Aurelion enters. I'm apologize for my lateness, I've been held up at the docks. Something odd is going on over there. Drail Banden's son Draev has arrived in Coran. Apparently the two of them were somewhat estranged. Draev claims that his father wrote to him and expressed concerns that his life was in danger. According to Draev it was because of a pricing disagreement. I'm not convinced. The workers at the warehouse did not notice any odd behavior or signs that he might be fearing for his life. The workers have also never seen Draev before today and something about his arrival put them on edge. Tunny and I left four guards to keep an eye on him under the guise of protection. But what of all of you? Is there anything you've learned that I should know? Anything I've missed?
Male Human Fighter 5
Thank you for your help. Turns to the guards and whispers. You are to stay with Dreav and keep an eye on him. He may be in danger. But keep an eye on his activities. His arrival is suspious and he might be involved in this. But if anyone asks, you are officially assigned to him for his safety. Don't loose him. At that Aurelion returns to the tower.

Very well. We'll leave you to your affairs. In the mean time, we'll be leaving a small contingent of soldiers here for a few days to... how did you put it? ... to make sure that the tower protects the honest, working people of Coran so they are no longer murdered by the dozens. After all, since we have so little to go on we can't be certain that you too, aren't a target of these assassins. Good day. Aurelion beckons to Tunny and walks out of the office.

While listening to Banden's explanation Aurelion casually looks over the office looking for anything suspicious - and also looking for any signs that Banden has been here longer than he claims. You are not incorrect about my skepticism that the merchant's guild does not operate in this manner. There are many other effective ways the guild can resolve something as trivial as a pricing disagreement. The evidence suggests there is something more behind this. What can you tell me of your father's business? What exactly does he transport? Who are his regular clients and business partners? Also, I would like to know if there have been any major changes over the past year in your father's line of business or changes in who he does business with?

Aurelion addresses himself to Draev. Master Banden, we are servants of the Tower in pursuit of your father's killers. My name is Aurelion di Alkanov, and this is Tunny. We need you to answer a few questions for us. Once we've learned what we need to know we'll get out of your way. Can you think of any reason someone would want to see your father dead? Did your father have many enemies, or possibly rivals, who you suspect could be behind this?

Aurelion listens to the conversation, all the while a scowl growing more pronounced. These murders were well-planned. Whoever is behind this has influence and had a purpose in mind. He shoots a meaningful look at Tunny, pauses, and then continues, We must discover it if we are to uncover the originators of this plot. I don't much care for using the victim as bait, even if he is a Drow. I would like to question Mister Jumai first and maybe... a few others, again, another purposeful look at Tunny, before we put the Drow in danger's path. Justice will be done upon their heads, I swear it. @GM How well is Aurelion acquainted with the Duresu family or Drail Banden? What about Mister Jumai?

Aurelion's heart begins to pound ferociously as the creature hits the ground and attacks his friends. His grip tight on the hilt of his great sword, Aurelion lets out a yell and rushes toward the creature, blade raised high. Moves to BC23 Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Hearing Tunny's curses Aurelion stops his advance on the wolves and turns to see Tunny and Tomlin struggling to hit the Worg. Shouting a curse of his own, Aurelion changes direction and charges full speed at the beast. Aurelion moves to AQ23 with a charging attack, -2 to AC for this turn Charging Attack roll with Mithril Great Sword 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 Damage Roll 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

Reflex 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Aurelion curses in frustration, whether more angry with himself or the worg he could not tell. Determinedly he called to Tunny, I'm alright, but a few more shots like that and I might not be. But don't worry, I don't plan on letting it live long enough to get the chance!

Aurelion walked as he had for hours, eyes sweeping the path ahead for signs of the beasts they hunted and listening to the crunching sound of his boots trod through crusted snow and ice of the herd's frozen tracks. Considering the threatening sky, he called, I don't much like the look of those clouds. Perhaps we should hasten our pace. If those clouds bring snow we could lose the trail. After a moment's contemplation he added, But then again, I don't care for the idea of getting stuck out here in winter storm so close to the mountains without any shelter either. These trees may offer at least some protection from the elements. Aurelion fixates himself on those clouds (performs a survival check) attempting to gauge how long the party has until the storm arrives and how severe it will be.

But Tomlin, why drag the bodies away? Would not a pack of wild animals have devoured it's kill here? Something about this doesn't feel right. We need to learn more about the creatures that worked this evil if we mean to find them before they attack again. Scowling at the scene, Aurelion begins to inspect the tracks, gash marks and looking for other signs that could reveal the nature of these creatures. Aurelion moves over the to where the fence has been broken in, inspects it and the digging marks, and stops at R34, Survival check More riddles. If these creatures were here to hunt why would they drag off the humans but leave so many sheep?

Aurelion bent over with his hands on his knees, taking in deep breaths of cold air. With his head hunched forward he squeezed his eyes shut tightly trying to catch his bearings. He had seen many strange and fantastic things since coming to the tower a few short months ago, but he had never felt anything quite like the sensation of traveling hundreds of miles in mere seconds. Head still spinning, he felt the weight of a familiar hand rest upon the shoulder of his heavy full plate armor. He quickly straightened up, hoping none of his new companions had seen. Though quite tall, Aurelion was by far the youngest member of the group and he didn't want anyone to think him weak. He hurriedly assured Tunny that everything was fine. Aurelion wasn't exactly sure why he had been chosen for this mission - but he was glad of it. He hoped it was because of the prowess with a blade that had impressed so many since his arrival at the tower. Though, he suspected that his family name might have had something to do with it. Being the heir to the house of di Alkanov had opened many doors to him in the past. Regardless, Aurelion was excited and eager to prove himself against an enemy that wouldn't hold back because he had titles or wealth. My name's Aurelion , he said, purposely omitting the rest of his name. I'm good with a sword. There was a tone of arrogance in that statement. In all his life he had never met his equal with a blade... except for maybe Tunny. |
