Hey, apologies for the lapse in posting, late nights with world cup got me in the kitchen and games in China begin 10pm and finish after 3 or 4am, people out, serving beer, got a new taco and salad place opening up with a Chinese friend, but only part time for me, smoking meats and other items, sorry I've been busy negotiating with distributors and shopping for equipment... Enough excuses, I'm off the next three days and as world cup mania finishes, I'll be back to regularly updating... I had been putting off posting because someone was having pc issues, another traveling, thought I'd wait, now Vartas traveling, anyways, gonna update tomorrow, its evening my time and gotta take care of people for tonights games... I hate soccer, but its crazy popular here
It could be that our journey is unaffected by the storm, it could be possible to ride the edges and hasten our journey... But their is always an inherent risk to warp travel that that is slightly elevated and we could be thrown off course, pulled out of the warp, or still arrive later than anticipated... I believe the ship can handle it and I'm confident in my sight. As for the rolls FB Lore, I know I'm behind, just been on the go lately, business crazy with world cup action and friends visiting from the states, I haven't forgotten and will reply, they aren't anything that would affect your RolePlay or decisions right now, but would give you something to talk about maybe... Will get to them asap.. As for the Pardis roles, I had revealed them to the earlier members, I just need to cut and Paste them together as your DOS gave you all the information, I know you have many others, will get to them soon, hopefully in the morning between classes.
I know Deleos and Pyros having issues potentially posting for a little while, gonna try to minimize needing them or their input as much as possible, will bot them if needed, but won't make them choose decisions, those will be up to the remainder of the crew or just the captain, depending on how Vartas handles it... Keeping in my non linear tradition, choices have consequences and will affect the story, just reminding new players not familiar with my style, there are always multiple ways to approach things and I prepare for what I can anticipate and will do more if you choose something I haven't anticipated... Sometimes might be slow when I'm preparing for the fork in the road, but after it'll be more fluid.
Alric guides the team to the bridge, leading and twisting through the maze like corridors of the ship. There are more servitors aboard than your previous ship. Arriving at the bridge, its a master piece in itself to behold, The stations more ancient than anything you've witnessed yet, with wires and chords running everywhere, its obvious some things are still being finished, with tech priests working diligently and so focused they hardly notice the team entering the bridge. Senior officers stand to salute and inteuduce themselves, offering to guide you in the transition to your leadership roles aboard, nothing but sincerity, sincerity, and respect. A larger figure approaches, head partially covered, hiding his 3rd eye, the navigator of the ship. Welcome, the Dark Tide is still under renovations, but shes ready, even if it's not as beautiful as you'd imagined... I am Navigator Tommaz... Unfortunately the arrival of your ship is later than I had hoped for, our course will carry us close to a warp storm, but I do not fear or doubt my ability to navigate... Though it is not my decision, I must inform you that we can go around it and avoid any additional risk of warp travel, but not without adding substantial travel time.. Possibly months by my estimates, but difficult to accurately determine givem the nature of of the immaterium.
So I don't think hermetic infusion is suitable for a marine... After reading the disadvantages, you need a special supply of blood and /or a Magos Bioligis to fix you and that's not something readily available to Marines and and a burden to carry more blood and its limited, given where Marines are fighting. Additionally, it replaces organs, which I think would be a big no no for a marine and their specific genetic design... Marines get prosanguine, that should be your healing... I really like that you explored the books and created something truly unique and I've given you almost everything you've wanted, but hermetic infusion kind of goes beyond what any marine or techmarine is designed for. Everything else fine, just need to switch that one. Even letting you have the cybernetic that replaced both legs instead of one at a time, Ive given you more leeway because you are Ironhand. So switch out hermetic infusion and we'll be good.
Choose alt. requisition, what you have chosen looks fine. I'd prefer bionics, as it makes more sense in a DW marine context and the nature of the deed, being injured in battle etc, but if there is something particular in mind you'd like to have, let me know and we can decide. As for sense corruption, here's how I think it can be used and how you can apply the bonuses and when in the future: The +30 bonus will be to scrutiny, and for a particular part of a conversation, it doesn't cover anything and everything said, you'll need to roll it anytime you think there is something suspect. The rank 6 bonus, I'm going to rule the same. It will depend greatly on your role-play and you won't ascertain much if they aren't talking to you. Wearing a helmet also obscures view, etc, so keep that in mind when trying to roleplay and think of what you are looking at specifically, think body language, voice, eyes, speech, etc... For our current example with Alric, you have only heard greetings, so there is nothing for him to deceive you about through his words or actions yet, so I don't think it's appropriate, and it would be impossible to detect anything with such limited exposure to his nature. I don't want this ability to be a shortcut for role-play, without proper interaction, the modifiers and difficulty will be greater, and you won't know what they are, and/or when you fail/pass. (Obviously, if you pass you'll get something, but failure to a great degree, could have you mistakenly accusing someone, so having some interaction and more than pure "intuition" will help set the scene for your actions and convince your brother... This will be the first ability I've seen that will make me roll off the forums, b/c merely rolling here could imply deception, so I'll be rolling with dice on my phone. If people are pure, like Alric, then there won't be rolls, but you won't know either way. Hope this clears up the use of this ability, if you have any questions or other hypothetical scenarios you'd want me to break down for you, please think and ask now, before it becomes important. That should be all OOC stuff we need to clear up if I'm correct, afterwards, I can begin putting more thought into your FB lore rolls.
For Valens long post
The master enginseer bonus is +10 to emergency repairs extended action, not tech use in general. Let's go with option C. I think I explained auger before and in light of reading description, it's just tech roll, nothing else helps. You may choose a or b for covering the number of bionics, up to you.
I had been basing it off RT additional text that I'd read and played long ago with my first GM.... You are right Ulrich, I took a glance at the deathwatch and it's different. Rogue trader has the following additional text . In addition, an
That isn't necessarily a wireless connection to equipment though and I think the physical plug makes more sense... So here's how we'll do it. Valen will have the spinal or wrist connection probes and one on a mechandrite... His artificer armor includes one too, but its redundant at this point... You need to plug in to stuff, but can control and have senses of servitors and familiar, as per the text. Valen, I know it's different than originally thought, if this impacts your decision to have it in relation to the conversation above where we are figuring out your bionics, I'll allow you to change or remove it.
I didn't mean to imply he was wearing them, just that he has them, I'll let him decide, just wanted you to know that you sensed something unusual. If he's wearing them, I would have given you rolls on some lore, as it now, I assumed he wasn't wearing them because he last said he was carrying them, so you just sense something, but don't know what, I think that's how the ability works in general or atleast how it'll be played out here, assuming he's not wearing them.
Ok, cool, quite a post and some points for me to think about... Thanks for breaking down where the bionics come from, my last issue to resolve with them is their quality, as you Start with a common and get an exceptional at current renown... All of yours are EQ and 2 are master.. Trying to find my exact post about how many you could have and what quality, this is what I saw, just cut and pasted the following decide, 2 master and 2 exceptional, or 1 master 4 exceptional, or 3 master... From any book fine. So not sure where 5 EQ and 2 MQ come from.. Chapter stuff, especially something augmenting an Miu would need to be permanent, so no on the temporary basis, but I'll take a closer look at your previous post and your reply before deciding, is after 1am here, been at this for a few hours, gotta sleep and get to work in the morning. Sorry I didn't get to this before we began, was eager to move things forward and get everyone posting.. We'll figure it out, it's nothing that will affect what we are doing now significantly
FF pg 96, The artificer bionics must be taken with signature wargear talent... If you haven't taken that yet, then you may spend the xp if you have it, to aquire the talent and upgrade your MIU. As it's cost is 40, that means it requires master signature wargear... I don't think you have enough xp (500xp and/or 1000xp)to spare to buy these talents... If not, then let's just hold off on it then and you can purchase in the future.
Goin to retcon a bit, aboard the dark rapier thunder hawk on the way to Dark Tide... Valen, your talent, sense corruption detects things humans have used in service of chaos, while that doesn't apply to Xing, he hasn't,he does have some corrupted robes, and rather than let you roll awareness every so often till you detect.. BTW, auger array would not apply here as it is more a feeling from the description of the ability and not visual, just for future reference.. I'm gonna rule you detect something Xing is carrying on him, so if there's anything to be said, it can be done here or you can wait to address it later at a time of your choosing.
Found it all more easily than I thought, memory of stuff coming back. First on the auger roll, it gives +20 to awareness tests and tech use to detect unseen environmental stuff, not sure how it applies to scanning a human, but you'd still need an awareness test. Also, the Miu wouldn't help in this case as Miu is like wifi connection and the bionic auger is already hardwired into you... For future reference, if you want to use tech roll to amplify auger it will be straight int, unnatural bonus, and your +20tech use bonus from talent, I can't see any other equipment or tool you have that would aid in the function and grant further bonuses, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or make a case if you feel differently. As for sense corruption, I completely missed your diving into that salient and those bonuses, but its there and fits your pc and matches history, so I'll let you keep it, though I would have liked to of known beforehand... As for any further purchases there with xp, that's the only thing you took right?, we'll have to agree on it..... This is going to make for some interesting RolePlay with Xing, as you are about to detect some shimmering robes he nabbed from a Daemon the kill team defeated... Its nothing the others don't know, but now you will soon, just give me some time to incorporate it as it should have happened earlier, I just didn't know about your solo ability.. Sorry.. Your profile is a bit of a mess and not exactly organized as much as I'd like.. Please when you get a chance try to separate and list things in categories together.
Ok Valen, found more in your profile upon a deeper look, gotta check a few things in my books... Gonna do on my pc as it's easier to search the pdfs there, but incase you beat me to it or recall more easily, I'm looking into the following.. Artificer bionics is just reqular requisition or only for wargear talent... Its a chapter relic and it's not something you can give back.. Sense corruption from Jericho reach book? How and where did that come from. You have a ton of bionics, I'm assuming that's all in line with what we discussed and what I rolled for you to have? Not a big deal, just double checking, not as important as first two concerns... I found your auger array, I'll reread that to get a better idea how to respond to your IC post
Alric greets Brother Pyros in a different manner, imperceptible to the others, as a fellow Dead Station Vigilant. While you have not met personally, you have heard his name mentioned. You may roll Int or something more appropriate if you have it to try and recall any information or details about him.
Sure can use forgemaster instead of trade (armorer)... Not just one because you aren't going off standard STC design and you are improvising and inspecting an existing piece of equipment. I'll look into that, I honestly hadn't considered that a big deal with the safeguard, just because it's not DH and figured things in DW more advanced and protected, but now that you mention it, I'll read up and check it out, get back to you. As for your auger array inspection of Alric, what are you trying to do? And with what auger? You trying to xray vision him or something? I didn't see that equipment or bionic in profile, so can't think of how to respond. @EVERYONE, I believe the rules have a a mention of a maximum +/-60 bonus, that usually doesn't apply to many, but does at higher levels, especially with techmarine and all their toys... Valen, Im not sure where you got 100 tech use starting in your last roll... You have 60 int, +10 with with unnat int, then what? Once we sort through this I'll remember and won't have to deal with this so often, so bear with me, I glanced at your profile, but couldn't piece together exactly how you got your numbers. Once I know what you're trying to do, I'll know better what equipment and gear could help you have bonuses... Not entirely sure the Miu helps here... Lastly I'll say the +20 bonus to logic and scholastic lore applies, but not to FB Lore... I'll reread about it, I just don't recall Xing using it for FB Lore or the +20 to others but I'm sure he'll be happy to know it's available.
As the two ships meet and transfer begins the command staff wishes you all farewell and congratulates you on a job well done. The transfer takes a day and it's uneventful, with the kill team the last to depart on their personnel Thunder hawk the Dark Rapier. As you finally get a first hand view of the Dark Tide is magnificent and underwhelming, the larger ship with hidden bays and weapon systems looks much non threatening than you know it to be... Atleast according to the specs you've researched. Upon docking it is a busy scene of men and servitors hard at work organizing and directing new crew and supplies. One thing that was not given was a layout of the internals, the security clearance too high for anyone not aboard. As you exit you are greeted by a large Black shield Marine clad in terminator armor and a power flail hanging by his side. He welcomed you aboard and strangely salutes you and recognizes you instantly as equals. He nods to a subordinate accompanying him and the team receives a transmission with access codes and are handed dataslates containing a detailed layout of the ship interior, which is confusing to say the least once you have a chance to look at it and decipher the mazes of the the ships interior. I am Knight Warden Alric. Welcome aboard brothers. We are to rendezvous at Watch Station Sigma and meet Inquisitor Ramseus, she is urgently awaiting our arrival... Shall we head to the bridge and prepare for departure? The command staff and navigators are awaiting your instruction. The ship is yours.
Ok, no idea what sensors are used, could be like a sub using sonar, because their is active and passive ping scans, that's auditory, so you can keep it as is, glad we talked it out. As for helm, if you want Kovac to add something for the medical bonus like a xray, I'd say that's doable, he can do that aboard the dark tide and I'll give him some extended tech use tests to do so... But I'll rule that depending on his DOS there will be a chance of it being destroyed on any hit to the head, to be determined after he's done adding it. Once aboard you both can RolePlay it out and I'll give the tests then.. Extended tests...
OK, still haven't forgotten about the FB Lore tests, I'm gonna say it extends into the next journey and will reply there. That should be everything we needed to clear up if I'm correct, gonna check gamplay and see if I can move us forward... Got a little time before work.
And for Ulrich, gonna put a leash on your perception stuff somehow, just because wolf senses and such are more combat related on the ground and personal awareness, as opposed to reading information from scans and ship detection devices... Suggestions welcome, not relevant yet, but will be... Also not decided I will, giving you or others a chance to make your case... Also for Ulrich, what exactly did you want to do with the helmet? Destroy or dismantle a requisition item and incorporate which parts? The diagnostor helm from description has an xray like device for assessing injury and medical bonus and something for preysense sight in the dark... Isn't innovative design heretical? I know we have created items from scratch, we just assume they've always existed as unique relics, but you want to Forge master to break something for a mission and put it back together later? Sorry if we discussed before and I forgot, if this affects your decision and we can't do it, I'll let you exchange it out or you could possibly add one of the components externally rigged, depending on which bonus you prefer, though I'd probably rule that any head hit would have a % chance of it being destroyed... Let me know what you think. Anyways, gonna check out gamplay and update, stopped here first.
Yea, agreed on being able to stow them and have both hands free otherwise, who would ever bring one, getting engaged in melee you'd be screwed and diminished RolePlay ability in non combat situations... Yea, wasn't sure if there was a test, git crossed with Rogue trader explorator rules as I've been diving into those for ship combat stuff Was going to have a little mock combat with the dark tide, but Ulrich and unnatural perception ruined that and probably better as it might not have gone well with ships firing on each other... Had planned for the dark tide to sneak up and disable weapons and such, maybe some boarding with non lethal actions, but it would have been clear soon it wasn't for keeps, but might have broke something and angered a few folks somewhere in the universe.. So just decided to scratch it... Sorry for dragging it out longer than necessary, was digging deep into ship action and combat... Oh well, it'll be useful for later... Gonna cut and paste some stuff into the dark tide alias for everyone to familiarize themselves with later
Using errata Could hold in one hand to do something, not attack though. Not sure if a heavy weapon could be safely stowed or thrown over your back to allow you change weapons or if you would have to drop it? Unhooking a backpack ammo feed? Others thoughts or experiences on that? I'd say a servo arm could hold it while you freed your hands. You can use your reaction to fire something on your harness, I think it requires a tech test, then you can fire. I'll get to your lore rolls asap
With the ship on full alert and battle ready you do detect a a faint hint of a ship, most likely running silently and within weapons range. It could have fired on you but it didn't. Ulrichs keen perception saved you from any possible surprises. You receive a Vox transmission confirming its the Dark Tide with instructions to rendezvous and begin transfer of personnel and equipment.
Yea, that link was really helpful, but not quite complete, still really helpful and covers most of what we need.... My problem is I don't have stats for our current ship and so I'm just gonna wing it, but later on DT it'll be clearer, I'll add related information to the ship alias profile for easy access.
You're a firefighter and a Salamander marine? Awesome, so many similarities... I'll check that out... Been in China 15 years almost, things blocked here like Google and some other useful things like Android play store, unless you have a VPN which I now do... So I have been out of touch with many image sharing sites and apps.. I'll look into that.
And to be honest, I don't have tons of experience, no matter what I've read, so if I make a mistake, please point it out and if you know more or pc has more knowledge, don't be afraid to suggest or take the lead. Just want to work out these kinks and this new dynamic to our DW game now before things get really serious. Cool? Alright then, enjoy... And good luck! May the emporer protect.
If anyone has any questions, please ask... You might not be familiar with Rogue Trader and or ship actions and options, that's OK, now is the time to learn a little first-hand so later when it's more narrative based then you can put it into context and in some instances where it's combat you will be more familiar with your options and capabilities.
Everyone finds themselves on the bridge as the navigator indicates they'll transitioning back to reals pace soon. The captain indicates to the Marines and Vartas to take over. [b] This is what you have been training for, it's your lead[\b] The ship appears at the edge of the system, but initial passive scans show no ships. Everything appears normal. Everyone awaiting further orders.
Sure, he's taken a risk many times, but RolePlay can minimize risk through it gaining bonus or lower difficulty in some actions.. Most things you don't have that worry. We can just say you have a special texchorsist mechandrite if you want, they'll all detachable.. So wear it when you want. Just reading your profile again, you are huge when fully loaded. Macchinator array, servo harness, I gotta keep that in mind.
You modify an existing mechandrite, you have many before servo harness at Forge master alt rank. That's always an inherent risk connecting to potentially corrupted items through Miu or other means of interface connected to you... Unless it's a data slate and you don't use stuff to interface, meaning less bonus or none. Does that answer your questions?
Valens, thanks for breaking down your rolls and modifiers for me. Please be aware that some of your things have overlapping uses and thus not all can be used on the same thing. The electro graph and Miu are two ways to connect with machinery, you'd use one or the other. Think of the Miu as wifi, somethings can make use of wireless connections, many and sometimes most don't, depending on the location... You could try a Tau drone for instance wirelessly with proper RolePlay. You did include searching through some archives and what bonus might apply, that was a good example of what I'd like to see with Tech Marines and tech priest because they often have so many bonuses and gadgets and mechandrites, etc. If you are not sure just do what you want and roll, mention the modifiers you know for sure, role-playing it helps. Then I'll make the final call and respond to your rolls accordingly, maybe not always clear if you pass or fail. Still worth trying, love the creative.
As Pardis listens you can't see a face to read his emotions while he's encased in his sarcophagus, nor does he speak or give any hints to his own opinions at the squads replies or quarrel. When everyone finishes their response he finally speaks. I see more clearly where each of your strengths are and how we can begin your training. Brother Pyros and I will divide you up for individual or group training, specifically to combat the Necron threat...Hmm....Brother Pyros will train with Deleos and Xing, helping to place their mighty weapons at the weak points of the Necron, while also working out their personal differences. I will work with Brother Maxim on his marksmanship, and have some knowledge sessions with Ulrich and Valens on the background of the Necrons. Lastly, Vartas should spend some time with myself and brother Pyros and learn what he can of our past encounters, what worked and what didn't. Sharpening the Mind's eye:
The kill team will gain access to the following bonuses when they are deployed on a mission from the Dark Tide. You'll spend your time training for this and your ship roles, after you're aboard the Dark Tide, this learning will continue. These are from the "Outer Reach" book and belong to the Advanced specialty "Dead Station Vigilant" Pryos has full access to any of these currently and with a choice of Xenos to apply the bonuses too. You all will have the following single choice and only applied to Necron foes, not other xenos. (it's mostly cut and paste, not my writing) MAXIM,Keen Marksmanship: The marine spends
DELEOS and XING: Xenos Anatomy: Examining the vulnerable parts of an
VARTAS, Battle Awareness: An understanding of the battlefield is
ULRICH and VALENS, Heightened Knowledge: Secrets and lore are at the core of the Dead Cabal, and these are the very essence of understanding
After assignments are given and any remaining questions are answered, Pardis dismisses you all and trust that you will be diligent in your training and studies. This will be all before we encounter the Dark Tide rendezvous, if theres anything that needs to be cleared up or role played out, nows the time to do it, before we transition. Once everything is complete or if you don't have matters you need to post about, then just post you are complete and awaiting arrival, so I'll know when we can move on.
I would like to know how each of you act in battle, to finer tune my guidance in our limited time span... In the heat of battle, which of the following describes you best, then explain your answer. What would you rely on most in a xenos encounter? Answer honestly, think of your strengths and weaknesses, help me understand you now so that we may train you better. First, would you rely on your marksmanship to carefully take aim and kill the threat? Or, Would you rely on your understanding of their body and weaknesses? Or, would you trust in your knowledge of the xenos and its ways to provide you and your squad an advantage?Or, lastly, would consider more deeply the terrain and environment as a means to guide your squad to your objective?... There is no correct choice, think carefully and share why your answer best describes you.
