Thanks for running us through it CW! It was a nice little dip into Pathfinder 2E, even if we did have some stops and starts along the way.

I'm curious - if I hadn't randomly guessed to look for herbs in the witch's hut, where were we going to have to go to find the final herb? I feel like if we hadn't grabbed it then, we would have just been wandering aimlessly around the banks of the river for a while.

Also, the playtest gunslinger gets a strong "Eh" from me. Despite going for the switch-hitter specialization, it felt like just hitting with the warhammer was the correct choice 9/10 times. A bit of a bummer. That said, I'm excited to see what they ended up changing for the final version of the class in Guns & Gears. Hope the guns end up packing more of a kick!

Not wanting to waste any more time, Bac heads right for Laurel's place to deliver the ingredients.

More seriously he adds "You'd really stand in the way of helping heal the town and end a godsdamned plague?"

Backing off from the tree and its foul-mannered resident, Bac cracks a tired grin. "Then that's all three, ain't it!" He rubs the small of his back with a knuckle "No reason to stay around here any longer. We've got everything Laurel needs, so every second means more people getting sick and dying."

He inspects the rather heavily callused soles of his feet and says "You youngsters ready for a hard march back?"

Bac pockets the rat's tail and follows along after Theo. Once in front of the annoying tatzylwyrm, he crosses his arms and says "Better be enough, or we're going to have some words with ya. And by words I mean fists."

If there isn't anything rat's tail-like in the hut, Bac heads off with the rest of the group to meet the tatzylwyrm once more.

Bac puts the jar under one arm and almost scurries out of the building before stopping himself. He turns and inspects the other herbs and roots and things hanging about the witch's hut, checking if among all the strange objects there might be some leftover rat's tail.

He beckons to Kane as well. "What do ye think, any of these herbs the witch has lyin' around the rat tail root we're looking for?"

Just realized that the GM mentioned a bunch of old herbs and things, so I figure its worth a check. I think we were shown a picture of the root way back in the beginning, so maybe Bac would be able to spot it if its here? Can't hurt to have a Nature trained person check though.

"Yea boy, all fine." Assuming nothing else jumps out to attack, Bac examines the jars in the room for any that contain pickled fingers. If he can find it, he picks up the jar and heads on out.

"-And yer mother was a saucepan!" Bac spits at the remains of the animated cauldron. However, soon afterward, he settles back into glancing around the cottage for anything else that might want to attack the group.

The increased MAP doesn't apply to the power attack itself though, right? Just any further strikes would be made at -10. Also, I don't have access to Roll20 this week (on vacation), so I'd appreciate someone moving me if possible.

Bac fires off a quick round with this flintlock, the gun's report echoing in the small shack.

While the cauldron is "reeling", he strides up and tries to clobber it with his warhammer. Note that thanks to his Sword and Pistol feat: "When you make a successful ranged Strike against an opponent within your melee reach using a firearm or crossbow, that opponent becomes flat-footed against your next melee attack."

First, Bac will try to listen for any sounds of movement or signs of life within the house. (Perception +5)

If he doesn't notice anything, he'll stand in the entryway, arms crossed, eyeing the moldy 'corpse' with suspicion. "Hey witch, if you're alive, we're here to borrow a couple of pickled fingers for an annoying squirt of a tatzylwyrm down that-a-ways. If you've got a problem with that, you can pipe up, eh?" He raises his voice, casting it through the house.

Bac raises a tired eyebrow "You're the one that wanted to deal with the witch rather than just take the moss right in front of us. Don't go chickening out on us now." He waves to the door. "We go up, introduce ourselves, ask for some pickled fingers to go, and pay the witch with a good beating." He lets loose a raspy laugh before coughing.

"Unless there's something easier you have in mind."

Unless Theo or someone else objects, he rubs the small of his back and then heads over to the door to rouse the witch.

Bac shrugs "By my reckoning about these things, you'll be killing someone. Might not be the worm, but it'll be someone." He claps the wizard on the shoulder "Still, lets do it your way."

Bac shrugs "If it wants us to go deal with this witch for some fingers, it probably can't do it itself. So, I figure the witch is the worse of the two. Not sure how much more you want ta know beyond that boy."

"Intelligent or not, its got no love lost for humans and it wants us to risk our lives so it can have a snack. Who cares if it meets the paladin-approved definition of evil." He nods to Grattfaulk's assertion.

Bac raises a hand and then brings the team in for a huddle. He lowers his voice "I don't know about this whole witch thing. I make it a rule to not get cursed by vengeful witches, or really, anyone that has some dark magic on their side. Could be the witch is way out of our league." He glances at the tree and its moss "And the moss is right here. Maybe we're better off against this annoying little worm. It'd save us time and get the ingredients back to town faster. What do you think?"

He nods to Theo "You too boy, what's your take on this? You think it's trying to play us?"

Assuming Theo translates, Bac rolls his eyes "Now it wants to play games with us about the value of the moss? When we're counting on getting back to save people? Why don't ye just put the wriggler in its place, Theo. Deal it a firm hand. Maybe make something up to give it a scare, eh?"

Once Theo translates, Bac slaps his chest with one hand "HAH! It thinks this old man would lie to it? If it's so worried about us having ulterior motives, then why not ask it to throw the moss down here. We'll grab it and go. Don't even need to get close, eh?"

Once Theo starts translating, Bac just points helpfully at the moss growing on the tree as he looks away to the side. He whispers back to the group and Theo in particular "Going well so far, I think. Keep it up boy!"

Moved myself to where I figured I'd be on the map if I was sneaking in.

Bac follows the line from Kane's pointing finger, first to the moss and then to the Tatzlwyrm above it. He slows and crouches behind a large root. "Eh, I see it. Scrawny thing to be called a wyrm. Or is that supposed to be worm?" He has his hammer out for the moment the creature attempts to defend. Given Kane's earlier explanation about tatzlwyrm intelligence and ferocity, he grudgingly lowers his voice to a whisper and asks "Think we can negotiate with it?"

"Well isn't that something..." Bac sighs with admiration for the tree, rubbing at his knees after the hike over. He scans the tree for any obvious moss as he listens in to Kane's assessment. "Tatzlwyrm? We can try to be quiet, but it won't be easy."

If he can spot the moss, the approaches as quietly as possible. (Stealth +3)

Bac looks over in the direction Grattfaulk indicated. "Seems our wyvern pal was happy with his prize, so we're free to go. Let's do it." He heads off toward the darkwood tree, hammer at the ready in case there's trouble. "Who wants to take bets that this moss' going to be harder to get than we're counting on?"

"Huge too." Bac grimaces at the far-off roaring as he rubs at his back. "You're our woodsman Kane, what do you think'll keep it from choosing us next? If both are about even, I'd rather keep going to get us some leagues of distance away from it."

(Can I assume that over this journey, Kane would have been able to medicine me back to full HP?)

"Gurtlekep." Bac places a hand on the kobold's shoulder. "We've given you an even better gift. Now that those undead are smashed, you'll be able to hoard all the mushrooms in that dwarf room, once they grow back. Soon you'll be rolling in them!"

Something something, teach a kobold to fish and all that.

He turns to the party "So Kane looks game to look for the moss up near the Crag. Anyone else?"

"Eh, finally." Bac nods "We better go before that wolf thinks it could go for a second round." He takes a quick look around the room for anything else of interest that might've been left behind, then heads back out to the courtyard.

"So I could use some more patching up and rest, but we've got people in town to help. We could go to the edge of Droskar's Crag and find ourselves a nice old tree for the moss, or back along the river and try to find that rat tail."

"I vote the moss. We can always get the other one on the way back."

Bac gives Kane a haggard grin. "Eh, you save the good, potent herbs for the ladies or something? Heh heh, I can't blame yeh. Well, I'll survive with just this for now."

Once his vision is no longer swimming, Bac joins Theo in looking for and gathering the mushrooms.

Bac starts drowning with soup poured down his throat!

Luckily the "assassination attempt" is enough to shock him back to consciousness regardless of the kobold's ineptitude. He licks soup off his lips as he struggles back to his feet. "Eh!? They're all dead already? Ye didn't think to leave one for me so this old man can feel accomplished?"

If I understand correctly, hitting dying 0 means I recover on my own to 1 HP once sufficient time has passed. I took the liberty of having that happen quickly thanks to the soup :)

He sways for a moment on his feet and grabs a hold of Kane's shoulder to steady himself. "Ugh. You don't think you've got any of those healing herbs for me? I think the skeleton broke some important bits."

Bac grins in triumph upon spotting the ironbloom mushrooms, but his eagerness to step in and grab them is rewarded with skeletons. He raises his flintlock at one with the silver hammer. "Outta the way ya piles a bones." He fires at the boss-like skeleton!

Bac keeps a hand on Gurtlekep's shoulder as a 'reassuring presence' as he opens the door to the dwarf corner. "Let's have a look at them then." He gets ready to push the kobold to safety should anything jump out and attack.

Happy to wait. My experience with Pf2 has been you never want to start fights with half hit points :)

Bac picks the kobold back up. "Oh, yes, I don't think we're going to need you walking. How about we just tie a string around you and dangle you in front to point in the right direction." He grins "Then you can check just how not dead those dwarves are first hand. Eh? Good idea? Heh heh!"

As soon as we're ready to go, Bac will be herding and badgering Gurtlekep into providing directions and leading the way. Also, lol CW. I need to recruit you into a game where you can play silly characters all the time :)

Bac looms over the kobold after putting him back on the ground. "I'll swear to not eat any kobolds today. But if Gurtlekep thinks he'll lead us into a trap or trick, he's going right back onto the menu. I'll swear that too." He reloads his flintlock pistol and keeps it at the ready in one hand, with the other ready to grab at the kobold if they start acting up.

"Now, lead the way."

Anything else we want to do before heading to engage what might end up being some duergar?

Following Kane's question, Bac adds "Or is the anvil place somewhere outside the mine?" He frowns "We're not scared of any dwarves. Even Graypelt ran from us! You take us to wherever this anvil place is, got it, ye little snack?"

"AH HAH HAH! I WAS GETTING HUNGRY!" Bac picks the kobold up and puts it right in his mouth! Or at least an arm or something, whatever fits. He doesn't bite down. He just presses enough to put the fear of Xiayeng into the little thief!

"Heh. He-oughhh!" Bac starts to laugh as the dust settles, but ends up coughing instead, sending out little sparks of lightning. Once the coughing fit clears, he answers Theo with "Its all right boy. No more headsuckers that I can spy."

"But we're no closer to finding our mushrooms. Where'd that trail go?" He looks around for any further sign of the strange footprints the group had been tracking.

Yep Kane, I'm slingin' as much as I can sling, which apparently isn't much!

Darkness lifted and the gross little squids revealed to the light of day, Bac laughs. "Ugly! Xiayeng spits in your dirty maws!" He hurries past Kane and under the red darkmantle so that he can see both of the foes. Then, after a deep breath, he releases an arc of lightning that jumps from him open mouth to both of the creatures!
