Two men and two women in addition to our six-person party adds up to 10 rations deducted from the total. We're down to 32 (and 32 pounds!), but if we run out we can just move a bit slower and let Auehda take 10 on Survival to feed everyone. A few of us also have reserve rations so we're probably good.

Auehda nods. "Paladin Aldronard needed peace."

After eating, they set Khonnir's old backpack on their bedroll and go to the doors of the keep. "Auehda will take first watch. Muga and Phylla take second, maybe?"

They're the only two who don't need to recover spells :U Maybe Yvell for third watch, and we leave at 8 am?

They return to the keep and lay out their bedroll. "Andalos and Keepers, you have food for the night? Yvell carrying bunches and can share with you."

Aldronard scared us but I personally wouldn't count that as attacking, since it's a minute-long status effect that doesn't even do lasting damage. We also don't know if it was conscious or an always-on aura.

The half-orc jumps out of their composure when the priestess channels. "Valtyra hold on to yourself!"

They pull out their greataxe, drop it, and kick it across to where the aasimar is cowering. "Hold Metal, it help?!"

Auehda drags Hatchet-Hand out of the keep to the rest of the bodies, wincing as Yvell and Ibuki argue. They try on Hatchet-Hand's armor, then return to the group to ask Valtyra about the ghost. "Can fire hurt them? Would hurting ghost help?"

After investigating the armors, Auehda shows Hatchet-Hand's arm to their half-elf friend. "Just tape and glue, Ibuki. Auehda think it is weird how their scars heal though - all pink."

As Hatchet-Hand squirms awake, they kneel down five feet away from and in front of him. "What is Hatchet-Hand's name? Can Auehda know what Soothe is?"

Auehda looks to their plant ally as they enter the building. "Phylla say these ones thinking about eating humans?" They crouch next to the beaten prisoners. "Is someone else in keep, Auehda wonders?"

Auehda points the gun through the bars of the portcullis and fires its rocket-propelled magnesium charge at the escaping cannibals. "Go to running one!" they yell to the fire elemental.

Targeting one furthest away. Concealment, low bad for PC: 1d100 ⇒ 44 Flare gun touch: 1d20 ⇒ 18 Fire: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Not accounting for cover. If that hits, the flare sticks to the target and they take 1d8 fire and must make a save or be blinded and dazzled each round until removing the flare (full-round action).
Whether or not that hits: Anyone within 40' of the Smiler's current square must make a DC 12 Fort save or be dazzled. Anyone adjacent to the Smiler's current square (including the Smiler) is also blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds on a failed save.
^Above based on my reading of the stat block, may not be how it works.

Auehda's Round 5: Shoot flare gun at escaping Smiler if it survives the AOO (full-round action). Virtue lasts 1 round on Auehda, summon nature's ally ii lasts 3 rounds, and flare gun burns for 10 rounds.

The elemental runs up the stairs, carefully dodging around the combustible humanoids, and jumps down. It runs after the fleeing Smiler.

Oh yeah the miss chance hurts the most. It's still pretty useful, though - even if you miss it still impacts and has a chance to blind them.

GM, I was under the impression that a flare gun's ammunition was "small." Can I change my move to be on top of the wall if not?

Held Smiler takes burn damage at the start of every turn he fails a Reflex save. Probably won't be standing much longer. Also he gets another Will save this turn, possibly?

Auehda runs up to the edge of the portcullis and points their gun through the bars. "You kill people! Stop!"

Next round will I be able to shoot through the portcullis without them having cover (from the bars)?

The closest living attacker to Muga is the one the fire elemental redirected to. (Updated map in light of that.) I think the wording of your post still lets you target that one.

Question: Do we need to hit on a charge to stack the bonuses? Here's sort of what I think the map looks like now . . . "Thor" represents the fire elemental and the black squares represent Auehda's horse.

Auehda yells, "Olkoon, että ydin puhelu liekki elämään!" finishing their spell. An elemental whirlwind of fire springs into being in front of one of the Smilers, then charges to strike the one Valtyra and Yvell have occupied.

Slam (charging, Yvaltyra distracting charge): 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 + 4 = 21 Bludgeoning and fire: 1d4 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + (3) = 7 -4 to-hit if Yvell and Valtyra miss. Not accounting for possible paralysis but presumably we didn't target that one. If the slam hit, the Smiler must make a DC 11 Reflex save or begin taking fire damage on its next turn.

Also, the elemental might decide to go after the closer Smiler instead - Auehda hasn't asked it to choose a specific target, and it might not understand distracting charge. If the one Valtyra and Yvell were after is already dead it'll definitely go after a different Smiler.

Auehda scrambles down from their horse, then draws a small gun as they move back from the portcullis, eying the Smilers above.

Some cover from the pistol guys would be appreciated nonetheless, until I can finish this spell. Are the ground-based Smilers left or right of our line of horses or are they straight ahead?

Any chance you could post a map showing the dimensions of the fort? Possibly where the enemies are? The grenade was targeted exactly 20' away from us so if hatchet guy charged straight to Yvell, he should take the blast. Those in the blast radius are staggered for 1 round and must make a DC 15 Fortitude or be deafened for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds.

Spell looks right, Ibuki. It has a range of 35 feet and lasts 4 minutes, and the save is Fortitude.

The grenade explodes, sending a concussive wave through the courtyard. Ears ringing, Auehda begins fluttering one hand, singing, "Aavikko tuuli korventaa keuhkoihin./Valkoinen-kuuma aurinko polttaa ihoa./Mikään tukahduttaa liekki, kun se on sisällä!" They hold a sprig of holly towards the western light.

Auehda pulls out their bang grenade and lobs it towards the bandit with the hand-axe.

Bang grenade: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Targeting intersection 20' away from us, in direction of handaxe guy. Not sure what the range increment on a grenade is but it's probably at least 10 feet like alchemist's fire (penalties not included in roll). Grenade explodes at the beginning of my/our next turn, and "deals no damage but staggers creatures for 1 round and deafens them for 1d4 rounds (DC 15 Fortitude save negates)."

"Adventurers riding by and saw smoke. You attacked?" Auehda calls up, sliding their gun back in its holster.

"Someone inside the fort," Auehda says quietly. "Yvell, get back! Auehda think two on big iron cage-door and four behind inside the main open place. Then more in building past that."

They edge their horse close to the paladin, then draw power from the earth to bless each of their friends as they pass. To Yvell, Muga, and Aeron, they whisper, "Palo saatiin valoa silmille, ja pitäkää kädet!" and point to their own eyes and hand. To Ibuki and Valtyra, they say, "Olkoon hiilet oman keskustan koskaan polttaa," drawing familiar spirals on their friends' shoulders. They repeat the gesture on their own armored shoulder.

Auehda slides their new helmet over their head as Yvell approaches the stone fort. "Yes it does not look good. I think it is good idea to leave horses here although."

Alright, let's get going.

Auehda spends the day hanging around the Foundry, ordering water mostly and chatting to Khonnir, Val, and Bran. As evening approaches, they climb the Black Hill. After all the smiths have packed up and trundled their carts back down the hill, they look into the flame, and speak. "You hurt Auehda, but not your fault. Burnt One wishes you to remember their parents, who are gone now for good. Remember who you killed."

They look out on Torch, picking out the place where they first performed. "It good that ended. Auehda would still be closed if they still sat in the heap and made jokes. It was not bad life but better to open to world fire. Light-life." Turning back to the torch, they bow. "Thank you. Torch is forgiven."

Well disguise self gives you an extra +10, so if you rolled you could've gotten up to 29 . . . but yeah, most likely would've seen through it.

An enchantment-focused mage typically doesn't use their enchantments on helpless prisoners. Even when they do, telling a non-evil person that you are eventually going to break their will by repeatedly subjecting them to mind-altering magic is legitimately bad. It practically screams brainwashing.

I'm in a game with three neutral PCs and an evil one, and we have tied someone up and charmed them until it stuck. But it's an antiheroic game. In this situation, we had three good PCs and one neutral one. This Iron Gods game is, for the most part, heroic. A chaotic neutral guy is going to have to hide acts that would offend his heroic allies, or they'll call him out on it as Yvell did.
