Dullia draws a torch from her pack and lights it. She then moves to the edge of the hole and looks inside.

If necessary she'll drop a stone into the hole to try and gauge the depth.

The stone falls for a fair bit of distance but you hear a definite "clink". Leaning over though, you notice that a series of stone steps lead downwards.

Anyone manipulating the idol finds themselves whisked back to the Pagoda.

Jiang'Shi

Only those touching the map have apparated away.

Jiang'Shi

Those who touched the strange inscription feel a surge of raw elemental magic.

Moments later the pagoda seems to melt away leaving you standing atop a high ledge overlooking a cavernous hole.

A strange moan can be heard from below, drifting upwards on the wind.

A stone idol behind you glows softly. You get the impression this is your way home.

Jiang'Shi

I double dare you to touch it. ;)

Large Update Time

Pooling your collective linguistic capabilities together, you quickly decipher the map.

It appears to be a regional representation of a series of dangerous locales, dungeons so to speak.

Oddly enough, one of the dungeons seems to be slightly glowing, pulsing actually.

You are filled with the sense that pressing your hand to the dungeon's representation may actually transport you there.

The label beneath it reads Kalavesh Hollow

Real talk, we're here for dungeon runs so here we go. Each dungeon will be accessible from the Mural here in the Pagoda. You can use this building to rest, recuperate, craft items, and so on. You can expect to level up after each of these dungeons. I'd rather we move quickly than let this game fall apart. Dungeons will each have a unique theme, so hopefully there's going to be plenty of variety.

Jiang'Shi

Had one last paper to finish. I'll be doing a large update tomorrow, get this game up and jumping.

Jiang'Shi

Another update, it looks like I misjudged the quantity of work on my last week of school. My final paper is due in Monday, and I'll be back either on that day or Tuesday.

Again, my apologies for the delays. End of semester takes precedence unfortunately.

Jiang'Shi

I'll be posting later tonight. Sorry for the delays.

Jiang'Shi

The map seems to show an unknown landmass, likely where you currently on.

A stone pagoda beneath a cliff can be seen. Assuming correctly, you have found your location. Numerous other landmarks dot the map. A winding inscription encircles the map' border.

Jiang'Shi

Sift fails to see anything due to the prevailing darkness. It does seem to be a sizable room though since you cannot make out the walls, nor ceiling.

Omara scouts the room and comes across the far wall (the one without any doors)

Covered in dust, wiping it away reveals a large mural... of a map.

Jiang'Shi

#3: Pagoda 1st Floor

The stairs exit onto the 1st floor which consists of a large stone room. Two doors sit in the stone walls, one to the north and one to the south. A large empty firepit sits in the center of the room, worn rugs surrounding it.

You look around and spy that there's a small hole in the ceiling, and you can see another chamber above. However, the hole is tiny, much too small to get through.

Jiang'Shi

The necklace seems to be made of silver, which was your first guess anyways. You estimate it's value to be around 50 gp, a relatively fine find.

Jiang'Shi

You all squeeze around the damp rain sewer, avoiding the caiman carcass as much as possible.

Eldak's magical elven eyes spot a gleam amid the murk. He extracts a silver necklace from the waters. The necklace resembles a braid of hair with a flawless opal as its centerpiece.

Everyone can easily clamber back up.

And yes, there are stairs.

Jiang'Shi

There are indeed stairs.

Eldak "Stormsoul" Kelthar wrote:
Can I see it from up top?

Unfortunately no, you can barely see Spines but the caiman is just out of sight.

As for the grate, assume it is wide enough for others to make their way down.

Since no one has done so, on to Round 2.

Caimain Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Caiman Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Finally, the beast chomps into Spines, taking some measure of flesh and blood with him.

Jiang'Shi

The hammer misses, but the resounding noise easily alerts the others. Anyone may roll an initiative and jump down the hole, ready to act. However, if more than one more person jumps down, everyone will be cramped and considered to be squeezing.

Jiang'Shi

Eldak launches Jolt down into the water below... nothing seems to have happened, good nor bad.

Spines, feeling the need to prove his virility, drops down underneath the grate into the water below.

While his muscles may have failed him moments ago, his keen darkvision allows him to spot the creature before him, scuttering behind rubble.

#2: Pagoda Rain-Sewer
This cramped chamber seems to be channeling the rain and water from the pagoda into small stone channels, sending it back to the sea.

The creature before you seems to be a squat, blue-scaled reptilian of some sort, much akin to a caiman. Splashing down into its lair, it automatically notices you.

Spines Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Seascale Caiman 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

The beast lumbers towards you and attempts to take a chunk out of your orc body.

Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Jiang'Shi

Without assistance, Sun Xian succeeds in lifting the grate just enough to make room for a person to slip through.

Dullia follows Malthazirs gaze. She nods in agreement, saying. "I'll check to see if it goes anywhere useful."

She kneels down and gazes down into the shaft below while mumbling.

Casting Sift on the area below the stone grate.

[dice=Perception]1d20+8-5

Dullia's Sift spell allows her to gaze into the drainage below. Though dark, you can tell the area is partially submerged, most likely waist level. Furthermore, you all hear distinct scratching sounds from below.

The Stone Pagoda of Mawu

Nestled at the foot of the Tong'wei Cliffs, the Stone Pagoda of Mawu has long been abandoned by the living. From within its eerily quiet interior, the occasional mourning echo can be heard.

#1: Pagoda Entrance
You find yourself in a dark chamber of stone. Bare except for carved benches on the four walls and a set of sculpted stairs rising to the level above you. You have entered from the north.

Perception 15:

Peering around, you notice that the pouring rain causes rivulets to run down the southern wall and drain into an open stone grate. IF it were removed, a small or medium creature could probably squeeze through.

Spines, your Perception check sees the above.

Jiang'Shi

It happened to be my birthday weekend, so I'll update everyone tomorrow.

A quick point for everyone as well, would you prefer a single long dungeon or a collection of smaller one-shot dungeons?

Jiang'Shi

Despite the continuous searching of the wreckage, nothing more can be found of worth.

Spines heads over towards the building and as he gets closer, realizes it's a stone temple, carved from the cliffside.

An entrance lies before you, the inside dark unlit.

Carvings of ferocious beasts decorate the stone entrance.

Because shovels are useful. :) seriously, I was just gonna have her burying the dead after searching the wreck

Works for me, just make sure they're dead. A few good whacks should confirm this.

Malthazir grabs a bottle of wine as he looks about.

Nothing new on the horizon Malthazir.

As for the shovel, I don't see why not. Can I inquire as to why it is being requested?

As the rest of your group huddles out in the storm, you explore the remains of the demolished vessel.

Looks like no one made it out alive except you and your members on the beach, but a glance through the ship salvages the following supplies from the hold, crew quarters and captain's quarters. The ship was mainly carrying trade goods, so there's a sizable amount of this.

Fair warning, there's a reason for the bag of holdings, please keep track of encumbrance somewhere on your sheet. "Trade Good" items will be able to eventually be bartered off. It's not useless to carry them.

Treasure

  • A crate filled with 18 bottles of cheap wine (.5 lb per bottle)
  • A large bolt of emerald green cloth (10 lb.)
  • A bag of iron nails and tools (1 lb.)
  • A masterwork breastplate

Omara Sedilah wrote:

"Go ahead and check it out," Omara said, pulling her pack from the lifeboat and turning back towards the ship. "I'll keep looking for survivors." Shouldering her pack and unfolding her umbrella out of habit, she starts making for the wreck.

Omara, you head back towards the wreck. Make a Perception check for me to see if you find anything or anyone.

Jiang'Shi

Make sure all your equipment is finalized, because here we go.

A crackling of cerulean lighting lights up the coast. Your former vessel, the Siren's Song lies beached and battered half a mile down the coast. Luckily, you and your allies were able to escape the doomed ship before she ran aground of the reef.

Ahead of you, imposing cliffs soar ever upward, their summits shrouded in thick ocean fog banks.

In the gloom, broken only by the bright flashes of the tropical storm, you spy a stone building, a shrine or temple in the distance, built adjacent to the cliffside.

Ah right, for everyone else, I PMed Spines to come over and provide some backup. Don't worry he's not infiltrating us.

As mentioned, you don't NEED to change it. It's only if you're willing.

AotE, is my formatting acceptable? I keep a very organized and detailed character profile, I believe the only thing I don't have that you do is XP tracking, which I can easily add. If I need to make the change it's no big deal but I find that the vast majority of people like my formatting.

Yours is perfectly fine. As long as information is relatively similar to statblock form I can find it quickly.

Jiang'Shi

Alright, seems no one else is coming for now.

Before we begin, I have a pet caviat/preference. I like it when statblocks are simple to read so unless you have a crippling need to NOT do this, I'd enjoy if everyone would set up their character's info page as per a normal NPC statblock.

Spoiler:

Alright, just waiting on our last couple of friends and we're all set.

Discussion Thread

Dullia Krimhilde wrote:

I can swap bless for CLW and I'll have two castings per day for others, and I have a separate ability to heal myself.

That should hold us over until Omara picks up Lay on Hands.

As long as everything goes well :)

Alright, so I've made my decision:

Combatant: Sun Xian
Healer: Omara
Spellcaster: Malthazir
Hybrid: Eldrak
Hybrid #2: Dullia Krimhilde

I decided to pick up a fifth character. I apologize for those not selected, but I've gone with large parties in the past and especially in a dungeon centric campaign this may be too hard to balance.

I'll have the Discussion/Gameplay Threads up soon!

I still want to wait a little bit, I still need an answer on healing.

As I see it, we have Sun Xian and Spines as Combatants.

Everyone else seems to be Hybrid of some sort.

My bad CampinCarl, I even read through him, no worries he's on my list I just forgot to copy him when I wrote it on the pbp post.

Alright, from what I can see we have the following submissions:

Spines
Sun Xian
Omara
Dullia
Eldak
Nugats

Out of everyone, only Omara seems to be a healer type but I don't see any ability at 1st that lets you do so.

Spines, I would need your statblock made without rage applications and then a small section labelled "when raging" and the changes it makes.

Sun Xian, is your character finished?

Eldak, you seem to be good to go, dullia as well.

Nugats, as an alchemist What role do you see yourself taking?

I'll give until tonight before choosing. Once the selection process is over, I will need some statblock modifications to make everything easier to read, but we'll get there when we get there.

Edinoiz wrote:
Are 3.5 classes allowed? I was thinking about the Totemist from Magic of Incarnum and if it is allowed I was thinking of making a Frontliner Hybrid with some skill monkey mixed in.

Sorry, only Pathfinder content.

Again, my final selection will be Saturday.

If someone wanted the Rich Parent trait, would that put them at 1400 starting gold, or just 900 max? I'm asking because I'd like to play an Undine Qinggong Monk with an Masterwork Undine Weaponshaft Quarterstaff, if possible.

I'm already giving a 500 gp starting package. I'd say just up up to 900.

No character changes necessary, this would simply be for NPC, monster and environmental flavor.

In terms of design and aesthetic, is anyone opposed to a prevailing oriental theme?

The challenges will include traps and kin but i've always felt that if you're just a skill character you're not contributing enough to the general survival of the group. Simply put, you can make a pure skill monkey but mark him as being hybrid.

Backgrounds are welcome but not required. I'm planning on using fast track to power along so at least past 10th and then again, maybe more.

Orc is fine as a race.

A bag of holding each. Carrying capacity is not an issue I want to be dealing with.

Evil characters are fine but they'll need a reason to be with the group. While it is a simple dungeon run, player interaction and roleplay will occur.

Introduction

Echoes of the Elements is a dungeon-run adventure taking place in a series of dungeon complexes keyed to the elements. Within this complex, an otherworldly group have begun their attempt to catapult their leaders into divinity. Will you be able to quell their ambitions?

Character Requirements
- Players begin at 1st level
- 20 point buy
- Any Official Class/Archetype allowed.
- 2 Non-Campaign Traits
- No Drawbacks
- I will be selecting four adventurers, looking for one character per "purpose". Indicate in the recruitment which purpose your character is aiming for. The purposes are:

  • Combatant: A character capable of taking to the front lines, dishing out damage and taking the hits like a champ.
  • Healer: A character capable of restoring health points to the party and removing negative effects.
  • Spellcaster: A character focusing on casting spells from a distance, with a repertoire capable of supporting the team.
  • Hybrid: A mix of one of two or more previous options.

- Each player begins with 500 gp. As a dungeon run, there will be little to no opportunity for any form of purchasing so spend it all now.
- Players also begin with a bag of holding.

Questions?
Ask below! I aim to begin Saturday at the latest.
