Male Human Magus 1
Beltrin loads up his pack with a fair share of the donated goods. Hefting it, he looks at his new-found companions. "Well, shall we be on our way? The sun is already high in the sky and although I recall seeing a few others pledge their services last night, I'm sure that they will catch up to us on the road. That is, if they weren't just too deep in their cups at the time... <chuckles>" Leshok, let us know how much extra weight this is for encumbrance. This would probably push me up to medium encumbrance.

"Aye, no doubt there will be many dangers. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what you encountered on your trek? That we can better prepare ourselves for the threats of the wild." Leshok: It kind of got lost in the shuffle over the holidays, but if possible, Beltrin would have sent a short letter to his parents. It apologizes for departing from his given task, but his greater duty to the kingdom requires that he go on the quest for this groundbreaking cure.

Beltrin sighs... "You'd think they could have lent us a pack animal or two as well... and where is the chap with the horse? Surely he could take on a bit of the load." No helping it though, I propose that we split up the load equally, unless one of you feel up to carrying a pack by yourself." Looking particularly in Revengance's direction....

Beltrin arrives a bit late and obviously nursing a headache from over-indulging in wine last night. Shaking his head to clear the cobwebs, he nods a greeting to the rest of the party. Noticing the guide, he introduces himself, offering a hand to Allens. "Greetings Allens, my name is Beltrin Rebekson and my thanks go out to you for guiding us on this perilous journey."

Beltrin racks his mind to see if he has seen or heard of this outspoken, well-dressed man before... Knowledge (Nobility): Take 10 + 4 = 14
Beltrin spends the evening alternately avoiding his fellow guardsmen and attending the revelry. He also introduces himself to his new traveling companions. We can role-play out the introductions or move forward, I don't want to hold up the story. Especially since this group promises to have some interesting role-playing dynamics moving forward.

A thoughtful look comes over his face as Beltrin ponders the possibility of such a journey. Certainly there could be consequences to traipsing off into the wilderness against orders, but if he was to return with an antidote, who would dare punish him? And weren't the history books full of stories about heroes who only succeeded because they dared to flaunt both the rules and conventional wisdom? After all, he's not technically a member of the guard yet, and the weather should hold for another month before the heavy snows came. When they did, it would make such a journey impossible until the next summer, which is an eternity away. Having convinced himself that no great wrong could be done by volunteering to make the trek, he speaks in a loud, ringing tone to both Maester Keaton and the gathered crowd. "I cannot speak for this village providing you with room and board. But if they did, I for one would volunteer for the journey to Ironpeak!"

Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Moving through the crowd to talk to the Maester face to face, Beltrin speaks in a more conversational tone. "Valuable as those potions are, even more valuable is the formulae that was used to concoct them. With that knowledge in hand, the wizards and alchemists of this land could help to right the balance and ensure Orensden's survival with future generations." "Perhaps an arrangement could be made for the formulae? I have contacts among the sages of this nation that would pay dearly for this information." "Unless, of course, you wish to keep the knowledge for yourself and make the treacherous trek to Ironpeak again and again to replenish your supplies of this wondrous flower..."

Drawing himself up to his full height Beltrin shouts over the crowd to Maester Keaton. "Wise and knowledgable Maester, tell us more about this marvelous cure!" Gesturing to the crowd around him... "We all wish to know how to overcome the malaise that has fallen upon this land and once again have girl children born to the women of Orensden."

This remarkable claim quickly makes Beltrin forget both his orders to stay near the wagon loaded with Tessarin wine and his mother's advice that "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.". He makes a beeline for Maester Keaton to find out just what sort of secret they have discovered (and maybe sample some of their fine ale as well).

Equipment is done and stats finished. I've also added a bit to the backstory to explain how he acquired his arcane knowledge. Special Request: A silver broach in the shape of the family seal (a badger's head transposed over a shield) with two small rubies inset as the eyes. It was his grandfather's and was given to him by his parents when he became an official Guardsman trainee and moved into the barracks. It would be recognized by anyone with a knowledge of Orensden heraldry as the seal of the Rebekson family, who have a long history of serving as officers in the palace guard.

Ioun Cloud here, just wanted to post my player profile. I have a background posted, although some of the details will change if I play a magus. Let me know if there is anything in it that would conflict with your story plans. I'll post the stats when I've finalized my class decision. |
