I picked up my softcover copy of the Playtests on Friday.

It was only when having a more in-depth-glance through it the following day, that I noticed there were pages missing in it.

Specifically, pages 393 to 424 inclusive.

That's almost half the magic items section gone, along with Appendix 1: Traits; Appendix 2: Glossary and the Index from letters A to C inclusive.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Or did I just get a dud copy? I rang the store I bought it from and they'll look after me, to be sure. So that's not an issue.

Will there be any further, corrected editions printed soon, and if not, where does that leave me? (I'm old school - I prefer to have and read from the physical copy of a book, as opposed to PDF's).

Thanks and kind regards.

Thanks again for your helpful advice, folks. I've put this query to the PFS Forum as suggested. Hopefully I'll get an official ruling soon enough.

All the best and cheers.

I'm looking for some clarifications on the "Cracked" Vibrant Purple Prism Ioun Stone.

First and foremost, is the use of this Ioun Stone itself legal in PFS Organised Play?

Does the character using the Stone have to be an actual Spell-Caster themselves?

Can a Non-Spellcaster with Use Magic Device skill, themselves re-cast spells into the Stone, and what would the DC for doing this be?

And lastly, would personal spells - like "Shield",for example - be legal for PFS Organised Play if cast into this stone?

I have the "Seeker of Secrets" from which, of course, the Stone is sourced. But a link to a recent, up-to-date official ruling from the game developers / PFS staff etc on the exact legality and useage of the stone would be helpful to satisfy whatever GM might be at the table on a given day.

A couple of players in the past have also expressed doubts and reservations as well, if not to the legality of the item in PFS, then certainly to the use of it for casting personal spells - Shield being a classic example.

Many thanks and cheers.

Shield is legal for the stone. That’s what I use mine for.

Something to keep in mind... Adventurer’s Guide reprinted the Stone and changed it to a minimum full round action to cast anything out of it. That’s not in effect yet, but will Be whenever Adventurer’s Guide shows up on the PRD.

Hi Fuzzy-Wuzzy & Ferious Thune,

Many thanks for your contributions. They are very helpful in terms of a couple of my PFS characters with AC issues in particular. One being a Two-Handed Great-Axe wielding Drunken Brute Barbarian / Brawler; the other a Two-Weapon Fighting Urban Barbarian / Free-booter Ranger. For flavour, skill useage and other reasons I prefer to keep them in light armour.

Once again, thanks and cheers to you both.

If they are not a Spell-Caster but CAN still use the Stone, can the Spell-Caster who is re-filling the Ioun Stone use scrolls AND wands of the spell in question?

And lastly, would personal spells - like "Shield",for example - be legal for PFS Organised Play if cast into this stone?

Any assistance or link to the most recent and official rulings and clarifications would be most appreciated.

I completely agree. There's no reason to be getting a'head' of ourselves.

As some of the other posters have advised: Just walk away and refuse to participate in sessions which this guy is GM'ing. I made that very same decision recently, in relation to one GM among a group with whom I've met up with over the last couple of years at various PFS days and Cons. Playing with GM's like this will only wreck your head, ruin your enjoyment of the game and inevitably lead to conflict that spoils the experience for you and your fellow-players. Thankfully, such bullying, ignorant individuals like him are few and far between. Hope you've better times in the future and happy gaming!

"Steerpike", my first character, very loosely based on the villain in the first two books of Mervyn Peake's "Gormenghast" trilogy. He started off as just a straight Rogue until I discovered the Alchemist class. I had to re-invent his back-story and put a tragic twist on it, to justify his more sympathetic persona so as to adapt him for PFS play. (Spoiler-free note for those of you who haven't read the original books - he is not a very nice person in them).

"Mani", based on the cool, Kung-Fu fighting, Native American Indian in one of my all-time favourite movies: "Brotherhood of the Wolf". In PFS he is a Shoanti Ranger/Monk.

"Nemesis", a Tiefling Slayer / Magus, based on the character in the British comic 2000AD.

"Captain Harry Flashman", from the Flashman novels by George MacDonald Fraser. A cowardly, racist, sexist, treacherous, villainous bully and rotten cad of the highest order. Needless to say, he's absolutely great fun to roleplay and my own personal favourite.

If you happen to find potions in an adventure that you could add to your formula book, and haven't used them by the end, then it's not a bad deal (just like found scrolls). Between adventures, I'd just pay the "hire a wizard" price rather than buy a potion.

Thanks for the advice, Tony and Big Norse. Much appreciated and cheers!

Hi there, I just have a query or two about the Formula Alembic wondrous item in Ultimate Equipment. Is the device reusable and thus the only additional cost is that of the subsequent potions distilled in it? And does the Alchemist need to make a Spellcraft check in order to scribe the formula into his book or is the knowledge gained for 24 hours enough in and of itself? It just seems like such an inexpensive and easy way to expand the Alchemist's Formula book that I wondered if there wasn't some sort of catch. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
