a clue on how to proceed."

"Even wizards with Conjuration as their opposition school can summon extraplanar creatures. Let's not focus our attention too narrowly so early into our search. For that matter, let's not forget that any priest can also summon creatures to do their bidding as well as, if not better than, a wizard."

Sun Xiao wrote:
"Perhaps it is my error, but magic users specialized in summoning are more likely to utilize such creatures as a Daemon, especially when it is two separate creatures now that have been utilized. It is an assumption, yes, but one that could narrow down the search, at least temporarily, and possibly make our job easier rather than investigating a blanket category of 'Successful, notorious, or prominent magic users in the area'."

"Is it not possible that such a pitiful creature was a familiar?"

The elf sighs at the slaughter of the diminutive daemon. He listens to the monk's proposal, his brow furrowing in a question.

"Why, specifically, a conjurer?"

"Great idea, Auron. Let's go see about that person."

"Well that was informative..." Castien looks around to his companions for their reactions.

"It would seem that outside of the usual detect magic we will have to wait until tomorrow before we can utilize any more powerful divinations. Let's finish up here then we can search outward in a spiral pattern to see if there is anything in the surrounding environs that might give us a clue."

Castien takes Danissa into his arms at Auron's distressing news. "Fear not, dear heart. We will discover the truth of the matter and ensure Tandall's eternal rest." The elf quietly murmurs into his wife's ear as he holds her in his consoling embrace.

The moon elf's features slide into a quizzical look as he is handed his father-in-law's treasured bastard sword. "Of course, I will guard and protect it, milady, but are you sure you want me to take it with us?"

Castien wields no sword but Tahl’larlylth, a fact that his wife would know as well as his companions.

Castien holds Danissa's hand, conveying his love to her through the gesture. At the appearance of Miranna, his eyes grow large. The magus holds mixed emotions for the deva and is always uncomfortable in her presence.

Castien breaks into a smile. "Kobal! It is good that you came. Tandall would have liked knowing you were here."

The moon elf extends a hand to his old friend and comrade in arms. "Truly, it is good to see you."

Castien solemnly attends to the intonations of the priest during the service. His mind is awash with memories of his adventuring days. Tandall always leading the charge into every scrape they encountered. The old man's tendency to smile in the middle of combat, as if he was at his most comfortable in battle. The elf frowns as his last meeting with his old commander comes forth. The look of hurt anger that Tandall had for Castien when he and Danissa confronted him with their decision to marry despite his withholding his blessing. The few curt words that passed between them; their shared code of personal honor preventing them from coming to blows.

Sensing Danissa's grief, Castien places his arm around her to show his support and share this sorrowful moment.

Sun Xiao wrote:

He turns to Danissa.

"Danissa, at what time is the funeral set to start? It's important to begin this investigation, to be sure, but I would not pass up the opportunity to pay my respects to Tandall."

@Sun - Danissa left the group in the first scene.

Castien rubs his eyes to help dispel the multiple blurry auras from his vision as he speaks, "I do not see anything inherently magical that contributed to his death. The sword wound seems to have been the death blow. We would need to see how much blood was around his corpse at the scene to know if he bled out. That seems an unlikely course at this late date."

He looks thoughtful at Sun's mention of a poison. "If there were poison on the blade, we might be able to detect it in the wound with magic." He looks to Auron, his brow raised in a question. "That would be your purview, friend cleric. Do you currently have the ability to detect any lingering poisons?"[b]

As the companions continue to discuss their next move, Castien chimes in, [b]"I, too, would like to join you in your investigation. I believe that Brother Conrad knows the hour of the service." Turning to the priest, he asks, "What time are the services meant to commence?"

@Nicos, I have updated my profile with the bare bones of my spellbook. I am going to add in my black blade stat block next.

@Lemmy - I assume that our characters have worked out a system of spellcasting that compliments each other as Castien must take on the role of party wizard. With Nicos' permission, take a look at my spellbook thus far and the magus spell list and let me know what spells you think he should have to fill our party gaps.

Castien gladly returns his friend's hug. "It has been too long, Auron."

Pulling back to take in Sun Xiao, the elf nods at his remark. "Tis true. I have been very fortunate." He nods to Danissa, briefly squeezing her hand before letting go.

"We have much to learn. I held off making any search of Tan before you arrived in the hopes that working together we could learn more. His body rests this way." Castien follows the Helmite.

Castien also uses detect magic on the corpse of his father-in-law.

Take 20 on Perception: 34 (24 on take 10).
Take 20 on Spellcraft: 47 (37 on take 10).
Take 20 on Knowledge (arcana) to determine what spells, if any found: 42 (32 on take 10).

Coming through the doorway, an elf of slight build enters the room. His silvery white hair hanging below his shoulders frames his narrow face set off by his gaze from a pair of striking cerulean orbs. His suit of courtier's clothes are of fine tailoring; the soft dove grey of the suede complimented by the cloth of silver trim. A beautiful rapier hangs from his right hip, the pommel, cross-guard and basket hilt, composed of what appears to be onyx, offset by large luminous moonstones.

It is still such a shock to see Tandall lying in a bier. The man made it through a life of adventuring to be cut down an eye-blink later. If only I could have honored his wishes with regards to Danissa. He deserved to have her in his life if for only a few short years...

The pale elf is shaken from his reverie at the sight of two of his former companions standing in conversation with his young wife. He cannot help but smile at their appearance; old memories stirring his heart.

"My friends! My heart leaps at the sight of you. We were apart far too long. It is good to see you, but I wish it could have been under any other circumstances."

Turning to give Danissa a chaste kiss on her cheek, he murmurs, "The priests have done your father proud. You will think him only sleeping, such is the skill with which they labored."

Drayen here. Okay, the stats are mostly done and all of the equipment is purchased. Just need to do up the stat block for the black blade, spells and a thorough review to make sure everything is in it's place. Excel says I have 732 gp left over from 140,000 gp. Let me know if I you notice something missing.

I will go check out the game thread now and get to posting.

Here's the Alias. Background started, let me know what you think.

Nicos:

Was thinking to add that Castien ends up falling for his friend's daughter in the next 15-20 years and marries her against her father's objections which leads to an estrangement that is only set aside when the friend disappears and Castien returns to help his old company find their friend and leader. Let me know.
