Spider nods at Drifter's observation, "Yeah, stragglers are inevitable. But running into stragglers sounds way better than running into a swarm." He pauses a few seconds, considering, then continues. "I'll stay here and do my best to keep the bulk of the ferals out of your way and out of your avenue of retreat. The rest of you," he sweeps his arm to encompass MS-7, "make your way to MedLab Gamma. See if anyone is there who wants our help, and see if there are any resources there that could help Resolution"
Turning to Aandiru, Spider says, "You aren't under my command, obviously, but if there is anything more you'd like to do to help, let me know."

"All right, pick a spot with a video feed and pipe our voices in. We'll watch to see how they respond, then repeat the experiment a couple of times before implementing it to try and clear the path to MedLab Gamma."

Spider considers. "OK, let's run a test. We'll see if we can draw some of these...ferals...to sounds we broadcast over internal comms. We'll need to find a spot with camera coverage so that we can monitor the results." He moves to a computer terminal and looks for a likely location.

Spider answers AAndiru, "I thought you said they'd wander back to engineering after failing to find a way to get to us. If not...then yeah, we'll need to find a way to lure them off. Maybe we can use the ship's internal comms to lure them towards our voices?"

"We'll have to wait for the horde to clear out, but then, yes, I think we should see what's happening in Medlab Gamma."

Spider waves at one of the terminals. "We took a look, but you know the system. Maybe you'll have better luck." He positions himself so he can watch the screen as AAndiru delves.

Spider considers the mechanic's proposal. "Hmmm. You feel pretty confidant that there aren't anymore crew running for their lives out there?" He waves a hand in the general direction of the bulk of the ship. Before she has a chance to answer, he continues, "I wonder if we can get the ship's scanners to sweep the ship for human lifesigns?"

Spider considers Aandiruu's question, then shrugs. "No, not yet. But to be fair, since learning that this ship is overrun with mutant colonist spawn, we've spent most of our energy running for our lives." He pulls on the lanyard around his neck and shows her the datacard. "We found this on one of the system's moons - it's how we found Deepnight Horizon in the first place. It gave us access to the bridge, too."
"What are these creatures likely to do now? Will they wait in the corridor until we open the door, or get bored and wander off?"

Nope. Want to get everyone onto the bridge and them slam the door shut.

As Spider sprints down the passageway, he grabs the lanyard hanging around his neck and pulls out the keycard. Reaching the bridge door, he wastes no time touching the card to the access panel. "Everyone in, quick!"

"Fall back towards the bridge!" shouts Spider. He flips his rifle to automatic and lays down suppressive fire. "Go!"

Spider quickly takes in the team's positions. Trusting Flatfoot and Mascot to handle the approaching figure, he switches position so that he and Drifter can catch the pursuing group in a crossfire when they appear.

Spider moves to get under cover, then aims his ACR back towards the common area while he waits to see what is coming.

Spider makes a quick scan of the common area's floor to see if the firefight left behind any casualties, then joins the others as they move towards Security.

Spider moves alongside Mascot and raises his ACR. He uses the weapon's visual enhancers to scan the room for signs of the person.

"We'll want to look at both, but let's start with the Medbay."

Spider nods at Drifter's and Mascot's suggestions. Once the aft hatch is broached, he follows them towards the medbay.

Spider listens to everyone's input and considers. "We'll want to secure one of the Bluestones eventually, but I think we want to head for the reactor first and see what we'd need to do to refuel it."

"Yeah, I don't think we'll find a better base of operations than here. We need to figure out what type of fuel we need to power her up, and we need to scout out the parts of the ship that are dark to us and see who's there."

"Good point, Mascot. Add number four to the list - figure out the mystery of what Deepnight's mission was, and what went wrong."

Spider quietly considers the wealth of new information, then speaks. "Several objectives suggest themselves. First, our original goal, searching this ship to see if it contains the means to repair Resolution. Second, finding a way to replenish the fuel for Deepnight's reactor, or perhaps finding a way to route power to her from Resolution or one of the Bluestones. This goal would include getting a closer look at the reactor to determine its status.
Third, finding out more about the current inhabitants of this ship - both those roaming freely and those cryogenically frozen - and determining if they are a threat or potential allies. Is there anything else I've missed? Does anyone have an opinion on where we should start?"

Spider exhales as he looks around, gathering his thoughts. "Alright, Drifter, see if you can run some diagnostics on the ship's computer and see what systems we can control from here. Mascot and Flatfoot, check and make sure our position here is secure. When that's done, see about getting access to internal sensors - I'd like to do a least some of our exploring from a safe location. I'm going to dig into the Captain's log and the comms log and try and piece together what brought this old girl here."
Spider will start at the beginning of the Captain's log and skim through looking for their mission, and any explanation of the events that brought them to the state described in the final entry.
You said "most" of the landing ships are gone. What's left?

"What about this thing?" Spider pulls out the comms key they found around the first officer's neck, and tries tapping it against the access panel.

Spider leaves the other hatches closed for now and he follows through the breached hatch.

As Drifter and Mascot work, Spider patrols the corridor, checking any hatches to see if they open.

Spider helps boost Drifter up to the hatch. "Maybe some of the crew didn't like the idea of staying parked way up here above the system's ecliptic and started some kind of mutiny?"

Spider nods and follows the others towards the upper decks.

"Right. It doesn't look like we are going to be able to do anything useful from here. Let's head towards engineering, exploring as we go. Sandman, did vessels of this class have a secondary bridge?"

Spider looks around the ops bridge to see what, if anything, still looks functional. "Let's see if there is anything worthwhile here, then we can search elsewhere."

Spider follows the group and radios the ship. "Sandman, we have boarded Deepnight Endeavor and we're making our way to the bridge. No sign of any life so far, but let us know if you see any sign of activity - automated or otherwise."

"Sounds good. Let's suit up. We'll head for the bridge first and see if we can access anything there. If not, we'll head for the power plant. Spider gets into his vacc suit and grabs his weapons.

"Bring us in close. Once we're near enough to communicate in real time, we'll hail her and see if she'll open her hangar doors for us."

Spider gives a long low whistle. "Will you look at that." He admires it for a moment, then asks Sandman, "How many ships could she be carrying? And am I correct in guessing that the Endeavour class had repair facilities for its passenger ships?"

"I still have a hunch that investigating Deepnight Endeavour will be less dangerous than landing on the main world. Set a course to rendezvous with her."

Spider calls up the comms interface on a workstation. He works out the position of Deepnight Endeavour and then tightbeams a query to her, requesting a status report.

"Let's see how talkative she's willing to be." He glances at the range, "It'll take several hours before we get a response."

"Given our situation, we need to check out anything that could help - the only question is what order we do it in." Spider pauses for a moment to think. "Of the opportunities presented, Deepnight Endeavour strikes me as the least risky. Let's start there."

"Right, then. Let's get Resolution prepped for launch. We'll set a flight plan for St. Denis' main world, and on the way there, we'll try the signal and see if we get a response."

Spider considers the crew's input. "Hmmm, well, let me play devil's advocate. As Sandman said, if the Deepnight Endeavor is able to hear us, it is rather unlikely to be infected with Virus. An active Vampire would have attacked us by now. On the other hand, any active systems on the main world are almost certain to be Virus controlled."

Spider considers their discovery for a moment. "Well...that's unexpected. What are the odds that the ship somehow managed to survive all this time unmolested, do you think?"
How close we would need to be to Deepnight Endeavor in order to be in range?

"I agree - I'd prefer to risk going to the main world than spend months here. Let's head back to the ship. We can take a closer look at what's on that data crystal, and unless it contains something useful, we can see what we need to do to get off of this rock."

Spider puzzles over the notation for a moment. "DeepEnd, hmmm? Could be short for Deepnight Endeavor."

Spider moves into the room slowly and joins Mascot. "We can examine it on an isolated system. Intriguing as it is, however, I doubt it will help us repair the ship. Let's see what here will help us with that."

As Mascot moves into the machine shop, Spider moves quickly to the entrance, leans around the frame of the entrance, and points his rifle into the shop.
