Black breaths a cloud of dust and other particulates at the fleeing paladin.

black breath weapon v Serena: 1d4 ⇒ 3 (Reflex DC 13 for half damage and not sickened for 3 rds.)

Blue tries to make a grab for her.

purple aid blue's attack v Serena (higher ground, v cover): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

pink aid blue's attack v Serena (higher ground, v cover): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

blue unimproved grapple v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

And yanks her head back by her hair. Serena has a weapon in hand so there is an AoO she can take if she wants to.

One of the mephits dives at Fergus though the open doorway.

The mephit screams "HAMMA NARSA CHON!!" in it's shrill little voice as it charges.

red unimproved bullrush v Fergus (higher ground, CHARGE!): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Alas for the mephit, it is only a pile of dust that weighs a pound or two. It splashes off the stolid dwarf like a bag of flour off of a stone. There's an AoO if Fergus wants to take it, bearing in mind that he is concentrating.

Another mephit reaches in and tries to drag the stunned mephit out of the way.

yellow unimproved drag v red: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Red does not resist and doesn't use his AoO.

But that mephit fails, leaving them both out in the open and the last two mephits unable to do much beside wait for them to clear the space. Green and orange delay.

Almost forgot the Attacks of Opportunity.

The ghoulish little imps claw at Serena (total defense) as she backs out beneath the swarm.

green claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss
yellow claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 miss
orange claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss
purple claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss
red claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss
pink claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss

black claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 hit
THREAT
Confirm?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 miss, just

blue claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss

One of the mephits in the back catches Serena a blow to the scalp.

Black's readied action goes to waste.

The ghastly little imps flow like dust on a breeze through the dungeon in quick pursuit. They overtake Serena and surround her at about head height, swiping at her with their little clawed hands all the while scream out their chants, in angry weasel voices.

"HAMMA NARSA CHON!!"

"HAMMA NARSA CHON!!"

"HAMMA NARSA CHON!!"

At this point green and orange both trigger AoOs from Serena (in that order green first then orange) as they fly in to attack her. Remember they are blurred.

green claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss
yellow claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss
orange claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss
purple claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 hit
THREAT
Confirm?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 miss
red claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 miss
pink claw v Serena (higher ground): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss

"HAMMA NARSA CHON!!" cry the morbid mephits.

__ Shepherd Jhod Kavken -10 hp, sickened 1 rd.

Map updated

Illthir pushes the door into a lightless chamber (that the Shepherd's light spell casts half of in dim illumination).

An apparent difference in air pressure expels a torrent of dust into hall the characters are in. Everyone, Reflex save DC 13, or be sickened.

Then there is a flapping noise, like a swarm of lethargic bats taking wing, and out fly the forms of four, small, blurry, vaguely imp-shaped humanoids clothed in dirty, black robes and long charcoal-colored scarves. As they fly over the party's heads they shout "HAMMA NARSA CHON!"

When your PC sees them you can make a single Knowledge (planes) check and open any of the following DCs you beat.

Knowledge (planes) DC 13:
These creatures are a low form of elemental outsider known as a dust mephit.

Knowledge (planes) DC 18:
There are many types of mephit. Dust mephits find death morbidly fascinating. They fancy themselves as tragic yet fashionable victims of gloomy fate. Being elementals, they are hard to damage without the use of magical weapons or spells.

Knowledge (planes) DC 23:
In the complex social code of some lower-planar spellcasters, the gift of a dust mephit symbolizes a subtle threat, with the connotation that the giver has recognized some plot of the recipient against them. As air elementals they fly perfectly, and quickly recuperate in desert or otherwise dry dusty environs.

As usual, PC's can get attacks of opportunity off against any of the four that flew overhead into the hallway that they can reach if they wish. Note: make your Reflex save first to see if you are sickened or not.

Then three of the four long-nosed, grey imps blow billows of more irritating grit down upon the party. While most of the rest crowd around the open door and do likewise from the safety of the room. Possibly five (six for Illthir due to her position) more Reflex DC 13 saves pending the results of any AoOs from the party.

Alia of the Blade wrote:
... intended(that word again!)

They pave the roads to each of the Nine Hells. ;)

Looks like that wound that Alia gave it earlier bled a bit more than the imp thought. It flies into a rage!

"RRRAAA!"

claw v Alia: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
claw v Alia: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

But Alia's defenses are too strong.

Scarlet's second favorite blade comes away trailing blurry motes of dust which quickly loose whatever cohesion they had.

Zokon's arrows hisses by trailing more fragmentary material like a dirty comet.

Alia however does catch something physical under all the floating detritus.

"Why do you fight? It asks, rasping like sand paper over stone in the Common tongue. "You are but dust! What is it you hope to do? What is it that you hope to accomplish that tide and time will not undo? All of you! Just dust in the howling wind! Even you elf is doomed to decrepitude, and death mere centuries as you count them hence! Give yourselves to me and I will make a quick end of it for all of you... except you elf. You I will make last a bit. It will cost me a penance to take joy" He almost spits the word, but his dry mouth has none, "in your inhuming, but even that penance shall pass. ALL SHALL PASS!! ALL IS DUST!!"

The door flies open in a sudden backdraft of wind. Beyond in the room the party can make out by the light of your torches and glow rods (or natural ability) a large dinner table that was once set for a banquette a very long time ago. The silver is all tarnished black, cobwebs festoon the candlestick holders, and everything is covered in a thick layer of fluffy, colorless dust.

However before the group can focus on these details, several things occur in rapid succession.

Surprise Round!

Firstly, there are three small dirty and somehow hazy 20% miss chance figures with wings in the room. Like the others of their ilk you have found in the dungeon they hover in the air like pollen.

One in a rusty stained smock drags a skeletal clawed hand across Scarlet's nose, while another in what have once may have been moss-colored robes expels an impossibly-sized gust of wind it had been saving in its lungs right into her face.

claw v Scarlet (cover): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 4 = 17 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Scarlet, Zokon, Numalar, Didymus - Reflex save DC 13 for half, slashing damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Half damage in this case is 1 nonlethal. If you fail the save you become sickened as well.

At the south side of the chamber, in an alcove a third in drab grey merely stares in hateful concentration at the doorway and somehow summons up a continuous, violently gusting wind (wind wall) there.

"WAAAAGH!!" There's a smell like when you use a fireplace (or turn on your furnace) for the first time in long time. Wherever the flame hits the skin of the two figures they burn like cigar paper. The diabolic imp closest to Numalar seems to turn to smoldering ash and blow away in the hot wind following the fire, leaving nothing but flaming rags behind. The other's face looks a bit like a pinata with half of it's facade broken off and lost. Motes of dust swirl behind where it's cheek and eye used to be. The seared edges of what would be flesh, skull and bone on another more natural being burn with bright line of orange.

You can go ahead and make your switch with Scarlet this time around.

reflex save (blue): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

reflex save (orange): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

"AAAAGH!!" They yell in stereo.

orange: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
blue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

O: "Foolish gnome, your sorcerer's words will not avail you. All is dust, and soon you will be one with it!"

B: "Ular bilan gaplashish befoyda bo'ladi. Ular toza." He spits the last word in deliberate disgust.

Auran:
"It is pointless to speak with them. They are clean."

The one with the crossbow opens his mouth and spits out a roil of wind laced with abrasive grit.

Scarlet, Numalar - Reflex save DC 13 for half (1 nonlethal), slashing damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

If you Fail You become sickened as well. In Scarlet's case it merely extends her previous sick for an additional round.

The other one who just spoke to you all in Common is apparently dry of foul gusty winds for the moment. Instead he produces a big, wavy knife or small short sword. He steps forward and jabs it at Scarlet with more strength than any person would guess the walking stick figure could muster.

Orange - small short sword v Scarlet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

But Scarlet sucks in and avoids the blow with practiced ease.
