I am playing a gold dwarf binder in a Forgotten Realms campaign. LOVE IT!! One of the most unigue, flavorful, and well-balanced classes that I've seen in years.
(Though, it is worth noting that I've also seen an inexperienced player behind the wheels of a bard being about as effective as a chicken with its head cut off. But really, the same can be said of any class. I've seen an ARTIFICER look like a chicken with its head cut off too. I measure whether a class is good or not by what a competent person can do with it) Amen, brother werecorpse! LOL still!
Scratch, scratch, scratch...
Names are names. People get all mad about the name of a thing. However, I understand why 3.75 became a title "unofficially". Pathfinder seemed more of a campaign name like Forgotten Realms or Eberron. 4e D&D is a totally different system than previous editions. Was 3e broken? Did 3.5 fix it? Mostly. Paizo's new spin-off builds on the existing system(3.5) by fixing and tweaking it. Is it the best yet. We will see. But the horizon looks hopeful.

It's utterly insipid...As someone else mentioned, you basically have to use the monsters from the MM as is...to build your puzzle of doom for your players...
First thing I noticed...alignments...WHAT??? if you're going to break it down to less alignments, why stop at removing LG, LN, CN and LE...why not just make it G, N, or E...
Ugh I can't even talk about it...sorry it's like a Basic-advanced-3e hybrid...
I don't like "it"
Oh and another thing....
THEY REUSED ARTWORK from previous editions!!!!!!! What THE !!!!?
Your opionios are god-like in my eyes!

Which will not happen.
I think he's somewhere between denial and anger. That puts him at station 1.5. It's still a long way to Stage Five (Acceptance), but I'm curious about his attempts to bargain :)
I *think* you are referring to me (I'm not the OP, as someone upthread seemed to suggest). I'm not trying to panic anyone into anything. I was making a point and defending it, which I have done quite well, if I do say so myself, a fact which the total lack of substance in your response only serves to underscore.
Seriously, is everyone here so divided into us vs. them camps that this is what we've come to? A number of people here seem ready to go to ridiculous lengths to avoid admitting Paizo's course of action was risky. The world isn't black and white people.
Really? You must not live in the south. :)

4E may also piss off powergamers, because there aren't really loopholes in 4E yet. Powergamers love loopholes or powerful abilities that are priced too low.
Powergamers will hate it, anyway. 8d6 for Meteor Swarm? I'm a powergamer sometimes and I don't like it. I want my 24+8d6 back!
I don't know all the powers, so I don't know whether there aren't any loopholes. But the 4e-glut of splat books is coming (and will include additional PHBs if I recall correctly - one per year), so I don't think we have to wait too long before we hear "There are too many books for 4e. It's no longer playable. The issues are too big. We need 5e".
My prediction is that it will be released 2012. At the latest.
I agree. I powergame. My fellows powergame. My monsters powergame. Those exploited too much have them turned back on them. Creating a new system and nerfing it all doesn't appeal to me because I foresee the outcome. In 2011, rules will exist in 4e that have loopholes and a new way to powerplay them. There exists no foolproof system. Its the DMs job to balance it out.
Nervous Jester wrote: No offense, but I don't think the issue has anything to do with Paizo's sales.
I think the OP just wants "Paizo-quality adventures" for 4E and realizes that Wizards simply isn't going to make them. Unfortunately, he's displacing his issue by blaming Paizo for this situation (and claiming they will lose sales due to that) when it's entirely caused by WOTC.
There are no more Paizo adventures in Dungeon becuase WOTC pulled the license. And Paizo did not go 4E because of what Wizards has done with the GSL.
Ultimately, it's blaming Paizo for choices Wizards made.
If anyone wants Paizo-quality from 4E, demand it from the makers of 4E. They're the ones responsible for its existence or lack thereof.
Jester, you should not be so nervous. That was by far one of the better said statements of the month.

Timespike wrote: I purchased (against my better judgment and at a 40% discount) a 4e PHB today. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it as a curiosity or just take it back and exchange it for something I'll get more use out of.
First of all: 4e is not a bad game. It's slick, fast and pretty as hell. I can imagine it would be a great way to blow a few afternoons. I might play in a 4e game, but I'll never run one, because...
...unfortunately, it doesn't even begin to hold a candle to 3.5, and can't even glint dimly around the PRPG alpha. One of the biggest joys of 3.5 for me is customizability. I can take five levels of any of the 11 core classes and make any number of different characters, and they will feel radically different. Pathfinder fosters this even more. 4e does not appear to make that possible. And then theres the loss of prestige classes. I know PrCs aren't everybody's thing, but I love 'em, and not only are they gone, there's no way to get them back. Leveling is handled SO differently in 4e, that there's no way you'd pull it off. I think, however, the biggest loss is the spells. Whether you like vancian spellcasting or something more like Midnight or GURPS, it won't matter. The spellcasting in 4e is so different as to be unrecognizable. And that's too bad, in a way. I could go on, but I'll leave it at this:
I (genuinely!) look forward to the 4e computer games, but for tabletop, I am sticking with 3.5/Pathfinder.
BLESS YOU CHILD!

Considering Eric's love of all things infernal and abyssal, I would bet money that Pathfinder will have a manual of the planes, and the best cosmology ever made. Ooh! I hope you're right! It would be awesome!
:D
Peace,

You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl.

awp832,I agree with you. Sorry I wasn't there to discount the meager opions of those that discounted you. However, my solution is simple as pie. ATTACK the idiot casting the spell with said invisible creatures over and over and over. Let a handful of detect magic casting wizards made by him die repeatedly. Then inform the party that you are not allowing detect magic to circumvent illusions since their essence is to trick and befuddle the mind. When the group moans and complains about this new house rule, look over at the guy in your group who thinks he's harry potter (we all have one). One good grim look from the DM should let him know that this new rule will save him from making a new character.
Scotto wrote: I love the CMB system, with one exception.
I miss the "make a Touch Attack to hit your target" step. This helped to prevent high-Dex opponents from getting hit with Grapple/Trip in the first place. The CMB system gives no credit to most characters that are hard to touch in the first place.
Pinning a weasel that you're grappling should be easy. Grabbing the weasel in the first place should be much harder.
-Scott
What the hell kind of campaign are you guys playing where you grab and pin weasels? Got an opening?
in response to Samuli
YEAH!!! Like a Judo or Aikido version of the reaping mauler prestige class. Samuli, you are onto something big. I can smell it from here. It smells like napalmed DM. Love it baby!
Neithan wrote: CMB is the one thing that I am taking straight to my game without any adjustments. Though our group didn't like the pathfinder races and classes at all, everyone was strongly in favour of CMB. Your group doesn't like pathfinder's races or classes at all? What, the +2 to any attribute for humans and half-elves too vastly overpowered? OK, I'll concede that I believe half-orcs seem a little weird with a +2 to Wisdom. However, the class changes were awesome. Unless you prefer havinf 19 dead levels to sorcerer.
Kor - Orc Scrollkeeper wrote: I think CMB is a good element to help speed along the flow of the game.
The DC needs to be reduced to between 10 to 12. (Especially so, when considering all the different maneuver bonuses are now +2).
Would that be an 11?
Why is there no rules for simpling crawling away?
sciencephile wrote: I agree with both sides. I think that Ray of Enfeeblement is broken but I can see how it would be suboptimal if a save was made in addition to range touch to avoid the effect. I think adding a save for 1/2 effect would be a good compromise. Couldn't agree with you more sciencephile. save for 1/2.

Please Pathfinder, get rid of animated shields!
Oh come on Eric. There is nothing cooler than a levitating shield whizzing about deflecting blows from thine enemies! Tally ho! If you don't like them, get rid of them in your game. Don't expect Pathfinder to remove them.
Gary Teter wrote: I think the appropriate place to talk about ENWorld policies would be over there, not here. I agree Gary. Oh yeah, sorry about that comment earlier about everybody that plays 4e is a d$@@$@%. It was a little harsh.
One other thing:
Anyone out there ever invite someone to your gaming table only to realize he or she lacked the patience and /or intellect to play D&D?
Those d~&!+#@s will be playing 4E.

I just got done reading all the posts so far. Most everyone has made some interesting arguements. I am an old school gamer who has played every editions as well as D&D's predecessor, Chainmail. I have ventured into other RPGs such as Rifts, Star Wars, Twilight 2000, Gamma World, Battletech, and many more. However, I have always found my way back to D&D. I always liked the system and setting better than every other game. I walked away from all these experiences with one thing in my mind. RPGs are about the fun you have with your friends. That said , a perfectly good game can be destroyed by the wrong people. However, without the right game, the best of friends get bored with each other's company. Every system is imperfect. They all have there faults. However, D&D has been tried and tested more than any other system out there. As complicated as it is, the rule system covers more aspects of combat than any other game out there. The most difficult thing as a DM has always been integrating new players in with a more experienced group. When I heard D&D was make a system with a less difficult rule structure that still handled everything but with a less steep learning curve, I was excited. However, when I read about Wizards plans for everyone to destroy their campaigns to pave the way for their new edition. the excitement waned. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind fresh starts or wiping the slate clean. Yet this was a new angle NEVER preached before by TSR or Wizards. All earlier editions just updated, elaborated or corrected the game. Existing characters that my players had grown to love over the years only needed revising. Planetary genocide had never before been asked of DMs. Not to mention the fact that 3rd edition appeared after years of Advanced Dungeon and Dragons 2nd edition being in print without new rule releases. 4th edition asked that everyone destroy their campaigns and all characters in existence as well as get rid of every book that Wizards released only MONTHS before. What fool at Wizards thought that had a chance in hell of going over well? I don't think that I need to remind anyone with the patience to read this long-winded post that these books are not cheap. The reason I buy them is because I love the game and I will use the material within for YEARS. I have to agree that the merchandising end of Wizards has gotten ahead of the love of the game. I do not need a lesson from anyone on business or marketing. I understand the need for a business to continue to make money every quarter. I do not believe that Wizards has made the right decision in completely dismantling a tried and true platform of rules, and asking their fans to toss every character, campaign world, and book in the trash so that they can re-market a whole new set of rules that is in a completely opposite direction of every previous edition. By the way, Pathfinder is fantastic. I have read through your Alpha release rules set as diligently as I have read 4E new core books. Your amendments are beautifully constructed and well thought out. I could not have restuctured the core classes better. Oh, and by the way, thanks for not telling me to go sell or burn all my old characters and books in order to play Pathfinder. I can't wait to see how poorly 4E does. Serves them right!
oh yeah, lost my train of thought last thread, if you all were not out there making good use of the 3.5 rules then my $7000 worth of books would of eventually made great firewood according to Wizards.
I've been gaming for 22 years. I've trudged through basic D&D, advanced D&D, 3.0& 3.5 editions. I was very happy with MOST of the game. I've adapted over the years to the constant adaptions to existinfg rule structures. I've looked over the Alpha release rules and I really like how you gentlemen at Paizo have tweaked the rules. I think I'll actually be able to get a player to play a sorcerer for more than two levels. I have purchased all of the available Pathfinder adventure path in print. I have also pre-ordered the rest of the second path. FANTASTIC JOB!!! I was amazed at the quality of the adventure in appearance, originality and playability. I must say if you guys were not out there willing to continue to produce material set up for "3.75" rules. I have read all the material for 4th edition. I'm not impressed at all. Your improvements over yesteryear's rule structure is far better than Wizard's.
