This is split off from a thread located here. The need for clarification comes from a little ways down in the thread.

Side one of the argument:
That a PC can use a double weapon one handed, and in doing so, only attack with one end without penalty, thus allowing them to switch from two handing one end of the weapon to TWFing with the weapon to pairing the weapon with a shield.

Side two:
While a PC can wield a double weapon in one hand, they run into the rule of wielding a two handed weapon in one hand, and the use in that fashion then incurs penalties.

---

Personally, I'm going with side two. It seems that the RAW is not very clear.

So, if you all could take a look at the linked thread and weigh in, I would greatly appreciate it on behalf of my sanity. Thanks.

I'm just curious as to how anyone has worked the class into the Eberron setting. I haven't done much with the class personally, but a friend in an upcoming game was thinking about going with one using the Master Summmoner archetype. We had brainstormed for a bit, I brought up the Manifest Legion*, he brought up the gnomes in Zilargo and their elemental summonings and bindings. Not sure which way he will go, but I thought I could pick brains here, since now I'm thinking about it. So where do you fit summoners into Eberron?

* The Manifest Legion is lightly covered in FoW, they are a mercanary company that focuses on using summoned creatures to disrupt and confuse the enemy. In the book they are obviously portrayed mostly by conjurers and sorcerers. The Summoner class kind of calls to this, especially the Master Summoner. but my only reservation regards the eidolons themselves. Now like I said, I have no personal or game experience with the class, but after reading Faithful Servants by James L. Sutter, I figured that eidolons, while bound to their masters, are still rational thinking beings. Would they be happy with mercenary service?

So now as I'm typing this, lets add another question.

How do you play your eidolons? Are they just mindless forces/creatures you summon that exist only to do your bidding? Or is it a partnership? Do you have a personal bond with them, like your family has a history of being hitched to odd spirits, and you've known your eidolon since childhood? Started out as an imaginary friend? I'm just rambling here, I would love to here anyone else's opinions on the matter

Hello to everyone

Working on a character concept for a possible eberron game starting at level 6.

Its looking like someone else in the group already has designs on playing an archer, so I was looking to play a melee focused/semi tank inquisitor. However, the inquisitors lack of heavy armor and smaller hd has me a little worried. I know that multiclassing is generally frowned upon, but I was planning on taking at most 3 levels of paladin.

Basically I'm just looking for something to dip into for heavy armor prof, martial weapons, and at least a few levels of a higher hd. I thought about cavalier (order of the star), but the mount doesn't appeal and much of the abilities are level dependent, kind of weak for an at most 1 level dip. So, I turned to the paladin. Opposite problem here, seems kind of pointless to only take 1 level, and I may just be caught in a 3.5 mindset, but level 3 seems like a good point to branch out after nabbing a bunch of good stuff.

Again, planning on being frontlines with heavy armor, not sure if two handed or sword and board yet. Ability scores I plan on being str>wis>con>cha>int>dex. Dex being a dump stat because will be in heavy armor anyway and not too worried about ranged combat, I could switch con and wisdom even, not sure how high the campaign will take us, might not be necessary to have 16 for full casting.

Backstory would be a former soldier for Thrane who after witnessing war crimes by his own forces becomes an inquisitor. Joins the group as an agent of the Diet of Cardinals, opposite to my friend playing a SF cleric who is a personal agent to Speaker Jaela.

So, good idea for 3 levels of paladin? Fits character concept and seems alright to me. Any thoughts anyone may have on build, optimization or the lack there-of, please let me know. Not sure yet what the other characters will be, there could be four more, not counting my buddy's cleric, last I heard they would be a basic-four group.

Hello everybody, thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm working on a few concepts for a a friends upcoming game, Eberron using Pathfinder rules. Interested in playing some sort of sword master, so fairly set on Fighter for a class. Rules are no multi-classing, using PF point buy, 25 points (epic fantasy). So, here are two that I'm working on.

1. An Aundurian half elf/human fighter, aldori dueling sword. Possible archetypes, Aldori(Aundurian) Swordlord, Free Hand or Weapon Master.

A finesse based build, skilled in family's hereditary dueling style. These all cover the salient points of the style I'm going for, quick, various tactics (ie disarm) available, skilled with specific weapon. I've heard however that Weapon Master isn't worth it past 4 levels, hence its a base for Duelist prc. The Swordlord gives up weapon training for a "disarming strike" ability, damage on a disarm. Empty Hand just seems kind of ehh, might be worth more if I was able to multi into rogue for some sneak attack.

2. A Valenar elf, twf with double scimitar. Possible archetypes, Dawnflower Dervish or Mobile Fighter.

Anybody who knows anything about Eberron gets it. Glory seeking warrior, descended from a line of elves that set aside Valenar traditions of stealth/guerrilla warfare and fight straight up. These two are mostly the same, Dawnflower giving some more "elfy" things like moving through difficult terrain, Mobile seems superior overall, would just like some confirmation.

Please, any thoughts on what might be the most useful for either build would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time
