Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Aurora looks up after hearing the comment from Rain, and notices the Ratfolk.
Greetings Ratfolk! We are searching for a key last seen in this house.
Do you happen to know where we can find it? If not, may we look?
Aurora smiles broadly, hoping to avoid conflict with the strange creatures.

Aurora seems to be staring at the floor, searching intently for any traps or pits.
Her Perception check of 9 appears to indicate she did not notice anything at all.
She stops and glances around, startled. What is everyone looking at now?
Aurora follows along with the rest of the group.
Everyone, watch out for any traps or pits!
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Pythoness House does not seem to be any worse than crypts of the Necropolis.
Given the situation, it seems to be prudent to take the same sort of precaution.
Aurora casts Delay Poison on herself before proceeding any further into danger.
It is good to hear that there is nothing to prevent us from looking for Neverin's Key.
Adventurers need to adventure! Regardless, please let us know if we skirt any laws.
During her journey across the city to Pythoness House in Oldtown,
Aurora considers if she has heard of the House or the Crimson Coil.

What are the legal restrictions for investigating a crime scene
like the "Pythoness House", raided by the Knights of the Pale?
Do we need permission to enter and/or recover lost treasures?
Aurora would greatly prefer to avoid breaking any Ptolus laws.

Once back at the Minstrel, Aurora will ask around about Neverin's All-Key.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
This chest seems to be sealed beyond our abilities to open.
However, I have heard of a magical item that may help us.
Neverin's All-Key is some kind of key that opens any lock.
Once, I overheard a band of captured thieves talk about it.
I do not know where to find it now, but I could ask around.
Perhaps, we should return to the Minstrel to ask questions?
Kellisan, your offer to investigate the chest is most appreciated.
This sounds as if it could be a start to some fantastic adventure!
I am not clear what means we have to open this legendary chest,
but everyone is welcome to try. Please, let me have a closer look.
Aurora will try to open up the chest. If she cannot, then she will
attempt various orisons and use her knowledge to obtain a clue.
Since it seems fire-oriented, perhaps a cold-oriented spell may help?
Orisons: create water, detect magic, ghost sound, guidance, light, mage hand, purify food and drink, stabilize

What a fascinating tale! It sounds like this is truly a lost historical artifact.
How long ago did all of this happen? The chest does not look to be very old.
How did you come by the chest? I have never heard of Ealistar Fallingeye.
Do you have prospective buyers? Such an item might be a target for theft!
Aurora looks at Rain and Timmins. Perhaps this sort of scholarly discussion
is not your cup of tea, but if you could indulge, it would be appreciated.
Fabulous treasures like this one are why I first became an adventurer!
Kellisan, it is good to hear that you will accept our offer of assistance.
Please, start from the beginning, and tell of the chest and its legends.
Aurora will listen to what Kellisan has to say and consider what she knows,
to compare his tale with what she believes, while looking for discrepancies.
Shol'a'saul, perhaps you are correct that we should not open it here.
I am not a scholar, although I have some training with magical lore.
Are you skilled in these matters? What do you recommend we do?
It is difficult to find a safe place to open a dangerous magical chest
in a large city. Maybe we need to take it to a basement or similar?
Elven Lore +2: Add half oracle level to Knowledge checks about elves.

By Lothian, this chest has some sort of Abjuration cast upon it!
Kellisan, did you know about this? It might be some sort of trap.
I suggest you let us open it for you, to keep you from any harm.
Kellisan, please know that we are not thieves, but rather that
we are here to help. Please help us to help you with this issue.
Turning back towards the group, Aurora wonders what it contains.
Human children would not fit inside of a small chest like this one,
but it might hold gnomes, or perhaps an extradimensional space?
Probably there are not any children at all, but something more dire.
The woman who we spoke with was named Ireale Tesimal, according
to my companion Rain. Would she have any reason to cause trouble?
Absolutely, we can send for the watch if you request, but almost
certainly their first questions will be all about this magical chest.
Next they will ask why you were hiring Ogres on a stormy night.
Most likely, you prefer to avoid that kind of additional attention.
Aurora will also consider if she has heard of this Ealistar Fallingeye.

Aurora waves to Morsai to come inside out of the rain. That book will get all wet!
It is good to hear that these accusations about children are unfounded.
However, it is still concerning, and something seems to be wrong here.
It may be that someone is trying to cause trouble because of the chest.
Aurora walks into the back room with the chest, looking for any traps.
She also uses her magic powers to check for any auras of active spells.
Aurora casts Detect Magic and concentrates on the chest for three rounds.
Perhaps you could open the chest or allow us to open it on your behalf?
There might be some sort of trap or other trickery involved in the chest.
You do not have anything to hide, do you? We are just trying to help out.

Greetings! I am Aurora Erthuo. I understand it is after business hours,
but we are investigating an urgent issue. May we come out of the rain?
Aurora will give a courteous nod as she enters, trying to keep calm.
She is attempting to remain friendly, as Kellisan might be innocent.
Kellisan's Rare Goods Emporium. Is this the place referenced by all
the graffiti across the street? It hardly seems like a fair assessment.
Aurora takes a good look all around the room, checking for anything unusual.
Regardless, please allow me to explain why we are here. Apparently,
there has been a report that you hired two ogres as porters tonight.
They were to deliver a chest in exchange for children, of all things!
Of course, it must be some misunderstanding, but you can see why
we need to take these accusations seriously. I am sure everything
will be made more clear, if you could tell us your side of the story.

The time has come for action. We need to get to the bottom of this.
Aurora strides to the front door of the shop and proceeds to knock loudly.
I assume that if there is a side door, there is a front door. This is after
she casts Protection from Evil on herself, to ward against possible evil.
Hello? We are looking for Kellisan Faymar, proprietor. The rain is very cold,
yet we have questions that must be answered. Children may be in danger!
If there is no front door after all, then she will be knocking on the side door instead.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
We should keep together. Certainly, I appreciate the value of stealth,
so it would be fine if those who are trained as scouts avoid detection,
while the rest of us follow at a distance, in case there is any trouble.
Aurora follows the ogres in the rain, trying to remain within earshot,
as they approach the shop of Kellisan Faymar to resolve the situation.
There is still something suspicious going on here. Lothian would want
for us to continue our investigation until we have discovered the truth.
Aurora will cast Protection from Evil on herself again when approaching
the shop, assuming that her previous casting of 4 minutes has expired.
Aurora steps up and she tries her best to pacify the suspicious ogres.
Maybe there is still an opportunity for bloodshed to be avoided today.
Ogres, we heard that you were to be paid in children, not gold.
Is this rumor true? If it is, then we cannot allow it to happen.
How big is the chest? If it requires two ogres, it might be large.
Perhaps the children are inside the chest? We should ask them.
What is in the chest? Is it something illegal or otherwise?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Rain, it is not the time. There is likely to be trouble soon.
Aurora casts Protection from Evil on herself.
Aurora walks to the alleyway entrance, trying to see the ogres.
Are there any laws in the city that protect ogres?
I am thinking what may happen if there is a fight.
Are ogres considered sentient beings or monsters?
Ludo! You arrived just in time. There is trouble with ogres involving children. Ask your questions on the way.
Everyone, we need to leave now in order to catch them! Shol'a'saul, you are of course welcome to join along.
Aurora glances around the room for any further volunteers, then heads for Midtown toward Southmarket to look for ogres.
Regarding NPC interaction, do we need to include rolls for Diplomacy,
Sense Motive, and similar skills? Generally, my character would be
Taking Ten for such situations, unless we are rushed or in combat.
It seems that Aurora is the surprised one, as she is left momentarily
speechless by the response from the woman. However, she overlooks
the rudeness, since the well-being of children is her primary concern.
Timmins, it sounds like we need to travel to this shop right away,
so that we can intercept these ogres and their likely illicit chest.
Once there, we can talk to this Kellisan and find out the details
about the children that he is planning to hand over to the ogres.
Aurora is just about to take her first sip of the Nutty Black ale,
when suddenly she lowers it back down to the table. She rises
and approaches a perhaps surprised-looking halfling and human.
Pardon, but I could not help but overhear your discussion
of children in danger, and expect you meant to be heard.
Kellisan Faymar is a name I have not heard spoken before,
therefore I must ask if your sources are correct, and that
he truly means to sell hapless children to ruthless ogres.
Aurora waits expectantly for an answer, looking for any sign
of falsehood or trickery, as it is most important to be certain.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Bless you, Illumater! Aurora gracefully accepts the politely offered chair at the group table.
I was thinking about coming by the shop. My longspear works well against ghouls,
but is less effective against skeletons and zombies; I am hoping that you can help.
She places a covered birdcage on the table. A little bird told me to seek your assistance.
Aurora waves back at Shol'a'saul and gestures for her to join the group.
It is very nice to meet you as well. Peace be with you. (Italic = Elven)
Aurora smiles at Rain and Morsai, and hopes the Nutty Black is not too strong.
Joining the group at the table, you see before you an attractive woman with pointed ears;
clearly some sort of adventurer, from her shiny armor and assorted weaponry at her side.
Greetings all! I am Aurora Erthuo of House Erthuo, a humble servant of Lothian.
I am pleased to see the weather did not keep you from attending the festivities.
Shol'a'saul will certainly notice that Aurora is half Shoal Elf, as are nearly all the Half-Elves in Ptolus.
Ludo the Lionhearted probably recognizes Aurora from frequent services at the Church of Lothian.
As a member of the Keepers of the Veil, she acknowledges Ludo with a nod of pious understanding.
The rest of you all likely know little about Aurora, other than that she is clearly a follower
of Lothian, based on various symbols adorning her clothing, armor, and multiple weapons.
It is nice to see that the Ghostly Minstrel is still sponsoring the Newyear gathering,
although from what I have seen, adventurers tip well enough to make it worthwhile.
Ludo the Lionhearted wrote: Checking in, glad to see we have someone from the Keepers of the Veil too. Ludo will be right at home. On my way home and will post in Gameplay tonight. I read Ludo was saved from a demon and belongs to the Knights of the Pale.
Perhaps Aurora and Ludo have met, maybe while recovering from that attack.
If you are interested, we can put together common backstory between them.
