So, I'm not really into my character at this point and not finding the BoL system to my liking after trying it out these last few weeks. I noticed that someone else is interested in joining in at the recruitment thread, so if you want to have the demon thing just kill Bran outright to make room, that's fine. I'm glad for the opportunity to try it out, but I don't think this one's for me.

... and just madly hacks at the demon, hoping to bring it down with him.

Bran simply hacks frantically at the thing, the blood coursing into his temples screaming kill it, kill it, kill it, kill it.

Bran runs into the hall after Temur and Juma... just in time to see the 8 foot tall demon.

Fighting back the animal fear in his gut calling on him to flee, he snarls and hacks at the creature.

Bran rises as silently as he can manage, buckling on his leather girdle and grabbing the falchion liberated from the temple guards. "It seems we have a visitor.", he says as blithely as he can manage, though a bit of fear creeps through.

Bran stifles a shudder just hearing Xanos speak. But he forces himself to look the sorcerer in the eye.
"The problem isn't the toll. The problem is our entrance being marked; they don't need to trouble us to report to Azoth's priests. If we go in through the river gate, under cover of darkness marked only by men whose pockets are personally being filled by our arrival... it will be more discreet."

"We could do that.", Bran says, dropping his voice to a whisper,"Or we could take advantage of the river gate. I know someone in the tent city that can arrange a punt and get us the signal... but we'll have to pay his fee. He takes his cut, the guards get theirs and we preserve the surprise."

Bran thinks back to when he and his former employer first arrived back in Shadizar; did they use the front gate?

"You think that's necessary, Ardeth? Listen, if any of you lot can tell us if there's another temple to Azoth in Shadizar or where the I'mallah's closest allies reside in the city, we'll send you back with what supplies and sellable goods we can find for you in these tents. Probably won't be much, but enough to look for work that doesn't involve slavery. You must overhear things, time to time..."

Bran watches the procession of horses leave, realizing there's little left that he can do.
"We'll catch up to them sooner or later. Let's turn over that camp and see what we can scavenge- food and clothing aren't free, after all, and we'll need both once we're back in Shadizar. We can pay a visit to our good friend the innkeeper once we're back there as well."
He starts descending the path toward the camp below.

The Cimmerian shrugs, throwing the box into a makeshift sack of his own.
"Fine. But if Temur wants to split hairs over exactly whose blood that was- well, you're grown men aren't you? You can settle accounts amongst yourselves."

Can I figure out if the boulder would do enough to damage the camp to be worth using with a mind roll?

Poor phrasing on my part- I meant that he's grabbing the snuff box and whatever contents remain for rationing, taking it away from where Ardeth sits with the hookah. Not trying to take the hookah.

Having stuffed some of the meat and fruit into his mouth and a sip or two of wine from the jugs, Bran picks up one of the guard's falchions before quietly grabbing the valuable snuff box away from Ardeth and the hookah- for later sale... and rationing if need be.
"The next chamber's got a ladder leading out of here. Think that's where that damned sorcerer fled to. Do we want to follow or try to dig out the passage? Doesn't look like our scout's up to it at the moment..."

I don't think any of the guards are still alive- and both of those questions were answered on page 4 or so by the guard we interrogated at the pit. We're about six hours from the city of Shadizar, in the desert. There's a camp of slaves and guards outside. I'm guessing the I'mallah is the person ultimately responsible for abducting us with help from a crooked innkeeper to sacrifice to his patron demon.

Bran rises slowly from where the zombie guard threw him near the girls' corpses.
"Somehow this place is even more foul than that labyrinth."

"You were enscorcelled, Juma, and tried to slay Xanos. The priest fled in a cloud of black smoke. At least we're all alive after that mess... even if leaving the way we came isn't an option."
Bran looks around the I'mallah's throne room for another possible exit... and anything else of worth.

Bran tackles the guard, trying to tangle up his clumsy legs and drive him to the ground.

If that doesn't manage, I'll burn a hero point for a reroll, leaving me with one.

Bran swings furiously at the abomination trying to kill Temur.
Since it's clearly unnatural, can I use my Barbarian bonus on damage?

That's a total of 14 with the penalty die. Based on Temur's roll, that's a hit.
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4 6 if my barbarian class is applicable.

AR roll for the guard: 1d10 ⇒ 8

"Crom's teeth!", Bran curses in amazement and superstitious awe as the I'mallah turns into a cloud of smoke. He swings his scimitar at the guard captain, hoping to finish him off quickly...

Bran attempts to finish off the rising guard, the hairs on his neck standing up as not one but two sorcerers work their fell tricks.

Bran barrels into the guardroom after the rest of his erstwhile companions... and as far from Xanos' sorcery as he can get. Not above an opportunity to even thing out a bit, he slashes at the guard sprawled over the hookah.
Do I need a penalty die due to my flaw, since Xanos cast a spell?

"What exactly happened up here? Why are we doing this when we could have stolen horses and been gone by now?"

Bran grabs a lit torch from the wall, snatching down the curtain between the hallway and the guardroom. He lights the curtain with the torch and throws it at the flipped table.

"Rouse Juma. I'll aid them until you and the Kushite arrive.", he says stiffly to the sorcerer before running up the stairs, scimitar at the ready.

Figuring the question and answer session is over, Bran knocks the guard unconscious with the pommel of his sword and leans against the wall to catch his breath.

Bran makes a grunt in the back of his throat, looking to his fellow prisoners if they have any questions of their own.

Bran staggers over to the fallen guard, grabbing him by the ankle and flipping him over onto his back before sending his heel into the man's crotch with as much force as he can muster. Covered in blood, his eyes gleaming with a manic fury, he stares into the man's face.
"I wonder- will the other toadies be able to tell the difference between your screams and anyone else's? Or will they only discover you're dead when they find your mangled corpse at the bottom of the pit?"

"Speak quickly if you wish to see another miserable day- who is your boss? Why did they throw us down here?"

Bran snarls with fury, diving at the guard with his stolen dagger in a rage.
Since I'm in dire straits, I'd like to add my barbarian level to damage in a fit of rage.

Just barely landing the jump, Bran attempts to grab the nearest guard's weapon before they can react.
I'm going to assume that it's a Brawl check with extra difficulty? I'd prefer to either grab a scimitar from a melee guard or a dagger or something from an archer, but if they've only got bows, I can toss one back to Ardeth or Temur.

Bran backpedals in the tunnel, for a moment seeming to have lost his nerve... only to come charging forward and vault over the pit to reach the guards.
I'm assuming that will cost a hero point for an automatic success. Can I make an action after that?

Bran says nothing, good or ill, about the monstrous melee moments before. He strides over to the staircase with the torch, taking a look down.
"Better than the cursed labyrinth. Hopefully going deeper will set us back on the surface eventually. Let's go while the light holds.", he says before beginning the descent.

Bran leans against the wall, catching his breath while the blood flowing from his chest slows.
"No end to the unnatural things festering in the dark- the pale beastmen being the least of them! Cut the damn thing's throat or send it away, by Crom!"
