Keryn launches a furious flurry of strikes at the prone form. "May the Inheritor guide my strikes!"
Keryn covers the 40 feet to Sacha, and immediately engages, fists and feet moving in a blur, but the momentum of his movement throws off his attack.
"The Inheritor provides all I need. While She may not drop by on a regular basis for tea and crumpets, I've seen firsthand the way She treats Her devoted, and the powers She provides to protect and safeguard others. No... whatever you are, I'll have none of it." He pauses for a moment, then raises his voice and adds, "There is something not right about those pools of water. Careful, everyone."
Keryn looks at Sacha. His facial expression blank, he makes a very subtle shift to his balance, bending his knees slightly, hands loose at his sides, as he readies himself to fight.
Keryn remains quiet through all of this, simply observing. He wears a slight frown, obviously uneasy about what he sees around him.
Keryn decides to hide, too, as close to Thorek as he can. He watches, and waits.
Keryn sets his mount to an easy canter and follows along with the bulk of the group. He pulls up alongside Rau and says, "I am also trained to scout, and spent time doing so while we dealt with the orcs in Belkzen. Happy to help out, if you want or need it."
Agreed, I am for exploration, and am fine with going on horseback.
Keryn smiles at the question. "As mentioned, I follow the Inheritor. Despite any animosity that may or may not have existed between our faiths following Aroden's demise, I respect the Lady of Graves. Seeing enough death will do that."
Keryn sees the other two men sitting and chatting, and approaches. "Good morning." He takes the proffered bread with a nod and a smile. "Thank you." He does not take a seat, instead standing near the two men, listening as they talk.
Keryn offers a polite nod to those gathered, and makes his way out, stopping to collect his kama from the guard. He spends the evening in restful contemplation of the coming task, then sleeps. In the morning, he spends time in prayer to Iomedae, then dresses in sturdy traveling clothes. He breaks fast with some fruit and water, then makes his way to the gates, arriving just before seven bells.
Keryn finally speaks up, after listening to everyone. "This seems like a task the Inheritor would approve of. So long as it remains such, I am glad to take part."
Keryn looks over at the human man who just sat down. "Me? Ah, I am Brother Keryn, of the Sundered Blade Sect of the Church of Iomedae. An itinerant monk in service to the Inheritor." He gives a polite nod.
Keryn stood quietly, hands folded at his waist. He wore his best robes, but left his weapons secured with one of the guards, to be claimed as he left. He looked around at the others, mostly out of curiosity, but did not strike up any conversation. So as not to be rude, he walked over and helped himself to some water and carrot sticks. As he munched on them, he tried to recall what he knew of the general's career.
I am also in favor of developing roles organically, through RP, etc. But just to get it out there, Keryn's two best scores are Dex (18), and Wis (17). He is best suited to be a Spymaster, Royal Assassin, Marshal, or perhaps High Priest (since it doesn't say the priest has to be a cleric/oracle/Inquisitor, etc.) By RP inclination, as a martial follower of Iomedae, he would not favor working as an assassin, could be persuaded to work as a Spymaster in sort of a "chief law enforcer" sort of way, and would easily fall into the role of Marshal given his interest in duty, justice, etc.
Keryn woke early, before the sun cleared the horizon. After making his ablutions and breaking fast, he wandered through the streets, looking for a small clearing or park in which to train. Finding a suitable spot, he knelt and offered a prayer to Iomedae. Inheritor, please guide me on my path. Let Your will be manifest through me. Aid me in defeating Your enemies, and protecting those in need. Please help me as I strive to live according to Your affirmations, and remember Your Acts. Valor, Justice, Honor. Now, and in all days to come. He worked through a warm-up, completing set forms consisting of a series of high and low kicks, knee strikes, elbow strikes, punches and 'blocks'. There are no blocks. Everything is a strike! He flowed through movement exercises designed to help react quickly to attacks from all sides. Finally, he drew his weapons, a pair of beautifully crafted kama. One dark of blade, one light. He went back through the basic sets, weapons in hand. Just as a castle has a foundation, so do we have basics. And just as a castle with a weak foundation will fall, so will we fail if our basics are not strong. Finally, he went through advanced sets designed to make best use of his kama. The blades sung and flashed through the air as they tore into a legion of invisible foes. Once finished, he sheathed his kama, and set out at a slow jog around the city.
Keryn fought orcs in Belkzen, but not in the Crusades. That said, he's been an itinerant for a while, so he could have met up with you at any time.
