"Only one more place we haven't yet looked," he says, sheathing his blade and making his way to the gaol's staircase, "If Mord's spirit was here in the gaol, then perhaps whatever we need to do to leave this wretched place lies above it."

Determining the type of undead he is, Rekkart readies his blade and shouts a warning to the others, "Careful, everyone. This is not just an ordinary zombie; it's a ghast. This one can think, and it can paralyze with just a touch of its claw."

Scrutinizing the symbol on the ghast's robe, he takes note, "Hmm... His robes bear the symbol of Sarenrae. I take it this is the body of one of this haunted place's victims, not a forgotten prisoner... All the more reason to put him to rest."

"What need would a simple courthouse have for all of this?" Rekkart grumbles as he makes his way over to the iron maiden at Neronius's suggestion.

He braces himself for whatever may be inside as he opens the heavy metal panel.

I'm not sure which of the objects in the room is the iron maiden, so I'll just put Rekkart somewhere near all the equipment.

"While it wouldn't be out of what could be considered 'ordinary' in here, given what happened to me in the bell tower earlier," Rekkart explains, "Patrissa fled upstairs when Mord appeared. So I propose a quick glance in this... Torture chamber, then proceed upstairs if she's not in the room."

With that said, Rekkart makes his way over to the door to the chamber, opening the door and peering inside.

"Where could that woman have gone...?" Rekkart ponders to himself, seeing that Patrissa has seemingly vanished, but his train of thought is interrupted by the sudden reappearance of the formerly-bound clown.

As Ebin attacks, Rekkart merely grits his teeth and grumbles in annoyance as the risen jester strikes him for minimal damage.

Without missing a beat, he swings his sword in retaliation. Apparently with catharsis after how obnoxious the gnome had been while alive.

"Damn it all," Rekkart curses under his breath as Mord's ghost ignores the party and phases through the wall. Sheathing his blade for the moment, he begins to follow Trevor, "Everyone stick together!"

He stops at the sobbing wreck that is Madge, extending a gloved hand to help her to her feet, "Come," Rekkart orders in the most gentle voice he can manage, "I know this situation is frightening, but this is no time to succumb to fear. Stay here alone and you'll be a sitting duck for the horrors haunting this place."

Rekkart opens the door, takes a moment to survey the contents of the room, then closes the door again when it becomes apparent the living dead behind the bars can't break through.

"The wall has collapsed on the far side of the room, but there are still iron bars preventing us from leaving that way," he relays to the group, "There's also several corpses that just rose from their shallow graves, but I don't believe they are capable of tearing down the bars at the moment. Let us investigate the rest of the jail first before we deal with them."

After closing the door, Rekkart cautiously makes his way to the next door, slowly opening it to peer inside.

"Tragic," he laments, shaking his head, "But with any luck, the forces at play here won't raise her as a monstrosity as they have with our less scrupulous companions."

Carrying the girl's body back down the stairs, he lays her to rest on the nearby couch.

Whatever it was we were gonna do before the janitor decided to press his luck."

Carrie is stunned silent by this sudden and chaotic turn of events. It takes her a few moments to finally comprehend what the hell just happened enough to give the well-done gnome an answer, "Uh... Sveth threw somethin' at you, so you shot him... And then you exploded, somehow...?"

"Gods, what're we supposed to do now...?"

Rekkart's holy energy jogs something in Carrie's memory. She snaps her fingers as she recalls the letter in the judge's chamber, "Ah! Actually, thinkin' back, Wade had nothin' to do with the judge, as far as we know. But I do remember that letter in the judge's room havin' a name on it. Silman Trabe, I think? Anyone know who that guy is? Another judge, maybe?"

Carrie seethes at Sveth's seemingly carefree attitude, "Gotta say that, no, I don't feel better that the guy who drugged and kidnapped us also was also stupid enough to trap himself."

Patrissa's motives just fuel her rage further, as she turns to the woman, incredulous, "And you... You sent a man to his death just so you could have some gaudy baubles draped around your neck?!"

Carrie rubs her forehead and begins taking deep breaths to calm herself. When Zinli brings up who could possibly have wanted Mord dead, she replies, "I mean, it was that Alastir Wade guy who wanted Mord dead, right? He was the one goin' around bribin' and threatenin' everyone, includin' the judge."

Carrie sighs in frustration, clenching her fists as the impostor posing as Killian reveals himself. She takes up a threatening stance, barely keeping herself from decking the man.

"You're why we're all trapped in this run-down courthouse full of ghosts and zombies?!" she snipes at Sveth, "Some of us didn't even have anythin' to do with that trial! And you knew that!"

"Yeah, it sucks that Mord got wrongfully convicted, but you can't just stick us all in a death trap! Get us outta here, now!"

She tries to intimidate the man, but between her fear and her lack of stature, she fails miserably.

When Zinli offers her a potion, she shakes her head to clear her thoughts before reaching out for the bottle, "Ah, thanks. Bastard got a lucky hit in..."

"Halgrak's body's gone?" she worriedly ponders for a moment, "You don't think his body rotted into nothin', do you?"

"After he, uh, reattached his toes, that rot kept creepin' up his legs n' stuff," Carrie pauses briefly, shuddering with disgust, "But it spread way, way faster than it should've."

Carrie breathes a heavy sigh of relief as the zombie's bisected body splatters onto the cold hard floor. As the adrenaline begins to wear off, the pain from Malgrim's strike strangely grows less intense.

"Oh, thank the gods..."

She gives a quick look around the room as Trevor and Zinli discuss Ebin's whereabouts.

"He went back upstairs?!" she exclaims in exasperation and disbelief, "That idiot jester! Has he not been payin' attention to anythin' goin' on?!"

Gritting her teeth in frustration, Carrie nimbly darts toward one of the spiral staircases, dodging around any larger chunks of the chandelier in her way.

"Hey, you foolish fool, get the hell back down here!!" she screams up the stairwell for Ebin.

If no one attempts to stop her, she'll make her way up the stairs herself.

(Ignoring her own advice? That's a Wisdom penalty for you.)

Wiping a tear from her eye, she alters her stance.

Carrie suddenly crouches and swings around, her leg extended in an attempt to topple the zombified brute.

But her nimble maneuvers cannot overcome the zombie's strength and weight keeping it upright. As her foot ineffectually collides with Malgrim's leg, a look of terror creeps onto her face as she stares up at the still-standing undead looking down on her.

Carrie breathes a sigh of relief as she notices the allegedly-gone Rekkart laid out on the floor, but winces as Ebin's screams echo around the hall and steal her attention.

She makes her way over to the offending door, the broken crystals crunching beneath her. Tilting her head in thought, she gives a cursory glance over it.

"Huh," she muses, "Whaddya think would make the door that cold?"

She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before returning to her feet.

Carrie gazes solemnly at Halgrak's broken body for a while, before slowly and silently making her way over to one of the couches in the room and sitting down, glowering at the opposite wall with a thousand-yard stare.

"We can't just chop off his toes again!" Carrie shouts, "Especially not when he's stumblin' around like a drunkard! What if you cut wrong and make it worse?"

She makes her way over to Halgrak and attempts to help him regain balance, "I think you need to sit back down, Halgrak. You shouldn't be walkin' so soon after, uh, 'surgery'."

"Oh, gods, Halgrak! What did you do?!" Carrie cries out, covering her mouth in both horror and disgust, "C'mon, man. Don't go gettin' yourself sick doin' that. You could probably get a cleric to get your toes back on once we get outta here!"

But Trevor's absurd call snaps her out of it, "Uh, hold him down? Yeah, that ain't happenin'."

Carrie flashes a rather vicious grin when the beast falls with a satisfying crunch, but it quickly fades as the toll of the grandfather clock rings.

"Uhhh, rope... Yeah, gimme a moment," she mumbles, fidgeting as she watches Trevor and Zinli descend back into the courthouse. Digging through her pack, she retrieves a tangled length of rope, as if she'd just thrown the thing in without coiling it first.

Tossing the mess of a rope to Neronius, she quickly slings her pack onto her back and rushes down the stairs as well, "Here you go, weeeee'll be back in a bit!"
