Actually, My life is picking up in terms of outside busy, so having one Campaign I can be 'casual' about is nice.

Lips pressed together to avoid responding to Ser Donnel's description of Goodman Shadowwater, Beatriz does reply to his query. "Almost completely, Ser Donnel, thank you. I will find myself completely satisfied when all my questions are answered. Are any of the other guests yet arrived? Which guests concern you the most?"

Those are suppositions it would be helpful to have clarified, on both our parts. Wandslinger?

That requires that he have willing allies...

Pretty much our entire House history revolves around strife & we sided with the Targeryens during the Baratheon Uprising. Just how many other Houses do you think are going to admit to being allies with us?

Honestly, I'd be very surprised if Robert's Pardon didn't have some fairly hefty hidden strings attached. I strongly suspect the other House Lords out there have that exact same suspicion.

Times such as these conspire to convince me a 'proper lady's' life might be for me after all. Then I might confine myself to my chambers & claim to be suffering from the vapours...

What is up Ser Donnel's bonnet?

"I must compliment you on your perspicacity Ser Donnel. I had yet to even send Isoud to request that I be informed when our guests arrived, that I might greet them appropriately, yet here you are." Matching him level gaze for gaze, "Of course, perhaps there is another reason for your seemingly fortuitous arrival?"

This is strictly OOC, but the perceived slight I was referring to was Erin presuming to critique her father's choices. Beatriz may not agree with them, but he is still a) her father & b) the rightful lord & Head of House Azaryen & even she doesn't critique his decisions in public, which this conversation very much was since Beatriz didn't want the specter of being seen to have a private conversation with a man she wasn't at least betrothed to without a chaperone.
That said, everyone in nebulous positions of power in Westeros tends to be 'prickly' & I don't see why the PC's shouldn't likewise.

Beatriz' features firm at the perceived slight to her Father but then her eyes widen slightly at mention of King's Landing. Swallowing her trepidation as she whispers to Erin's back. "Oh, I'm sure you will. They do stir..."

Gemstones, fabric & suchlike:
Barring Sumptuary Laws, of which G.R.R.M. has never made mention, Beatriz' 'favored' gems will likely be those that best accentuate her own coloration, diamonds & amethysts, or those gems which best exemplify the House colors, which I don't recall just now. I say 'favored' because it is probably one of those 'open secrets' that she only wears Jewels &/or other jewelry when circumstances force her to. Granted, that is most of the time, at least most of the time when she isn't in the practice yard.

Beatriz seems to studiously ignore Isoud's comments regarding her skill with a needle & wifely duties to instead rebut the implied criticism of her own inquiry. "As chatelaine of the household it is my duty to, among other matters, be informed when our guests arrive so that they may be properly made welcome according to their station." Beatriz frowns at Isoud, "Given the great deal of effort you & Maester Korran have exerted in reminding me of my duties as a Lady, I would have thought you would not need reminding I am only able to fulfill my duties when I know who else is performing theirs."

As Tradesman Shadowater approaches, Beatriz nods in his direction. "Case in point, was I made aware beforehand that either Selyrio Brassa or Tradesman Shadowater had arrived? No I was not. Please relay to Ser Donnel that I can hardly perform my duties blind any better than he would under similar circumstances." Looking about the chamber to confirm sufficient household presence that any conversation betwixt her & Tradesman Shadowater could not be construed as private, Beatriz arched her brows meaningfully. "Now, if you please, Isoud. The sooner done, the sooner done, yes?"

In response to Erin's greeting, obeisance & gift; Beatriz' features soften, more as they might for a distant but still amicable relative than for a close friend. "I would ne'er deign compare my handiwork to Braavosi Steel, even as...
delicate,
an implement as you grace this court with today Goodman Shadowater,"
her nod indicating the blade at Erin's hip rather than the gift in his hands. "I'm certain Father will be quite pleased with such a fine gift for his...
Heir,
Samuel Waters."
Beatriz' rather indelicate closure to her statement an unconscious indicator of her own discomfort.

Mmm...Korran's probably been around for at least half of Beatriz's life. I envisioned him as a gawky young teenager on the cusp of becoming a man legally when the Rebellion broke out, but that he didn't actually become a Maester until a bit later in life, and that he fairly blazed through the education and trials because he's something of a prodigy where sheer knowledge is concerned.

The rules don't quite let me model his colorful past but I figured it made sense that his unused skills from the war days would atrophy. So how long he's been Maester to the House and teaching the heiress would probably depend on how long she's been alive. Korran's just about to turn 31, and I figure he's been a Maester for at least six years if not more. Exact number TBD.

Odd, for some reason I missed this post the first time around. Has Korran noticed Beatriz can practically match him in sheer intellect yet, or is that yet another of her infuriatingly un-ladylike qualities? Considering she is literally less than half his age.

I like Azaylas' idea of the Household/Beatriz' first Maester having been old & infirm (and consequently appropriate for a decidedly minor House because of it), while the replacement Maester got sent to us right out of schooling & therefore was seen as untried & inexperienced.
It seems to me that might have been one of the, if not the prime, roots for Korran & Beatriz seeming dislike/disinterest in each other. The previous Maester, being 'old & doddering' at least to some people's mind, 'indulged' Beatriz in focusing her studies in areas more commonly considered appropriate for young Lords & once Korran arrived the 'damage' was done & all he can do is suffer the indignity of such an inappropriate student even when it isn't his fault...

Eyes bright & liquid from the implied chastisement, Beatriz curtsies to the best of her ability. Directing Isoude, her lady's maid, to claim the dress from Lord Azaryen's valet; Beatriz & Isoude then return to Beatriz' chambers. Once there the process of disrobing, bathing, dressing & lightly but properly applying cosmetic begins once again.
Prepared once more, Beatriz makes herself available within the council chambers, seated next to a window with good light, where she attempts, fumblingly, to exert her needlecraft while observing the household in preparation for her father's nameday celebration.

"Isoude, who is Sergeant of the Watch this afternoon?"

I know Acting is a specialty of Deception. I do not recall what abilities other performing or creative/visual arts would be specialties of.

Mornings are spent with the Steward, overseeing the needs of the Domain. Early Afternoons generally in the practice yard with the Sargent-at-Arms & whichever unit is currently in drill. Late Afternoons are again with the Steward reviewing those matters which cannot wait until the next day & with the Maester in varied studies. Evenings attend on Father.
One day a week, at need, focused solely on either Stewardship of the Lands or Drill with the soldiers, she tries to keep it balanced between the two.

Morning, Lord Barric Azaryen's 45th Nameday Celebration

Beatriz spends longer that morning than usual within her dressing chambers. Once she comes out the cause is clear, though her stance & carriage are still more those of a soldier or a scholar than a courtier, it is obvious she & her lady's maids have put every effort into clothing her as befits a maiden of her House.
Her Silvery-white hair bound back in a demure snood, her Amethyst Eyes accented with just enough cosmetic to enhance their size & clarity. Unfortunately, her physique was just too robust to properly fit the gown she had been laced into. Her shoulders & chest too broad for the lacing to meet properly causing a minute gap through which the chemise peaked ever so slightly.
