Barazi’s eyes first look nervous, but at the last part of the gnome’s statement, she clearly grows hopeful.

A look of excitement comes over Barazi’s face as she understands perfectly the gnome’s words! ”Helo! fy enw i yw Barazi! Rydw i o dir arall, a chyn belled ag y gwn, y olaf o'm bobl. Daeth dynion sy'n dwyn baneri o law coch a'u lladd neu eu gweini i ni i gyd. Achubodd Ruach ac Argyri fi, ac rwyf wedi bod yn ceisio eu helpu erioed ers hynny.”

Sylvan:
”Hello! my name is Barazi! I am from another land, and as far as I know, the last of my people. Men bearing banners of a red hand came and slaughtered or enslaved us all. Ruach and Argyri rescued me, and I have been trying to help them ever since.”

Barazi crouched down on the floor between Ruach and Argyri, watching the gnome speak a long speech in human-tongue. She didn’t understand very many words, but “elf slave” was a phrase she had been taught. She becomes quite anxious, and grips at the leg of Ruach’s pants near his knee and looks to him for a sign of what to do.

Seeing Ruach move off to speak with the gnome that had been in and out of the bar during their stay here, Barazi turns back to Argyri and tugs on his shirt to urge him to come with them. She looks to see if the green-skinned-man was going to be coming along before moving just a step behind Ruach through the crowded tavern.

She stands quietly behind him, looking back to the window with no small measure of anxiety.

Growing frustrated trying to eek out her thoughts in human tongue like Ruach preferred her do, she turns from Argyri and replies ”Տարրերը միմյանց հետ պատերազմում են: Ինչ-որ բան բարկացրեց նրանց, նետեց նրանց հավասարակշռությունից:”

Elven:
”The elements are at war with one another! Something has angered them, thrown them out of balance!”

As the song died down, Barazi’s focus was pulled to the raging storm outside.

The Air and Water elements are angry. They war with each other. There is something off in the balance.

She gently tugs at Ruach’s pant leg, an anxious look on her face. ”Ruach. Fight! Bad fight!” she says as she points at the nearby window.

She then sees Argyri walk in, and she hops up and runs to give the big man a concerned hug. She then says to him in their embrace ”Argyri! Bad fight!”

Barazi looks from the green skinned man to Ruach, lost in their conversation. But she does note the man’s focus on the large lady he had been with previous. Barazi studies his face a bit before asking him, ”You...you her?” as she seems to be trying to think of a proper word. She then says excitedly ”You her breed? You breed her!”

Barazi sits beside Ruach on the floor, sitting on her knees and leaning back so her haunches are against her calves. She watches the impromptu show quietly. It wasn’t the graceful Elven music she grew up with, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Barazi looks confusedly to Ruach and back to the green skinned man, but sees the hand Ruach conjures and get some the implied meaning behind it. She wraps her hands around the orc’s arm and says excitedly ”Come! Come!”

Jelani, Gyr? Y’all gonna post any in the gameplay?

Deresh, Barazi’s last post was to you. Though my phone changed lute to kite. But, it was you to whom she was speaking.

Barazi turns to leave the elf to himself, as he clearly preferred to be left alone. As she makes her way towards Ruach and Argyri, she spots the green skinned man with a kite sticking out of his pack. She wipes her tears away and turns to the man, and points at the instrument excitedly. ”Play? You play?”

Noting his fear, Barazi tried placing a calming hand on his knee. "Կարծում եմ, ես այլեւս չեմ էլ կարող: Ներողություն եմ խնդրում ներողություն խնդրելու համար: Ես պարզապես չեմ տեսել մեկ այլ էլֆ, ես չէի ուզում բաց թողնել, թե ինչ է տեղի ունեցել այլ ցեղերի հետ: Եթե դուք մենակ մնաք, մենակ մնացեք:"

Elven:
"I suppose I don't either, anymore. I apologize for intruding. I just haven't seen another elf in so long, I didn't want to miss a chance to learn what has happened to other tribes. If you would rather be left alone, I will not bother you further."

Barazi's eyes well with tears of sadness at the memory of what happened to her own people, and a single drop trickles down her cheek as she stands, lowering her gaze to the floor to hide her own sorrow.

Barazi sat off to a side of the Crown, having grown used to staying out of the way unless Ruach needed her to do something for the “show.” These repetitive demonstrations were very confusing to her, it seemed they did the same story and songs every night and people would offer their “coin” every time in thanks. It made no logical sense. Neither did the idea of coin. Why bother trading for something that has no value only to be traded again? Why not just trade the items directly?

Nevertheless, she was somewhat excited, though a bit anxious, when others would approach her. She would smile and say what Ruach had taught her was the formal greeting in these humans’ language, ”Hi! Me Barazi!” and stick her arm out stiffly to hold hands. Very few actually did, which made the custom seem a bit bizarre.

Seeing another elf in the room, however, proved the first time since she had been taken from her home that she had met another true-blooded member of her race. Ruach and Argyri had warned her of talking with strangers, but this was too good of an opportunity. She made her way through the crowd over to the man, and squatted down on the floor next to him. ”Բարեւ ձեզ: Իմ անունը Բարազին է: Ինչ ցեղ եք դուք:”

Elven:
”Hello there. My name is Barazi. What tribe are you from?”

For Nature, I’m kinda just picturing her having an in depth training of plants and animals...so....Nature (Ecology)?

Welcome to the club!

Barazi is fairly well interwoven, but if you see an avenue to work with I’m all ears.

Indeed!

Picturing a deity of fire that embodies more the rebirth flame can bring than the destructive aspect. A forest fire can often be regarded both as Kauth’s wrath as well as their preparation for a new beginning.

My votes on the questions: (keep in mind, these are just my own personal suggestions for group consideration)

What's it named after? Named after a unique, sharp-leafed herb that grows readily here and is renowned for its...smoke-ability and the relaxing effects it causes.
Who founded it? When? A band of adventurer’s founded it about 175 years ago.
Who rules here? Local mayor, elected every 10 years. It’s 3 years away from an election.
Is the town protected by a formal guard/militia force? Local Militia
How punishing (or lenient) are the laws/constabulary? Constable is a bit of a stickler, but otherwise, a bit of an Andy Griffith naïveté to the town, lol!
Is there a dominant religious entity/temple? God of Nature/Farming

Red shack, Riverside (Murder Manor):

Gaddock and his wife, Aolena, were a happy young couple who led good lives in Thornleaf. She sold fresh bread in the market, he was a respected carpenter. They were well liked in the village, and Gaddock had had a hand in the construction of many of the homes in Thornleaf.

They had been married five years, and rumors were beginning to spread that he was unable to father children. It caused a strain on their marriage, and he fell into becoming a regular at the local watering hole. Then, one happy day, she learned she was with child, and all was well again!

Until she vanished one night. No warning, no note, nothing. The local constable thought that Gaddock has went on a bender and probably murdered her, but he had no proof. But his investigation ruined the man’s reputation. He couldn’t find work, people began distancing themselves from him, and he became an outcast. He began living beneath the bridge, collecting driftwood until he had enough to put his skill to use once more and built himself a shanty upstream.

That was thirty years ago. No sign or clue of Aolena’s disappearance has been found yet, and it has fallen out of the locals minds save for rumors and children’s tales. Kids still creep up on “Murder Manor” on dares or to show off their bravery.
__________
House just above bridge gatehouse, (The Cragworks):

About ten years ago, an elf (strangely enough) showed up to town with a sack full of coin and a desire to purchase an abandoned smithy on the edge of town. Seeing as the town was in desperate need of a smith since previous owner went bankrupt and moved elsewhere, no one objected. The elf set up shop and began plying his trade.

He came up with a long-winded Elven name for the business, but the community lovingly refers to it as “The Cragworks,” due to its proximity to the cliff edge by the river. The elf, whom the kids call Cragger, is a bit of a loner and doesn’t socialize much, but his wares make up for that in their quality, earning him a reputation far and wide. His Elven nature lends to him taking his time with his work, however, and any custom ordered piece can expect to take half as long again to complete. But so far, no one has complained on the wait once they get their finished product.

The Bloodfield

Twenty-seven years ago, there was an attempt to unite the Cleftlands under a single banner, as has happened many times before. However, few have had battles as bloody as the Battle of Esterland.

Esterland wasn’t really a point of strategic value. It was a small town surrounded by a few large farming families. But this war had waged longer than most in the region, and forces from both sides began making moves on the area for food supplies. Things escalated quickly as each side called in reinforcements when scouts would report new troops for the enemy had arrived, and before long, both factions had gathered the bulk of their armies at Esterland.

The battle was short, but furious. Casualties were so heavy that the armies of both sides were completely shattered and broken, resulting in an end to the war a week later. But longer lasting has been the damage to the fields on which the battles were held. The ground was soaked so thick with blood that the crops died entirely.

For twenty years, nothing would grow back in their place, and Esterland has since become a ghost town. But in the past seven, a strange new grass has begun growing and spreading out from the sites. Grass as red as one could imagine. It grows to only about a foot high, and its edges are sharp enough that if you move quickly through them, the can cut skin. Since then, they have earned their new moniker as The Bloodfields.

God of Magic:

I like the idea that the God of Magic, Gahm (hehe), was imprisoned somehow, perhaps about the time of the rise of the Orcish Empire of Resk? He was captured and imprisoned by the Orcish God, which helped to pave the way for the expansion of his people. He managed to escape only recently.

However, the god's haven't been able to communicate with their followers for quite some time and still can't, since nobody has yet to advance their practice to a spell level capable of doing so. Though this has not prevented their ability to bestow minor magics to their devout followers. But, without Gahm's presence to enhance the flow of all magic both divine and arcane, they could only send down enough power to bolster 3rd level spells, 4th if they really tried and had a follower devout enough (aka, 20th level).

Maybe this vanishing of Gahm and the ability to directly speak with gods via Divination and Commune and such has caused the world to not necessarily forget about their gods, but to view them as silent benefactors rather than Faerun style, up in your face, always meddling sort of behavior.

Barazi Stuff:
Barazi's people, The Eldrunai, were probably on that large, central C-shaped island in your circle. Her village likely situated within the main body of the island just a mile or so from the harbor in the middle. They likely regarded Mithromar as a sort of heralded promised land, but being so secluded and insular in their ways, never sought out going there. Rather, they believed their kin would one day come for them.

They never did, obviously.

Mafia Organization Stuff:
I kinda like "The Red Hand" as the name of the mercantile organization. On paper and to the general public, it seems like a legitimate business organization, but rumors (rightfully so) persist that they dabble in slavery, use bribery and violence to control markets, and meddle in political affairs to generate business. No proof has ever been presented to verify such claims, and what little attempts that have been made, either the cases were dropped, no witnesses would come forward, or evidence was "lost."

Background Tie in Stuff:
I'm fine with what you've put together so far, Jelani. What languages does Ruach speak? I figure when you found her, she was likely wearing just some tattered furs (the same ones she was captured in), and her druidic focus (a charm bracelet of sorts, made of sea shells, claws, and fangs). She also has a necklace of a large fang from a creature you have never seen before which she is very protective of. Since then, you've helped her put together her current gear list.

She could likely help out in your show, using her Druidcraft (druidic prestidigitation of sorts) to add some random effects to the performances. I highly doubt she was taught how to dance, so she probably would be a detriment in that regard, though she likely knows some songs in Elven or Sylvan.

Much to Ruach's frustrations in the seduction front, she probably seems quite enamored with Argyri. To Ruach, it seems like she fancies him, but in truth, she's just never seen someone as big or strong as him, and is fascinated by it. Ruach probably has no clue this is the case.

That is, until Belbajak starts hanging around. Then she becomes enthralled by him, as she has never seen or interacted with a gnome before. Belbajak would probably buy into Ruach's story of her being his simple-minded sister, but if he ever speaks to her in Sylvan, he will quickly learn that she is not as simple minded as she initially seems.

Well, I already had said I was from “parts unknown” in advance, SO TOO LATE BRIMLEY! Haha

Anywho

I’ve said the gist of her background above. But, I figure that her slavers we’re traveling through the small village of Thornleaf while en route to a larger city to find a good price for Barazi. This is possibly where Ruach finds and rescues her. The pair maybe hide out in the woods to avoid pursuit until things die down, before returning to the town a bit later.

Seems that both Ruarch and Argyri have anti-slavery things going on...perhaps they are partners?

Also seems likely that Belbajak had heard of the slavers through his business arrangements. Also, the pair/trio could have been hiding out near Sweetwater and came across some of Belbajak’s family while hiding out.

As to the slaver organization itself:

I’m thinking something along the lines of Faerun’s Zhentarim. They have a zealous backing of wealthy and unscrupulous merchant lords. They deal in various goods and use their organization to try and set prices where THEY want them, be it through economic leverage, market control, or downright thuggery. It’s been rumored (but never proven) that they’ve even driven countries to war to exploit the economic boom of the need for arms, armor, and supplies (Hint: they totally have done that on multiple occasions).

One trade they partake in is slavery. They take it very seriously, as the purchase of an individual slave is often a very profitable venture. As such, they take a very active interest in eliminating organizations that interfere with their slave dealings to prevent true groups from forming and opposing them. It’s far cheaper to crush these sort of things before they get out of hand.

They stay in business, however, because none of these rumors have ever been proven true. Sure, they deal in slavery. But they do offer good rates on goods, and that filthy talk of muggings and murders is all just hearsay from jealous merchants trying to give them a bad name.

...

I also am interested in swapping leather for hide.

That’s fine by me. I was really considering not knowing Common, but I’m thinking it’ll just be a new language you taught her and, while she understands most of it, she still speaks it very broken and basic.

I’m still debating what look I wanna go with for her:

Dressed somewhat civilized, assuming you are teaching her some about civilized life.

or

The more tribal look.

or

A mix of both.

Ok, got most of the crunch done while the girls are out shopping and my father in law is sleeping while watching basketball. Haha!

Also, as to our backgrounds Jelani:

I was kinda thinking that wherever Barazi was from was a long way away, and she was one of the few survivors that was scattered across the world. And that she isn’t a slave long (except for the trip on a boat) before being rescued or released by her buyer.

If you are an urbanite, it’d be far easier (and helpful) if you perhaps saw in her a link to your Elven ancestry and didn’t like seeing her in chains. So you either buy/rescue her. I was going to play her as so being from such an insular community that she doesn’t even know Common, so you could be her tutor/translator too.

Or, if you WANT to be a blood relation, maybe your father was an adventurer and came across my tribe a few years ago. He fell for an Elven woman there (my aunt), and she agreed to leave with him. Then you two happen to see my character as a slave for sale and your mother recognized me. Then we’d be cousins AND you save me.

She, at game start, likely has little in the way of possessions unless this is some time after her rescue.

I’ll work on her build ASAP. Have in laws in town this weekend.

I’ll trade you the 9 for the 6.

Jelani: regarding linking our backgrounds, I still am kinda wanting to roll with the outsider/fish-out-of-water style of person. Barazi is from a very primitive, small enclave.

If you wanna link our characters, perhaps you freed her from the slavers somehow? Either bought her from them, or stole her away?

Ordered the stat rolls so far as well as everyone’s d20’s.

18, 17, 16, 16, 16, 15, 15, 15, 14, 13, 13, 13, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 11, 11, 11, 10, 9, 8, 6

Jelani: 14
Gyrfalcon: 13
Thron: 10
Jubal: 8

Did you see my planned background? I’m fine working something out though. Give it a look over.

I’m fine with either. Entirely up to y’all.

Yup

Here is the alias I’ll use. And the basic backstory I’ve schemed up so far.

From a small enclave of wild elves, very tribalistic, daughter of the chief. Sons are traditionally heirs to position and hold family names, daughters have no family name until marriage and usually take on roles of healers, shamans, and other support roles. She was being trained by the head shamanic in Druidic magic. At her coming of age ceremony/arranged marriage, her enclave is attacked and the few survivors (including her) are taken captive by the slavers that destroyed her tribe. The remaining few members of her enclave are scattered to the point that rebuilding their tribe is impossible.

Brimley told me that he wanted us to weave our backstories together so we know each other. So I’m hoping one of you will have perhaps freed me somehow by either force or bought and released. I’m kinda wanting her to initially only speak Elven and Druidic, because I find it amusing and fitting for her.
